Agree with you about the gear snobbery. I found most of these snobs use expensive gear to compensate for a lack of something :D But I love it when I turn up to a gig with my Squier strat or tele with my Zoom G3 or Joyo pedals and put on an amazing show. Then what usually happens is people come to me after the gig and ask what gear I was using because they loved my tone and I show them my budget gear. The reaction I get afterwards is not something I'd get if my gear cost thousands of pounds. Nothing wrong with going against the grain. Music is about the music, not about the brand of gear.
Hey Paulo. Thx for the comment man. It’s all about the last line you said. It’s ONLY about music. Consumerism is taking over music he same way it has taken over everything else.
If you use the same device, put in very minute variation and produce two sound clips. And then ask people which one is better. If you tell people A is a 1000 dollars device, and B costs only 100 dollars. Most of them will say A is slightly better. If you don't tell anything, the choice will be very random. It won't be much different if the two sound clips are from two device, one expensive and one cheap, as long as you tweak both to the best to your liking.
I once played a Pink Floyd tribute gig using nothing but a Cerberus, a NUX Masamune Comp/Booster, a cheap Big Muff, Mooer E-Lady, my Gretsch Streamliner 2622T, directly to FOH with a Joyo American Sound in the Cerberus' loop as my Preamp. Stereo IR (1960) to the desk from the Cerberus. Everyone said that I "sounded just like Gilmour, what boutique pedals/guitar amp do you use!?" :)

I was also watching your videos playing and recording in that converted farmhouse, it feels like your heart is totally devoted to what you do and that's just fantastic. Congratulations.
Wow! What a really lovely message. Thanks so much. So I would have to say that ultimately I’m a songwriter first and a guitarist second. I think that’s why I don’t really rate my guitar skills. As far as I’m concerned it’s just a tool to help me write and perform songs. Unless I’m laying covers to earn money but even then I’m not really trying to play blistering solos as much as trying to entertain people and make them feel joy through music. An IR is a digital capture of the sound of a cabinet. There is a part of the software for the Cerberus where you can load IR files to be able to play without an amp. @@TheGuitarEffect Composing is the best, I praise your taste, sharing with people is also very important to position yourself. Thank you for your patience with my ignorance, now I am also completely clear about the IR and the reason for the use of the American Sound pedal. It was a little naïve of me to ask you if you also used them in the acoustic. I suppose that in addition to the modulation effects in that case the Cerberus own preamp is used and nothing else because we need a sound that is as clean as possible, TRUE? You have completely convinced me with this pedal, I don't see anything on the market that offers so much for less, although I would ask your opinion about the Rumble Seat pedal, I have only heard it through videos but it really sounds like the American and English sound of the "60" in its best version. Of course it is much more limited in terms of options.
24:16 - Man! Stonkin tone..wish I had a song to use that on :) I have the MG-30 and wondered what the sound diff is. I see it's no amp but has a Drive. This is like my 1st board. Went straight into board via DI with a chorus, OD, Dist and EQ...I love the simplicity of this and that it can be turned into more. If I didn't already have the MG-30, I'd have this. But wait! It gets better!!! The Trident is coming. 2 DSP chips, AMPS and more. Basically a Cerberus with MG-30 capabilities. Was just looking and the Cerberus computer software looks good. Like Bias Effects or Amplitube. Easy to set up presets. Enjoyed the show Boss! Best Regards.. Best Wishes for 2023! Subscribed for the detail and good vibes!
Hey. Thx for the comment. So yeah the Cerberus has speaker simulation which means you can use it direct like you did your pedalboard. Though I think it’s more meant to be used with an amp and I think it sounds better with an amp. It’s very impressive though. A really pro feeling and sounding pice of gear. I researched the trident about a week ago. While it has the construction of the Cerberus it’s all digital and spirant have the analog drive section which is a bit disappointing. Still though. I’ll hopefully be able to try it out.
I recently purchased a Marshall Origin 50 combo for my Dad as a birthday gift. Obviously a great clean pedal platform amp, and it sounded brilliant when I ran my Marshall Drivemaster into it for overdriven tones, and my Boss ME80 in the effects loop for the Reverb, Delay, etc. So now I’m thinking this Cerberus would be a great all in one solution to pair with the Origin 50, as the drive and distortion can be run into the front of the amp, while the effects can go in the loop! Plus the fact that the drive and distortion are analog, means that it will pair organically with the Origin’s valve preamp.
