    I was a Wazzu from 2021-2023, I was there when I heard the Idaho murders happened nearby in the next city over. Honestly besides that event, my experience there was relatively safe I'd say. It really helps to have a good group of friends where you can keep tabs on one another and have each others backs.

      Yes, it happened in Moscow. Unfortunately the sole suspect lived in Pullman and was still on campus for weeks following the murders. Couldn’t agree more on having a solid friend group that keeps tabs on one another!

    Just a point of clarification, the population in Pullman (excluding students) is approximately 30, 000. There are some students who get included in that number because they are technically "locals", but the student population is generally excluded from that number because they do the census in the Summer. Anyway, it is interesting and useful to have your perspective as an out of state student.

    hi, i'm from the bay area in cali and wsu is my top choice atm, so this video was extremely helpful! tysm for doing this! : )
    also, I have two questions:
    1. when renting an off-campus apartment, how did you find one/ what websites did you use?
    ^ the thing is, if I do go to wsu (which is a 99% chance), i'll be attending the vancouver campus and they dont have dorms lol. my parents won't be paying for my college or anything at all, but paying $750/ month with a roommate seems manageable.
    2. how easy is it to find a job?

    • @sophiajuliet.
      @sophiajuliet.  Год назад +6

      HI Luci, all great questions. I am at the Pullman campus and have not spend substantial time in other parts of the state so my experience is limited to WSU Pullman. I did not use a website to find my current apartment as everyone is already aware major apartment complexes here. As for finding a job (at WSU Pullman) it is very easy to work on campus. Prior experience is not necessary for many student positions. I currently work multiple jobs on campus and love it. Many students apply over the summertime to ensure a job by their first day of school.

    If anyone thinks Pullman is that super small of a town, they need to pay attention to the sizes of the towns you drive through between Pullman and Seattle, Pullman and Spokane, Pullman and Boise, Pullman/Moscow and Missoula. It’s about 12,000 if you take away the Univ students and staff. There’s plenty of towns in the region that are less than 1000 people. Yes on cost of living.. there’s kids who pay $1700/mo at Univ of Washington in Seattle to sleep on a couch. Not have a room.. just a couch in a small apartment with roommates who pay $2000 to actually have a room that barely fits a bed.
    As for crime, yeah there’s creeps everywhere but things like the murders over at UofI in 2022 are an extremely rare occurrence. Lastly, do yourself a favor and stay away from the Greek system at WSU. Otherwise, pretty good vid.

    You brought back some good memories; I was from L.A. in 1970 and was a floor senator on 5th floor Perham. (Patty Murray was a floor senator in Streit.) I stayed at WSU during vacations and liked it very much....all the quiet and having the run of the dorm to myself,....very cozy feeling. In those days, Murrow students were sports and news announcers on KWSU radio and tv, but my first audition there wasn't too good, so they wouldn't let me on the air until I was more seasoned by doing games and shows on KUGR (the minor leagues.) But during vacation they needed KDUB staffers since everyone went home, so I stayed on campus and did that....that's how I "cracked the lineup." And my instructors were impressed with that. Also, if you are out of state and get a job in Washington during the summer (I worked KWSU "summer crew") you are then eligible to be a Wash. resident and then you can get in state tuition, which is a big savings.....that's what I did, too.

    • @sophiajuliet.
      @sophiajuliet.  4 месяца назад

      I liked reading about your experience as a Murrow student - thank you for sharing! KUGR is still alive and well these days, but I can't say I've heard of KWSU radio. Granted, I never strayed toward broadcasting. Now, the broadcasting students are crazy about Cable 8 Productions. It's a TV production and a few of my friends loved their time on it. Pullman during the summer months is the best!
