    Right there with you on coping with withdrawal ❤
    It’s cool that our 2 protagonists are in the middle of a love triangle of their own. Vi with Cait and Jinx with Silco.
    The elephant in the room is mental illness. Vi has tons of trauma and, to a much lesser extent, Cait may have some too, but Silco and Jinx both have woefully untreated BPD, *plus* those piles of trauma on top. Powder was younger than Vi when they lost their parents. Vi got to hit some developmental milestones before The Worst happened. And sometimes it’s just luck about the brain you’re born with, but bottom line is Powder is legit crazy and Vi is not.
    Powder’s meltdown when Vi leaves her behind (before the mission) is a textbook BPD reaction to “abandonment”, not just youthfulness. When she jumps into Silco’s arms later it’s “she left me. she is not my sister anymore”. Black and white.
    Silco says black and white things too: “everyone always betrays us”. Bro, you just made a speech about loyalty when Sevika was having your back earlier. Vander also mentions “you had my respect”, but people with Powder and Silco’s mental illness often struggle to see love or feel safe. I do think Silco manipulates Jinx’s insecurities but i also think he often believes the dark things he says about Powder being betrayed and abandoned because he projects his own experience / distorted worldview onto her.
    Back to Cait-Vi-Powder. Vi always chooses Powder. Powder is never able to internalize it. When Vi is leaving her behind because “you’re all i have left”, when Vi is back and holding her (“are you real?”), when Vi says “im here for you. Only you.”, when she says “nothing will ever change that” (re: are we still sisters?)”, when she sees Vi part ways with Cait on the bridge, when Vi chooses her again by saying “we’ll go away together”. Vi doesn’t even reject Jinx! That’s a misconception. When Powder says “I’ve changed”, Vi says “it’s okay; you did what you had to do to survive; so did I”. But Powder really struggles to retain these things when she’s splitting into black and white thinking. It can be thankless at times to try to reassure someone who is disorderedly insecure. 100 devoted acts disappear behind 1 hesitation.
    A detail I enjoyed is the way the sisters know each other. When Powder does crazy things like talk to people who aren’t there, Cait is thrown off by it but Vi is not. Both Vi and Silco occasionally just kind of move past some of Powder’s most erratic actions. Do we think Powder’s meltdown before the Vander rescue mission is the first time that happened? Nah. Powder has probably always been nuts about Vi and Vi is familiar with her reactions and tiptoes around them. Anyone who’s loved someone with BPD knows how fragile they can be and how strongly they react to the slightest threat. So Powder being nuts is not news to Vi. The one time she’s taken aback is when she sees her now grown and empowered sister gunning people down. Indeed, BPD comes to full bloom in the 20s. Powder is now gone from sensitive and stormy to scary dangerous, especially when coupled with her penchant for explosives and poisonous new parent.
    Vi is not ill like that. When she went home with Cait it’s because Powder had literally just shot at her. Best let someone cool off when they’re in THAT kind of mood, before trying to make up again. When Vi is asked to murder an innocent bystander to prove her devotion to Powder, she doesn’t even hesitate. Sure, Vi loves Cait by then but that’s not even the issue. She’s not going to murder someone in cold blood because her crazy sister is having one of her meltdowns. She remains focused on trying to calm her sister down.
    In the end, Jinx says i thought you could still love me… you’ve changed too”. Sigh. Disordered thinking continues. Romanticizing how much Vi always loved her before (even though they probably had plenty of fights as kids) and concluding she doesn’t love her now (despite mountains of evidence to the contrary). Powder just feels bad and that’s how she things when she’s in pain, no matter what anyone says.
    The irony is that Vi has, in fact, been slowly changing sides. Nothing to do with Powder vs Cait. More about Top vs Under, anti-enforcer vs pro-enforcer. Vi is perfectly able to love her sister while growing into a more nuanced view of who the heroes and villains are in her political landscape. But for someone like Powder, Vi shifting at all is too threatening to contemplate.
    All this to say, Vi never had to make a choice. She was always all about Powder but Powder was straight up triggered by Cait’s very existence and she exploded all by herself. Vi had zero agency in her own “love triangle.”

      Amazing points you make! I really like your analysis of Jinx's mental state, it makes total sense to me. Mental illness makes it hard for Jinx to see anyone’s perspective but her own. What doesn’t fit, she ignores… And I see your point about Vi not really having any agency with Jinx, but my point is that she has to! She can’t let Jinx make all the choices for her anymore…

