I had my chance to see Ella. In Cobenhagen long ago (I think in 1970 or so) . But I did not have the money to pay in to her show. I was just a teenager. Her show was in a tent at "Tivoli". So I had to stay outside the tent and just listen. I never saw her . but heard her. I never touched her - but she touched my soul. Ella is the one and only Female Jazz Singer. Maybe we will meet in the next life ELLA.
It's as simple, pure and true as this, the greatest voice of the last century. It was so great, and she was so mercifully productive, it is just a question of time. She was the best.
Ella's voice was like a fine champagne: it had layers...smoothness, fullness, softness, class, purity. Simply perfect. It wasn't just the voice though, it was the diction, the musicality. This is totally extinct now. Long live Ella.
So ashamed. 51 yrs old, only now discovering Ella. Better late than never, right? There are no words! My life just took a turn for the better! Thank you Ella!
I only started listening to jazz 2 or 3 years ago and the first time I heard Ella's voice, I thought, wow, who is this. Her voice is like velvet. She is perfection!!!
Ridiculously sweet. I love Ella. Her music is like "Grandma's cookies in a fireplace-warmed cozy house in the middle of a gentle winter night and the house is scented with a sweet aroma, and I'm in my yellow PJs listening to a story because I'm 6 again" comfortable.
I don't get how anyone could dislike this. If Ella Fitzgerald isn't your thing, then don't look up her videos. I know internet trolls exist, but why Ella Fizgerald? I don't get how 39 people could come to this video and express enough distaste to hit the thumbs down button. This is clearly not a bad performance.
It always burns me up when people credit the artist of the 80's-90's with creating and popularizing melisma. Ella was doing it in the 40's, and without going into the over singing territory that so many of them get into. Ella is and was an innovator. vocal runs of today owes a lot to scatting and swing music.
nobody else comes close to Ella! She was truly the best. She was technically proficient, could sing 3 octaves and best of all, the tone of her voice conveyed the emotions of the song perfectly for all that she sang. ....
Her voice is so soothing. I could wrap myself up in melody like a velvet blanket when she sings. Better than comfort food to a starving belly, and far more fulfilling. The world was blessed with such glorious talent, and I am greatful for it.
I love the subtle modulation up a half tone at the end of the first eight bars. Not many singers have the chops to pull that off. (Not a lot of piano players either.)
And they've all wanted to sound like Ella ever since. Some honorable mentions go out to some of the other ladies of song over the years, but still to this day, Ella Fitzgerald remains at the top and peerless in her craft.
Okay so I'm 15, and I cannot comprehend the beauty of this song. 17 years from now they had these original songs with beautiful instrumental music in the background and flawless voice control and emotions. Hard to find such songs today. I assume those were gqod days
back in 2005, i remember visiting a mall around christmas time to do some holiday shopping for my family. this song was playing and I can remember her beautiful voice touching my heart and my soul. i never forgot that day and whenever i think of christmas now, I think of this and that happy day. at christmas dinner ive always played this song for my family to hear, I want them to feel the way that I did back then. thank you for posting this, having an incredible life. rest in power, rest in love, rest in peace Ella.
I hope I'm alive to meet someone with half the voice and style she had. I've gained a huge respect and admiration for her in the past 3 videos I've watched of her.
I am an Asian and I never touched Jazz or Ella's music before I came to the US. Yet I could find myself in this amazing music no matter you guys believe it or not. Thanks, Ella, you are a true master. Btw, I can always find great Jazz in Fallout games radio and NYC bars.
I am speechless or rather voiceless every time Ella Fitzgerald sings. Her genius is to make us believe that it is simple and easy....We called this talent. Thanks for posting this.
How she shades her voice with subtle tone, the transitions, the timing of lyrics and breath giving dead-on phrasing.. OMG Ella was soooo skilled. But I doubt that the youth of today would understand it. I remember listening to Ella when I was young and it just went over my head, then suddenly there was that lightbulb moment when the penny dropped and I realised what I was actually listening to and it completely changed the way I listen to singers..the song was The Very Thought Of You.
As a teenager, I have to agree... I'm almost 17 and Ella Fitzgerald has been a favourite of mine for as long as I can remember, and the other kids don't share my love of artists/music like this. It's frustrating, especially at parties where they play that LMFAO crap! It's kind of sad how fame comes easily to so many, especially when they don't use real instruments. On that note, I love how Ella Fitzgerald doesn't just have a voice, she uses it as an instrument sometimes! Yeah ok rant over lol.
Ella's truly God's gift to the world. Can you imagine if she chose not to pursue what felt most natural to her? That she did not follow her 'call'? maybe just ending up as another faceless office worker? The world would be a less happy place. It just reminds me that it is the same for us all - we are unique...pursue our 'call' and be a gift to the world! :)
Ella Fitzgerald is one of the few singers that I would call a genius. Normally I only reserve the word 'genius' for musicians, composers and instrumentalists like Mozart, Stevie Wonder, Brian Wilson etc. But when you understand the full depth of Ella's singing talent - Beautiful tone, The diction, phrasing, rhythmic sense, harmonic sensibility, intonation, improvisation - genius is the only word you can use. This woman is ALWAYS in tune when she sings and I mean ALWAYS. She EXISTS IN TUNE.
@Yinepuhotep I didn't like loud noisy concerts either, that my friends back then would drag me to. When I asked my 'friends' if anyone wanted to join me to see Ella perform at the college they all laughed at me. When Ella died, I was very saddened but felt great about my little memory/encounter with her, seated just a few yards away from her. You must appreciate everything you love, in life and share with others for someday it may be gone. Thanks to the many for all the wonderful compliments.
back in the day all the top performers male/female sang alot of the same songs. "Misty" being one of them. Recorded a thousand times. The bar was so high that if your version wasn't thought to be that much better than anothers that you would be taking your career out on a dangerous limb along wth the record company. That's just how it appears to me because Ella takes this song into a special place that is far removed from some of her contemporaries. She always did. Ella is an American treasure.
What a MASTERPIECE! Wish we had more singers like this in the music industry today that knows how to sing and sing live without using autotune or any other kind of cheating tool. This particular Ella Fitzgerald special is one of my favorite television specials that she has done!
I had my chance to see Ella. In Cobenhagen long ago (I think in 1970 or so) . But I did not have the money to pay in to her show.

