I love that Carmilla is not only protective of her daughters but also of Zestial as well. It really goes to show that they really trust each other and have a long history if he is considered part of her family. Zestial was even surprised to hear her say that when she looked at him and I genuinely think it's just sweet how big of a heart Carmilla has despite being an overlord who develops weapons. She even didn’t want to start a war with heaven because she knew the consequences would be many sinners throwing their lives away for a losing battle thanks to misplaced confidence.
Yeah, shes definitely one to keep her guard up and act tough until she's around people she trusts. Then those walls come down showing how vulnerable she can really be. Like when Zestial asked her to tell, she did. When Vaggie came to her, she opened the door quickly and theatened to silence her forever if she didnt convince her other wise. And we all know she could have. She has the means and the motivation to keep the secret safe. But once Vaggie earned her trust and that she genuinely wanted to learn to protect the hotel,l and those in it, you could see the change in how Carmila interacted with Vaggie, she lets her guard down just before vaggie jumps over and gets new wings, you can see the shock in Carmilas face. Its a very interesting way to write a character.
There’s so much to unpack in this song, the fact that Zestiel bows to her as a mark of respect, her holding her daughters as she belts out her lines, the way she looks as Zestiel as she does so to show that even if there was a chance her daughters would get hurt she would never take the chance. What a scene!
You know at first I kept finding it weird how a lot of overlords seemed to be rather chill and almost nice individuals from some of the interactions we've seen, but I think I get it. Most of them have been in hell for so long that they've probably just mellowed out over time, Zestial having been around the longest no doubt explains his polite behavior, he's seen it all and simply chilled out because of it.
It also makes sense, you're there for eternity. Might as well make it a bit more comfortable. Overlords being chill towards eachother means they don't have to be as paranoid. And a trigger-happy maniac won't get nearly as far as someone who can work with others towards mutual benefit.
The ones we see at that meeting are also all the most powerful ones. They are all the kingpins of their own territories, yeah? And they all have a lot more to lose by infighting and more to gain by consolidating power and uniting against upstarts and new sinners who threaten their power. They're chill because they're the peak of the power dynamic. That's why the Vees are not nearly as chill. They're still fighting for a place at that big table. They may be the "new money", but this meeting was the "old money". I would imagine they act much differently around others that are not at their level.
It's easy to be chill when you are at the top of the mountain. Don't get it twisted. The horrid things you see Valentino do to Angel dust, ALL OF THEM are or have done the same things to others. It's why they are Top Dogs.
@@Watcher8559 Well to be fair we don't know they're all THAT level of fucked up evil cocksucker. Val's shit relates to his job within the Vees. Would he be a fuckin rapey creep without them? Yeah but likely with less influence. They all essentially trap and control souls, yes, but what they do with them varies. Alastor uses his for a lot of menial labor lol. For all we know, Camilla may have the soul count she does because she defends and protects those under her influence rather than abuses them. Zestial may allow his to live normal afterlives, like a farmer tending a herd, until it's dinnertime. (He eats souls, I heard.) Yeah they're all powerful Sinners, but that doesn't make them all scum of the earth moths lol.
I wonder if the reason Carmilla could kill the excorsist was because despite now being a demon she did it for a ‘holy’ reason- protecting her family, rather then just for herself or out spite/negativity
I’ve seen a few people say this now and I think it’s an interesting idea, I hope we get more info on exactly how she killed it. I’ve also heard people say that it might have been one of the Angelic Weapons introduced in Helluva Boss, which were named dropped as being produced by Carmela.
During the past exterminations, demons collected many angelic weapons, and Carmilla markets items obtained with them (see the "Carmine-Crafted Blessing-Tipped Rifles" seen in Helluva Boss, the only ones in Hell able to kill sinners and high ranking demons). It's possible they are able to kill angels as well. That's why Velvet immediately pointed to her.
Nah, you don't need special weapon or power to kill angel. Sinner and overlord just normaly didn't fight back. Overlords want to avoid war and normal sinners were too weak to win against a angel.
@@HoaTruong-km9rkI doubt that. Look goetia like stolas are more powerful than overlords and yet we saw with some tools how he was easily defeated by striker and IMP who has no powers, just fighting skills.