      While I respect your point of view I think you're using quite a bit of selective reasoning in how you're describing Jinxes (and Silcos, for that matter) mentality and perspective. Their attitude towards love and loyalty is informed by a lot more than a selfish need for validation and exclusive affection, but on stringent expectations for the nature and identity of people they commit to and would do anything for. They base their identities around those that care for them and in turn, expect them to act in a certain way back to them. For Silco, he expected Vander to remain dedicated to Zaun's liberation no matter his reservations or emotional hangups, what he got was a literal knife in the back - he doesnt "feel safe" around his Brother because said Brother literally and figuratively proved himself to be a different man than Silco thought he was.
      Granted, his betrayal happens decades before Vanders will to fight is broken on the bridge, but the two events are still connected in Silcos mind so I feel they should be described as such since we dont know what Vanders motivations were.
      The exact same is true of Jinx, she doesnt feel betrayed simply because Vi doesnt give her enough attention or affection, but because the split in her affection is directly at odds with her being the person Jinx needs her to be in order to have her loyalty. Vi has developed an image of "Powder" so distinct from her authentic reality it may as well be equivalent to the "Jinx" persona shes carefully crafted with Silco in order to live up to his expectations and needs. Jinx (the person, not the idea) processes this symbolic crossroads for both of them by deciding that if Vi wants to her to act like she did when she was a kid, then Vi needs to act like the big sister she remembers, and Jinx is fully convinced - for good reason - that that Vi wouldnt have been caught dead holding onto an enforcer and council members daughter whom she seems to have a suspiciously similar protective/guidance based dynamic with to that she had with Powder.
      Yes, Jinx's reaction to Caitlyns presence is primarily personal, but she would not have reacted with a feeling of betrayal and the idea that Vi couldnt be trusted if it was anyone else with her that night. Caitlyn is not simply an innocent bystander, but a member of the same military who Vi and Jinx's Mother died trying to save them from the subjugation of, shes in the undercity searching for the progress day bomber and to retrieve the gemstone, shes the daughter of one of the most powerful women in Piltover and a symbol of everything the sisters grew up feeling lesser than. As long as Jinx intends to stay in Zaun, her home, she cant exist in Vis world so long as Caitlyn does. That there seems to be a dilemma between the two in Vi's mind from JInx's perspective, isnt the problem in of itself, but a symptom of the problem - that Jinx feels Vi has changed yet feels that how her sister has changed is wrong and must be corrected. Which, well, she has and she does, so its not very illogical thinking on Jinxs part as far as im concerned.
      This is best evidenced in the quote you've significantly changed, Jinx doesnt say to Vi "I thought you could still love me", she says "I thought you could love me like you used to" which has a world of difference in it. Jinx knows Vi loves her (and loves her in return mind), she wouldnt have bothered asking her to choose between her and someone she functionally cannot have in her life at the same time if she didnt, she wouldve cut her ties and left without a further action. Its that Jinx thinks, or rather knows, that Vi loves an image, an idea, a ghost of what her sister is supposed to be rather than the full person and is doing so without becoming the equivalent image of herself in her own right. This is why Silcos last words to her are so affecting, they're an expression of totally unconditional love from someone who to that point had conditioned his approval and affection solely on her fulfillment of an inauthentic sense of self. This is something that Vi is unable to do because of how her guilt made her cling to an idea of Powder divorced from the continuing development of her sister to the point in which she views her adult self as a prison like shell in which her true sister is trapped within, an idea Jinxes people pleaser attitude to identity and past experiences with the topic - silco directing her to kill her past self to escape its emotional baggage and forge a stronger future self - enable Vi to believe.
      So no I'm sorry but Vi absolutly made multiple and dramatic, albeit mostly unconscious, decisions regarding her relationship with Powder, Caitlyn and had her soul and character - as well as others view of it - changed in return. Dedicating herself to "Powder" is not as clear cut as it sounds when said dedication is so undercut by attitude and context in the perspective of the person whose loyalty she is trying to win. Even when its not Vis fault that she feels this way, she does in fact decide her course of action based upon the same.

    jinx so badly misunderstands the notion of romantic love that i sometimes wonder if she thinks babies are delivered by storks. if i could say one thing to her i'd just want to say 'cailtyn isn't a replacement sister for her, she's a backup sister for you, and i guarantee SHE won't punch you'
    Edit: 11:54 is so funny. No matter what Jinx does, the universe pulls an uno reverse on her. She tried to save Vander and Vi and Mylo and Claggor, and screwed up and killed them. She blew up the council just as they were voting to give Zaun freedom. And she tried to screw up a romantic relationship Vi had already screwed up, and wound up getting Vi and Cait BACK TOGETHER. If I were her I'd just throw in the towel lol

      I was thinking the first bit as well, in real terms Cait would be a perfect fit for Jinx as an elder sister figure. She shares a lot more of Jinx's interests and could put her in touch with other tinkerers like Jayce, Viktor or Heimerdinger even. She is also a calmer person than Vi, though Vi has gotten better with age. Vi relating to Jinx because of their shared background, while Cait could relate more to her interests.
      Together they could give Jinx a home where she could put herself back together, be there to hold her when her inner demons threaten to overwhelm her.

      Nah, she knows the concept of making babies since one time she says "sisters, rigt? Can't live with them, can't stuff 'em back in the old babymaker." Also, she is borderline which means she will clutch onto whoever is her favorite person, in this case Vi, and do everything to avoid abandonement. It includes driving other people away and being jealous of other people in her fav person's life. The avoiding abandonement sometimes can include going violent against others or harming self as well. So, no, Jinx pretty much understands everything. She is just suffering from a bad childhood, bad bringing up, and other mental illnesses and conditions such as psychosis along with borderline which is a personality disorder and not a treatable condition like mood disorders.

