This was so fun! Thanks for having us! 🎉❤
Thanks for coming on!!
I never thought I would see 2 of my favorite RUclips channels together 😀
I'm a former cast member and was lucky enough to go on this ride prior to official opening while on a shift in Toontown. Someone came running into the break room yelling that Rise was doing secret cast previews for stress testing, so we all sprinted over backstage to ride it. I have never been so mind blown in my life; it was absolutely unreal the energy in that experience with all fellow cast members. It was so difficult to not tell all of my friends and family all the details until months later when it opened! Truly a masterpiece of an attraction.
LOVING this podcast. You guys are great.
This is how I rode it too! At another work location but they let us shuttle over! The cannons section really did scare me the first time!
@@Itsaudriscott Ah, so cool! Yeah, I worked in Entertainment (characters) so we had to rush over on a break since we couldn't miss set time. When they did secret previews for Smuggler's Run, I went into the land for the first time while holding hands with a Rey performer that I'd never met, and we cried in front of the Falcon, hahah.
Sucks for the people not on break
@@neonxfirefly Yeah, thankfully I think most people from my location that wanted to go were able to eventually! We spread the word and people were able to go on their lunches and breaks :)
Yaaa... Soooo I designed the ride and built in my basement... Soooo..... '(said in my best Kristen wigg voice)
I never thought I'd be disappointed when I hear no ads/sponsors -- I hope this podcast finds the funding to continue until they cover every theme park attraction EVER
I hate it mainly cause the ads will come in while their talking and it's annoying cause the team clearly put a spot for ads to go that wont interrupt the conversation and it's not working on RUclipss end
I went on a solo Disney trip, and at the time wasn’t the biggest fan of Star Wars. I hadn’t seen the movies or anything but had been on the Star Tours ride. Due to the long wait times, I wasn’t overly fussed with going on rise of the resistance. I remember I was sitting on a bench in Galaxy’s Edge when I saw people SPRINTING past me and that’s when I realised it had just reopened and I thought to myself it would be the only time I would get on with a reasonable wait.
IT WAS AMAZING. I could not get over it, I loved it so much that I braced the wait and waited to ride it again and also bought a lightning lane the next day. I went home (Australia) and couldn’t stop talking about how good it was.
You definitely know a ride is good when someone who has no clue about the IP becomes obsessed with it ❤
(And also in true fashion, one of my ride through broke down as we boarded into the top of the drop tower. Can’t remember what room it was but it had a fake control panel but you best believe I was pressing all the fake buttons. It was also cool going through the backstage stairwell!)
Ordinary Adventures are some of the best people in the theme park vlogging community. So cool to see them here!
They are some of my favorites!
They are Disney shills who are dishonest about their reviews. They are never critical of Disney and definitely bow to the mouse to stay on PR list
1:37:22 I feel like for the Fine Wine question. It needs to be thought of, if you were a kid, and Rise has ALWAYS been a Disney ride for you. Will it be a classic for them?
The PeopleMover, Big Thunder, Carousel of Progress, etc. Are these thrilling? No. But a trip to Disney wouldn't be complete for me without getting that hit of nostalgia on those rides.
I would 100% think Rise is a ride a Disney kid of today will want to take their own kid on in the future. And thus. A fine wine 🍷
I was scrolling the comments to see if someone would say this. Many classic rides at Disneyland are dated but I love them because of the nostalgia factor. ❤
Peter and Kitra were the perfect guests for this episode, a great listen!
one of my grad school friends did an imagineering internship shortly before galaxy’s edge opened, and i jokingly asked her “you think disney is threatened by wizarding world of harry potter?” and she looked me dead in my eyes and said “they are 100% ABSOLUTELY threatened by harry potter” 🤣
Harry Potter kicks the ass of Galaxy's Edge still
this is the craziest crossover to ever happen to me i feel like ryan bergara is watching me through my windows
Kitra saying the cannons are great when they worked is me having experienced the “real” Yeti my entire College program summer 😂
Byron's like I don't wanna speculate...meanwhile it was absolutely poaching 😂I love this podcast so much
#1 is NOT a pass. My nephew came with his son from out of state, the ride broke down, they returned to the standby line to check if it was running, and they were only taking the people who were in line when it broke down. They still haven’t been on it and it’s been a year. Yeah, lightning lane was available, but they had already paid $180/tix it seemed a bit pricey. The only thing that saved it was that he had made reservations to make a light saber and that was an experience that almost brought him to tears.
