Will say that Jason C did ask HH master distiller Conor Driscoll about the ECBP C923 code conspiracy on a recent live video (props to Mash & Drum for not side stepping the topic) but Driscoll dismissed the claims that the codes were different batches of bourbon. What he DID admit is that (for some reason or another) they interupted bottling of the C923 midway to bottle another product and then commenced finishing the C923 bottling. Whatever residue was left in those lines had an impacts that a lot of people picked up on. Would be odd, but perhaps something similar went on with the Old Fitz bottles 🤷

Never was lucky enough to grab an Old Fitz but I’ve definitely been severely disappointed after trying first bottles of highly recommended juice , only to try a second bottle that redeemed its reputation. Have to wonder about the consistency in process when barrels are being dumped for bottling. I’m somewhat naive to the actual process but I wonder if bottles vary depending on how many barrels are dumped and if a the juice is from the beginning, middle or end of the bottling process. I guess it’s also possible that the bottle was doctored in some way. It wouldn’t be the first time, as high demand/limited supply of anything encourages nefariousness.
Matt, maybe yours is “corked”?? Your a big deal, I think you should call Heaven hill, and they should send you a bottle of OF17 or the new OF13 LE. :D

Not just Whiskey. For a decent Cognac you have to go well north of 100.
The brother in law and I had finished our Henessey XO - a great cognac. He bought the next bottle. Agakn from a reputable store. I was like goat piss mixed with gasoline. It genuinely tasted like to 10 buck bottle of supermarket own brand. But 100% original. Ive no idea what went wrong with this batch but it should never have been sent to market.

Its not just HH. I recently had 2 down right awful sips of eagle rare and Weller Full Proof. AND THEY WERE BOTH STORE PICKS!!! Both of them were just flat and uneventful, versus someone elses bottel.
The 2023 10 year I tried is more in line with your Bottle than Bill's. Also, the ECBP laser code problem goes back further than C923.
Yes. I remember when the Junkies reviewed that ECBP and got sharpie marker notes. I think that was batch A122? I remember it was an A batch. And everyone was like what are you talking about. Then they got a sample from someone and compared and the sample was way better than theirs. Seems Heaven Hill has consistency issues.
@@red5standingby419 A122 is exactly the batch I'm talking about. My bottle has consistently beaten every other recent ECBP release in blind after blind, even both C923 batches.

I have a Mckenna 10 that I hate, smell and taste was bad, I thought I hated it but everyone told me it was good. Then broke down and got a pour at a bar and it was good. Its a bummer that it can be a crap shoot on bottles like that.
With a single barrel product like McKenna, I understand, but it is strange for limited releases
I also have a crappy McKenna.
I didn't realize that McKenna was single barrel, had it the first time, said nope and stuck it in the way back of my shelf and never looked into it again. That would explain that. I just thought the store owner had it somewhere in the sun or something.
McKenna 10 is the most inconsistent "popular" single barrel product I've come across. I've had both good and bad bottles, but wayyyyy more bad than good - especially more recently. I don't even mess with it anymore.
At this point, I don't like much of Haven Hill's lower proof lineup. Larceny PB and EC BP are decent but again they can be so different, but at least they are batches and you can wait for someone who knows what they are talking about to give us the heads up.
My first pour of Blanton’s tasted so much better than my first bottle.. This can’t be far from that feeling..
My first bottle of Blanton’s (bottled in 1992) was amazing. I haven’t had one close to that since.
