The requirements of the information contained under Schedule 1 of LOLER or the LEEA032? Or are they one and the same? Would they both satisfy the requirements of Regulation 10? thanks
Hi Lynsey...thanks for your comment and question. Schedule 1 to Regulation 10 of LOLER 1998 is the legal requirement on the minimum information that must be in a report of thorough examination - so you're best to go with that. LEEA 032 is guidance on setting up the overall examination scheme, rather than what information is needed in a report.

LOLER does state that examination records are to be kept for equipment for as long as its within the possession or use of a particular employer. In the case of older cranes, the examination scheme may specify that they are to be examined more frequently. The competent person may also deem it necessary to carry out load testing, non-destructive testing, or both.

One thing also which not specify clearly is about the load testing, as you mentioned already that there is no gain benefits for overload testing, however for the case that it dictates by the local organization guidelines and british standard to overload test the crane by "1.1xRated capacity"
Since a Crane has so many rated capacity depending on crane configurations (boom length, working radius etc.) If i will lift a load of 1500Tons, normally it is not cost practical to produce load test weight 1.1xrated capacity, in this case is it still valid if I will load test by 1.1xRated capacity at any selected working radius? means does not necessarily load test by the same working radius that I will use to lift the 1500 tons load..