Can’t believe Radiator Spring Racers failed the average tourist test and you guys passed this one, Ryan’s hate for Cars and love for SW swayed him 😂
If Runaway Railway passes 10/10 with its projection mapped faces, Rise HAS to pass the Fine Wine test too. Come on - those projected faces vs these wild animatronic figures, the storyline, the music, the cast members interacting
YES this absolutely killed me. There’s no way the mapped faces and almost completely projected sets can get a fine wine pass and ROTR doesn’t 😆
Right?!?
It's almost like Runaway Railway shouldn't have passed the fine wine test in retrospect
I think they might rethink it
A pro that was missed, the integration of the original score. I legitimately get emotional as we are fleeing to the escape pods hearing the theme playing from the trench run.
I saw Ordinary Adventures on the thumbnail and was like 'oh they have a cool cover right now' and then noticed Ryan and was really confused. Did a doubletake and then realized Watcher was who posted it. Never have I clicked so fast in my life!
First time I rode this ride, we were on our honeymoon and waited over an hour at Hollywood Studios. We got stuck on the ride very shortly after it started, which was disappointing but also kinda cool to get walked off the way we did. We were comped a LL for the ride for whenever it was back up. We stayed close by and watched Rise like a hawk. I think we actually were able to hop on Smuggler's twice lol. Iirc everyone left Galaxy's Edge and got in line for TofT & Rockin' Rollercoaster haha. We were able to walk on the ride once it reopened. The blessing in disguise ended up being that we got to experience the pre-shows twice, and then really enjoyed the ride (which fortunately worked all the way through that time haha).
When rise of the resistant first opened, another youtuber suggested using your own cellular service instead of the park's wifi. Best advice ever and we were able to get one of the early boarding group.
I loved this ride and can't wait to ride it again. My best memory of the whole thing is how our stormtrooper entered the transport vehicle PRECISELY on his music cue. That, and the excruciatingly perfect amount of time they make you wait in the prison cell before you're broken out.
When those doors open after the hologram room and that imperial assault music plays while all the engines are starting up and the cast members are escorting you to the front of the shuttle doors, that moment just lives in my head rent free. It’s so sick and just starts the entire experience perfectly.
One time we were waiting in the lightning lane for rise and it went down. We waited like 45 minutes, it went back up and then we were the first people on the ride. Empty ship not a person in sight. It really added to the experience and made it feel even creepy, like we actually got captured by the first order.
My favorite thing about Rise are the cast members. Especially the “First Order Officers”. The FACT that they GET to be RUDE to Guests. SIGN ME UP FOR THAT GIG! I have a friend who’s a First Order officer, her stories are seriously THE BEST.
You'll have to go through hell at the Jungle Cruise for months then if you're a beautiful woman with a big b*tt you'll get the position
Ryan's last almost fail is insane but I still enjoyed this episode. as much as I knew I would. I feel like we take for granted how much nostalgia plays into our love for older rides we all love and not take into account that we will someday feel nostalgia for the rides of today. The outdated tech on a good ride just becomes part of its charm, it only becomes a joke if the ride wasn't great to begin with.
I agree. As a person who only goes to a theme park every 5 years or so, the concept of riding it 3-4 times in a few years and then getting bored isn't even an option. So I'm definitely looking forward to re-riding it in a few years
As a Hollywood Studios lover (apologist?), them asking “What else is there to do in Hollywood Studios?” felt like a kick to the stomach lol love this series though!
Right?!? Not everyone is that big of a Star Wars fan and wants to spend their day in GE. Personally I’m waiting 3 hours for Tower of Terror and then hopping into another 3 hour que for Rock n’ Roller Coaster before I’m waiting 60 minutes for Rise of the Resistance.
Regarding the comment at 41:37 that 'Rise' is the best version of stepping into an IP: Obviously, that's going to be a subjective opinion, but I think that the best example of this was Klignon Encounter at the now defunct Star Trek: The Experience in Las Vegas. The ride itself (if it were still open today) would be dated, but the pre-show stuff was top tier. It had a plausible story of why things are happening. Briefly, if you've never been on it, you get in line for the ride. The room goes dark and you hear transporter effects. When the lights come back on, you're in the transporter room of the Enterprise-D. You're escorted to the bridge and Riker (via the viewscreen) explains that they did a timey-wimey thing because one of you is the ancestor to Picard and the Klignon's are trying to Terminate™you to wipe him from existence. After that, you go on a shuttle and it's a more traditional simulator ride.
