Homefront: The Revolution has an arcade cabinet that you can find with Timesplitters 2 on it. Normally it only has two levels on it but one of the devs mentioned the whole game is there. Fortunately there are codes that can unlock everything else in the game like the story, arcade, and challenges. And apparently it can also run in native 4K so it happens to be one of the best ways to play it.
@@MandaloreGaming i literally looked up that video on impulse an hour before noticing this upload get out of my head stop telling me the worms are in my skin
For the timespitters thing at the end of the episode, it's timesplitters 2 that's on Homefront the Revolution. It's like halfway into the game on some random arcade machine you have to input a code into to get. Also, the emulator comes with cheats that you have to put a very long button combo in right before the game screen appears, so I have very fond memories of one of my friends spending literal hours trying to input the "unlock multiplayer" code at my house.
It's actually not an emulator, but a WIP HD remaster they slapped in there. There's also a mod out there that (along with fixing up various issues with the remaster) strips out as much of Homefront as possible while still leaving TimeSplitters 2 fully intact and bootable, in case you really don't have any interest in Homefront.
It's insane to me that it only exists because someone thought to hide it in Homefront. There's so much WIP stuff lost from the industry that it makes me think games companies should release "blooper reel" discs full of abandoned projects so that we at least have some historical record they existed.
Yeah this game perfectly represents where the genre was just before cod 4 came out. I like to call the era between 1998 and 2007 the "Half Life/ Medal of Honor Paradigm" as those were the two most prominent franchises. I find it to be perhaps the most interesting time in fps history, even if many of the games were mediocre if not outright bad. At the very least devs were trying all sorts of new and interesting things, unlike the modern military phase from 2007-2013 where everything became one indistinguishable blob. Edit: I'll also add Halo in as the other big fps franchise, but it kinda stood out as it's own thing with nothing to really match it except maybe Haze and the first Killszone, both of which sucked.

This game, Singularity, and darkest of days all have something that could make a Really fun “time” game where you control time, manipulate other people and object’s’ time, and going into other time periods with weapons from different time periods
Darkest of Days cliffhanger ending is my most painful moment in gaming. So much potential... The time when games were made with passion. The other 2 also have (semi) cliffhanger endings.
There's an early 2000's time travel game I think was called Darkest Days? All I remember was a civil war guy getting a future gun and one of the level designers posted a screenshot from a Roman level on the Something Awful forums.
I remember playing the demo to that a bunch just because I was interested in the premise. You play as a soldier who would've died in General Custer's last stand only to get rescued/recruited by time travelers.
Hey core, would you be surprised to know that at the same time this video was published, I was hosting a TimeShift multiplayer server and playing with a couple friends? :D We need more, there's a Discord for this game
'TimeShift' is a great description for a lotta games like this, and reviews of these games. It feels like a timeless blend of stuff like this. Hallways. Grey. Guns. Madness. MandaloreGaming.
Reminding me of this ancient memory also made me remember an fps game from the same era, where you fought mythical creatures invading earth. Specifically I remember gryphons and I think werewolves being fairly prominent. The big last boss was a Kraken attacking London and I think he tore down Big Ben. The ending teased sequel that never came out.
There's something about this era of games, they look so good graphically and you can feel "a soul" ; you could feel that the devs put there heart into it. Also I found it funny that music tastes could be so different, what mandalore calles "generic action music" is goddamn eargasm to my ears, especially coming someone who praised the warhammer mechanicus ost.
@@Gruntvc I don't think Sony killed off Resistance, I think Resistance 3 killed off Resistance. The game looked exotic but played like a typical 7th gen FPS and sold poorly (about 1 million copies globally vs. Resistance 1's 3.9 million). That's enough to kill off a franchise in that era, especially when Sony was in the market for new IPs to sell 8th-gen consoles with after their 7th gen exclusives 'lost' to Microsoft's. Still a shame, given that a million copies was still a lot for 2011, granted. And the Resistance games still sold way better than the Killzones ever did, yet Killzone survived to make an 8th-gen release.
@@Supercohboy Resistance 3 is no way in hell a typical 7th gen FPS, it didn't have regenerating health (you had to collect items to restore it), your weapons could level up and you could carry all of them (as far away from the 2-weapon limit as you could get), and it was very setpiece-driven, closer to Half-Life 2, hell, it even used the 7th gen piss filters in a clever way, where each level had a different colour, instead of all of them being brown. It didn't sell well because the previous game was a complete dumpster fire and PS3 owners were expecting and buying different games than Xbox 360 owners. There was no place for Halo Killers in the PS3 anymore, which is a shame, since R3 is the game that I think came the closest to being one.