I never saw her . but heard her.
I never touched her - but she touched my soul.
Ella is the one and only Female Jazz Singer.

A voice tht gives u chills
Digo o mesmo, em outra dimensão nos encontraremos! Que Deus permita!!❤❤❤
Life is beautiful when Ella Fitzgerald is singing.
MrMahlerman love your comment
It's as simple, pure and true as this, the greatest voice of the last century. It was so great, and she was so mercifully productive, it is just a question of time. She was the best.
Sure thing
MrMahlerman ❤️
Amen

This is totally extinct now. Long live Ella.
Absolutamente cierto!!!!
Com'è divina, la sua voce TI AVVOLGE, E TI TRAVOLGE, DIVENTI SCHIAVO DI TANTA BELLEZZA, MAI SAZIO..
Perfect pitch, perfect timing, simply perfect.
You got it right.Simply devine.
I am thoroughly convinced that Ella Fitzgerald is THE most talented vocalist of all time.
How could Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughan have been alive in the same century? God must've double clicked on the mouse button.
I'm 14 and i absolutely adore this song. go Ella!
❤
you've 25 now, wow
I saw Ella Fitzgerald live twice in Manchester, UK in the 1950s. What a privilege.
oh my gosh, the notes she picks are so creative and yet so compatible with the standard itself. This is truly a masterclass of jazz ballad singing :)
The lady just has a fabulous instrument...I get misty just listening to this elegant chant. "Look at meeee" indeed. Thank you a million for this.
Night is a colour, Jazz is the weather.
蓮君 伊藤 Ella is the story teller.
1:06 “You can say that you’re leading me on” followed by that piano tune is just WOW
It's a rare singer that combines passion with the discipline to be so technically proficient in musicality. God, what a voice!
So ashamed. 51 yrs old, only now discovering Ella. Better late than never, right? There are no words! My life just took a turn for the better! Thank you Ella!
Wow. This woman could really teach our so called "stars" of today a thing or two
This is my most favorite song in the whole wide world. I still cry when I hear it... unfounded beauty. Have you ever felt this kind of LOVE.
The most perfect vocalist in history... Prove me wrong!
I only started listening to jazz 2 or 3 years ago and the first time I heard Ella's voice, I thought, wow, who is this. Her voice is like velvet. She is perfection!!!
She had something special. You just don't see, or hear for that matter, singers like this anymore. God given talent!
My absolutly favourite jazz voice...
Hello 👋 Lys
How are you doing today
those notes are brutal. as a singer for over 8 years, i can never do those
her voice is unreal
What notes?
Chita Andhita pretty sure he’s referring to the ‘but it’s just’ notes
She often starts on the 'ends'
No one will EVER sound as smooth, as full, as clear with such range as the INCOMPARABLE ELLA FITZGERALD. She was the very best ever
Incredible. Ella is probably the best female singer in the past 100 years
Absolutely godlike ❤️🔥
I don't get how anyone could dislike this. If Ella Fitzgerald isn't your thing, then don't look up her videos. I know internet trolls exist, but why Ella Fizgerald? My Dad saw her sing in London. I grew up hearing Ella - one of the best gifts he gave me before he died
One of the worlds most talented jazz singer ever....winning 13 Grammy's....nobody never has ....we miss you Ella Fitzgerald .....
Umm wrong, Alison Krauss has won 27.
But they're probably 2 of the 5 greatest female voices ever.
When Ella passed on in 1996 some Jazz radio stations played her songs for more than 24 hours with no other singers in the mix.
Beyoncé has won 28
No one like Lady Ella... What a wonderful treat!!!!
Who listened to this ....and the pure beauty of the voice...and disliked it. who...?
It always burns me up when people credit the artist of the 80's-90's with creating and popularizing melisma. Ella was doing it in the 40's, and without going into the over singing territory that so many of them get into. Ella is and was an innovator. vocal runs of today owes a lot to scatting and swing music.
Simply beautiful. Such a pity that music is so commercialised these days; so few young people are exposed to REAL music.
I'm 16 but I really in love with this. Just listened to it all day all night and wondering how wonderful if I were born in that era!
nobody else comes close to Ella! She was truly the best. She was technically proficient, could sing 3 octaves and best of all, the tone of her voice conveyed the emotions of the song perfectly for all that she sang. ....

