"Jumping too much is a bad habit"
Kabal and kung lao mains: I have no idea what you're talking about
As a Kung Lao main I agree lol
It's bird lao lol
Pretty much any character honestly, jump ins are too damn good in this game
As a kabal main i can definitely say That's True lol
Does not Geras also have a teleport?
Lesson #1: You dont play to win. You play to get better.
Wrong
@@grizzmoses7472 no you.
I just want to punch people.
why not both?
@@asthmanaut3430 because getting better will give you more probability to win
It’s funny how he said “Overhead combos” and had a clip of Kung Lao in the background
Agathor he has... jump kicks?
MoistenedPanini267 that’s not a combo
CDMKeeper yeah... thats kind of the joke, it’s the only overhead he has other than hops and jump in
Low poke is the most important thing when fighting. When you low poke, they'll start blocking while crouching. And then you can do whatever you want. Grab, Special Attack, even overheads. It's all about gaining control.👊
Also, if an opponent spams low poke, they usually go into throws, so be prepared to upper cut.
Damn you guys just helped me out alot
Kicktugo55 wow you helped
@@trillhimself Glad I could help
Yeah, until u try to leap and get uppercut 😂😂😂low poking and he backs up and far reach attack, that only work on rookies
MadDogg:Have fun playing fighting games
Toxic mortal kombat community:We gonna stop you right there
sadly true aha
But to fight and chat with some of those nice people that don't mind doing a session to teach you some tech ... also fighting game community
Yeah i know i met a lot nice people and we still play sometimes but you know what i mean
Toxic shit happens too often
@@YungWardog aye. I've been toxic myself tbh. Apologise after always but sometimes i want to blame others for my shortcomings lol.
Same shit here but now im that nice guy always when i got possibility cause some guys give me no choice
This was back when people said Johnny Cage was low tier, Johnny Cage main since day one, baby.
He's a very good character with fancy movement, he's my second main.
@@Catisthebest1288 everybody called him bottom tier when the game first dropped and for a few months
Fun fact: The last tip is everything I basically needed haha. Just don't give up, don't get frustrated and focus on the elements of the game, such as Frame data, combo learning and the other things you mentioned, which all can even be found in the ingame tutorial. So for the most part, I just came for the motivation xD Thanks for the video man
Yeah when i played For Honori got frustrated quickly and got depressed and quit the game . The game got really bad that's another reason i leaved the game
@@VergilEdits yeah I gave up cause it kinda became like DND duel where you're just getting bodied by people who've played the game for years plus alot of characters are dlc etc
@@VergilEditsyeah but for me for honor is much easier AND faster to learn and get good than Mortal Kombat
honorable mentions using your fatal blow too early, and not understanding your characters krushing blows
Ooo that is a good one that I think everybody makes. If I ever decided to make a video of common mistakes all players make this one will be added
Using fatal blows in combos is way safer too than just using it on intuition alone.
#9: Not Learning The Fundamentals
Tho I consider myself an experienced player I was curious if I was guilty of any of these. Only 1 I needed work with was defense meter. I never used get up attacks or rolls. But have been since the start of the new kombat league. "A man is never to old to learn"
True
Same dude. I finally learned how to getup attack, but i still don’t know how to activate armor midair
@@jesus-vf8wu why not use the tutorials
Me watching this video: ok cool
Him talking about frame data: Aight imma head out
That is the mentality and the mistake people make when learning. It’s why beginners won’t be able to get far. Does not even take a lot of brain power to understand it
MadDoggGames It does tho it’s hella confusing cause if I know my characters frame data I have to learn other opponents who I fight which means you basically have to know the moves to most of the characters in the game to know which frames match up
It all about practice, as long as you play this game, you'll be learning about every characters moves.
As a beginner, you only need to know what is punishable or not, if the atack says -8 or less (-9/10 etc...) on the block adv., it is punishable, if it is -6 or more (-5/4 etc...) it isn't.
When you get used to this, you wanna know what atack strings are plus, by plus, it means you can do a string, and then do another because it is still your turn to atack, and this becomes real handy as you progress in competitively. If the atack says 0 or more (1/2 etc...) it is plus, witch means if you time it right, you can do another string, and if your opponent falls for it, you get a full combo
I'm just hoping you understood all this xd, just trying to simplify.