    to build off 28:50 (why didn't Vi tell Jinx she loved her) , Vi can't say she loves her because she DOESN'T love her. The line from the song, "Why can't you love who I am?" gives us the clue here, speifically loving 'who jinx is' rather than loving 'jinx'. As both Caitlyn and Vander point out, Vi has "a good heart" -- she just isn't capable of loving someone who could launch a rocket into a city, who values revenge and chaos, someone who is posessive, jealous, violent, out of control, and amoral. Where Silco values Jinx's worst traits and encourages them ("Everyone betrays us" --> distrustful and posessive, "you're perfect" --> being traumatized and violent is a good thing, etc) , Vi is scared and even a little disgusted by Jinx in the tea party scene (how she flinches when Jinx reveals the cupcake etc). Vi is trying SO HARD to keep loving Jinx, because Vi values family and loyalty. She wants to love her! She desperatly wants a bit of Powder to be left because it'll be so much easier to love her sister then. But JInx figures out what Vi can't admit to herself: this isn't a person Vi can love.
    Meanwhile Caitlyn's over there being every quality "a good heart" would value (patient, thoughtful, empathetic, reasonable, moral, brave, dutiful, heroic, able and willing to make sacrifices when needed), lookin like she do, CARESSING VI'S CHEEK IN BED and even tho the choice in VI's heart bewteen enforcer and sister should be obvious, Caitlyn's got everything Vi thinks is worth loving -- and Jinx has basically none.
    TLDR: season 1 is a breakup story where Vi wants to tell Jinx "its not you it's me" but in actuality it's totally, completely, 100% "it's not me it's you"

    I personally love the contrast in the way they shoot and how it reflects their personality and interactions with other characters.
    For Jinx, the way she simply pulls out the most deadly weapon in her arsenal and just pulls the trigger (whether it be for a gun or bomb), not caring much of the consequences is very telling when we see how she handles other situations. She doesn't need to know who shes shooting or necessarily why (seeing in the times she has or has nearly caused friendly fire). Overall its a mere reflection of her cautionless and reckless nature and her black and white view of the world.
    In contrast with Cait, who seems to be prepared and eagle eyed with as little risk as possible placed upon herself and her allies. Altough this is an obviously showing of her cautious nature, her being a a sharp shooter makes her able to see small details that may be invisible, difficult to see or even insignificant to others which is not only peads to her skill in detective work but also in how she handles others within a personal connection as seen when she is quite easily and quickly able to push past the walls Vi set up.
    I love this type of writing where one thing seems to always be tied to another. It's true to life (I can definitely relate to this based off of my own experiences).
    I don't know it this is just a mess or i somehow missed something in the video, i sure hope it isnt but who knows.

    I think that the way Jinx feels about Caitlyn replacing her as potentially highlighting that developmentally she is still quite young and it shows that she is unable to conceptualize the way that someone may begin to spend more time with romantic partners than with family members. This can be a really difficult thing for younger siblings to understand as their older siblings start to date or even just have friends and seeing that as "replacement". And I think the age difference between Jinx and Caitlyn along with different backgrounds in trauma lead to the ways that they are different.

    I just disagree with one thing.
    3:55 Caitlyn doesn't ruin the reunion, it's Jinx who immediately pulls a gun out before a single word is spoken (Vi bringing the enforcer who wants to arrest her sister isn't the brightest idea too). It's a constant in the series : Jinx ... jinxes everything. The heist, Vander's escape, the smuggling operation, her terrorist attack, the theft of the Hextech gemstone, her reunion with Vi, the bridge scene and the last supper. Every time, she's the reason it goes wrong. She's constantly ruining her own life because of her paranoia and lack of trust. I empathise with her trauma and I like her but she's reason she becomes Jinx.
    I hope you have other videos in stock : my Arcane withdrawal isn't finished yet and I'm struggling ^^.

      Thanks! Yes, Jinx does have that name for a reason, and she seems to both embrace it and struggle with it. But as you say "Vi bringing the enforcer who wants to arrest her sister isn't the brightest idea too": simply by being present Caitlyn ruins the reunion. Does she do it on purpose? No, her intention isn't to ruin anything, but her presence upsets Jinx anyway. Caitlyn is wary of Jinx (and with rights) and she shows it. Not exactly friendly...
      And the same goes for Jinx, she distrusts enforcers and so she deliberately tries to ruin what Caitlyn and Vi have got going. But Jinx also has the best intentions sometimes, e.g. when she sets off the monkey bomb in episode 3, ruining the escape that Vi and the gang had just achieved.
      But yes, if Jinx was nicer and less "jinxy" the reunion could have gone better with or without Caitlyn present! :-)

The only one that tells Powder she is capable is and supported her as a child was Vi, while the entire group of siblings constantly dismissed her, and she is traumatized because she lost all her parents at a young age. Interestingly, Vi is closer to Vander than Jynx, so Vi feels like Vander is like a close father, but Jynx only had Vi at that age, and Vi even though she tried to support her as best as she could was still a child not able to heal the profound wounds she had, because she also was not healed. Vi took her out to do stuff at a very young age when she wasn´t ready, she told her you are ready and when Vander was in danger she was not ready... and that mistake is why Vi feels guilty about it, because she rejected her and blamed her without accepting her own responsibility into what happened, Jynx went alone to try to save them to prove herself to Vi desperately to feel worthy again. However, it is not entirely Vi´s fault either, because she wasn´t mature enough to handle Powder in a healthier way, and the way of living they had demanded that they learned to survive in that hostile environment and rebel to opression, so she thought that encouraging Powder at a young age was of their best interest. Later, those wounds grow more beause of the trauma of having caused the death of her siblings and Silco didn´t help her to heal either. So, indirectly, the creation of Jynx is a consequence of the opression of the people of Zawn. Is more a result of the social context than the fault of two girls.