I have never clicked a Watcher Podcast video so fast....HECK YES to this collab!!!
Loved the review, and it was awesome seeing Ordinary Adventures! I've ridden the ride 30 times or more I'd say (I was there opening day for both parks).... I can confirm I went on right at dusk just after the sun set, they only have night and day mode as I remember noticing it was night in the ride vehicle windows showing Batuu and it had been much lighter still outside....
This is my absolute favorite ride of all time by a huge margin, even having been on newer stuff like Beauty and the Beast in Tokyo... two things I'll mention as my favorites I didn't hear is (1) Watching your ship fly from Batuu out the rear window, and (2) I absolutely love how at the end when your ride vehicle locks into place before the drop, you see someone in the window across the way from you triggering their rescue pod which drops, so it makes it even more awesome when yours does moments later!
Also as for emotional connection, is Byron's heart made of stone not to rejoice at having found Beck at the end? :-)
I also think you should have added a special 11th test for Ride of the Resistance, Ride Merch, just so ROTR could have scored one higher than any other ride.
I love this! Ordinary Adventures is so great! Please do a foodie one with Magic Journeys!!!
Woah Ordinary Adventures! These collabs are fantastic. Maybe we'll get a Magic Journeys collab as well?
FYA marathon this weekend
Yessss!!!!
Great episode guys! Love that you are passionate about the topic and podcast with your research. Keep it up!
i agree that rise of the resistance is the greatest ride ever. i love it so much and i hope others are inspired to create a ride like it. the first time i went, i waited in line for an hour, got to the front, and it shut down for an undetermined amount of time. i waited an hour and a half and my group wanted to leave. i was willing to keep waiting for the A-team but we came back when it was almost closing only to get the D-team-the people who are at the end of their shift and are tired. nobody was acting anymore 😭😭 the next time we went there first and the A-team rocked my socks off. i even got yelled at which i LOVED.
I’m so obsessed w this podcast please keep making episodes.
We need Provost on a canoes episode!
I LOVE Ordinary Adventures!! I’ve never been more excited for any podcast episode ever in my life
ORDINARY ADVENTURES !!!!! They're seriously my fave disney vloggers, so happy to see them here!
2 of my favorite RUclips channels crossing over ordinary adventures and watcher 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
woahhh watcher x ordinary adventures…. the collab i never knew i needed
I love when the content creators I watch collab!
Gotta say these collabs are absolutely top tier 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
“I want to see a shirtless Adam Driver in this ride!” I died. LOL! On the other hand, whenever I go on this ride with my son, we leave feeling excited. We have paid to ride and waited.
I got to see the cannons run ONCE. I think they tanked it pretty quick, but I saw it run ONE TIME, and it was only the one cannon, but I think the cars still pause for them like they think stuff is gonna happen lol
Feb 2020 I tried 2 times to get on RISE at Disneyland with my phone but failed. My 3rd attempt I got to the front of the line at the Adventureland entrance at rope drop, and ran to the kiosk to get a physical boarding pass … i got group 11. I hurt my knee … but it was worth it. 😂
Nice. Hope the knee is ok now. Did you take vid of the run? Lol
@@C_M_Rknee is good now, thanks. No video because I was focused on running .. but got pictures before and after the run at the kiosk and my boarding pass.
My favorite Disney RUclipsrs, my new favorite podcast, and my all time favorite attraction. What a time to be alive!! Another great episode!!
I always listen first and then head to RUclips to click and watch! Amazing episode, amazing pod!
This ride is world class because there will always be people who love Star Wars and it makes you feel like you’re in Star Wars. But I was wearing a Darth Vader shirt while watching this so I might be biased.
SO EXCITED TO SEE ORDINARY ADVENTURES HERE ❤❤
OMG OF COURSE Ordinary Adventures would do Rise! I think this may be my favorite of the podcast so far, the discussion and debates were so engaging, I could've listened for even longer. AMAZING collaboration, guys!!
Kitra and Peter brought me here 🫶🏼 so fun getting to know them outside of their channel.
Was looking forward to this!😊 Ordinary Adventures?! Even better!!
1st time watcher of Watcher Podcasts. Great deep dive. Glad to see Peter & Kitra! Have never been on this ride but already know, it's going to be best ride of all time. It's an experience more than simply a ride. Can't wait to see it myself oneday! Will be crying!
This was a really great episode. I appreciate the due diligence and thought experiments you put these rides through. I think you all put this ride through the ringer and ultimately came up with the best conclusion.