Vrouslegacy you really did soz for being nooby lol thanks alot it really helped 😇🖤
SxperSav 17 all you have to know is if it’s safe (plus) or unsafe (negative) on block. It’s not hard at all. Don’t avoid it, it is important.
All 8 mistakes on this video were made by me.......
Poor you
@@plattv.2250 ikr? I was a full-on noob, now I'm at Level 66 and have almost every gear for the ninjas
@@suicidedeity me playing this game at the first time,i was always knowing what to do,thanks to my experience in Injustice 2.

Your exactly right about the character picking too soon. I've been trying to juggle 5 at once. Got my main down but still true. I practice my combos in time towers once I'm comfortable with it
I've been playing fighting games most of my life and this is one of the BEST general tips videos I've seen on RUclips. Fantastic work MadDog!
Frustrated is the one I have to work on I just wanna snap my dang controller half the time
Big facts!!!😂😂😂
At first I thought some of these seemed obvious but as I kept watching I have to say this is actually one of the only really helpful beginner advice videos ive seen and sometimes we forget what it was like as a novice/beginner player and roll our eyes when someone recommends avoiding obvious mistakes and flaws and or working them out of your game through practice and you can get so used to having certain bad habits in your game that limit your skill and ability and become automatic and sometimes you need to be reminded of them and have someone point them out and they can be extremely hard to unlearn and sometimes you can't entirely get rid of the effect that certain bad habits have on your game and are just too deeply embedded in your reflexes that ultimately ends up making you slower than someone who practiced the right way because even if you make the same moves as them you have to spend the extra time thinking about it or always having to think ahead making you really vulnerable to fast and unpredictable opponents and if they start to poke holes in your game plan and do something you weren't prepared for and even falline half a second behind in high level competitive Mk11 can cost you your entire life bar in less than five seconds and in a game like mk11 with competition so sweaty that being one frame late one time can lose you an entire match you simply cannot afford to fall behind or be anything other than faster than your opponent
Ive played fighting games for years now and I know what to expect. These sure are obvious but again, people tend to make the same mistakes over and over.
#9: not watching this great video
Hey I say thank you man I'm a fighting game junkie actually. But your video was actually very motivating because Mk11 has really been frustrating me lately since I've been trying to learn it. Your video really reminded me of the grind and how valuable that time is. It also pointed out alot of the mistakes that I was making. So thanks for the tips and keep up the good work by making these great videos!
One of the best videos I’ve seen on beginner tips. I’ve watched every video that you have made. Some of them 4-5 times: you have one of if not the best channel for MK11 on RUclips. Please keep doing them and continue all your series as they go!!:) I love the combos of each character showing the bread and butter combo, the fatal and krushing blow combos and corner combos. I love the tips and tricks for each one at the end of the main video!!! Keep it up :)
Oh and your videos are insightful. You have a 'teacher' feel about you in the videos. So I've subscribed and look forward to more beginners videos!
1:45 - I actually have to mash super fast on sequence, since looking for a visual cue will just make me too slow and therefore miss the combo window
9:15 tell that to my anger issues
Like 5 minutes after watching this video I immediately noticed improvement
While I'm not a new player, I was curious about this video. Great job with it. Excellent advice, and as a bonus, you werent condescending toward new players.
Really good video. Great breakdown of basic game elements. Thanks!
I can't believe I didn't find you during the first year of this game. Thank you for making this great content! Me and my wife very much enjoy your videos.
This video finally got monitzed! For not being monitized, this video was put under the radar. No suggested, or recommended as well as going to sub boxes. Please SHARE and LIKE this video if you enjoyed and learn something new. Lets get this video active and spread around youtube! For more videos like these, it will mean alot to LIKE and COMMNET on it! Thanks!
What monetized?
I greatly appreciate this video it has helped me tremendously the only thing I have problems with is wavedashing if you have a video on that please add the link thanks in advance
Its demonitized
Watched this video couple of months before I now started my MK11 journey and I'm actually following everything mentioned here especially not mashing! I still have a lot to go but it gives me so much joy to pull of a 2 bar Noob Saibot combo even if I lose. Defense, zoning & punish is probably the hardest things btw...
