  • Prime Minister Justin Trudeau releases his government's plan aimed at solving Canada's housing crisis. He is joined at the news conference in Vaughan, Ont., by Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland and Housing Minister Sean Fraser.
The plan contains measures that have been recently announced by the government ahead of its federal budget, which is scheduled to be tabled on April 16. Previously unannounced measures include plans to build affordable housing on underused public lands and additional investments to address homelessness.
The prime minister faces questions about new testimony from Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) director David Vigneault at the inquiry on foreign interference, and NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh's stance on the carbon price. He is also asked about conditions for the provinces to access housing funds, and the Alberta government's new bill that seeks to stop the federal government from negotiating directly with municipalities without provincial approval.
