    I always respect footballers especially people such as Ronaldo and Messi, they are always getting the most useless criticism I have ever seen but always try to play at their best no matter what. Great video this is one of the best advice you can give a person 👏

      Thanks bro. Absolutely - they literally get thousands of pieces of criticism a day. It’s relentless. But they, like many other top performers, understand what criticism to listen to and act upon

    Hey Sam! I know you may not reply but honestly it would mean the world if you did.
    I came from a breakout football season and got called to do preseason with one of the best team in my country. I’ve been training with their B team for over a month and I might sign with them for the upcoming season with the hopes of finally achieving my childhood dream and making my professional debut.
    However, I’ve struggled with confidence, I’ve always been a creative, impactful player but in the friendly games I always find myself playing safe, I feel like I have no margin for error, I don’t take risks and I always leave the matches knowing that I can do soo much more & offer more to team but during the moment I have no confidence. I know the coach brought me there because he sees potential but I don’t have his trust yet or the my teammates trust for them to give me the ball more often. I’ve just really struggled, I want to be that impactful, creative player that I was. During games I always find myself thinking “how should I play” whereas before It would just be natural.
    Anything would help honestly, been following you for the longest time and I’d appreciate the advice.

      First off, congrats on your breakthrough season and the opportunity with a top team! It's completely normal to feel nervous and lack confidence when stepping up to a higher level. Perhaps try the following -
      1. Embrace the challenge: Believe in your abilities and see this opportunity as a chance to grow.
      2. Play to your strengths: Focus on what makes you creative and impactful, and let your unique style come through on the field.
      3. Stay positive and learn from mistakes: Don't dwell on errors, stay positive, and use each game as a chance to improve and show your potential.
      Just be patient, new environments take time to adjust to. I'm sure you'll smash it in time

    Amazing as always. 😅 being objective is by far one of the hardest things to do when you think of yourself but once you do that you're able to propel beyond what most people can think of. You really get the best out of all the information you receive. Thanks Sam🙏🏾

      Absolutely! That detachment takes a lot of willpower at times 😅 but I really do feel those who can remain objective during these moments have such an advantage over those who always take things personally

    Hi Sam, loving the content been watching your videos for a month or two now and wanted to request a video from you. Now I know the tips you give apply to all sports and athletes in general but I still think that goalkeeping needs some extra attention as in my opinion when you make a video about making mistakes it's mainly outfielder focused as mistakes outfielders make aren't as harsh as goalkeeper mistakes so if you could make a video on goalkeeping and how to handle the pressure that'd be great

    Superb Sam, you just get better and better!
    Particularly liked the inclusion of your own personal story from Cambridge.
    The longer I work in sport the more it affirms that performance issues are just that that, human, rather than specific domain centric.
    Emotional intelligence is the core element; that necessitates all the issues you mention, check the source, follow the evidence etc.
    Great podcast!

      As ever, thanks Jeffrey! Glad the personal story was welcomed - always unsure whether to include those! 100% with you on emotional intelligence. I first read Daniel Goleman's original book on it back at Cambridge actually! I'll have to do a refresher on that and think about doing a video on the topic. Thanks for the inspiration!

      @@SamMartinPeakPerformance Golemans most recent book Focus is also a great read. Though from a personal perspective, I dislike the word Focus used in that context. My own sport is highly visual and I prefer to restrict the word Focus to that visual context. I prefer to use the word Attention when referring to the mental context. Indeed Goleman himself seems to recognise that distinction as one of the first chapters of the book is titled “the anatomy of attention”

    How can I deal with injury I know you have posted a video about but I struggle mentally to rest it’s like I get in deep depression if I don’t play it feel like time is ticking for me. But at this moment I’m just getting worse bc of the injury and I haven’t played the football for two days and I’m struggling to go to the third day. What’s your advice?

    • @SamMartinPeakPerformance
      @SamMartinPeakPerformance  Год назад

      Just be patient bro - 2/3 days is not a lot of time all things considered. Focus on what you can do. Either rest up or do recovery work/exercises

    • @EssA_EST
      @EssA_EST Год назад

      @@SamMartinPeakPerformance I think the most helpful one is when I get criticized I shouldn't complain without asking why I got criticized in the first place.
      I should ask the person who criticized me why he did that and then I should improve myself. (Excuse my poor English😅)
      I hope you get what I am trying to say
