I was a sound man at BBC Television Centre during the 1960s and worked on this show, rigging the band and vocal mikes for Len Shorey. I'm now 83 and the shock of recognition and recall almost 60 years on gets to me more than I can say. My heartfelt thanks for this posting.
How wonderful....it would be lovely to hear your memories of this time James. What a fabulous time to be doing that. I have always said I wish I had been able to see the greats of this time and Ella at the top of the list.
Dear Mr. Christophers We have lived during the best of music times thanks to wonderful singers like Miss Ella. I don't fear death as much as I used to because to live in a world where "rap" music is thought of as wonderful, makes me want to throw up.
The most Beautiful voice ever. There were other great ones from her era, but she is unrivaled, unmatched. Thank God for giving her the voice that she had. I get chills and years of joy listening to her.
No one ever came close on the scat territory. Inspiring, musical, natural wise, innovative.... even the sax legattos she mimics, oh boy. My favorite singer that will never ever be switched up. She enters the stage dancing so sweet and gracefully shaking her head ... man a delight.
I was lucky enough to see Ella. I wish I had seen Sarah in person; Ella came with the Lou Levy trio here in Boston, I wish I could have seen her more often, but I was in school and was short of money back then. I have also seen Mel Torme and Cleo Laine.

Ella Fitzgerald is considered the best singer in the world by music experts, in several aspects: diction, tuning, intonation, etc. Ella Fitzgerald is the only singer I listen to every day outside of Brazil's Singers and Singers, of course. I'm Brazilian and I live in Brazil and here we have countless wonderful Singers and Composers too. Samba and Bossa Nova are the main Brazilian musical genres known worldwide.

As a brazilian (and carioca) I usually find English versions of The Girl from Ipanema kinda goofy, they don't tend to get the spirit very well (it's more of a feel than a judgement, hard to explain). But Ella nails it, as expected! Gotta love this true queen 💙
There are artists that represent the ultimate pinnacle of their art, they rise, shine and are never reached again. Ella is one of them. I've heard so many of "her" songs sung by others but nobody reached her understanding and presentation of that songs.
She was spot on in this performance [it was her night]. The voice had that crystal rock sound. She was very light on her feet and reminded me of the child like quality she has that makes her a true jewel. I don't know her background but she has that smoky Moroccan -Tunision quality to her voice also. Truly enjoyed this performance.