@8eyes It's a weird sort of hypocrisy on Carmilla's part. She's a weapons dealer who has actively profited from the angelic weapons left after each extermination. Her weapons fuel the endless turf wars and killing of powerful overlords and demons. This seems kind of a weird line to draw, except she'd hardly be the first human to have a change of heart when confronted with the possibility of direct consequences of their previous actions.
This song hits very deep. She did what she did to protect her children, but also expresses fear if she told the truth. In real life, the truth goes both ways: for best or for worse. In this case, she fears the truth will be for the worse for everyone in Hell and lying doesnt help it either given what happened with a shorter time til the next Extermination Day. She only have very few people who really cares about her: her children and Zestial, and a potential war if the truth came out would be too much for her to the point that she'll lose everyone she cares the most.
I also have a sneaking suspicion that some of that fear may be because she honestly doesn't know *how* she killed it. The leading theory seems to be that the only reason she was able to was because she was doing so to protect her daughters, out of love and selfless sense of protection. Many in Hell would not be able to harness that same power, even if she was able to articulate how she killed the Angel.
@@afrina_29Stephanie aka Vaggie VA lowers her voice when speaking as Vaggie because it suits Vaggie better. Her normal voice actually sounds higher pitched like her singing voice.
Judging by Carmilla's reaction to Zestial's hand on her shoulder, I'm guessing that such an act is unheard of from him. For him to make such a gentle, concerned physical contact with her speaks volumes of how much he values her friendship as a person.
Well zestial is one of the oldest overlords in hell to date and the oldest current ruling overlord to date there were probably other overlords just as old as zestial but we’re quickly dispensed with by alastor. So he’s had a pretty long time to think things over and have valuable advice and wisdom. That and Carmilla’s the only one zestial can really trust and count on as a friend and ally and vice versa with Carmilla. But I bet zestial doesn’t show this soft side of his to often.
Did anybody else got a little emotional while listening to Camilla's singing to protect her daughters? I did a little bit, cuz it reminded me of my mother, who died back in June 2022 from stage 4 lung cancer. I miss her everyday. 😭😢❤ A mother would do anything to keep her children safe. 💗👩👧👧
I can't stop remembering my mother every time I see Carmilla, a mother who tries her best beyond the limit to protect those she loves! Vivie earned my respect for having created great characters that we can identify with!
Carmilla and Vaggie's voices are absolutely beautiful during this song, and what I like most is that even though they're in different situations, the two of them are basically singing to the people they care about, saying that they'll protect them no matter what.

The fact that Zestial is compassionate about Carmilla and her problems makes Zestial my favorite Overlord 😊😊 Edit: NO WAY!! I didn't realize that I have so many likes in this comment, thank you guys💗💗
I feel like Zestial is compassionate because he's been through the pain and problems that most of the overlords that came after him are currently facing, if looking at all the screen time he's been in. He's been nothing but nice or respectful to all the other overlords, even not stooping to Velvette's level when she practically insulted him directly in his face! it actually wouldn't be entirely too surprising if Zestial was actually the very first overlord to exist in hell. Thus knowing entirely what the consequences could be if everyone were to just suddenly rise against the angels in an abrupt manner without knowing exactly what can or can't harm the angels first. Really just gives off fatherly/elderly/mentor vibes.
@@Free_Flowing_Anxietyrather this second option, the first overlord would be more likely a Cain - son of Adam and first murderer or Eve as first sinner
"I might lose the ones that I was killing for" What a powerful line! They really went all out with the songs, I actually did not expect them to turn out this good!
The thing I love about this song is that even though it is Vaggie and Carmilla singing, it begins with the Oldest and Wisest Overlord offering an ear. The fact that Carmilla holds Zestiel in such high esteem that she's willing to be vulnerable and share her weakness (her daughters) with him shows how deep their bond and their trust runs. What's more, is it's clearly a very loving bond, and one Zestiel is not unaccustom to. As old as he is, he must have seen dozens of overlords, and friends, rise and fall so now he is willing to do "whatever it takes" to keep them safe, as shown by his caution in that meeting. EDIT: OMG Something I just noticed! The tea set Carmilla has on her desk matches the cup Zestiel used at the meeting. And there's only three cups on the desk, one for her and her two daughters. Is that like saying he always has a seat at her table?
I still wonder if he has ulterior motives, as it seems to me like he respects power and those who aren't afraid of using it. He bowed to Carmilla while discussing the possibility that she was capable of killing an exorcist, and it also seemed like he was implicitly threatening Alastor when he was questioning Alastor's involvement in the Hazbin Hotel. It's entirely possible that he's simply just formed a bond with Carmilla though
@@xryeau_1760I don’t know. You would have to think that Zestial is stupid powerful, almost prince of sin levels even, if even Alastor respects him. I think he’s more reserved since he didn’t off Velvette on the spot for her brazen, yet popping display, when he very well could have
There’s certainly merit to this, but on a pragmatic level her secret is already in jeopardy - Velvette has all but accused Carmilla of slaying the angel and suspicion abounds: she needs allies with her in case the worst happens - and in this case she made an ally of a trusted friend and partner-in-crime who likely has a lot of experience dealing with intrigue like this. It’s not just an emotionally-valid move - it’s also smart.

