    If you check out the song written by Brian ( Who Wants to Live Forever) for the film Highlander the official version is backed by an orchestra where Brian and Freddie sing beautifully together.

    Freddie’s “It’s A Hard Life” has piano passages suggestive of “Bohemian Rhapsody”, while the opening is based on an aria from Leoncavallo’s Pagliacci. For the first time in ages, no synthesizers were used in creating this track and the melody and lyrics (part-written by Brian May) make this one of Freddie’s greatest moments. Musically, the song recreates the feel of “Play the Game” to update the story, utilizing Mercury’s piano playing and the band’s characteristic technique of layered harmonies.
    The music video was filmed at Arri Film Studios in Munich in June of 1984 and is set at a masquerade ball. Almost as if to contrast the melancholy mood of the lyrics, the video features Freddie surrounded by high decadence, which is being enjoyed by all around him. The video was entirely Freddie’s idea - he had wanted to recreate the set of the Pagliacci opera.
    Both Roger and John hated making this video as it was a long day of shooting and the costumes that had to wear were extremely uncomfortable. But Queen's rule regarding videos was that the composer of the song had the creative control of the staging of the video. Freddie loved opera.
    Once again, the video was an expensive one. As well as the large number of extras and the enormous set, the video also featured a custom-made guitar. Made for Brian in Japan, the piece with its skull-shaped body and long, bone-shaped neck was impossible to play and far too small for Brian, but at a cost of over £1000, it was used rather wisely as much as possible. BTW, Brian still has that guitar today.
    Keen-eyed fans might also have spotted how Freddie takes his time to sit down on the steps in the final shot of the video. This was because of an earlier injury: he had damaged ligaments in his knee outside a club in Munich and it is clear from the way he lowered himself onto the stairs that he was treating the knee carefully.
    Thankfully, Freddie’s assistants were on hand with vodka and champagne for all still on set by the time Tim Pope called the final ‘cut’.
    Both Brian and Roger have solo albums. Roger has recorded 5 solo albums and Brian has recorded two. John didn't sing so he never did a solo album.
    FYI - Freddie recorded one solo album (Mr. Bad Guy) and a second non-Queen album with Spanish Opera Soprano, Montserrat Caballe titled Barcelona.

    This is such a beautiful song and Freddie puts so much emotion behind the words. I love this one, thank you. Brian and Roger are both lead vocalists in their own bands and sometimes would sing lead on Queen songs but when you have Freddie Mercury as your Frontman, you might as well let him do most of the singing because he is amazing.

    He is not Queen. He’s Freddie. Queen is the band consisting of Freddie, John, Roger and Brian. As much as I love Freddie. It’s not HIS music but THEIR music. You should know that by now.

    Roger supported Freddie’s vocals live without fail! On recordings, he and Brian provided backup vocals and, also, sang lead on several Queen tracks. If you venture beyond the “hits” you will find an amazing & sometimes amusing diverse catalog from four guys whose British mid century upbringing influenced their music ,

      Roger did lead on almost all his songs in the 70s

      Being the only voice on a lot of his own songs

    Both Roger and Brian had/have solo albums and recording and were they singing lead. They’re very good, Better than most today, but without Freddie, Queen would never have lasted or made it. And together they were so special, no one could touch that talent. Really just super altogether. They’re in their 70s, Freddie would have been 77 this year, the eldest by a few years. I think his voice might have probably given out by now, he performed so hard and artfully with those tours, he had vocal nodules already by a few years before they stopped touring in 1986. But he even had 2 solo albums and his last “Barcelona” with Monserrat’s Caballe’. And Quuens two last albums with Freddie before he passed, they weren’t big here in the states. Sadly. And ridiculous, imo. Anyhow, enough of me. ^_^

    @Wavy_Boyz "Why you looking at the camera like that?" and other comments re costumes: This one of the rare Queen songs which I needed to listen to audio only before I could fully appreciate the song. *Love* this video, but the visuals were so overwhelming I couldn't take in the meaning/lyrics! Always love your reactions and if I had more time to 'RUclips' I'd watch more than just your Queen reactions. Thank you so very much -- take care!! PS: Other singers/soloists in the group?! He#L yes! A conversation for another day, although Brian May is my absolute favorite 🙂

    Of course they all sing. Who do you think does all the harmonies and you haven’t heard Roger Taylor sing with Freddy? Deaky is the only one who doesn’t sing.

  • @Sharon_Clawson
    @Sharon_Clawson 10 месяцев назад

    Yes, everybody can sing except for John Deacon. John Deacon does not like to sing at all. And also, it depends on who wrote the song. Sometimes, they choose who is going to sing the lead or not.
