I still genuinely believe that olight makes great products. However, if their methodology does not revert back to the way they were doing things in the past as it relates to sales, I probably won't be doing many more olight reviews.

I agree, Olight's new strategy does not really make much sense to me. After not having a sale for a couple months, this sale just seems lackluster. Thanks Dom.
Dam thats a nice sleek design on the multi tool i was hoping it was an actual multi tool. And the knifes design is perfect - classic, but the price sucks, it should come in a budget version. They knocked it out of the park with taking and improving on the mini sailor multi tool
Not sure if anyone has suggested this before, but you can significantly silence the jangling of your keyring by adding some heat-shrink to the split rings. Very easy and efficient way to reduce metal-metal contact.
I know thats not related to this video at all but I thought you might like to try it out in a future video :)

I think the Otacle bali would've been much more compelling if they went all in on the flip-ability, i.e make it 4.5 inches long, run on bushings, and remove the magnets because magnets absolutely suck for flipping. That way, it'd be a relatively cheap (in the world of Balisongs) trainer with some extra functionality.

Though im not happy with the price of the rubato 4 i still bought it because i love the design and size. Feel like it would of been received alot better if they released it with g10 scales and nested liners for $30 cheaper…

If the butterfly tool were stainless steel and a 3rd price, then maybe, but It's so pretty and fancy and calling to my love of multitool oddities. (°ー°')

Great review, as always. However, this sale from Olight is VERY underwhelming. And these two items are just meh.
It was a disaster
@@maxlvledc Honestly, I was ready to get a Baton 4 system and a Perun for travel use. But not at full price given the marketplace. But this offering was just too much of a turnoff. It's a shame because Olight makes good stuff.
Knife way too expensive even on sale
Sorry, $90 is not good for this knife when I can get better knives at half that price. Materials do not make a knife, it's how those materials are processed, handled, hardened, etc.. We have become complacent and accept mediocrity at a high price point because of marketing strategies intending to make us believe the sum of the materials justify the price. You can take great materials and build junk. It happens everyday.
The Civivi Vexillum comes in around the same price and is a bigger and better knife.

Really ? So 440c is as good as M390 ? And nobody pays a premium for a gold filigreed handle over injection molded plastic ?
I agree though that despite how pretty and durable it is. Ultem is still a thermoplastic and not a valuable material based on scarcity.
It is however a much more practical edc than a fidget multitool balisong lol
@edwardfletcher7790 to be fair, you are misquoting and misinterpreting what he said. You have "materials don't matter" in quotes, when what he said was "materials do not make a knife... " I think his point was not that materials mean nothing, but rather that there are more important considerations that go into making a decent knife.
I doubt he would disagree about M390 being better than 440C, but you can have lesser materials make a better knife if constructed properly. For example, you can have one knife made of S35VN and another with Magnacut. If the S35VN knife has good geometry and is heat-treated properly and the Magnacut isn't, the S35VN knife will be better. I believe this is the point he was trying to make.
What's an example of a better knife for $45? And what makes you so sure this knife is "processed, handled or hardened" incorrectly, or worse than the competition? Has Kizer been known to do s35vn badly or something?
It's absolutely true that materials, especially blade steels, don't guarantee quality. I'm not necessarily disagreeing with you, I'd just like to see something more specific to back up the vague statements.
@joshstarkey8883 these are not vague statements. If you are interested in specific model/steel comparisons, I would suggest going over to Neeves Knives, where Jerad (who is much more knowledgeable than I) has provided such examples. I believe my S35VN/Magnacut example was taken from one of his videos. I wish I could remember the title of the vid, but I saw it about a month or two ago.
UPDATE: I think the video might have been titled "My 5 Favorite Blade Steels", or something similar.
Olight has gotten way too expensive for the quality and features. All gimmick now.
Bounce that knife against the Vosteed Raccoon...not sure it's worth the extra cash...🤔
