For Coy Hill, the 40% abv is related to the COLA/TTB approval process because it’s a whiskey, and that is the minimum abv for it to be a whiskey. Those bottles will be barrel proof.
Oh I totally agree with you. I only mention things like I did in this video because there’s a significant amount of chatter about it being 80 proof. I don’t like to make my videos strictly my opinion so I try and give both sides light of day. But it’s 99% going to be cask strength just like every coy hill; cask strength but differentiating proofs like all single barrels
The ABV on any label is not relevant to the final product. Talking about that from a TTB label is just making noise.
I love these videos. Keep them coming
Great information and insight. I’m pretty excited for a lot of these!
You know what would be fun??? Add up all the msrp prices on all of these releases and see what it adds up to!! Haha. Cheers
That price might actually make us second guess our life choices hahahah
@@TheBourbonWrench ain’t that the truth!!
Your fiscal awareness is second to none. If you’re not debt free already you are definitely on step 4 of the Dave Ramsey model.
That JB winter reserve sounds nice. I’m usually a lower proof bourbon guy, higher for rye, and one of my go to bourbons is Old Tub.
Thanks! Fun to see what might be coming out!
Now let’s just hope we can get one!!
Thank you for this video
Cheers brother!
So excited for all the bottles I'll either never see or will cost so much when I do I'll have to skip a mortgage payment in order to get.
We can dream right hahahah
Jack Daniels 12 is hard to find. So is the 10. Took me a full year to land the 12 year but I enjoyed pours of the 10 and the 12 for $10 at my local Bourbon bar while I waited. Will the 14 be hard to land at MSRP? Yep, but even if I don't get one I know where I can land a pour :)
Don't pay over MSRP for JD age stated. It's good stuff but it's not life changing. Be patient, and try it at a bar. The one thing you can say about JD products... they are often in bars. You're far more likely to encounter JD 10, 12, and likely the 14 in a bar for a reasonable price than you are to find any other bottle shown on this list.
I was told the 70th 101/8 will be in the $60-$70 range.
There’s the man with the answers we want to hear! Much more fair of a price. Here’s the real question though; what do you think they’ll be going for on secondary?
@@TheBourbonWrench I’m not on the secondary so I’m somewhat out of touch with that. Probably something dumb when it first comes out then it’ll settle down.
Great video trev. Good to see rare bird on here… much respect, good sir.
If Kentucky spirit is 8 year old 101 for 60 to 70 bucks, and this is 8 year old 101 for 60 to 70 bucks, what’s the difference? Sounds like the same exact product.
Also curious, if the regular 101 is a blend of 6 and 8 year old barrels for 25 bucks, why is this so much more expensive? Seems like it should be in the 40 dollar range.
Trev, I think you’re right, everything feels like a money grab these days. If it’s not a single barrel then it’s a limited release or export only. They seem to be maximizing profits during the postcovid bourbon boom.
@@karymillet8884 Kentucky Spirit is a single-barrel expression with a stated maturation location and bottling date. 101 and 101/8 are small batch products.
I'd assume that the Russells would pick special barrels for a batch dedicated to Jimmy's 70th anniversary.
I don't see how a bottle celebrating Jimmy Russell's 70th year at the distillery (the longest tenured master distiller, of anything, in the world) is a money grab - especially at $60-$70 in 2024 (a plain bag of chips is $7). Jimmy is a living legend. 101/8 is his favorite expression. It's what he wants.
I agree with your comments. As always, appreciate the insight
I passed on a Dickel 17 year for $250. Barrell Craft is releasing a Muzinara (Japanese oak) finish also and that sounds interesting.
I think I posted that barrel one in a previous video because I actually have it AND have a review coming 👀
You didn't provide any details about what the Four Roses 2024 LE is!
I didn’t have any details for it! I don’t think much has been mentioned other than it’s just this years 2024 small batch le!
Another one i saw recently that you didn't mention: Elijah Craigh Toasted Barrel Private Selections....
I did see that one too and almost put it on here. I’m always hesitant with those because they have a specific liquor store already on the label so I’m like “IS this going to be a thing thing?” But yes, I’m stoked for those. Toasted is a polarizing bottle, but at cask strength may be even better? Time will tell!
