@@FishingwithRod Hahaha, you are right Rod, we got a lot of different species of fish but i was always fascinated with ice fishing, hahaha. If you ever come to New Zealand let us know and we do a Trout fishing trip on us, you just pay your own expenses.Tight lines, safe and happy fishing and best regards,, Tony.
Maybe because I haven't eaten them for a few years now, but these ones were by far the best lake trout or char I've eaten. I just thawed and cooked another fillet two nights ago and it was absolutely delicious.
Hey Rod great job in the brookies. What lake was that you fish at. I was up in kamloops a couple a weeks ago we fished stump lake and red lake. Fishing was slow but managed to pull a six and a half lb male rainbow and a bunch for brookies.
@@FishingwithRod I was about to say you belong in prison for even suggesting such a thing, but then I remembered that I do love salmon sandwiches with mayo, diced green onions and salt and pepper. Yeah, you've convinced me. I'd give mayo a shot.
@@Mo_Taser Yep! And mayo that has been heated with the fish tastes completely different than the cold mayo in sandwiches. It really is a good combination, give it a go.
Are the brookies still biting now? I keep hearing they are only good fishing with first ice. I went to this lake last weekend, saw fish, but no commitment. I was on the opposite corner from where you were, 8 ft deep.
I've had similar reports from the last couple of weeks too. In the past, the fishing definitely slows down as the season progresses but not completely dead. I've gone back in February and even early March with enough success to keep me going back. With the early ice this season, there is always a threat of winter kills. Thick ice and snow are preventing sunlight from penetrating, resulting in less oxygen being produced so fish activities will slow down, and death in the worst case scenario. That could be what you were observing.
Thanks. Well there are about half a dozen lakes stocked with brook trout around Merritt and all of them can be productive right now. That narrows down the search a bit. 😉 In fact, I'll be trying two other ones next week. I would go to: www.gofishbc.com/Stocked-Fish.aspx#fish-stocking Punch in "Merritt" under town, and "Eastern brook trout" under species and a list would pop up.

Thanks Tony! Perhaps one day as NZ is on the list. Getting down there is not a problem, really just comes down to finding the time to do it. 🙂
Whether it's ice or non, I'm impressed with your fish catching karma Rod!!
Haha thanks, but your opinion may change if I also upload videos of those days when fishing is completely dead. 😁

@@FishingwithRod I assume it's just as good with salmon as it is with trout.

What are you using as bait?
Check out the second half of this video where I’ve talked about the whole setup. 😉
Can you put a tutorial on how to have a weekend fishing trip without bringing the family 😅
I'll see what I can do. 🤣