I swear Mandalores videos are basicly all about my old junk box full of games nobody ever heared or played but i loved as a kid. I've played this game multiple times when I was younger and never had any idea it took place in what is supposed to be 1939, I suspect the speech and mixed artsyles really confused me with that.
"When it comes to remakes, this is more the kind of thing I'd wanna see. An amazing idea with flawed execution." See this is something I fully agree on because while I love the idea of old favorites being remade into modern packages, usually it falls short and winds up being subpar compared to what comes out these days. Conversely, games that never had their chance to shine but brought something fun and unique to the table ought to be given a second chance to impress us and become new favorites.
You might disagree with this, but as someone who legitimately studied it: hotdogs are considered sandwiches in the culinary world; and the toasted biscuits or crackers with cheese and meat, or other toppings is called a canapé, which, you guessed it: is classified as a sandwich.
Picked this up used a few days ago for my Xbox after remembering it being a hidden gem as a kid, the timing is amazing. It's definitely not perfect but it's a pretty solid shooter from the time!
God I loved TimeShift, the weapons, the look of the lighting, the little puzzle fights you could optimize, the cool time espionage flashbacks. All it was missing was SSAM going full Cortana (or GladOS)
when my parents got us a 360 for christmas we had Halo 3, CoD 4, and Timeshift. I was not allowed to play Timeshift because the blood effect that could splatter the camera was deemed to violent by my dad
One word for this game: ATMOSPHERE. This game has managed to be more immersive than most “post apocalyptic” games have in the past and after. This game was the closest to feeling like playing in a more SciFi version of Children of Men
I played this on the 360 as a teenager, definitely agree with your review here. A story with zero substance but compelling mechanics. I loved the enemies that also had time powers, getting to see thrm teleporting around or running super fast so you can see how you must look when activating your powers was pretty cool.
When I clicked on this video I was like "Yeah, I've played TimeShift before", took me 5 min to realise that I had never played this before and was thinking about Singularity.
Fantastic video as always my pookiest of pookie bears, my dear Mandalore. I found it a bit odd when you went into that 3 minute rant around the middle about why "Drake's meat aint even allat big to me", but apart from that, marvellous!
Ah finally, I´ve been waiting for the two time travelling games 😎 I love the gameplay so much, you really do feel like a superhero. The vague setting and convoluted design is in this case good enough for me, and the weapons are so fun to balance it all out. Like the last weapon you get looks like a mess and IS a mess. Each shot drains like 1/10th of its magazine, but theres an alternate firemode with which you can fire for a split second, using like 0.5% of its magazine but dealing the same damage/killing an enemy instantly. Oh, and the enemy also has the gun ofc.
Back in the day I was hyped for Timeshift to come out but was disappointed when it finally did. This needs to be remedied somehow. Best cast scenario might be a remake.
This is the first game I played on the 360. This and Dark Sector DS still holds up kind of I just finished a playthrough. I could never remember the name of this game I'm definitely going to play it.🙏🏼
A long time ago I read about a time-based RTS that came out an even longer time ago. Apparently it is called "Achron". Could be up your alley. It has time travelling units and a moving "time window" in which you can move forward and backward.
Im so hyped to watch this video, time shift was one of the games of my childhood, sadly nobody exept for me knew about it, so i couldn't explain the awesomeness of exploding crossbow bolts with delay
There's a delay? I've tried some in Multiplayer yesterday but they blow up on impact, no? You can delay the grenade launcher though, to make it bounce on walls first. If you want to play together, there's a dedicated Discord and we might play today or next week
Fun fact : when i was like 14 i wanted this game bad. My brother got it for me as a random gift. Turns out, he got me "Haze", not timeshift because the helmet looked similar and he had forgotten the name of the game. Everyone who knows Haze knows we didn't play that for very long
Bro, you just unlocked memories I didnt know i had. This game and singularity, despite their flaws, were cool to me, especially the time mechanics, 00s games loved playing with time. I guess i wont replay them anytime soon lol, but i still had fun. Also i remember almost nothing except the time thing and shooting, which isnt a good sign, so better leave the memories alone.
Words can not describe how much i love Mandalore and his style. Thank you for another killer review sir. That clip of the dudes talking about the game was most wholesome stuff, nostalgia I didn't even realize I needed. And keep those Marv electrocutions coming :) , my all time favorite.

@@halo3guy 🤦♂I was wondering what that was about, good catch.
As soon as I thought, "Wow, he didn't use the Home Alone sound in this video." There it was; right at the last possible moment. Glorious.
There's an early 2000's time travel game I think was called Darkest Days? All I remember was a civil war guy getting a future gun and one of the level designers posted a screenshot from a Roman level on the Something Awful forums.