Sweet Braves jersey! Chop On
I have them all! Home, away, alternate, city connect. I just couldn’t help myself hahaha
Dangerous waters! A bunch of wallets sinking to the bottom brother! 😂
And it’s not my wallet hahahaha
The OGD sounds good!
I bet it’ll be amazing!
I'm going to be in Dallas next week. I've located Discovery 11 at $135. I'm going to see if they have a sample and maybe get it.
I thoroughly enjoy it! Much much better than the previous couple of releases they dropped imo
If you had to compare Discovery 3 or 4 to 11 what would be your thoughts? imo it went downhill after those. But started to come back up with 11.
discovery 8 was a banger, that was the canadian whiskey one
I can only dream about these. 😆 cheers!
That Heaven Hill Grain to Glass seems like a step child of Larceny and Old Fitz and Bernheim
That’ll be a fun comparison!
Also, they are doing a Rye whiskey as well…63/24/13 is the mashbill and a standard bourbon 52/35/13
With 14 years Jack Daniels release, 12 years bottle may become easier to find
I wish they’d put out enough of them and regular enough we can find them as easy as knob creek 12 year
Reamus highest rye is mighty fine. Price is decent. Mid 50s.
Lots of great bottles. Hoping I win one of the 4R or OFBB drawings this year. Would love to add those JD releases to the 10-12 year ones I got this year.
WHISKEY CHEERS 😎
Cheers nerd!!!
I have an Irish chinkapin finish whiskey that I really like. What I don't like is the way Angels Envy prices their products. I guess we'll find out.
I really don’t know who they are even aiming at. It’s weird to me lol
Four rose drops this Saturday in Ohio 💯💯👍🏻👍🏻
Old Grand Dad 114 is a little secret here in my parts, but I think it's going to eventually be allocated unfortunately. It's already allocated in some states.
It’s hit or miss here. It’ll definitely disappear but then shows back up for months on end. I don’t think it should be something people freak out over, but the fact it’s high proof and under $30 makes it special
It's sitting on shelves and packed in boxes on the floor all over here in Northern Kentucky.
Cheers🥃🥃🇺🇸👊
Cheers brother!!!
Say what you want about the rest, but I'll cut men down to get that JD 14 given how good the 12 is and how much better it is over the 10
Hahahaha go for it, I’ll be sitting by in my lawn chair watching the chaos that you cause 🤣 I’ll grill the steak if you let me try it
@@TheBourbonWrench deal! This is how it's done. Everyone gets a job and executes haha
Rare breed still the best bourbon money can buy.
I’ll never argue against that
Regarding age statement - All legacy distilleries are bringing back age statements. It's their plot armor against craft distilleries. We've seen smaller, but older, brands like Rebel do the same thing. The older brands have a massive warehouse advantage over craft and they stopped leveraging it because they were afraid they needed to start blending young whiskey into releases. The bourbon craze has slowed (and the market became bloated) so they don't have supply concerns. We will continue to see this trend of age statements, and increasing age statements (like JD) into next year.
The funny part is Sazerac is the biggest offender of using young whiskey. They never had a shortage of barrels - they just hoarded barrels. It's a business ploy. All the financing for their expansion is wasn't interest bearing until construction was complete. Now that most construction is complete they will ramp up sales (we are already seeing far more distribution) to match against the interest. We also probably see a return of higher age statements if bottles start to sit around when they flood the market (and the associated price hike that is anticipated).
Anyway - I think Sazerac actually bungled the bourbon boom. Consumers are fickle and short sighted. They didn't build brand loyalty, they just built FOMO. FOMO is something quickly abandoned when a brand is available. Ask any store owner. When their store was on allocation for Smoke Wagon or another other new brand/bottle they had customers beating down their door to get a bottle. Soon as the bottle becomes widely available (aka they can reorder all they want), consumers just stop buying the product. I've scene the same thing happen to countless bottles. Bourbon enthusiasts are excited about what they can't have. When they can have it... they start buying what's good. Sazerac is FINE, but it's not great. Weller FP and Blantons are both 6-8 year old whiskey now and that's not exciting in a world where 8+ year age statements are becoming more and more common.
Two things will happen - Sazerac will bump supply and prices causing sales to slowly decline. Once sales decline to a point they are unhappy they will throw an age statement on the bottle to reintroduce hype... and a couple more bucks on the price tag. They will rinse and repeat
Honestly with most of these, if they are over 60 bucks im out. The babe ruth, $60, the angels envy, $60, heaven hill $60, bookers, $60, the wild turkey better be 40 bucks cause all it is is a cross between russells 10 and wt 101.. the disco and the jack are the only ones id go 100+ for and thats purely because theyve earned that trust, but even that reaches a point.