I cried when she died...she had a way with her that went beyond...every song is a piece of her soul.
I feel pretty much like a kitten up a tree whenever I hear Ella sing, feeling misty...Love you Ella forever!
Hello 👋 julie
How are you doing today
Her voice is a voice of mother, the voice of the lover, the voice of the child and a voice of the wives.
It is all voices.
I love it.
She will always be the Ultima divine Romantic aritiste of our time. thank you so much for sharing!!!
And they've all wanted to sound like Ella ever since. Some honorable mentions go out to some of the other ladies of song over the years, but still to this day, Ella Fitzgerald remains at the top and peerless in her craft.
The greatest singer of all time- Miss Ella Fitzgerald!!!
if only the very beginning hadn't been cut off... this is perfection.
Almost 60 years later and her voice still resonates with us all
I think Ella was a true gift from God - a true God given talent. What an incredible voice! Amazing.
looove Ella's note at the very end around 2:31 - divine singing that suits this snowy day so well. thank you Ella for being timeless!
the note for her " toooooooo" ?
Okay so I'm 15, and I cannot comprehend the beauty of this song. 17 years from now they had these original songs with beautiful instrumental music in the background and flawless voice control and emotions. Hard to find such songs today.
I assume those were gqod days
Such a beautiful song sung by a beautiful singer.
If ever there was an angel sent down to earth to heal us through sound, her name would be Ella Fitzgerald.
I'm in awe... Completely flawless.
This song makes me feel my beauty of soul is waking up...
back in 2005, i remember visiting a mall around christmas time to do some holiday shopping for my family. this song was playing and I can remember her beautiful voice touching my heart and my soul. i never forgot that day and whenever i think of christmas now, I think of this and that happy day. at christmas dinner ive always played this song for my family to hear, I want them to feel the way that I did back then. thank you for posting this, having an incredible life. rest in power, rest in love, rest in peace Ella.
What an instrument her voice is!
she is the most refined singer of them all, absolutely perfect !
The lady, the queen and the soul of Jazz. Ella Fitzgerald...I love her.
Saw this fabulous singer live in Manchester, UK: twice. Lucky or what?
I hope I'm alive to meet someone with half the voice and style she had. I've gained a huge respect and admiration for her in the past 3 videos I've watched of her.
grateful to have the priviledge to hear her voice, even through just a video
I am an Asian and I never touched Jazz or Ella's music before I came to the US. Yet I could find myself in this amazing music no matter you guys believe it or not. Thanks, Ella, you are a true master. Btw, I can always find great Jazz in Fallout games radio and NYC bars.
I am speechless or rather voiceless every time Ella Fitzgerald sings. Her genius is to make us believe that it is simple and easy....We called this talent. Thanks for posting this.
Wow. That's the definitive version of that song for me.
beautiful...no words...

I get misty when I think of Ella! Utterly delicious - thankyou!
I wish I'd seen her when she toured UK in the late 80s. Such an extraordinary talent.

I can never watch this video enough...Ella's voice is hypnotizing.
A voice as an instrument, thank you Ella for giving singers the chance to be more than just vocalists.
Like a lot of people, I believe she's the greatest female singer who ever recorded.
Hello 👋 Lisa
How are you doing
My goodness. So incredible.
Ella didn't need autotune. Certainly on the short list for the greatest ever.
Who can sing better than Ella ? It's perfection and even more...
she did well but Sarah Vaughn put her stamp on this song.
she is very well known as "the best singer of America" too bad she never realized about it...she was and is and ever will..the best..!!!!
Flawless, as always

What a sweet angel of real, soulful, meaningful music.
Ella's truly God's gift to the world.

It is a very nice moment ro spend when Ella sings that song; Her sweet voice carry me to the summit of pleasure .She is a star who should never die
ive never really paid attention to her singing but wow!! no wonder she was so famous!!! this is beautiful!!!
One of the greatest voices ever, if not the best.
Her voice is magical
OMG! The purest singing tone I've ever heard ...amazing!
Every valentines, I come back to ella ❤️
Perfection! Happy to see that so many still know who she is and still love her voice!

Ella is an American treasure.
It's been raining here for 2 weeks. This song has been in my head the whole time.

So Beautiful Voice
Ella Fitzgerald was an awesome singer. She had a wonderful voice. =')
"Greatest of all time" is the only comment that comes to mind.
Ella Fitzgerald Misty and Sarah Vaughn's Misty are neck and neck. They're both winners.
How can someone’s voice be so perfect
Thanks for this marvelous music... My friends called me old because i love them but they dont appreciate the magnificence of their voices ...
Cuànta perfección en un artista!!!
Me erizo todo y me caen lagrimones.
Solo los Grandes saben producír esta emocion.
So close to perfection So lost in dream.