    I've never really thought about it, but Caitlyn gets "left behind" by Vi at least as many times as Jinx does. In episode 5 when she goes after Sevika alone, in episode 7 when the Firelights take her away, in episode 7 again when she goes back for Jinx, and in episode 8 after the meeting with the council. And every time Caitlyn reacts the complete opposite to Jinx. She shows up to save Vi after the first one (with no collateral damage) and then quickly and vocally forgives her for leaving, tries to take responsibility and give herself up to protect Vi after the second, and for the last two she is understanding and doesn't try to stop Vi from going no matter how much she wants her to stay

    • @tildaowen
      @tildaowen  2 месяца назад +3

      Excellent point, I hadn’t looked at it like that! The difference is that Caitlyn doesn’t feel the rejection as harshly (at least in the beginning) as Jinx who feels betrayed. On the other hand the fact that Caitlyn returns and forgives is rather brave considering the fact that Vi is a basically a stranger to her (at least in the beginning) 😍

    • @aranthur
      @aranthur 2 месяца назад +3

      @@tildaowen Yeah, I had never considered it before, but I think it's another subtle parallel/contrast the writers very deliberately included. Cait reacts the way Vi probably wishes Jinx would, not seeing her mistakes as a betrayal but understanding/forgiving her/taking some of the responsibility off her shoulders/showing care about Vi's well-being (something we don't really see much from Jinx? Even after Vi gets knocked out and kidnapped, Jinx's biggest concern is whose fault it is, not whether Vi is okay)
      But the difference in their reactions, at least in part, is likely a reflection of their upbringing. Jinx had a childhood full of family and friends who she lost horrifically, while Cait had a more lonely childhood with no real friends and a pretty strained relationship with her parents, so she's never really had anyone and then lost them... at least until now. It'll be interesting to see how things might change in season 2
      (Edit to add this thought: I will refrain lol but there's probably a whole essay that I could write about the cognitive dissonance/disillusionment Vi must go through, from episode 1 where she sees the enforcers as these terrifying, merciless monsters and her sister as this pure, kind soul she needs to protect... up until the final episode where her sister is now the terrifying, merciless monster and the pure, kind soul Vi needs to protect from her is an enforcer)

    • @tildaowen
      @tildaowen  2 месяца назад +1

      @aranthur Yeah, I agree, Caitlyn and Jinx’s nature is quite different, but it’s their upbringing that really sets them apart. Vi and Jinx have both been severely traumatised, but while Vi has been isolated in prison longing for connection, Jinx has had a connection to a master manipulator and megalomaniac, who has groomed her into a twisted version of Powder. The mental illness has always been there in Jinx, but Silco made it much worse… Sad!

    One of the things that's stuck in my head is the coldly murderous antipathy on Jinx's face in the tiny cut in the Enemy video when Powder does the finger gun at the backs of the enforcers. I feel that her level of hatred of _all_ enforcers is literally black/white 100% as intense as if any given enforcer was personally the one who killed their parents.
    I'm 100% sure "Liar" on the bridge is toward Vi. I read it as borderline black/white thinking. She just can't see shades of meaning in between.

    Yes, the new video is here! Great analysis, as usual. To think they packed this much drama in one love triangle in, what, five episodes? And they're just getting started.
    I'm interested in seeing Caitlyn's character arc in season 2. So far she has been one of the most clearheaded of characters, but I suspect she will lose some of that stability. This may be projection, but I imagine she will retreat inward. She may stop talking to Vi just to focus on dealing with the aftermath. Whether it's caring for her grieving father or mitigating the damage to Piltover, she will make herself busy. But I don't see her talking to anyone about her own grief, her struggles, or her overwhelming guilt. How do you explain why you didn't take out the sociopath who blew up the city council + your own mother when you had the chance? The only person who could possibly understand is Vi, but Vi could easily become a subconscious scapegoat for Caitlyn's anger at Jinx, and Vi probably wouldn't even blame her. I see a lot of muddied emotions in Caitlyn's future. It will be fascinating (and devastating) to see how she deals with them.
    Also, I demand a show down between Jinx and Caitlyn. I want to see their fighting and thinking styles on full display in 1v1 combat.

How do you explain why you didn't take out the sociopath who blew up the city council + your own mother when you had the chance? I see a lot of muddied emotions in Caitlyn's future. It will be fascinating (and devastating) to see how she deals with them." Caitlyn will be SO emotionally muddled in season 2! So much guilt, regret and anger in her! As I've mentioned in my characterisation of her, she has trouble speaking about her own emotions, but I think she has to have a verbal showdown with Vi. Both about their budding feelings for each other, but also Jinx and her bombing of the council (yes, there will be blame of some kind). I think it'll be SO romantic and SO devastating...
      Caitlyn will definitely also want a showdown with Jinx, but I'm not sure Vi will let it happen... But it could be so much fun to see!!!

    I realized the other day, while watching yet another Arcane reaction video 😃, that every time Jinx/Powder tried to save Vi's life, it cost Jinx/Powder other loved ones in her life.
    Also, in this video, when Jinx has a gun to Caitlyn's head, Vi says that they can go away together. Jinx's reaction is of shock, that she hadn't even considered that possibility. I think it speaks volumes as to Jinx's mental instability.