Nov 22, 2022 - App said 2.5 hrs but ended up waiting 4.5 hrs. We kept thinking, well we waited this long... Time seriously stood still 😮💨
1:07:32 “No. I wouldn’t like that, Byron.” Lolol
I was just thinking you all should do a collab with Ordinary Adventures! Dreams do come true!
I visited WDW for the first time last year which was also my first time seeing any of the Star Wars areas or rides. I of course loved Rise and Smugglers’ Run but gotta hand it to Star Tours, feel like it’s massively underrated. I rode it like 5 times. The best part it that there was no line at all.
Peter and Kitra! I love you guys! I am just now getting around to your Tokyo videos and I find myself smiling from ear to ear watching you experience the Tokyo parks! You guys have some of the best quality Disney content on the whole inter webs! What a great collab! I am loving this podcast!
I was Disneyland on opening day of Indiana Jones. The wait time was 7 hours. It started on Main St. Super fun experience. I also rode Rise the first time at Disneyland on reopening day after the pandemic. The cast members sent me through alone and it was so fun and creepy to experience it alone.
I’M HYPED!! Favourite ride on my favourite pod!
i had the pleasure of riding this ride with no spoilers going in, and this is by far one of the best rides in the world. the cast members do an amazing job making this attraction feel so special.
my favorite youtube worlds collide! thank you for this collab, happy fan girl over here!
When I first started listening to the pod I thought to myself, I hope they get ordinary adventures on!
This randomly popped up on my feed - probably because of Ordinary Adventures - but glad it did. I love the Muppet Vision hack strategy, I am a very bizarre person, Muppet Vision has a special place in my heart, so this perfect! Even if it doesn’t work you still get to have a Muppet Vision moment. 🤣
One small tidbit, during the transport where Poe leaves to get backup, if you look out the back, you will see Poe’s x-wing go into hyperspace
I just got to experience this ride so now I can finally listen to the podcast and I’m HERE FOR IT
This podcast is a game changer for this realm. Hosts are perfect with some heavy handed guests, just perfect. Thank you and keep it going!
love love love this! I love both your channels so when two worlds collide! Hopefully this gives peter and kitra more fans! They deserve it!
1) Great to see Ordinary Adventures here!! 2) I've done the way-too-early admission thing when I went to the 50th on July 17, 2005. I'm glad I did it but it was nuts. 😄 3) Ryan mentioned the live actors in Haunted Mansion - I actually experienced that! When I was a kid, in the door knocker area there was a knight that slightly lunged towards us as we rode by. Scared the crap out of me because I wasn't expecting it.
YES WITHE ORDINARY ADVENTURES NOW TOO???? I love this podcast so much🥺❤️❤️
Love this matchup. Great content and great collab.
ORDINARY ADVENTURES MAKE ME SMILE! THEY ARE SO SWEET AND GOOFY!
And Ryan is so adorable 😊.
I love the ride every time I’ve gone on it. I think it’s a brilliant ride. 10/10
This ride made me feel like a little kid again. I was in AWE! Thank you for doing this pod, it’s the best part of my week!!
Dude what a great episode…yeah I’m biased due to Imma huge OA fans. But the true honest opinion of this ride for everyone was great especially trying to get a perfect score was a true highlight of the episode…plus watching Ryan uncomfortable due to he’s own scoring process lol
the point about living vicariously through those you’re with is so real! I’ve only been on it once with my best friend who wasn’t a huge theme park person like me. Even though -I- was excited, getting to see her experience the excitement and wonder I get on every ride on this one was priceless (or $19 for the lightning lane lol). I loved it but my love for it is also in how much I want others to experience it and getting to see that joy on their faces!
For the final question, I think 30 years down the line, it will still have that wow factor for first-time riders, the surprises it throws at you really is one of a kind. But for subsequent rides, it starts to depend on your personal attachment to Star Wars universe because so much of the excitement comes from the technological achievements & unexpectedness of how the ride progresses.
I love SW so I do love this ride though. I was so shaken when the transporter opened and saw the Stormtroopers lining up when I first rode this. It still gives me chills at how big that showroom is. While I'm not the biggest Sequels fan, everything else in the worldbuilding is great enough to satisfy my OT loving soul (esp the AT-AT). I do hope maybe someday in the future we can have like overlays for OT or PT.