@FinnSkidmore she had to stop doing roles like this for awhile because Rent did a number on her voice iirc! but she's a total powerhouse and I'm so glad for more
@medd-lee RENT did a number on everyone's voice in the original cast. But Daphne and Adam and Idina definitely had the hardest vocal ranges to consistently sing healthily.
The nuts thing is this song literally made me think deeply on the concept of hell, spending forever in a place without being able to redeem yourself is a crazy concept
The friendship between Carmilla and Zestial is amazing. The oldest and imo most powerful overlord being a godparent like figure to her daughters is a wholesome thought.
I don’t know if he’s the most powerful (Alastor could probably give him some competition there), but he is certainly no pushover and there aren’t too many demons in Hell that can match him in raw power - I’d say that he ranks on the top twenty list for certain.

This whole song is pretty, the line "I might lose the ones I was killing for" is especially so powerful, thanks to Carmilla's VA's amazing delivery and the leadup. I keep getting chills at that part every time I listen.
After watching Episode 6, Vaggie's words such as "But there's so much I wished that I could say" hits even harder knowing through what she has went through
Carmilla is also singing that she’ll keep Zestial safe. The way she defends him in Respectless as well shows how deep their friendship is. Maybe they’re a couple? I wouldn’t hate it.
If that ends up being the case that she could kill the Angel cuz she was doing it to protect her daughters, that might just end up making the Hazbin Hotel a massive danger zone for any angel. Should the hotel succeed in at least giving sinners empathy and selflessness they'll be able to slay angels that try to harm their friends/families who might also reside in said hotel too. I don't see Charlie succeeding in reforming anyone in 6 months, but I do see her at least creating the only place in hell where Demons can kill or push back exorcists, while other places, such as VVV would be absolutely destroyed cuz of their own selfish and prideful desire for expansion
Such a beautiful song. The emotion of fear and love of those the two characters love shed greatly. Honestly one of my new favorite songs. Not to mention that the arrangement reminds me of rock music from the late 90s and early 00s.
I ship them SO much! If you really look when they interact both here and at the meeting they look softly at one another and defend each other. Like it’s the subtlety. Carmilla is smiling when Zestial sits down at the meeting. Zestial sings to her to comfort her and even bows in respect when he mentions her killing the angel in the song… Even Hazbin Hotel official was asking for shipping name ideas for these two! My two favorite non main characters!
I really hope some of the overlords end up at the Hotel, either visiting or as actual guest trying to be redeemed. Also because i just want to see how Charlie would interact with someone like Zestial or Carmilla.
This song legit sent shivers through me. Carmilla kicked me right in the feel's with those notes by the gods. Vestial and Carmilla together so briefly but you can feel how close they are.
I want to sing Vaggie’s part to my husband on our wedding day. I vow to be his armour. To make his dreams come true and to support him no matter what. He’s saved my life more than once. ❤
You can see the shock in Carmilla’s eyes as zestial puts his hand on her shoulder to provide comfort. This is probably one of the very few times zestial has ever shown kindness and sympathy towards a dear friend hence Carmilla being surprised. Remember as one of hells oldest living and most current ruling powerful overlords zestial has to set that nasty example to all to show who’s top dog and that you don’t wanna mess with me. But he shows this rare soft side of his in private because if anyone knew about his softness then other overlords and demons can easily over throw him as overlord thinking that he was to weak and hell needs a new nasty overlord ruling.
"Mom could you sing that again but with all the words this time?" Carmilla:I would but,- Vaggie on the other side of the city: too busy plotting a defense!
I love the thousand yard stare of unprocessed, fresh, trauma, transitioning into anger and hate, during the "when that... thing... attacked..." from Carmilla. The details and insights put into the animation and, in this case, lyrics, in this series is astounding.