    I just finished the first season of Arcane the other day, and I cannot recount a single piece of fictional media that has ever had such an immediate and emotional impact on me. It's simply one of the best things I've ever had the good fortune to see, and it's a shame I waited so long to see it.
    Needless to say, withdrawal hit me mere minutes after episode 9 concluded, and with season two temporally distant I've been fulfilling that desire by watching analytical videos breaking down the inner workings of the series. I know many have said it, and I too am glad to have stumbled across your channel, not only due to the depth of your analyses, but because of your specific focus on what I found to be one of the most compelling developments of the series: The relationship between Vi and Caitlyn.
    I've never considered myself one to cheer for fictional romantic relationships, but there is something so incredibly endearing about those two that that consideration of myself inverted overnight; it's an appreciation that's become all the more potent thanks to your series, and I just wanted to commend you on your videos and express that I look forward to whatever content you create going forward.

    I'm pretty sure Jinx heard Vi and Caitlyn on the bridge.. why else would she make a cupcake in the tea party scene with the arcane gemstone on top of it? Almost like mocking Caitlyn in multiple ways.
    Honestly these two are a mirror of Vander and Silco.. Vander couldn't take it upon himself to kill Silco since they were brothers, and his view became twisted and he became a crime lord of Zaun, pushing his beliefs of making it an independent nation while Vander settled down and took care of the orphans from their battle with Piltover. Now that Vander influenced Violet and Silco influenced Jinx, it's the same story of twisted beliefs and constant violence between Zaun and Piltover with Violet and Jinx.. but the question is, will Violet have the same outlook Vander did towards Silco when it comes to Jinx, or will she take a different route?

    • @athena8335
      @athena8335 11 месяцев назад +4

      I thought about the Cupcake on the table quite a bit and see two possibilities for where the heck Jinx heard that nickname. One, of course, is the bridge although she had to zoom in to even see them clearly, so I'm not sure whether she could have heard it or not. Also Vi isn't speaking loud bc these are private words and I doubt that even Ekko could hear them clearly. The other one would be that maybe before kidnapping Caitlyn Jinx followed her beforehand and heard the "breakup"- conversation between the two lovebirds. Maybe she waited for her sister to leave, so she could kidnap Caitlyn without interruption.
      Aaagh, I want season 2!!!!!! Even though our hearts will be broken so many times (most probably). I want Violyn, I want Jinx to find some kind of peace, I want to see the conflict between Piltover and Zaun unfold. I. want. ARCANE!

      I honestly can't determine but.. that's still a possibility. Jinx is lethal, she's smart, great shot, can build anything she puts her mind to, and now with being infused with Shimmer, she strength could rival Violets if it came to an all out brawl but, she would use it strategically. I feel like Violet needing the shimmer medicine when she was stabbed by Sevika was a foreshadow for Violet having to do the same to rival Jinx@@mjbakermd414

      It's hard to say how Jinx heard Caitlyn's nickname, it could be on the bridge or perhaps she's following them, listening in like she did with Silco at the Vander statue... Will be further developed in season 2 if Warwick is indeed Vander (as I've heard on the grapevine...)

I also love listening to analyses from you, Schnee, and TB Skyen. You all offer such unique and thoughtful perspectives. I hadn’t considered the saturation of Cait’s eyes correlating to changes in her character during different points of the plot. I guess it’s not too far fetched if I think about the other ways details about the eyes have been used to mark important events in the story (Jinx’s transformation, the way characters’ eyes lose their shine as when they die). I’ll have to pay more attention to that on the next rewatch.

    one critique i will make is that jinx gestures for vi to leave on the bridge when vi takes cait away. you can see her make a little face/gesture before vi, w tears in her eyes, goes away w cait. she WANTED vi to leave in that moment, as she had already felt betrayed by her again.
    edit: also, vi loves jinx the exact same way she loves powder bc jinx IS powder. i believe the reason she says nothing is the absolute shock and possibly confusion she feels. she feels guilty and scared. not to mention, nothing vi could have said in that moment would have changed jinx’s mind. vi has been trying to talk to her this entire time, but jinx’s paranoia doesn’t allow her genuine words to get through.

      Very good points about why Vi doesn't speak 👍 She loves Jinx, but loving doesn't alleviate everything, so yes she feels powerless to change anything, because as you say nothing she has said so far, made any real difference... And she's still tied up! Her maneuverability is very limited...
      I also agree that Jinx's expression/sneer on the bridge tells Vi that she won't be able to speak/reason with her in that moment... Jinx has made up her mind at that point!

    Your analysis is really very interesting, especially concerning the parallels between Cait and Jinx, which, in the light of your video, seem rather obvious.
    Obviously, there are a lot of stakes in the next season and I hope the producers manage to interweave the plots as well as they did in season 1 because it was brilliant.
    Regarding the love triangle, obviously a choice will have to be made. And the teaser gives us the stakes: whatever the choice, it will be heartbreaking. Cait will surely be in a vengeful mood against Jinx, and Vi, in her duty as a sister, will certainly continue to want to protect Jinx.
    Vi always chose her family because she never had anything else and Vander instilled in her a sense of responsibility and sacrifice.
    She feels responsible for Powder's transformation into Jinx, so it's her duty to deal with the problem she's become. And it will still be the case in S2. So yes she chooses her sister in season 1 despite her certain affection for Cait, but it's also because at that moment and until the last episode (and even then) she thinks that Powder is still there (and it's isn't completely wrong, until she accidentally kills Silco).
    No matter what happens, no matter who or why, these three protagonists suffer the events. Every choice is just an illusion. Everything brings them back to confront each other and it's as frustrating as it is exciting.
    I can't wait to see what awaits us.