Hey man. Thx for the comment. So yes this would be a great solution to pair with the Marshall. Also because the preamp of the Marshall is in the loop of the Cerberus if you add a Marshall 412 in the IR loader you could go direct to a desk or recording interface and jut use the amp for monitoring onstage. However if you wanted to spend a bit more money and get a boss MS3 you could have the same setup and also add in your drivemaster and another pedal and bring them in and out on the MS3. And you could also control the footswitch functions on the amp.
Hey Gavan. Thx for the comment. I actually had the flu rig V1 Too. Really great piece of kit. This is a different thing really you can do a lot more with it. I will say though it doesn’t have the preamp the way the fly rig does I just put the Joyo American sound in the loop and it works great.
Hey Louis. Ironically I’m currently in Rome and visited the colosseum yesterday. But yeah I get the Russel Crowe Thing all the time! And yes NUX are the best pedal manufacturer from the Far East for me right now. Very progressive thinkers.
@@TheGuitarEffect Yeah I also visited the coliseum 2 months ago, what a wonderful place. Your videos are very informative. Keep up the good work and glad you did not mind the humour. Cheers!!
I've been looking for a new pedal board for my pedal steel, and I had actually decided to get a NUX MG30, but then I stumbled across the Cerberus. Your brilliant videos clinched it. I currently have a Line 6 Pod HD500X sitting on a table beside me, but it takes up acres of space, and frankly I need just a fraction of the effects. And I don't actually need the expression pedal either. On the steel I usually just use delay, reverb, chorus, phaser and a bit of distortion/drive (Currently Rat + Fulldrive before the pod, into a Tone Master Twin). So I ordered a Cerberus and I'm convinced it'll be a perfect pedal board for my needs. I'm especially looking forward to not having to deep dive into an LCD screen using multi function buttons - I think I'm becoming allergic to it. Thanks a lot for some great videos - By the way, bonus riff points awarded for Plush!
Hey. Thx for the comment! The Cerberus will cover that need really well. One thing to note is the Cerberus has some of the firmest footswitches I’ve ever come across. Might not be the easiest in a gig situation with your fingers. I love Dean DeLeo. He’s an unbelievable songwriter and has an instantly recognizable style.
@@TheGuitarEffect Hi again (same guy - different account!), and thanks for your reply! I received it yesterday and I couldn't be happier with it. It's every bit as good as I hoped for. You certainly weren't joking about the firm footswitches! It's fine though. I spent this evening recording a little "demo" video in case there are other steel players who would be looking for something like this. So if you're interested, you can find it on this account. Thanks again!
I'd love to get one to pair with my Nux Amp Academy using the 4 cable method, it seems like they're a match made in heaven. That way I'll have great sounds, a lot of hands-on control and possibly no option paralysis.
Hey man.Thx for the comment. I made a video about just that! No MIDI between them which would be great but take a look and see what you think: ruclips.net/video/P_Tq4uYSews/видео.html
Thank you very much man for this demonstration, the sounds that you have gotten from it are spectacular but they undoubtedly have a lot to do with how you attack and play the guitar, which would be another way of saying the same thing as your claim at the beginning. In another of your videos I saw you combining the Cerberus in a pedal board with few elements with an American sound pedal, could you tell me what function you give it? It turns out that after this video, it is difficult for me to imagine (except of course that wonderful amp from what you get your clean here) that you may need more gear.
Hey. Thx for the comment. Really glad you found the video helpful. So in all honestly I’m a completely average guitar player so I don’t think my playing is especially painting the Cerberus in an extra good light. It’s just a brilliant unit in its own right. The other video uses the American sound as a preamp in the effects loop of the Cerberus combined with ten onboard IR loader for going ampless. So that’s why I made that video. You can achieve very similar results to using an amp. In relation to your third point. Whether or not this is enough by it’s self depends entirely on what your requirements are. For example I play in 2 bands. A wedding band where I’m the guitar player mostly and occasionally sing and an original band where I’m the sole guitar player and singer. For the wedding band this is perfectly adequate as I only need a few presets and basic sounds. But for the originals band I need 4 presets per song, (so I need to be able to name the presets) I need MIDI to control an external loop pedal, I need rotary, octave, fuzz, whammy and more immersive reverbs than the ones on offer on the Cerberus so I couldn’t even think about using it for that
@@TheGuitarEffect It's really unusual and very kind of you to pass me all this information, I guess then that when you play with your band you use several pedals, on a pedalboard, that are capable of fulfilling all these requirements. I appreciate your humility, but I still think you're a very good guitar player. If you allow me one last question, do you think that the modulation part of the Cerberus would also serve to supply fx to a high level acoustic guitar?
