A lot of usefull information in 15 minutes! Good job.
Great video, very insightful and helpful. I've learned several of these lessons the hard way, LOL.
Awesome video I learned a lot I’m installing double humbucker zebra pickups on my les Paul which had the silver doubles on it
Amazing information. Thanks so much for sharing mate.
great job, thank you so much, I'm trying to by pick ups for my sheap chipson gold top. trying to learn what to look for.
Great info! Thanks for sharing!
I have a normal humbucker on the bridge of my guitar (53mm string spacing). I do not perceive an audible difference beetwen a normal fretted note compared to a bended one (the bended note is supposed to have more volume because it in theory is near the pole piece).
Thanks for the heads-up.
So if you wanna change your pickups better have a Deremel tool. A bit expensive, my advice is you take the guitar to a Guitar Tech or luthier and have It changed and while he is working on your guitar he can perrform a nice setup. If you don´t have a lot of guitars that is my advice.
Thank so much for this video
Hi. I have discovered that some pickups with adjustable polescrews doesnt work, they want go up or down when trying to adjust them! Also very enoying! Nolan
Question when buying used pickups does it matter is the wires are on the shorter side. How long should I want them to be when buying used.
The F spacing... is that mostly for the bridge pickup on a Fender? Because from my experience the bridge width is much wider than the nut width (spacing between strings). None of my strats have strings running directly over pole pieces on all three SSS pickups.
My Gibson 335 Knock off came with humbuckers. The bridge output is 9.95 and neck output is 11.83. Can I switch or reverse the two around and would the North/South windings direction matter?
The little quick connects Gibson and other companies are using are called Molex connectors, very easy to find at component suppliers. For the tinkerer who is changing pickups a lot I'd say fitting a harness with those is a great idea. Eventually I think we'll see them become common in male and female 4 pin pairs anywhere that sells pots and switches for guitars.
I have a seymor Duncan pickup with a standard baseplate, but my guitar pickup have a baseplate with edges. How can i fix this? Can I “cut” the seymor Duncan baseplate edges?
very informative do you take in work a private business of your own?
You forgot to mention that some Stratocaster pickups are differently spaced. Middle pickup is slightly wider than the neck & the bridge is even wider than the middle.
Thanks!!
@Two Beers This is interesting. Fender bridge width is wider than nut width. The F spacing... is that mostly for the bridge pickup on a Fender? Because from my experience the bridge width is much wider than the nut width (spacing between strings). None of my strats have strings running directly over pole pieces on all three SSS pickups.
@@Tone-Oz Hi thats because the bridge pickup in a strat or Tele is mounted at an angle from the rest of the pickups, so they have to compensate for that, so bridge pickup some not every one is a bit larger than the rest, hope this helps.
@@gerardoromano3436 thanks for that. It makes sense 😃
You and another youtuber mention strings don't have to be placed directly above pole pieces. It doesn't effect or has very little effect on sound. So using F spaced or normal humbucker is fine on a tremolo equipped guitar. But, other on a forum say it is affecting the sound. When I check guitar website, eq ESP, they always use trembucker for tremolo equipped guitar and normal one for non-tremolo guitar. I'm so confuse by this phenomenon.
How would you install a humbucker into a strat like the one in the video that has two screws on one side? Most humbuckers have one screw on each side.
You can either drill a third hole between the two existing ones, or buy a new pickguard if the look of those empty holes bothers you.
Wait what strat was that? I have a hohner headless guitar and it has 3 adjustment screws just like that humbucker but i cant find any pickups with 3 mounting holes
A lot of American made Fender humbuckers have the 3 screw holes.
If you have a pickup with 2 separate conductors, twist the pairs together at least 2 twists per inch to cancel hum being induced & picked up by the wiring.
I read that SD Trembuckers have wider pickup bobbins than thier standard humbucker, to accomodate the F-spaced pole pieces. However, DiMarzio ( and some others) have the same bobbin width for both F- and standard spaced pickups. I know its true for SD pickups because I've used their Trembuckers, but have not used F-spaced DiMarzio's.
Sometime the depth of a Strat pickup might be more than can be accomodated by the body pickup route. Example, Fender Hot Noiseless pickups are very tall/deep, and might not work well in a body with shallow pickup routes, causing it to stand much taller above the pickguard that it should.
GEORGE LYNCH PU! NICE!
8:30 "I guess Fender spaced..." What R U talkin' 'bout? It means Fuckin' spaced Out dude.
This is why they invented routers, files, and Dremel tools. Big deal!
I think, if I was buying a replacement pickup for my *name-of-expensive-guitar-here*, I'd want to get one that didn't require routers, files, and Dremel tools.

Most are overpriced. Humbuckers. Just spend $20 on other magnets like Alnico, the rest is pretty same same. Bobbins, wire, pole pieces.
