    I'm a former cast member and was lucky enough to go on this ride prior to official opening while on a shift in Toontown. Someone came running into the break room yelling that Rise was doing secret cast previews for stress testing, so we all sprinted over backstage to ride it. I have never been so mind blown in my life; it was absolutely unreal the energy in that experience with all fellow cast members. It was so difficult to not tell all of my friends and family all the details until months later when it opened! Truly a masterpiece of an attraction.
    LOVING this podcast. You guys are great.

      @@Itsaudriscott Ah, so cool! Yeah, I worked in Entertainment (characters) so we had to rush over on a break since we couldn't miss set time. When they did secret previews for Smuggler's Run, I went into the land for the first time while holding hands with a Rey performer that I'd never met, and we cried in front of the Falcon, hahah.

    If Runaway Railway passes 10/10 with its projection mapped faces, Rise HAS to pass the Fine Wine test too. Come on - those projected faces vs these wild animatronic figures, the storyline, the music, the cast members interacting

    • @OnAHeroicMission
      @OnAHeroicMission Месяц назад +3

      YES this absolutely killed me. There’s no way the mapped faces and almost completely projected sets can get a fine wine pass and ROTR doesn’t 😆

  • @kelsey7549
    @kelsey7549 4 месяца назад +21

    1:37:22 I feel like for the Fine Wine question. It needs to be thought of, if you were a kid, and Rise has ALWAYS been a Disney ride for you. Will it be a classic for them?
    The PeopleMover, Big Thunder, Carousel of Progress, etc. Are these thrilling? No. But a trip to Disney wouldn't be complete for me without getting that hit of nostalgia on those rides.
    I would 100% think Rise is a ride a Disney kid of today will want to take their own kid on in the future. And thus. A fine wine 🍷

    • @tk98jd
      @tk98jd 4 месяца назад +4

      I was scrolling the comments to see if someone would say this. Many classic rides at Disneyland are dated but I love them because of the nostalgia factor. ❤

  • @mikayla5524
    @mikayla5524 4 месяца назад +9

    I went on a solo Disney trip, and at the time wasn’t the biggest fan of Star Wars. I hadn’t seen the movies or anything but had been on the Star Tours ride. Due to the long wait times, I wasn’t overly fussed with going on rise of the resistance. I remember I was sitting on a bench in Galaxy’s Edge when I saw people SPRINTING past me and that’s when I realised it had just reopened and I thought to myself it would be the only time I would get on with a reasonable wait.
    IT WAS AMAZING. I could not get over it, I loved it so much that I braced the wait and waited to ride it again and also bought a lightning lane the next day. I went home (Australia) and couldn’t stop talking about how good it was.
    You definitely know a ride is good when someone who has no clue about the IP becomes obsessed with it ❤
    (And also in true fashion, one of my ride through broke down as we boarded into the top of the drop tower. Can’t remember what room it was but it had a fake control panel but you best believe I was pressing all the fake buttons. It was also cool going through the backstage stairwell!)

    Ryan's last almost fail is insane but I still enjoyed this episode. as much as I knew I would. I feel like we take for granted how much nostalgia plays into our love for older rides we all love and not take into account that we will someday feel nostalgia for the rides of today. The outdated tech on a good ride just becomes part of its charm, it only becomes a joke if the ride wasn't great to begin with.

      I agree. As a person who only goes to a theme park every 5 years or so, the concept of riding it 3-4 times in a few years and then getting bored isn't even an option. So I'm definitely looking forward to re-riding it in a few years

    One time we were waiting in the lightning lane for rise and it went down. We waited like 45 minutes, it went back up and then we were the first people on the ride. Empty ship not a person in sight. It really added to the experience and made it feel even creepy, like we actually got captured by the first order.

  • @JasmineDreams
    @JasmineDreams 4 месяца назад +6

    I don’t think it can pass the fine wine test given that some parts of it are already not working and we’ve seen Disney leave issues like this in “B mode” for years and years (ie. Yeti) so, for that reason alone, it’s already not aging like a fine wine. The only people that will feel like this aged like fine wine in 20-years are super hardcore Star Wars fans like these guests.

    Loved the review, and it was awesome seeing Ordinary Adventures! I've ridden the ride 30 times or more I'd say (I was there opening day for both parks).... I can confirm I went on right at dusk just after the sun set, they only have night and day mode as I remember noticing it was night in the ride vehicle windows showing Batuu and it had been much lighter still outside....
    This is my absolute favorite ride of all time by a huge margin, even having been on newer stuff like Beauty and the Beast in Tokyo... two things I'll mention as my favorites I didn't hear is (1) Watching your ship fly from Batuu out the rear window, and (2) I absolutely love how at the end when your ride vehicle locks into place before the drop, you see someone in the window across the way from you triggering their rescue pod which drops, so it makes it even more awesome when yours does moments later!
    Also as for emotional connection, is Byron's heart made of stone not to rejoice at having found Beck at the end? :-)
    I also think you should have added a special 11th test for Ride of the Resistance, Ride Merch, just so ROTR could have scored one higher than any other ride.