Exactly!! But let’s face it; I doubt any of them will be the price we think they should be
@@TheBourbonWrench probably not. But we can hope
Marketing Wank everywhere on some of these! Weller Millennium label came down today too, TATER TIME!!!
No way! Just missed that stupid thing hahahah
Again it’s about pricing. I don’t chase special releases or camp for anything if I walk in a store and it’s there and not over priced I’ll get it but if not I don’t need it. I’m really comfortable with where I’m at I’ve been drinking for over 40 years have seen the lean times and the boom and I realized that it’s more important to drink what you like than what you think you need. I am perfectly okay with WT 101 Knob creek 9 and Russell single barrel which I can walk into any store in my area and get for a very good price. No stress or aggravation. No standing in lines for hours or days waiting for a bottle that may not even show up. It’s just booze.
Right there with you. I haven’t gotten a single “allocated” bottle on my own in a while. The last one I got was 1924 and that was with help from friends. I’ve all but stopped chasing all that crap. For one the prices are getting insane, and two, the amount of time it’ll take you to get it is just wasting life lol
Jack Daniels dropping BOMBS on the Bourbon community!!!!!! To bad I cant find any of them
Ain’t that the truth. They are definitely dropping some bangers though. For those who do get them, they’ll love it lol
Sad part of the Wild Turkey 70th anniversay is, it doesn't matter what they charge. There are idiot taters who will buy anything thats "limited" and flip it for profit, illegally. That release should be $50 or less. I'm going to assume it will be $100.
Say it louder for the people in the back! People will buy it just for the idea behind it, people will buy it because it’s a new label Turkey, people will buy it for the sake of buying it. Name the price; someone’s buying.
When I can get WT101,aged 6-8 yrs for $23, I'm not gonna pay $60-$70 for a 101 anniversary bottle. That's why I haven't bought a Kentucky Spirit yet. I'd probably pay $60-$70 for a Rare Breed, but don't tell anybody.🤫
The only way I go for the Turkey is if I go to Turkey and get it signed.
I can agree with that. I just feel like it’s gonna be far more expensive than is worth. Id rather buy a $20 101 and get it signed compared to their crazy prices they’ve been putting out
Did I miss an old fact or something??? Bardstown has a new 4 grain bourbon??? Jagweeds, why did nobody tell me about this????
Bardstown 4 grain???? Have I missed something? Or is just going to be glazed over??? I need answers.
Turkey 8 year is already out in Japan. I don't understand what the big deal is.
Rants incoming!!
I’m getting PISSED!
Gotta say wild turkey continues to disappoint 70th anniversary and they don’t even give us the dang WT12 we all know the WT12 is going to be better than this release sad
Other than the OGD 👍🥃😉, it's looking like 2024 is going to be the year of over priced gimmicky bourbon. 🤔😖
Waited to see the OGD 10 years or more for ages
Oh.. OGD 16 year is going to be terrible. Each legacy brand is looking for a way to offload their soured, over oaked, barrels. The best way, and most profitable way, to do it is by releasing an LE under one of their less renowned brands with a high age statement. We've seen it before. Often these are barrels they couldn't even offload at a good price to a private label/craft brand.
Dope liquor information channel. Terrible jersey wearer
Suck a butt hahaha
6 to 8 year old thing for existing Wild turkey 101 is a lie
Very well could be, but I also know that some of the Kentucky spirit picks have some pretty aged stuff. A couple years ago, I even tried a 15 year pick. I’m sure those are few and far between now if not totally nonexistent, but it’s happened! Shoot look at Russell’s picks, they have nice aged stuff in them and are at a great price point.
@@TheBourbonWrench haha.. I am from India. I don't have access to most of the bourbons. But, I love bourbon. I have had basic bourbons likeWild Turkey 101, Jack Daniels Bonded (duty-free edition, Jack Daniels old no 7, Jim beam black, Jack Daniels single barrel select, etc. I like them all. I keep watch bourbon reviews in a hope that someday I will visit USA and try most of them
I'm tired of the grain to glass nonsense
