@@thenomad9963 small town. >6 months dark winter, remote (no one comes here to give a talk or to hire, hence, no networking), last, but definitely not least, not high quality faculties (overall). Academia on its own is a sick beast, I have not seen other places, but I could imagine probability of working w/ better people @ UW is higher (well, there is house rent, working harder there. etc. as well ...) There are some fields w/ overall better quality, here and there are high quality faculties as well... Since you are freshman, perhaps advisor/faculties does not matter much... I donno. But from what I hear it is a party school... fling as much as you can ... do not let your youth slip away from you ... (and of course, do not let go of science, think about future as well as the girls ;) )