    When Byron, at the 45:00 mark, starts talking about his experience with getting information on the virtual queue, and then getting up early to get the best opportunity, that was me. January 16, 2020. Family trip to Disneyland. 5 of us, months in the planning, but we unbelievably picked the perfect week, as that Friday, our last day in the park, the 17th, Rise of the Resistance would debut. From researching the pitfalls at Hollywood Studios, I knew I had to ask as many questions of Cast members as I could. Fast forward the night of the 16th. I walked back and forth from the hotel to the esplanade, checking the gates. 11:00pm the gates closed, 12:30am people start lining up in front, and I make the decision to stand in front of gate 10 with 4 people in front of me. By 1am, the lines are past the monorail pillars, and I call and have anyone that want to go, come over and stand with me (at that time I wasn't sure about the holding lines and getting the virtual queue if you didn't get into the gates early). 5:30am the gates open, and we wait on main street, then the hub, then entrance to Tomorrowland and finally up near the old fast past kiosk by Astro Blasters. The time hits, and I believe, because we clocked in so early after the gates opened, we were lucky to get virtual group of 12. Quick decompression, grab a coffee and head to the hotel for a quick shower. Then... we get a notice, 30 minutes to enter the queue. Best day ever at Disneyland, best ride ever and memories we will never forget. Everything that anyone says about that first time, day or opportunity to see RotR, does not compare to being there.

    I had hyped Rise of the Resistance up a lot, despite only seeing videos of it, so we roped dropped and hurried towards it, we ended up only waiting in line for 20 minutes 😅
    We got on the ride and just as we got into the first room it broke down, we sat there for just about 20 minutes and got escorted off the ride backstage and everything (I was so excited about it 😂)

    the point about living vicariously through those you’re with is so real! I’ve only been on it once with my best friend who wasn’t a huge theme park person like me. Even though -I- was excited, getting to see her experience the excitement and wonder I get on every ride on this one was priceless (or $19 for the lightning lane lol). I loved it but my love for it is also in how much I want others to experience it and getting to see that joy on their faces!

    I’m not even a Star Wars fan. I’ve watched like one movie, do not care about the story or characters. But Rise Of The Resistance is my favorite theme park ride ever. It blows my mind and when I try to describe it to people I know I’m not doing it justice. I’ve never been so immersed in a story as this ride. It’s incredible. Visiting WDW in a couple weeks and I’m so stoked to get on it again. (And yes, I’m one of the suckers who pays for LL.)
    Edit: Now that I’ve finished the ep I feel like the fine wine test suffered from Star Wars fan bias. As a non-Star Wars fan, I ride this multiple times every time I go to WDW. But you can already see how Disney and Universal are scrambling to create rides that will outdo the other, and that includes Rise. As someone who has no emotional connection to Star Wars as a franchise, once other rides have this scale (which I’m confident they will), I’m not sure I’ll be as enthusiastic about riding this. Not that their answers are any less valid, but still.

    The first one should 100% have been a fail. Your average tourist is going to have a hard time getting on, especially at DHS in Florida. You guys are all regular visitors and you’re not thinking like people going for their once in a lifetime trip. I went to WDW last year and did not get on because I only spent one day at DHS and it was down for much of the day. I had other stuff I wanted to do. Whenever it came back up, the queue instantly jumped to 2 hours plus. I absolutely refused to pay the $22 plus tax that it cost that day to buy a Lightning Lane, especially given that it might just go down again anyway. It should have failed.

    im so late to this podcast, but yes!! The first time i went on rise in WDW (i think summer 2021, there was still the queue system), there were about 3 or 4 storm troopers walking around the hanger bay with the other 50 storm troopers. It was super cool!!

    As for the question Ryan posed regarding the backlash the ride is now seeing from people claiming, "It's overrated and not that great," I can understand where at least some of the argument comes from. (To be clear, I absolutely love it, but I do know some people who didn't and when they explained why, I understood.) While there are some people who are just contrarian and I can easily disregard those complaints, another set of complaints comes from the extended wait brought on by the constant long-running breakdowns. I mean, when I went to ride it, it broke down after I'd been waiting for 5 hours and I had to come back later in the day, where I had to wait another 3 hours. I thought it was worth it overall, but I can easily see how if you have any part of the experience that doesn't hit well or work for you, a wait of 8 hours for it would feel overrated. I don't agree, but I can understand it.

      I feel like it should have failed the difficulty for the average tourist test. Wasn't that question basically inspired by this ride? First it had the lottery that Ryan lost at 3 separate times, then you had to get there before the sun came up to get a spot, and even with standby, they talked about how strategic you have to be to get on it. Most tourists aren't going to do that, and with the amount of breakdowns...every time you get in line, you risk just wasting your time.

    This is my favorite episode by far! We got lucky and ran right into the ride as we were passing by to go to onto smugglers run. My friend yelled "Run!" and I didn't even question it. I had my children by the hand and was like RUN!! We were 10th in line. It was THE BEST ride experience we had ever been on and am so grateful for the timing when we walked by. This episode made me relive the ride and emotions. Absolutely amazing 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

    I will say one thing about this ride that kind of ticks me off about it, the line for the fast pass is probably the worst I been in (at least in disney world).
    It's SUPER narrow, claustrophobic and hard to breath in there. I kind of wish I was in the normal line waiting 30-60 minutes now, hearing that they have benches and air conditioning
    That being said...I'd still give it a 10/10, I know fast pass lines are usually not really themed but this one was sucking air out my lungs
