These games with monstrous crowds often came about through promotions with Marathon gas stations, I think it was $1 tickets for a seat in the upper bowl of the Dome. Since it was just a year and a half before The Palace of Auburn Hills became home floor for Detroit, it was probably one of the last such deal nights. Quite sure I was there for this game and there were fistfights up in the bowl, lots of smoke hanging above the floor and I was pleased to take it in from an expansive reserved section.
In the 1980s, my favorite 5 individual matchups we're: 1-Isiah Thomas versus Mo Cheeks 2-Mark Aguirre versus Charles Barkley 3-Marques Johnson versus Dr.J 4-Bernard King versus Mark Aguirre 5-Larry Bird versus Dr J
Most people don't try to dunk it inside when they're standing next to a big center. Barkley always did anyway. He could jump over the centers and he was strong enough to take contact while doing it.
Is the full game out there anywhere? Die hard Pistons fan would like more of the 86-87 and 87-88 reg season games but not many to find where ive been looking!
The full game technically exists but it's not available on RUclips, as they cut down on full games this past summer. I'll keep my eye out for more '87 and '88 footage. I love this Philly footage because it's pretty clean for '87 and had a lot low angle shots of the Silverdome, showing off its cavernous feel.
Charles never had help all throughout his career. Malone and Dr. J: very old way past their primes. Same with washed Hakeem and Clyde. And even Pippen.... im sorry, kevin Johnson and Majerle are very good players but they are not who you want to be with to get a chip.
That's false. All those guys were All-Stars, All-NBA, All-Def playing alongside Barkley. The Sixers won the chip in 83 and Barkley was drafted 84-85. The Suns won 50+games from 89-92 and made two WCF before Barkley arrived. The Rockets were back-2-back champs in 94 & 95 before Barkley joined in 96-97. Barkley simply underachieved. He had many opportunities.
@@sideshowbobsaget8876 Barkley had no help with the sixers. They traded Malone, made some other bad trades and Dr. J retired. He had a really good shot with the suns for 3 straight years, and they lost to the eventual champs all 3 years. It was just a case of bad luck... a play here , a play there, thats all it takes to make or break. If Bulls didnt hit the game winning 3 in game 6 of the 92-93 season, we are talking about a game 7 at home. They were up 3-1 against the rockets and did not get a few balls in theur favor. Chuck never got that and unfortunately for Barkley those three years the ball tip did not go in his favor. After that, injuries caught up with him due to his style of play and that was that. The door was sealed shut.

Even the Bad Boys Pistons could not stop the relentless, powerful, 263-pound Charles Barkley. Barkley was nasty and ferocious
Barkley was a beast, goat PF in prime

Yeah Barkley can speak on Zion Williamson Sir Charles was putting in work
what a beast
Always impressed by Barkley’s foot work. For a guy his size....
For some reason the Sixers had the Piston's number in the Barkley Era, but struggled against the Celtics and the Bulls
Wasn't even a good shooter yet. Beast.
barkley was so nice
Who is this fresh, fit young man
Barkley bullied the bad boys and made them look weak.
That was NOT goal tending.
Clean block if I ever saw one. They hated the Round Mound.
It was not easy to score 30 on the ‘87 Pistons and playing directly against Rodman

Need Thomas’ highlights from this game
I’ll see what I can do but Zeke kinda struggled this game (20 points, 7-of-19 shooting, 3 assists).