When I was a beginner, I too used Icy bois axe
Mk is my first love, it introduced me to fighting games. I had SF first but MK took me to another level in the 92. I used to know ever combo and finisher lol. I'm older now and finding time to practice is hard. I just opened MK11 and I'm dedicated. It's fun learning this again. Thanks for the tips.
Same here 👍🏾
Great video! Im a new player and Ive been struggling with inputs recently but this video helped me realize that it’s not always effective to just go for the same combo over and over😅
Wow did you take a psychology coarse in MK. Well done sir. I’ve had most of those bad habits in MK 9. Eye 👁 opener!
Thank you for making this video. I got into Mortal Kombat recently and have been struggling with kombos, as well as jumping..which is slightly hard on controller-at least for me. Thisll hopefully help me out.
I've signed in just to like your video and subscribe because it was really helpful especially the getting frustrated part, thanks budd for boosting my mood up.
Awesome, thank you!
Thank you for taking your time to make this types of videos, they help out so much :) You just earned a new sub
Awesome, glad you enjoyed it
Thanks man I needed this
loved the video man, thanks!
New subscriber: I can dig this video. #8 is a fact, a lot of people mash in mk11, which is why they lose . Mk11 is very strict with its frames. Hopefully these new mk11 players watch this video to help them improve their skills. Thanks for making this vid buddy. Keep it coming.
I love you man, your narration is epic. ❤️
Well done buddy... well done! Very helpful video
I love the advice on not taking it too serious and that of course one has to win and one has to loose . But it's the fun you have that matters . Most of my friends get really angry when they loose a match online and complain about how the person is fighting but I tell them hey he's also doing what he has to do to win and it's his right
Thanks for helping with this.
Just jumped back into MK after last playing MK Trilogy. This video was a massive help.
Keep up the good work.
Glad I could help!
This video pulled me back to the days when I was little and got to play my first fighter, back then it was Tekken 3.
There was nobody doing more U4 spins with Jin than me. Oh man, those were the days.
Thanks man. After I watched your videos, I don't mashing alot like a first time anymore. Combo and special moves easier to execute now, but sometimes I accidentally mashed but still minimal than before lol. I was like mashing and hoping the best I'll win 😂
Bought this after the recent Steam Sale. It's been fun losing and learning at the same time. It's ecstatic when your improvement becomes visible.
Very good videos. Even as an advanced player, I can appreciate how thorough your explanations are. Well done!
Hello. I am glad I came across your channel. I haven't play MK since the 1990's. I am just starting again today playing MK11. It's so different to what I remember. Any tips are going to be super helpful.
Another mistake I noticed making is waking up with up 2 getup attack, instead of up 3. I did not know that only up 3 was invulnerable. And that's why I constantly get punished
This is definitely a well thought out list but some things I would change, definitely not an expert myself but I have my fair share of hours on this game plus know how to play with all characters fairly well. Still good video and love the tips
Thx so much for this video, i can finally patch up my gameplay flaws.
No problem 👍
Thank you for the content it was very helpful and informative
My pleasure!
Thank you so much, this will really help me a lot. I’m trying to practice using Sub-Zero.
Well done. Very impressive.
I know how to play fighting game but i like watching videos like this #4 is a really good point, too many people pick a character just because they are top tier. They dont like using them but they pick them just to win.
Well there are some games were the top tier is actually OP. Example: Pet Shop from JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Heritage for the future
Great pieces of information.
Glad it was helpful!
The not getting frustrated is probably the best tip for new players and not giving up that is not brought up as much as it should be
thanks for the help :D
Fantastic video bro.
Thanks dude
Great video! Great advise
Glad you enjoyed it!
I've had this since last October and I've never tried doing kombos and things so imma watch loads of videos and hopefully get good
Good video really good 👌👌👌👍
Had mk11 since it came out, played it, beat it, and now just went back to it cause of the movie coming out, and im learning the game all over again
All of your Melina videos i learn yesterday couldn't do all on my friend online need to practice and block more
Very good tips yes sir!