Hey. So for live shows with my band I use this pedalboard. It’s way more complex and expensive but it’s absolutely amazing: ruclips.net/video/G98NQQ12_l0/видео.html
There’s this thing called RUclips where you can go and get exact details about how the unit works. Oh yes and the internet has this thing called google, go there and u can find a manual for the unit as well… just a thought 🧐🤣
2022 ppl still talking about this unit, so what to do? bought one... arriving tomorrow and I can hardly wait, the analog drives and many features sold on me, nice playing btw.
Hey Francisco. Thx for the comment. I’m not surprised people are still talking about it. Actually on that note the idea that the newest gear is the best gear is not something I subscribe to at all. It just drives views on RUclips channels and obviously brands want to get their newest stuff out there. But for example I was looking for one of these and could get one for 5 weeks and there is nothing out that’s new that can do what it does. New gear is not always the best IMO. It’s the analog drives, the IR capabilities, the no menus thing, the excellent delay and reverb and the switching capabilities that makes this a no brainer for the money. Unreal.
Hey Deadzid. I can’t see any way to turn it on or off. Or even include or omit it from a preset. Which is unfortunate but again it’s one blip on its record and it’s so great and affordable I reckon it’s forgivable!
Hi Rob, I'm still thinking of getting one of these off an ads website that'd probably the same one you got it off to use with my American sound 😅, as I've just agreed the sale of a boss gt1. Just re the cab sim, you said (maybe in another vid) that you loaded your own IRs that you didn't like the ones in he unit. Is that just a matter of taste, would the stock IRs sound usable and did your own one make a big difference? Thanks
Hey Padawan. Hope all is well. I only used the line6 allure pack deluxe 112 IR because I know it. There’s nothing wrong with the on board IRs. However worth noting the allure IR pack is free from the Line6 website
Hey. I’ve actually never played the MG30 So I can’t comment on it. I can say though that the Cerberus is meant to be used with an amp and the MG30 Is meant to be an all round solution.
Hey Bobby thx for the comment. I as disappointed to see the Trident didn’t have the analog drive section the Cerberus has but on reflection digital drive has come on a long way.
Hey. Thx for the comment. No IR in use I’m playing through the Cerberus into the clean channel of my Koch studiotone 20 head and using the emulated output (analog) for cab sim
The overdrive is apparently a clone of the JHS Morning Glory and the distortion is the JHS Angry Charlie. The clue for this was actually in the software at one point, where the graphics for the pedals had the little icon/logo for both. Not sure if you ran across this theory in your subsequent videos!
Hey. Thx for the comment Mark! You are indeed correct that’s exactly what they are based on and pretty unashamedly so! I must admit the overdrive and distortion behave very differently depending on which amplifier you are using which I always find to be a sign of a good gain pedal. They are both a little dark though.
Looks great, but having to turn off the Mod to turn on Distortion doesn't make sense. I have the Fly Rig, it's half the width and less options but a great hassle free solution, I ditched the over complicated Headrush MX5 very quickly in favour of the Fly Ring.
Hey Toneranger. How’s it going. So I think Maybe I was changing a preset with mod on to one with distortion on. Just to be clear you do not have to turn off the mod to turn the distortion on. The Cerberus is very impressive. I had the flyrig. It was great but too limited for me.
Yeah man, it's funny how guitarists can get hung up on the wrong side of gear. As long as it helps you create and discover something, who gives a damn about the name on the box. That being said, I must've missed this video when you first posted it. This thing is amazing! Let all the people with more money than sense buy the expensive stuff. Means there's more awesome, affordable gear for the rest of us.
Thx Luke. It just think stuff that sounds good and works well is what we all need. And this does both. I w just done 3 videos of the Tident the follow up to the Cerberus. It’s fantastic too. I’m really liking what these guys are doing.
Can it do dotted 8th delays via tap tempo with the right subdivisions settings. I'm using mooer red truck and i can do it there, tap in quarter and get dotted 8th result.
@@TheGuitarEffect sorry i just skip thru some parts , im quick checking vid while cleaning up things in our small café. Yeah got it around 22:00 Thank you very much
So they’re actually quite different. The main difference are the fly rig us predominantly for playing direct and long he Cerberus kind of needs an external preamp to do that (in my opinion) The Cerberus has a far wider array of effects and switching options. But it is more complicated. For my needs the Cerberus would win every time but the flyrig is simpler, lighter and smaller.
