My teacher long ago said always wear your strap because if you have to get up quickly the guitar stays with you and does not fall on the floor. So now I have 2 straps one shorter for sitting and one for standing.
I know that this was posted 1 year ago but fun story: Few days ago, I was playing my strat while sitting down and I had to quickly get up and my guitar fell. It broke one of my tuners and my cable, I now *always* wear a strap
Great video! Extremely informative. I'm a longtime player and I picked up a few things I'd never noticed or considered! (The bridge position differences relative to your picking/strumming hand).
Super helpful, thanks, also really insightful to see them on a larger and smaller frame. I couldn't help but wonder who the unseen assistant was too, since it was such a direct to camera style video, so it was cool from a viewing perspective that broke that wall and switched places :)
Im Glad you had the woman demonstrate that different people get different results. As you first began with the tele and strat I picked up 4 of my les Paul's and got the same results that woman got. All 4 of them sat nice and steady on my lap, my strat did not however. The most comfortable lap guitar I have is an Ibanez Iceman. I dont see why the belly cutout matters though. I guess if you lean over top of your guitar it could help but it doesnt matter to me.
You need to do one standing with a strap. Most of the time when on stage one is standing. My SG is fine when sitting and has terrible neck dive when standing.
I'm thinking about playing my Les Paul style body on the other leg. The fat bottom end stays in place better in the lap than off the side of your leg. Also, a strap would fix the majority of issues.
something to also be aware of for a new guitarist is the upper horn - some of these horns can poke into the upper body too much - les pauls would remedy that issue
I prefer my strat or tele shapes for playing sitting down. The worst guitar I've ever played sitting down is a Brian May Special. The waist / cut-out is too close to the neck. That combined with a short 24" scale, and short neck, makes it quite quirky and unfriendly. I'm watching this video, as I was thinking about getting a les paul shape for studio recording use, but now I'm less likely to.
Just bought my first Les Paul style guitar, a Harley Benton SC-550, it looks and sounds great, but is pretty horrible to sit and play with. I guess I will only buy future Les Paul for the looks :p
Thanks! I've been looking for this review.

Good idea

I guess you never know when a spontaneous game of musical chairs might break out.

I play on the other leg have you noticed much difference there
I know several players that play on the other leg, but to be honest I have never even tried it.

Honestly great video
Good points also it depends on if your legs are small or big on how they balance as well
Thanks, man! Amazing.

This is AMAZING VIDEO EVER!!!!!!
The Gibson Explorer has lovely balance.
Would have been nice to show a semi hollow like a 335 or hollow like the casino. Nice video.

Les Paul's also sit lower on the lap - making the fret board lower

Could you tell me how much your Les Paul weighs?
I have a very hefty one with over 10 lbs. and have the same problem with the dysbalance while sitting. I wonder if it’s the same with lighter ones?
@@sygis21 put the strap even while sitting down.

Thats why you need to put the strap even while sitting down. Its more easier if you put it.
strat always fall off still comforatible if you can get it to stay
Εβαλα ζωνη και ησυχασα ..! i put strap (belt) and all ok !