I played it in 2009. when it came out... it was pretty shitty then, not gonna lie, but at least the premise was intriguing.
fun fact, one of the devs who worked on Darkest of Days later went on to make Brigador
I remember playing the demo to that a bunch just because I was interested in the premise. You play as a soldier who would've died in General Custer's last stand only to get rescued/recruited by time travelers.
@@indigotyrian Love this news
"Darkest of Days"
The only thing i can remember is it being a neat idea, but at best just a mediocre game overall
Thanks for the return to more weird games Mandalore. I appreciate the break form the cavalcade of horror videos.
Holy shit my comfort FPS got a review from Mandalore? I love this game. It's one of the best 7/10 games i have ever played.
"get out of here stalker" lives rent-free in my heart
AH NU CHEEKI BREEKI IV DAMKE
Good hunting, Stalker.
This game was my first childhood "real" game, still holds a special place in my heart, used to spend the weekend nights playing it with my brother
Hey core, would you be surprised to know that at the same time this video was published, I was hosting a TimeShift multiplayer server and playing with a couple friends? :D We need more, there's a Discord for this game
What an awesome birthday gift! Thank you Mandy!
I believe you are talking about Legendary.
This was one of my favorite game as a teenager, and the timeshift mechanic was unique enough to make it stick out from the other FPS's at the time.
Is it? We were literally playing a multiplayer match when this video came out!
Hell yeah. This game kicked ass. Time shift, army of two, Prey, Dark Sector, BiA Hell's Highway... I loved this era.
Resistance as well.
Army of Two is such a great co-op game. Plus it tricks fps players into learning broad-strokes rpg mechanics.
@NinjapowerMS, Resistance Fall of Man and Killzone 2. Shame Sony killed off both franchises.
Multiplayer was what I remember most about this game, thanks for covering a nostalgic memory! :)
I swear Mandalores videos are basicly all about my old junk box full of games nobody ever heared or played but i loved as a kid.
Looking forward to see videos about : Shattered Union,Crashday,Yager,Hand of God Legend,Kayne and Lynch,Jade Empire or maybe some games like Pariah,Aqua Nox or Sniper path of vengance
and that are only the games still sitting in my officeshelfs.
I owned sins of the solar empire but never learned how to master it
Shattered Union huh, now that's a literal who game.
I loved this game so much as a kid, your video brings back memories. Didnt know anyone still remembers this game.
Oh man when Haze was mentioned I for real thought there was gonna be a “Yea-Yea” right behind it and boy was I pleased to be wrong
I was expecting a faded picture of Haze at 6:00, and was thoroughly disappointed. Excellent review as always, time control/travel games are always a treat to explore
The even more interesting part of the Homefront the revolution Timesplitters 2 remaster thing is that it has native PC controls for the first time ever. Which is just amazing in itself.
Between this and Semi Ramblomatic yesterday, we've shifted into a Timeshift Renaissance
Val Grimm, thank you for those wonderful captions.
Just as I was starting to rewatch a lot of your old videos again, good timing!
I played through this game a million times as a kid thank you for bringing this back to my memory madalore I’m definitely going to play through it again
"Right, comrade?"
Fuck yeah, Singularity is next. Awesome review as always, Mandy, stay save out there.
It could also be red alert
@@fixenfroejte it might be, but "Right, comrade?" is the last thing Devlin says in "good" ending of Singularity, the one where we see that Soviets rule the world and we're part of it.
@Ironmo100 good ending is where you shoot them both. But I really liked that even the bad ending is actually great one.
@@dasmorte that's neutral one, since it doesn't resolve anything, basically. Well, except for death of both of them, so there's that.
But there's no good ending, basically. In all of them you remain of remnant of a destroyed timeline, so there's that.
3:54 "Get out of here, Stalker!" gave me a laugh
TimeShift!!! Fuck yea dude, A certified hood classic for real.
Glad you reviewed this
i remember when i was a kid id see the box for this game and found it mesmerizing. Id hold it and look onto the coverart but i had no idea how the game actually was like till this video
10:31 hahahaha. That movie was not great, but my family still references the "I bring home the MeowMix" line.
I still can't believe that they made a sequel, especially so much later.
What movie? I got to this part and went "wtf is going on?"
@@memph1ston Cats & Dogs (2001)
@@memph1ston Cats & Dogs. It's from 2001, and they made a sequel for some reason, 9 years later.
@@memph1ston over-all it was mediocre at best, and probably has music that kind of fits, but is really generic, like the music he is commenting on when the clip fades in.