I just got one today. The main thing I’m pretty shocked by is how dark the overdrive gets when you turn the gain down lower than 12 o’clock. It becomes unusable muddy. I A/B’d it with other overdrives and this is by far the worst. I don’t know why any of the reviews don’t talk about this
There's only one video of this with bass, but the guy's bass has flat wound strings, so it's muddy as be damned. Have you heard this used with bass, at all? I've only come across one of these for sale this evening, and I'm kinda fascinated.
Hey. I have a bass bit only really ever use it for songwriting so the effects are always added in the DAW. One thing I do know is the bassists I play with always use drive pedals that have a clean blend to preserve low end and this doesn’t have that as far as I’m Aware of
@@TheGuitarEffect yeah, I did a bit more digging, and I just need to switch off my pedal impulse and deal with the fact that it's not gonna work for me 😂
Hey Z Mahmood. Thx for the comment. Unfortunately I’ve never played an ME80 so I couldn’t answer taht. One thing is I’m pretty sure the ME80 has amp simulation which this doesn’t but simultaneously the OD and Distortion on the Cerberus is analog which at this kind of price point is likely to be a good thing.
Got one real cheap, in comparison with my other boutique preamps I would say it sounds good, very versatile, I just wish it looked better, it's not snobbery but I would pay full price for it it didn't have those ugly orange letters. A better combiation fo color knobs and some cool graphics would defenitely make it a serious competition for other better positioned brands in the market.
Hey. Thx for the comment. So I’ve thought a lot about what you’ve said, I get one people like guitar effects to have a pleasing aesthetic, it’s particularly prevalent in more recent years but personally I just don’t get it. If it sounds good and works well I think that it’s kind of immaterial what it looks like. But again that’s just my own opinion
Hey meng. Thx for the comment. I’m not an authority on IR’s but I’m using the line 6 allure pack deluxe 112 IR with it. But more importantly you’ll need a preamp pedal in the loop for sure.

But for the originals band I need 4 presets per song, (so I need to be able to name the presets) I need MIDI to control an external loop pedal, I need rotary, octave, fuzz, whammy and more immersive reverbs than the ones on offer on the Cerberus so I couldn’t even think about using it for that
@@TheGuitarEffect
It's really unusual and very kind of you to pass me all this information, I guess then that when you play with your band you use several pedals, on a pedalboard, that are capable of fulfilling all these requirements.
I appreciate your humility, but I still think you're a very good guitar player.
If you allow me one last question, do you think that the modulation part of the Cerberus would also serve to supply fx to a high level acoustic guitar?
Hey. So for live shows with my band I use this pedalboard. It’s way more complex and expensive but it’s absolutely amazing:
ruclips.net/video/G98NQQ12_l0/видео.html
I’ve used the Cerberus for an acoustic solo gig for delay, reverb, tremolo, and a boost before and it was outstanding.
Thanks for clarifying it for me, in that situation did you also need the American Sound pedal and the IRs, or not?
The delay/reverb basically seems to be the Atlantic, which is a great pedal.
Hey. Thx for the comment! Yeah I’m pretty sure it’s the Atlantic alright. Which really makes this great value for money.
I've had it for a year and I didn't know how the presets and its edit mode function :)
There’s a lot about the Cerberus that’s not obvious mate. Thx for the comment!
Unreal.
hi! great video, man. i've one quick question...
is there a way to turn the "effects loop" on/off?
or is it just stays on? thanx in advance.
Hey Deadzid. I can’t see any way to turn it on or off. Or even include or omit it from a preset. Which is unfortunate but again it’s one blip on its record and it’s so great and affordable I reckon it’s forgivable!
@@TheGuitarEffect alright thanx for the input... well i guess I could throw in a noise gate or eq pedal and just leave it always on 😄
Nice one!
Cheers Garrett.
@@TheGuitarEffect great thanks Rob
@TheGuitarEffect I pulled the trigger on this, got one from adverts that's due tomorrow. Looking forward to it
Can this unit control the Tonex via MIDI?
No. Not really
Please suggest between nux mg30 and nux ceberus
Hey. I’ve actually never played the MG30 So I can’t comment on it. I can say though that the Cerberus is meant to be used with an amp and the MG30 Is meant to be an all round solution.
