In 1963, I thought Mary was the most beautiful woman in the world. I was 10 yrs old then. Now in 2024, I still think the same.
In 2024, suddenly I feel so old, but so happy I experienced all the '60s and '70s music.
no foul language no special effects just pure harmony and talent
I was 23 years old, when the world was new and Mary and my beliefs were beautiful.
Reminds me of my youth when I was so hopeful for the future.

Taught my two surfin' buds how to sing a song in 3 part harmony. We'd walk around the neighborhood on weekend nights singing PP&M songs. None of us could do the baritone "... don't think twice it's-all-right" at the end. We'd try and it would crack us up. One night an older couple were out in their back yard and the guy finished the words, so we sang it again and he did those words each time the refrain came around. They were pretty cool. This was Miami Beach and they were retired from somplace in NEngland.
Yes everyone knows Peter, Paul and Mary but nobody ever mentions Richard 'Dick' Kniss who played stand-up bass for the trio for 50 years.
Kniss died on January 25, 2012 at the age of 74.
Thankyou also to Bob Dylin who wrote so many great songs that other folk artists made famous. Dylan was to folk music what Willy Nelson was to Country Music. Artists in their own right, but mentor to others.
He also wrote Don't Think Twice, sung here.

I saw them in London and thought how good they were. I still think the same now
Around 1988 we saw PP&M at the Warwick Music Theater in Rhode Island. They had an older man backing them on mandolin and banjo which added a huge complement to the music. Dick Kniss was on bass of course. Mary’s voice was amazing and so powerful!
Listening to Mary absolutely master Go Tell it On the Mountain, I am crying my eyes out. This is so beautiful.
The songs, the messages are great, and they are impeccable musicians. It is stunning.

Peter, Paul and Mary had a certain electrical charisma that was largely due to their originality and each of their individual unique qualities that created a wonderful synergy.

They popped up at my elementary school and played just them and the bass player . I was 8 but blown away that they were there, Puff was my favorite song on the radio at the time.
Ages ago but I'll never forget 'em. My first live show, I was hooked.
Became a picker myself.
Ah, Puff. My favorite at that age too. Still angry with my sister for stepping on my 45 and cracking it.

All these songs off In the Wind album . I was 12 and the first record ever bought for me (I have an older brother who was into Dylan and PP&M). I saw them in Manchester a few years later. They were brilliant live.
When people think the amplification systems of the 60's were inadequate I always think these performances put the lie to that. Many bands I heard had a good balance and that was all over the world.
@@pandaman1968 When I saw the Yardbirds, (who were the forerunners of Led Zeppelin) in Singapore in 1966 I heard every note and vocal despite the noisy fans. (Lol).

Aujourd'hui, avec des artifices électroniques, on pervertit le son pour lui donner une couleur « drabe » à la monde. Nous écoutons avec nostalgie cette qualité sonore qui ne reviendra jamais.

YOU shoud be suprised with Big Mistake. At the counter 10:14 when Peter on capo 5 played C, G, Am and F, he mistakenly went to G7 instead of C!
Paul didn't express any sign of acuse to Peter for his mistake. Peter did watch Paul with eye sign of regret 😢 right before Paul starting the song.

The girls are the Velvettes, with the Cyrill Davies R&B band. Long John was also part of the group. That's them on stage. It's sad what happened to Hullabaloo. They were sent to Hollywood, put on a TV network in color, and transformed into a Vegas style show with go-go dancers. Not surprisingly, that killed what started out as a great little British folk and blues program.

Dick Kniss a refugee from the jazz world I believe but always enjoyed these gigs according to his wife. I feel he was the best musician here.
In this posting, D'ont Think Twice It's All Right, when Paul sings "look at your window and I'll be gone" his face becomes up scale, and every one can notice rylics are not "look out", but "look at".
Many song books write as look out.
Look out makes sense. Look at does not.

En France personne ne le connaît et ni sa musique et moi j'éprouve de grandes difficultés à trouver un CD de lui. Je connais son nom et son existence depuis 59 ans sans l'avoir jamais vu. Il est cité comme pionnier du "blue-eyed Blues", comme le groupe Alexis Korner où jouaient Ginger Baker et Jack Bruce, bien avant John Mayall the Godfather de ce style. Mais à partir de 1975, il n'a fait que de la merde. Par contre je connais bien Cyril Davies and his All Stars mais pas celui du début quand Long John Baldry jouait avec eux.

Why did Mary never have her own mic?
They knew the strengths of their voices and the volumes of the guitars. With the 2 mics, they could mix as they wanted. Notice they switch places with different songs, and the positions of the guitars. That enabled them to produce the sound they wanted without a lot of mixing equipment.
It's called: talent.
female voices are allways louder than male voices - its depending of the frequency - so she dont need it!
You seem to be assuming each of the two mikes is for one of the men. In fact, this is simply a stereo set-up, set to capture the blend of all three voices.

It's funny noticing that even these excellent guitar players sometimes make mistakes: al 9.56 there is a small mistake in the guitar flow; I don't know who is the one responsible. For me, no folk group can create a better sound and harmonies. But it`s good to know that they are human...
I hear what sound like a worse one at 10:13. Peter stays on the correct chord but Paul goes early to the A maj formation barred chord. Interesting that none of them blinks. They keep playing as if nothing happened which is admirable. Rare for any muso to play a whole concert without a mistake. I heard PPM 3 times in the 70's. Great live performers.

Not necessarily. There are three people, but they may just be entranced by the music.

Beautiful to hear. Them again. I was a young man in 63 starting in troubled times in are country but some how they made it go away with. There music. Good to hear them again !!
They don’t make songs like this anymore.Instead we have to listen hideous gangster rap which is anthema to the senses.
You don't have to listen to it. Anyway "Gansta Rap" was a 1990's phenomenon & was the true folk music of the time. Why do old people criticise what they don't understand, to paraphrase uncle Bob Dylan. .
@@zivkovicable I don’t recall any folk singers making music about rape and generally abusing women! FYI , I have eclectic tastes and do not see myself as a boomer. Early Will Smith stuff was okay. But I refuse to listen to some of the the violent lyric spewed.
@@rohansrider Scots & Irish ballads often feature blood, guts, slaughter, betrayal, and yes the abuse, rape & murder of women..Not all folk music contains those themes, just like not all hip hop lyrics contain violent misogyny. But of course it's obvious that you don't listen to either folk music or hip-hop in any depth.

for Blowing in the Wind - Pete Seeger originally..I came upon it by Bob Dylan, eventually it became 'everyones' like most of the folk classics.
Don't think Twice is another song that became "everyones" but started as a Dylan song, but AFAIK he just penned the words -- the fingerpicking pattern was floating around since at least the WWII boys came home