I love how Carmine looks at Zestial at the part "I'll keep you safe," and he totally misses she is including him in those she has to love and protect lol. Too cute.
this song really reminds me of Dear Theodosia from Hamilton. The themes are similar (doing what it takes to protect your children/the one you love), the words are similar ("I'll do whatever it takes / I'll make a million mistakes"), there are even shared melodic motifs

Personal headcanon, Zestial is actually really similar to either Carmilla's brother or the Cartel's second in command (I headcanon that Carmilla married into a cartel speciallising in weaponry after having a ballet career). She has strong platonic feelings towards him, but i also think Zestial helped her get established in hell and thereby protect her daughter's.(I think they arrived together after being killed by a rival gang)
At 2:30 I got chills from the “And I” part Vaggie was singing and it does sound similar to that lyric line “Make up your mind” from that evanescence song “Call Me When You're Sober.” Honestly Vaggie has a sweet rocking voice and a total baddie. 🖤❤️
This is probably my current hyperfixation on the Zestmilla ship talking, but as much as I LOVE this song, part of me wishes Vaggie had had her own song in another episode and have this one be a duet just between Carmilla and Zestial, with Carmilla confessing to killing the angel, her reasons etc and Zestial comforting and reassuring her, maybe that could still happen though? Either way Zestmilla needs more screen time and hopefully a duet of their own at some point
I wish this was a Zestial and Camilla duet. I just think that as Vaggie has nothing to do with Camilla and her situation isn't even similar to hers, there is no reason for her to sing with Camilla. Plus, Zestial's part was the best part of this song, I wish he had more lines.
Yeah, I absolutely love Vaggie, but its like “I killed an angel to protect my daughters and I’m keeping it a secret so Hell doesn’t go to war” vs “I wanna protect my (already powerful) partner and be good to her”. Both of their wants and motivations are good, but they are not equivalent…also the duet sparked some interesting theories online that Vaggie was also a Carmine (which other than basic color pallet, they don’t look alike, like, at all) which I really don’t like.
@@Potatoesop Tell me about it. Also, it was confirmed that Vaggie died in 2014 and Carmilla seems to have been in power for long time. Even Zestial refers her as "old friend."
As others commenters have mentioned, it does make sense to pair Vaggie and Carmilla together, considering how they're both moved, in their actions and decisions, by their love towards someone. There might also be other reasons that explain this pairing, of which we still don't know about, but their shared, powerful sentiment makes complete sense to me, at least.
@benzelwasington4059 she and her daughters do seem very comfortable around him. Which is strange given that even Alastor is visibly uncomfortable seeing Zestial

Interesting fact about Carmilla's daughter there named Oddette and Clara. Both are also the first names of female ballet protagonists who are transformed by an evil entity. Odette being the Swan princess of Swan Lake and Clara the protagonist of the Nutcracker. Makes me think that maybe Carmilla was a retired ballerina who may have married a mob boss or cartel leader. I will say i think she didn't realise who she married until she was pregnant though.

Zestial and Carmilla must go a long way back for Carmilla to hold Zestial in such high regards
Zestial’s part at the beginning was just superb
They are in hell so they must have done some fuck shit. I think zestial might been in hell for blasphemy.
"I know I can't replace you so I'll do anything to save you" such a powerful line
Overlords want to avoid war and normal sinners were too weak to win against a angel.
that's actually very interesting

@@8eyes She literally said she's afraid if war broke out she'd lose them anyways.
Lyrics my guy.
After tonight, the line stranger in a brand new place hit so differently
fr fr

It seems Alastor and him have mutual respect for each other
I feel like Zestial is compassionate because he's been through the pain and problems that most of the overlords that came after him are currently facing, if looking at all the screen time he's been in.

"I might lose the ones that I was killing for"
What a powerful line!

I don’t know if he’s the most powerful (Alastor could probably give him some competition there), but he is certainly no pushover and there aren’t too many demons in Hell that can match him in raw power - I’d say that he ranks on the top twenty list for certain.

Remember as one of hells oldest living and most current ruling powerful overlords zestial has to set that nasty example to all to show who’s top dog and that you don’t wanna mess with me. Tell me about it.