Looking forward to the trident
Hey Bobby thx for the comment. I as disappointed to see the Trident didn’t have the analog drive section the Cerberus has but on reflection digital drive has come on a long way.
Looking forward to trying it too.
You can actually run the drives and delay/reverb in *parallel*!!!
Such a cool unit
Yeah it’s very highly featured.
Hi! Could you please confirm if you are using some IR on this demo, if yes which, native or loaded? Thank you very much
Hey. Thx for the comment. No IR in use I’m playing through the Cerberus into the clean channel of my Koch studiotone 20 head and using the emulated output (analog) for cab sim
My Fav Multi fx.
Yeah it really is extremely good for the money. Thx for the comment. 👍
So I think
Maybe I was changing a preset with mod on to one with distortion on.
Yes it can. I actually demonstrated that in the video about 3/4 the way thorough.
@@TheGuitarEffect sorry i just skip thru some parts , im quick checking vid while cleaning up things in our small café.
Yeah got it around 22:00
Thank you very much
No probs at all mate. It’s a very long video.
Cerberus or Tech21 Fly rig?
So they’re actually quite different. The main difference are the fly rig us predominantly for playing direct and long he Cerberus kind of needs an external preamp to do that (in my opinion)
The Cerberus has a far wider array of effects and switching options. But it is more complicated.
For my needs the Cerberus would win every time but the flyrig is simpler, lighter and smaller.
@@TheGuitarEffect thanks for your quick response!👍
Thank you
Hey. Thx for the comment! And you are welcome. New video on the Cerberus coming this week.
I just got one today. The main thing I’m pretty shocked by is how dark the overdrive gets when you turn the gain down lower than 12 o’clock. It becomes unusable muddy. I A/B’d it with other overdrives and this is by far the worst. I don’t know why any of the reviews don’t talk about this
Hey Sk 1979. I did mention I had to have the tone up on the overdrive quite far. But I did find this solved the problem.
Check YT clip about the secret EQ option
There's only one video of this with bass, but the guy's bass has flat wound strings, so it's muddy as be damned. Have you heard this used with bass, at all? I've only come across one of these for sale this evening, and I'm kinda fascinated.
Hey. I have a bass bit only really ever use it for songwriting so the effects are always added in the DAW. One thing I do know is the bassists I play with always use drive pedals that have a clean blend to preserve low end and this doesn’t have that as far as I’m
Aware of
@@TheGuitarEffect yeah, I did a bit more digging, and I just need to switch off my pedal impulse and deal with the fact that it's not gonna work for me 😂
Yeah I wise decision I reckon.
How does this compare with the ME80? Which one is better?
Hey Z Mahmood. Thx for the comment. Unfortunately I’ve never played an ME80 so I couldn’t answer taht. One thing is I’m pretty sure the ME80 has amp simulation which this doesn’t but simultaneously the OD and Distortion on the Cerberus is analog which at this kind of price point is likely to be a good thing.
@@TheGuitarEffect thanks for the info
No sweat. Hope it hells
I wish it had stereo outputs.
Hey. Thx for the comment. The Trident is in stereo and it’s pretty good. Different but good.
That's a very featured unit. It's not difficult to see how this could be a gigging solution
Hey man. It’s really really good. I’m
Seriously impressed.
Sorry was signed into YT on the band acc
@@TheGuitarEffect we've all been there 😂😂 it'll make the algorithm think 3 people are talking rather than 2 anyway, so win win 😉👍
Happy days!
Please this Cerberus has recommended IR? Built-in Ir sounds boring
Hey meng. Thx for the comment. I’m not an authority on IR’s but I’m using the line 6 allure pack deluxe 112 IR with it. But more importantly you’ll need a preamp pedal in the loop for sure.
@@TheGuitarEffect Can you share me or buy you with you? I want to try
Hey meng you can download them for free here: line6.com/allure/
New band name: everything but the fuzz.
Hmm. Cool name. But let’s face it people are very much gonna want: everything and the fuzz!!!
@@TheGuitarEffect Yup. I would be all about this product if it had a fuzz.
Switches are incredibly loud.
They are a particular type of very stiff switch and are noisy alright. Doesn’t bother me though.
I have one 4 years now and still enjoy it. Some nice settings in this demo with all the switch settings ruclips.net/video/p55me40v3Gc/видео.html
Thanks for your comment Rudger. I’ll check out that demo.