    Love the video.😍Of course many points were already discussed, but still this new arrangement is very entertaining and surely shortens the waiting for season 2. Speaking of season 2: I must warn you that Riot are masters of misleading. In the trailers for season 1 they managed to even trick the lore pros with their editing of voice lines and scenes. While many things turned out as suspected they also laid some false trails. Having this is mind I strongly believe that even those few words we heard in the announcement trailer for season 2 are maybe not what they seem. It is too obvious imo that Violyn and Jinx are talking to eachother here. Caitlyn's line is pretty clear I guess, but Vi's line can be from various scenarious where she is willing to be the protector for someone and draw the "punches" towards herself (this is simply how Vi is). Jinx`line though I would take a bet it is not for Vi or Caitlyn at all. My fav option would be Ekko here (we all saw the look in his eyes when discovered Powder in Jinx on the bridge, right?). Especially since we got some raw info pieces from the makers regarding what to expect in season 2. As I am not sure if you would see this as spoiling I will not go into detail here. But if you are interested in more infos and maybe also some stuff from League lore of the characters you know how to contact me.. ;-) I could even imagine a plot line where Violyn and Jinx need to join forces against a bigger threat (Yes, Jinx is not necessary the biggest threat to P&Z!😜)
    Thanks a lot for the quality entertainment. ❤

      Thanks a lot! And yes, I know how to reach you :-) And I'm sorry for never getting around to replying to your excellent email about League lore, etc. But it completely slipped my mind. I guess League of Legends and their short videos and lore don't really float my boat, like Arcane does... But I so dig how much you got out of it!
      Anyway, I agree that the teaser trailer is just that: a teaser. So much can be inferred my what is said, and we have no visuals at all to back up anything... So much is going to happen in season 2 also with Jayce, Viktor, Ekko, Mel (if she survived) , Embessa, etc. that it will logically impact whatever is going on between the three characters presented in the teaser trailer. The teaser just fits really well with my interpretation, and I seriously doubt we'll get around Vi making some kind of choice about how to proceed with Jinx and Caitlyn. My guess is: it will be sad!!! Also because, like you said, "she is willing to be the protector for someone and draw the "punches" towards herself (this is simply how Vi is)." Nicely put, Vi is like that

      @tildaowen Hey. It is completely fine if you prefer to stay away from League and its lore. 👍
      The makers did an amazing job in making Arcane a great experience for both League veterans and newbies. As someone who is a little familiar with lore (far from being a pro though 😂) I had a lot of eastereggs (lines spoken, objects, etc) and reveals that got me very exited. But it also has some restrictions as simply knowing who is a champion in League tells me who is very, very likely having a plot armor for example. It is still not 100% save, but it tells me a lot about the ending of season 1for example.
      It also reveals something about where the story might go as for those who are champions there are stories available that are still in there future. This doesn't mean that we know how they get there though as Arcane also takes its freedom to change things compared to the canon lore. That is why it is considered an alternate universes that is very close to canon lore.
      As a newby you have the privilege to go completely blind into the story while missing some (many😜) innuendos .
      The teaser is a great example. For you it reveals 3 characters for season 2 and their possible storylines . For someone who is into the lore it actually reveals 4 characters (with 4 voicelines) and whole new possible plot that would most likely also influence our "love triangle". And it would also have more options for the main cast to suffer.. 😥
      But even without diving into the complex League lore you might want to consider watching the documentary about the making of Arcane called Bridging the Rift on youtube . It adds a lot to the show imo, but yes it will also reveal for some characters that they are League champions.
      The second thing is a reddit Q&A with the showrunners of Arcane where they tease a little on what to expect in season 2 wirhout getting to specific. There is one comment that will leave each Violyn fan both overly exited AND scared. 😂 Check it out if you like to:
      www.reddit.com/r/arcane/comments/yp9d4b/s1_spoilers_were_christian_linke_and_alex_yee/
      Apart of this if you would like to read the background to a specific Arcane character (if they are champions☝️) let me know and I will give my best to answer it.😉
      Finally: I read comments hoping for a
      collab with Ola from StopMeOh.
      If this would be something you are interested in I might be able to help with building a connection there as I am supporting Ola on her League journey as well. 😉

      @@masterofpuppets7586 You are so kind! Thanks for all the info 😊👍 I have heard of the Warrick (Vander?) character revealed in the teaser, and yes, "it had to be you" could very well be to a warped Vander "saved" by Singed (much like Jinx herself).
      I have also heard of the hints given by the showrunners about season 2 (Jubi Made This has filled me in already), so yes I fear Violyn happening only to end right after 😭

This was a great look into the dynamics between the three. I've always thought their "love triangle" was interesting, especially the way Jinx processes relationships. And having Caitlyn and Jinx be somewhat antitheses of each other yet similar is such a cool concept with the way they're portrayed visually and character-wise. I wasn't familiar with League lore before Arcane but I'm eager to see just how much of Arcane's story is going to stay true to League canon, especially considering how champions like Jinx are so classically recognizable the way they're depicted there. I guess it still could pan out differently within Arcane. I want everyone to make amends and be happy eventually lmao, but I kinda doubt it, sadly. At least some exciting parts of the original lore will probably happen! I appreciate all the CaitVi material and breakdowns and bits of humor too, these videos are always fun to watch!