I say probably, because the soundtrack isn't one of the things I remember from that movie.
something something Cats Rule
my mate at school was a big fan of cats
I've played this game multiple times when I was younger and never had any idea it took place in what is supposed to be 1939, I suspect the speech and mixed artsyles really confused me with that.
i remember trying to save one of the soldiers from being executed over and over again as a kid in this game
Ooooooh, TimeShift. I played the hell out of this in the 00s, such a criminally underrated game.
Watched the whole thing pal. Great review as always bud 👍
😆😆
😂
i too watched the whole thing
For any future viewers this comment was posted 1 min after video upload. -Captain joke-killer out
he uploaded 2min ago, do you watch at 10x speed?
"When it comes to remakes, this is more the kind of thing I'd wanna see. An amazing idea with flawed execution."
See this is something I fully agree on because while I love the idea of old favorites being remade into modern packages, usually it falls short and winds up being subpar compared to what comes out these days. Conversely, games that never had their chance to shine but brought something fun and unique to the table ought to be given a second chance to impress us and become new favorites.
Ah, if only Turok 3 got a remake, not an unnecessary Nightdive remaster.
You might disagree with this, but as someone who legitimately studied it: hotdogs are considered sandwiches in the culinary world; and the toasted biscuits or crackers with cheese and meat, or other toppings is called a canapé, which, you guessed it: is classified as a sandwich.
canape in essence is a sandwich for ants, makes sense.
@@fus132 Worse still is its other name: "Open-faced sandwich."
Nah, fam, it's a taco.
Hot dogs are hot dogs.
@@ostsan8598 *Raucous applause*
Picked this up used a few days ago for my Xbox after remembering it being a hidden gem as a kid, the timing is amazing. It's definitely not perfect but it's a pretty solid shooter from the time!
God I loved TimeShift, the weapons, the look of the lighting, the little puzzle fights you could optimize, the cool time espionage flashbacks.
All it was missing was SSAM going full Cortana (or GladOS)
Mandalore now that you have shifted time. It is now time to beat the mind game.
when my parents got us a 360 for christmas we had Halo 3, CoD 4, and Timeshift. I was not allowed to play Timeshift because the blood effect that could splatter the camera was deemed to violent by my dad
One word for this game: ATMOSPHERE. This game has managed to be more immersive than most “post apocalyptic” games have in the past and after. This game was the closest to feeling like playing in a more SciFi version of Children of Men
Mandalore continues to confirm my memories of the past as reality and not hallucinations
8:12 "The motorad squadron will cleanse the earth!"
Of all the mid 2000s shooters to come out this was one of them
Mandalore you've shown parts of Resistance Fall of Man a few time. It makes me want a Resistance series review from you more and more from you.
Fantastic video as always my pookiest of pookie bears, my dear Mandalore. I found it a bit odd when you went into that 3 minute rant around the middle about why "Drake's meat aint even allat big to me", but apart from that, marvellous!
This is one of those games I never actually played but still remember fondly because 9 year old me was easily entertained by demos
The studio that made this is still alive and is about to release Warhammer Space Marine 2
Man I LOVED this game. Excited to watch this after work
Ah finally, I´ve been waiting for the two time travelling games 😎
I love the gameplay so much, you really do feel like a superhero.
Oh, and the enemy also has the gun ofc.
my boy almost threw up in his mouth at the thought of haze
Haha, Mandalore is teasing Singularity. :D
Back in the day I was hyped for Timeshift to come out but was disappointed when it finally did.
This needs to be remedied somehow. Best cast scenario might be a remake.
I remember the demo so vividly. Your channel is like a memory unblocker, thanks for that!
This is the first game I played on the 360.
This and Dark Sector DS still holds up kind of I just finished a playthrough.
I could never remember the name of this game I'm definitely going to play it.🙏🏼
Always a good day when Mandalore drops another video
Thanks for reminding me. I've played this more than a decade ago, but I forgot the name.
A long time ago I read about a time-based RTS that came out an even longer time ago. Apparently it is called "Achron". Could be up your alley. It has time travelling units and a moving "time window" in which you can move forward and backward.
Been going through some older FPS' I've never played before, Timeshift seems right up my alley.
I also suggest checking out Darkest of Days. I fondly remember bringing the Future rifle to the Civil War battlefields.
@@Shark93 in single player they do have delay. And i only played dvd version, so i never experienced multiplayer nor i dont realy know how to
Fun fact : when i was like 14 i wanted this game bad.
Such a banger. I remember playing it back in the day, it was a lot of fun back there
Words can not describe how much i love Mandalore and his style. Thank you for another killer review sir. That clip of the dudes talking about the game was most wholesome stuff, nostalgia I didn't even realize I needed. And keep those Marv electrocutions coming :) , my all time favorite.
Time Shift feels like store-brand Singularity. Or, since Singularity released a few years later, someone saw the idea and thought "What if that but good?"
