This is a really good video here I'm thinking of buying one of these and you have managed to answer a lot of the questions that I would ask also explaining in detail how to configure that digital display, I think they look a lot better than the golf, people say to me get a golf R but I love the shape of these.
Having owned a MK7 Golf R - i felt like i had the complete package with the four wheel drive system! However having driven the Cupra 290, I came to realise that the front wheel drive system was really not that far off in terms of handling, and if anything it is delivering power quicker to the front wheels, then the case with the Golf R and distributing power to all four. In terms of shape, the car is sleek and stylish, not screaming out in terms of aesthetics such as the Civic type R for example, yet still providing a complete performance package. Im looking forward to CUPRA's next move :)
@@sultan7r144 my Cupra R MK2 was 279hp with an intake too when it was meant to be 265 from stock. I think he was wrong about the differential as well. It only has an electronic diff not a mechanical one. I had to buy a wavetrac mechanical diff for my MK2 and it completely changed the car with cornering 😋
I've got one in desire red paint. I really love the car. Its not a car you buy to be seen in, its the car you buy to drive. The fun begins above at least 60mph. And below 40mph dont event put it in cupra mode, it just spins the tires. It feels so light and agile and when you put the traction control in sport mode it really lets you have fun! I once took my friends girlfriend for a drive (and he drives a WRX STi 2018) and she really went nuts about my cupra (shook for 15 minutes afterwards telling me I'm crazy). I don't think I could have as much fun or acceleration in subaru, when I drove it it felt so heavy, complicated and slow responding. And I drove many 90's hot hatches like 205GTI, renault 19 16V, golf mk2 gti, bmw's, so its not like its just the seat's fancy new tech. However, the steering does feel a bit numb in cupra. This may be one of last true hot hatches ever. And I got it for a price of an A3 1.6TDI (25000 euros, tax free with DSG and a lot of options)
Had one for a day from a car dealer when I worked in the industry. Took it from Swindon to Dorset, then across to Swansea then up through mid Wales up to Lancashire. Cold winter weather, snowing as well but the grip was astonishing. I actually thought it was AWD. Was surprised to find out it wasn’t as I had driven a few Golf Rs / S3 etc and it handled the same. No wheel spin at all. Better than an Audi TT FWD, which I don’t think grip very well.
The turbo is the IS38 turbo in the golf R, Leon Cupra and Audi S3. IS20 turbo is in the Golf GTI and Audi S1. The IS12 turbo is in the Polo GTI and Seat Ibiza cupra (2016/66). Great vid lads👍🏽.

My original comment was just to clear up which type of turbo was in the Leon Cupra. In the video he didn’t even know what turbo was on his car? Carlton Banks im not having a go or anything or trying to make a point. I have a Cupra 280 st 2015 and i got it all prepared for a remap. I got full service with motor sport engine oil turbo technics intake hose and a bmc panel filter. Went to r tech to get a stage 1 remap and they advised me not to get it done due to excessive play in the turbo shaft. Im pissed off and gutted. Now im planning on getting shut of the car because ive had nothing but problems with it. I dont even drive the car hard or only now and then in short bursts. Also the front diff failed and seat had it for over 5 weeks

Great informative vid guys. Really honest review. You are correct regarding the 310/315bhp in standard form. I have a 19Plate in metallic grey. When i took it for its first service, i asked the mechanic who did mine about the power issue? He just looked at me and said, the EA888 engine is a beast and they are all the same power from the S3, to the Golf R, to the Cupra 290. He also told me they have exactly the same mapping in the Ecu also. I love my Cupra by the way. Its so discreet and it certainly surprises a lot of so called performance cars. Good job again guys. Keep up the great work 👍

Cupra 380nm vs Golf 400nm torque. The cupra is lighter. Brand new the cupra is a good lease car as the discounts are huge compared to VW and Audi. It's not smoking a golf on a launch due to the traction. You can't just plant your foot in a cupra.
How do you get the coloured cupra logo on the digital dash?? Next to the speedo? I have same cupra 290 bronze badge, mine doesn't have it and can't get any info on how put it on? Thanks😃
@@calbo555 Nope. A lot of the time a lease will cost less than the depreciation. Personal loan only works out if you get a very good interest rate and you plan to keep the car for a long time. Those who lease obviously don’t want that

Cupras don’t have an LSD, they have a clutch system in the differential, acts just like an LSD without the downsides of an LSD

Leon, Golf & A3 are identical just with different panels and interior. The higher up you go the more you pay!
Audi and Golf have Aluminium subframes and better suspension components aswell as braking systems