Glad it was helpful!
Good stuff. Frame data is the biggest mind fuck for me too. I think I understand but I cant explain it with confidence. Like how do you know when its "your turn" or not. Or how do you know what's safe or not. What are the prerequisites for being "safe" or " unsafe"
Thank you! Greetz from Germany
I took all the day yesterday watching your Melina videos learning them trained for 6 hours thats how u train people not just get the game and go straight online
Absolutely agree on this one learning a character for a while really helps
i remember playing Mortal Kombat vs Dc Universe n the 36p with my brother and when i tell you button mashing was the only thing i knew it was bad lmao
Like commented and subscribed before you asked me to. Great video, awesome kontent.
Awesome, thank you!
I was watching the MK11 Interkontinental Tournament matches yesterday, and they all jumped, like, a LOT. Constantly and all the time, usually with a high punch attack, kinda like the old days in the UMK3/MKT days.
Nice vid
Thanks for the video , now that i know I Challenge you !!! 🤣
Thanks For The Tips
No problem!
thanks for this video! i recently got mk11 and im still getting used to the mechanics as the last game i played was UMK3 on Nintendo DS
Glad I could help!
Just bought the aftermath kollection. Needed this to pop up.
This is a dope video
Thanks
Just bought MK11 last week and I felt so lost bro 😅 your video it's just a blessing bro, by the way the last fighting game I played was Power Instinct: Matrimelee xD on 2003 ROFL
But Matrimelee is such a awesome game! :D
The last fighting game I played was MK2 and that was in 1996 imagine how I feel 😂😂
Love ur video..jux realised my mistake
Hi bro, thank you so much for the useful info. I just want to ask you how did you made your character selecting screen like this 08:22?
Goddammit, this video is very motivational!
Amazing video
thank you for watching!
Great video
xd xsdd thanks I appreciate the nice comment
All of this is so accurate
I gave up on tekken that's why i moved on to mk but after your tips i m gonna stick to kazuya and practice those hard ewgf combos.
💯💯💯💯💯💯💯this is simply awesome
Nice
Thanks sernandoe.
I knew all these but this explained it better than i ever could
Thanks, I try my best in finding the best way
very well said
thank you
Kombo in practice mode only reminds me of Bloodsport where the muscular asian guy tells Van Damme, "very good, but brick no hit back!" After seeing van damme smash a brick with his bare hands ...lol
I remember when I first got the game I never really liked learning the frame data I never understood it but it really does improve your skill in this game and its not that hard to understand at least I think.
I played the game so much when it release and the suddenly stopped cuz of my studies. I left a few days before Sindel came out and returned after joker for a week and then now playing consistently after spawn's release and I honestly needed this cuz I'm a complete noob rn
Thanks
Love the music
What amazes me about fighting games is how people can remember and precisely input special moves and combos like it's nothing. I can remember maybe 1-3 moves for each character at a time lol. God forbid I actually correctly input them without jumping or punching in between.
that's just something you have to get used to. i just started playing like barely a week ago and i thought i would never memorize any moves but you kinda just have to keep using the character to get the hang of it. going into practice mode and repeating moves and combos on the still ai helped me get the rhythm and order of everything down. unlike what the dude said in the vid, i was able to do exactly what i did in practice mode in online matches. just keep playing, you'll figure it out lol
@@iayolai9881 yea hopefully at some point lol. Ive only been playing for about a week too. I'm definitely getting better just need to get more precise.
One thing I always had trouble with was chaining combos, now I’m not adept at fighting games I’m more of a jack all trades gamer I play anything from your basic FPS to advanced FPS games, adventure RPG games, MMO’s with click style fighting like Warcraft or combo style games like Black Desert, and so on. I do wanna “git gud” at this game but in the moment I just press random combinations and see it happen and then I kinda memorize what combos are what. Edit: I have a lot of respect for players who thrive in fighting games, it’s like folks who can run through raids on WoW easily because they got the math and combos down. CoD and other shooters are so much easier to learn and even racing games like Forza at high difficulties
Thank you MadDoggGames
2:48 don’t forget jumping also helps with your combos.