    As usual, I love your perspectives. Thank you. I do think that Vi does make a conscious choice on the bridge the seconds before Jinx shoots to separate them (not convinced she was going for the kill or Caitlyn would have been shot). I think she also made a choice to agree with Ekko when the Boy Savior says, "GO!" Neither were thoughtful decisions, without influence, or easy ones. But she had agency, chose Caitlyn by action, and did not choose Jinx/Powder by word or action.

    • @tildaowen
      @tildaowen  11 месяцев назад +3

      Thank you! And you have a point, of course Vi makes decisions on the bridge, and of course she has agency... She lets the situation, Ekko, Caitlyn's injury decide that she will see the gem and Caitlyn to safety. What I'm getting at, is that many people seem to think that she makes a choice favouring Caitlyn over Jinx here, and I don't believe she does. The circumstances are extreme, so she reacts to them in a sensible way imo, but she doesn't make her choice. She goes to the council after to get the council's help with Silco, because she saw him with his paws all over Jinx. When the council doesn't help she leaves Caitlyn immediately: she's no longer in danger, and Vi wants to keep her out of the coming aggression against Silco. At least, that's how I see it 😊

    • @jasonmkc7797
      @jasonmkc7797 11 месяцев назад +1

      I absolutely love the Ekko - Jinx show down. I absolutely love yin yang, the counsel, what about us and the Vi & Jace team up. I get why the creators made those choices and I eagerly ate them up. But Vi choosing to let Ekko fight (hurt & maybe kill?) her sister rather than stepping in with her sister and letting Ekko help Caitlyn always struck me as odd. It's the only conflict where she didn't lead with her face. She made the choice not to lead her family (Ekko & her sister). It wasn't the safest thing for Ekko or her sister (or even Caitlyn) for Vi to walk away. It wasn't the easiest thing to do given the chaos of a fight and the coming enforcers. And it doesn't seem the logical choice given her loathing for Silco, her mistrust for the council, her sister's obvious mental health, and her relative indifference to the gem. To me, it feels like a choice of the heart -- one of Caitlyn over her sister. But I appreciate your view as well. ☺ @@tildaowen

    On the teaser, Cait talking to VI, VI talking to Jinx, Jinx talking to Caitlyn, Perfect circle, which clearly shows the dynamics of this trio. The strength of Jinx's words, "It had to be you," shows that the dynamic is no longer just between Vi/Jinx but that Caitlyn is an integral part of this relationship.
    Caitlyn sees it as an alchemist who believes the two people cannot exist together. That they are the two sides of the same coin and that the coin must stop spinning.
    Vi desperately wants to preserve the two people she loves the most; she wants to regain control.
    Jinx ultimately transfers her obsession with her lost relationship with her sister to a new relationship, her hatred for Caitlyn, "It had to be you." Almost a declaration, but in hatred.

      Well, of course I can't know for sure, but do you really think Jinx's shooting is that calm and precise in that moment? Yes, she's good at shooting, we've seen Powder do that (both in the past and on the flashback on the bridge against Ekko), but all her shooting we've seen her doing as Jinx (in the airship and when she goes against Firelights with Vi) hasn't been precise at all (her bombs have been precise, though!). So her being this precise when she's so affected by her emotions seems unlikely to me... She shoots at problems without considering the consequences, imo. 😊

    I'm a new Arcane fan so luckily my wait for s2 hasn't been as long as everyone else's. 😂 I looooooove these three characters so much! Especially Jinx. You did a great job here without being reductionist to overly favor the characters you like best (I see this kind of thinking a lot in fandoms...it's such a disservice to a such a nuanced show like this).
    Some things i thought about during the video. 1) interesting how Powder's firearms display as a child involved very precise shooting, vs. as a young woman where she just sprays bullets everywhere. 2) The scene where Vi sees her mom instead of Caitlyn. Vi has spent most of her life without a mother figure of any kind, and i think she misses that feminine nurturing care even though she doesn't realize it. She's spent the last how ever many years in prison getting beaten instead of receiving any kind of care. So when she receives that care from Caitlyn it impacts her right down in her soul. 3) I think Silco enforced the idea in Jinx's head that she can only have a close bond with one person for YEARS before Sevika says "she's replaced you" and that's why that sentence took such a deep hold. He was desperate that no one come between him and Jinx.
    4) I'm super worried about my girl...considering the themes and tone of the show i am having a hard time seeing her come out of it alive. Especially considering (what little i know about) her in-game character...it seems more like a break from the game to redeem her (like to have her "turn good") than to kill her (assuming that killing game characters isn't off the table). The only alternative i can see is a situation where Vi dies to save her but...that's almost worse idk I'm goin to go cry now.

Jinx didn't chose to kill Silco, but in a triggered state she instinctually shot at the threat of the sound of the pin drop in Silco's gun.
      If it had been Violet who fired the gun, Jinx would have killed Violet. this has been confirmed somewhere. Jinx was not instinctively intended to protect Violet.hThat's entirely the reason she then chooses the Jinx chair, yet again, she was a Jinx to her family.
      There is no Powder, Jinx situation there, nor is it a conscious decision. It's just tragedy. Once again, Powder unwittingly killed her family. But this time she killed someone who loved her perfectly. This is probably Jinx's breaking point.