Wore my Star Wars shirt to bed and woke up to this video dropping I love it
My friends and I went opening weekend for Rise in Disneyland, and man, standing around on main street with everyone glued to their phones and waiting for the boarding passes to open was such a wild experience. Thanks for the reminder of those fun memories!
Rise of the Resistance was my first ride in a Disney park... ever. So glad it got a perfect score! This was as close as I can likely be to ever being in the world of the movies I watched as a kid.
My husband and I went to Disneyland for the very first time in October last year 🎃
I had hyped Rise of the Resistance up a lot, despite only seeing videos of it, so we roped dropped and hurried towards it, we ended up only waiting in line for 20 minutes 😅
We got on the ride and just as we got into the first room it broke down, we sat there for just about 20 minutes and got escorted off the ride backstage and everything (I was so excited about it 😂)
We of course got a lightning lane and got on it later that day, it was truly amazing, but I just find it so funny, I hyped it up so much and then it broke down within the first minutes after we got on it 😆
Yes good Ryan with passing it at the end 10/10 I agree 😁😁😁😁😁
My two favorite channels collide!
I want you to know I had to watch this in short segments because it's so long but here I am the NEXT day finally getting to the end and enjoying every minute of the final 20 min here. Great guests great podcast. I don't even really like them parks but this is just so well thought out and fascinating.
Stormtroopers in the hangar bay walking around like Peter mentioned have happened! They’ll use the hangar as a rain location whenever there’s inclement weather. Doesn’t happen very often, but it does happen.
Loved this episode! So happy you got Ordinary Adventures on!
Ok I would LOVE to see yall do podcasts discussing the parades and shows as well! This is such a fun show for all of us theme park fans
Absolutely loved this collaboration! Rise of the Resistance is truly a game-changer in the theme park world, and having Peter Sciretta and Kitra Remick from Ordinary Adventures join the discussion brought so much insight and excitement.
This is a great podcast but I am so glad you have ordinary adventures because they are the best and when I go to Disneyland, I’m a passholder I ride rise of the resistance at least twice every time I’m there the best ride
My daughter was so mad at me for taking her on this ride. It was all our first time no one knew what to expect, and when darth kylo ren cut into the space ship she stifled her cry knowing that he’ll hear her if she’s loud.
I worked at DHS and had to do opening crowd control for, had the microphone making dad jokes and giving MDE instructions… def a fun time to be working
im so late to this podcast, but yes!! The first time i went on rise in WDW (i think summer 2021, there was still the queue system), there were about 3 or 4 storm troopers walking around the hanger bay with the other 50 storm troopers. It was super cool!!
My very being exploded when I saw Peter and Kitra in the thumbnail! 😍 My 2 world's just collided and I wasn't ready for it! 😭❤️
Would love to see an episode on the Starcruiser
Love this pod and amazing crossover (is Ryan reading my search history?)
Some how on may 4th 2021 my wife got us on the ride. In Florida and the cannons worked then.
The ride is incredible
I’m not even a Star Wars fan. I’ve watched like one movie, do not care about the story or characters. But Rise Of The Resistance is my favorite theme park ride ever. It blows my mind and when I try to describe it to people I know I’m not doing it justice. I’ve never been so immersed in a story as this ride. It’s incredible. Visiting WDW in a couple weeks and I’m so stoked to get on it again. (And yes, I’m one of the suckers who pays for LL.)
Edit: Now that I’ve finished the ep I feel like the fine wine test suffered from Star Wars fan bias. As a non-Star Wars fan, I ride this multiple times every time I go to WDW. But you can already see how Disney and Universal are scrambling to create rides that will outdo the other, and that includes Rise. As someone who has no emotional connection to Star Wars as a franchise, once other rides have this scale (which I’m confident they will), I’m not sure I’ll be as enthusiastic about riding this. Not that their answers are any less valid, but still.
NEW FAVORITE PODCAST!!!!!
Greatest ride/experience ever created!
Can we just keep ordinary adventures on the podcast? The 4 of you work well together
Most of my family aren't big Star Wars fans but we loved the ride
The first one should 100% have been a fail. Your average tourist is going to have a hard time getting on, especially at DHS in Florida. You guys are all regular visitors and you’re not thinking like people going for their once in a lifetime trip. I went to WDW last year and did not get on because I only spent one day at DHS and it was down for much of the day. I had other stuff I wanted to do. Whenever it came back up, the queue instantly jumped to 2 hours plus. I absolutely refused to pay the $22 plus tax that it cost that day to buy a Lightning Lane, especially given that it might just go down again anyway. It should have failed.
