By any standard fabulous fishing, but I was astonished at the color of that brookie's meat. Looked more like a sockeye fillet. Very cool Rod! Been watching for about 10 years and always enjoy your content.
Thanks Ernst! It always amazes me to hear how long people have watched the videos or checked out the website. Thanks! The flesh of the brook trout from most of the lakes around here is always this colour. They taste amazing, especially when caught in the winter months while ice fishing. We caught a bunch last winter and they were absolutely delicious. So delicious that my kids now refuse to eat other fish and demand to only eat brook trout... which is both good and bad. Good because now I get to go catch more, bad because good brook trout opportunities are not that abundant.
Up to Edith the last two weekends and had a blast. Catching on Chironomids towards mid day last Saturday. So the hatch is well under way! Trying to figure out that lake from the proximity of the HWY. Lots of action, gotta love it!
It shouldn't be too hard to figure it out... 😅 That's great you've had a couple of good sessions at Edith. This heat wave is changing plans a bit, hopefully it'll cool down next week.
Hey, Rod, I'll be visiting Kamloops next month in August for some fishing and golfing. I've been following you for years and your fishing info has helped me out tremendously. But, this time i need to know the name of that Ramen shop. That bowl looked amazing😁
Hey thanks Rod, you were kept busy. Is it just about time to take Nina fishing so she can show you how its done. Just kidding bud. I am a bit jealous right now. Cheers
Awesome day fishing in the lake Rod. I really want to try lake fishing too. Is your boat a Tracker? What's the length of your boat if you don't mind me asking. Thanks.
That is a G3 1442 jon boat. 14 feet long, the widest part of the base is 42 inches. It's great for two people, and can accommodate three people if need to. I have a video tour of this boat at: ruclips.net/video/ohPhiF2JjOs/видео.html
That line I was using is a pretty old Scientific Angler clear sink but still casts well, I don't remember the model actually. I am using a new SA line now, Sonar Stillwater, which is even better....

I was stripping a leech at the start which more often than not would work for me if nothing is hatching. Once the hatch started, you’ll notice that the indicator rod was getting all the bites because I had a chironomid hung a foot off the bottom.
Phil Rowley and Brian Chan would have the bes resources for this. They both have books on the subject, and host a few seminars (both online and in person) each year. Phil has a RUclips channel too and his videos go into great details on fly patterns etc. You should look him up.
Those are 5 and 6 wts. I used to run 4 wts but after a few seasons, I decided that they were too light for these fish which were being overplayed, plus 5 or 6 just casts much more easily in the wind from the boat.
Not really actually haha... I tie every now and then, more frequently twenty years ago. Right now I am so busy with my work, tying is not on my priority list and it's just easier to have others tying for me.
I've done quite a few chironomid fishing with gear rods actually, like this one: ruclips.net/video/4Sxwxm6LhVo/видео.html But I will do one by float fishing with a spinning setup again soon.
@@dsmith2601 Yeh I was thinking Partial kill at best, or Rod ws lucky enough to catch the last 7 or so fish left in the lake. Mind you he is a pretty good fisherman.

What a day Rod What a day!! All your worries & stresses disappear in those moments
Yep! I was just thinking about this particular outing last night actually. It doesn't always line up like that, but when it does, totally worth it!

Once again Rod, thanks for the video!
My pleasure 🙂
Awesome content Rod! Thanks so much for this. Keep it coming!
Thank you Robert!

Thanks!
OMG the fish in the end was awesome 👏
Yeah!
That was crazy. Nice work 🤙

Just check the stocking reports and it’ll help narrow it down. I think I have it figured out 🤞🏻guess I’ll see this weekend.
@@baynetrain15 Yeh I am close to discovering the secret too. I think I know where it is.
@@FishingwithRod Supposed to. Would love to follow you up some weekend. I will be heading to Jako, Tunkwa and Morgan this coming weekend.
Good luck! I won't be back to the lakes until later this month unfortunately. May just got really busy all of a sudden....
Great stuff. Gorgeous fish.
Thanks!

That’s Tiger Ramen! It’s not the best I’ve had but it’s pretty good, especially for Kamloops. 😃 facebook.com/tigerramen
@FishingwithRod Thanks Rod, who would've thought ramen in Kamloops
Yeah Kamloops surprisingly has quite a few excellent Asian restaurants. I still got a few on my list that I want to try out when I'm there again.
Hey thanks Rod, you were kept busy. Is it just about time to take Nina fishing so she can show you how its done. Just kidding bud. I am a bit jealous right now.

lol thanks Scot. Nina doesn't really fish that much these days. We got two little ones at home and she has her own interests going as well.
NSA non stop action!!!
Some beauty trout Rod way to go
Thanks!

That meat has amazing color! So beautiful
Yep! Brook trout are amazing for eating. 😁
What line you using while stripping that leech rod? Intermediate or sinking ?? Thanks!

Hey rod is this video was last year?
Yep
Ha Ha, made me check real-estate prices in Kamloops area. 🤣
The price is not bad! 😁
FINE BUSINESS!!! (A little bit fishy!!!)CHEERS from Sunny Sooke!
Thanks!
Those were some beautiful rainbows! What type of line were you using when stripping the leeches?

@@FishingwithRod Oh nice, I need to get something like that…I only have floating line and full sink.
Yeah you should, it's awesome. I don't have a full sink actually. I just take my spinning rod out when I need to fish deeper water haha...
Hey wait a minute, you didn’t say anything about the brook trout cooking that you were waiting for. 🤪
@@FishingwithRod I was expecting a Michelin star recipe, and only got salt and lemon pepper😜
What Flies where u using I went up there recently and caught water

@Fishing with Rod awesome cheers mate been watching your videos for about 5 yrs now keep it up
And also do you know where I can learn about the hatches in brand new to fly fishing and can't seem to catch anything because of this.

WOW! What weight fly rod are you using? Those trout are bending your pole into a horseshoe!

Hey rod, I’d love to see you tying some flies… great episode!!! 🎣🎣🎣
I think you’d enjoy it. 🍾

Good afternoon indeed. 😁
Can you do some chronomid fishing on a spin set up ?

Do you bleed your trout ?
Yes if I’m keeping them
Name of lake? Was there winter kill on this lake?
Yeah it suffered a kill this past winter unfortunately. Not sure if it was a complete or partial kill yet.
@@FishingwithRod obviously the kill was complete 😵💫😂🤣😂

Wow so the lake name is secret ? I smell bullshirt qnd WAS a subscriber....even talked to you at Berrys with Len and Mike