"Kill x and y for me, if you love me, Powder.". A cold, toxic bargaining for "getting back" something as naive as Powder.

    Loooll totally agree that they Did Not Plan. Vi just wanted Piltover’s help eliminating Silco, and Caitlyn had the naive belief that once they identify the key criminal (Silco), he’d be brought to justice, the gemstone would be found, and the war situation can deescalate. They thought once they prove the case against Silco, all would surely be well and they didn’t do a single “what if” exercise. Shoulda listened to Mommy Kiramman.
    My heart is in pieces that Cait’s last look at her mom was that “well done” nod. Ughhh the cruelty.

    I slightly disagree with the interpretation of jinx bringing good luck to violyn, this would be if we saw the show with Vi as the protagonist, which i think to the viewer in general is easier go relate to Vi
    However if we watch the show from Jinx's perspective, she in a jinx not only for others, but SPECIALY for herself, and mainly herself
    I don't know how they managed to write this so brilliantly, but every single action Jinx takes only brings her misfortune into what she wants/needs, from taking the crystals, to killing vander and vi reacting, to impulsively hugging silco that would only feed her jinx persona to the point vi gets shocked, putting for the first time in vi's head the doubt of her sister being a monster
    From taking agency and figuring out who sevika was looking for so now sevika feeds her the idea of vi changing her from caitlyn.
    Blowing up the grenade with ekko, bc she isnt really scared of death, just resulted in the shimmer exposure...
    When vi tells her they can just run away which should be MUSIC to her ears, she decides to let silco speak, so he just pulls the jinx strings again, and she kills him
    Jinx jinxes her own life first, and then jinxes the rest in the process, and it goes to the degree of provoking a war that would ironically bring the same misfortune towards other people what she had to endure as a kid

    • @tildaowen
      @tildaowen  7 месяцев назад

      Sorry for the late reply! I agree that from the perspective of Jinx as the protagonist (and in a way she and Vi both are, though I argue for the opposite, and as you say, Vi is more relatable), Jinx jinxes herself and those closest to her to a tragic degree... Yes, very well written!

    That moment when at minute 22:27 you ACCIDENTALLY let slip the same thought I had. 😆
    Yes... The viewers. 🤣🤣
    in Italian we call it a good "climb on mirrors/arrampicarsi sugli specchi" or we just say "I can hear the noise of your nails running on mirrors from here/posso sentire il rumore di unghie sugli specchi da qui" (When you try to cover up something with something else to deflect the attention from what you actually say in the first scenario 🤣).
    I laughed so much at that part that I had to pause the video to regain a certain appearance of restraint. 🤣
    The saddest thing about Vi, is seeing her choosing a love grounded in remorse and duty... than a love based on trust and reciprocity. 🥺
    Seeing her hurting Caith again over again every time she chooses Powder is heartbreaking.
    Especially because Caith chooses again over again to be by Vi's side, choosing a love based on trust and to trust Vi before duty. 😢
    God HOW MUCH I LOVE THIS SHOW.
    It's so well written.
    It's so full of topics and feelings.
    Can't wait for next season to struck us like a TIR.
    As always, thank you for making the waiting between seasons more bearable with your deep and so well exposed analysis. 🤩

      Your reading of the uneven nature of Vi and Caitlyn's budding relationship is spot on, and I'm not sure it will change 😭 But the writers have given us enough hope that we are glued to the screen!

    I've watched three of your videos about Vi and Cait and i was in love with Caitlyn before but you've just sold me on her so much harder i think that if i could marry a fictional woman then i would
    My hope for this story is that the tragedy of Arcane is Vi and Jinx's tragedy, not Vi and Caitlyn's. I think the story will end how the games begin, with Vi joining Cait as an antagonistic enforcer, disowning Jinx and fighting her instead of reaching for her. Especially after Jinx kills Cait's mother, forcing Cait -a non verbal person in terms of self expression- and makes her emotionaly react in a way no one has ever seen
    Just look at Cait's face during that last shot in the final song, tahts the most emotion ive ever seen her express, and she's expressing it to Vi, who is very emotional and will most likley jump to return the comfort Cait's been giving Vi the whole season
    The tragedy being between Jinx and Vi means that when their relationship falls apart the violyn ship is no longer in danger and can hapen with no problem
    But i dont know, i cant wait to see season 2 and find out

    • @tildaowen
      @tildaowen  4 месяца назад

      I'm with you, quite ready to marry a cartoon character!
      I think there'll be plenty of tragedy with Vi and Caitlyn, I don't think Caitlyn will have much comfort for Vi, if her sister has killed Caitlyn's mother... But I also have hope that they can work it out in the end, after a lot of heartbreak in between.

      @@VioletArcane6 Well, I've heard that they'll branch out to other parts of Runeterra after Arcane, with other champions as the main characters, but I really don't know for sure... My greatest hope is that the show stops, when it's supposed to! That it has been thought through from start to finish, before it began being made. That way it won't continue indefinitely with the plot and characters gradually changing from the initial idea in order to keep it going (like so many great shows that started out great, but ended badly for the sake of keeping viewers). So I guess, I hope the show ends after season 2, if that's where it was intended to end... 🤷🏼‍♀️ More seasons would be good, but only if they were intended AND if they're as great as the first...
