I love how this tribute doesn't just show what an amazing career he's had but most importantly, how incredible a person he is outside of the court: A great father and husband, a goofy guy with fans, an incredible philantrophist, a fair and amazing rival, a great friend. People say a player should never outfame the sport but Federer has transcended tennis yet he somehow brought everyone along with him. He helped promote the sports to unprecended heights, and the way his rivals respected and loved him are proof enough of the legacy he has left for tennis way beyond the courts. Thank you Rogi!

I was thinking, since he won that award for 19 times in a row (and I guess he will go for the 20th) how about you call the fans award the "Roger Federer award" like you called the sportsmanship in honor of Edberg? That would be a very classy touch in my opinion

I may have cried more during those 30-40 minutes than in the whole year, and seeing Nadal, Mirka (Rog's wife), Robert and Lynette (his parents), RF 2 pairs of twins, but also Taylor Fritz, Tsitsipas, Casper Ruud, Berrettini, and even ND at the end (without counting the crowd), and reading many comments since, I don't feel alone at all.

Because of him and how unbeatable his game and style were, he just reinvented the sport almost. He "gave birth" to Nadal and Djokovic and every great player out there who knew that they couldn't make it unless they give their absolute everything to beat the best tennis player who ever lived. It was absolutely a nice but also (for me and many people) very sad moment to see Roger leaving the court after final match at Laver Cup on Sep 23rd. When watching I could very well remember when I was visiting Halle Germany (preparation tournament of Wimbledon) I had the chance to see Roger in person and he was signing my shirt, it was so great to be that close to Roger (think I was 14 years or so). I hope and wish all the best for you and enjoy all of your future time with wife, children and bigger family and friends. Will always love your game and your behavior on/off the court.

I try to explain to non tennis fans what this guy meant to me. And they just don’t get it. But I know fellow FedFans will. He just was special. He had that calm yet demanding presence on the court. I wasn’t even fond of tennis until I randomly watched the French Open final in 2009 channel surfing. I was immediately glued to the TV watching this guy who exuded coolness and swagger. The hair, the outfits and most importantly how he played. Just looked effortless. And when I saw him start crying while the Swiss national anthem played while he held that French Open cup that is when it hit me that this guy LOVED tennis that damn much. It was similar to my other sporting hero Kobe Bryant who lived and breathed basketball. From that moment on, I followed Roger’s career. I’ll miss waking up at odd hours and staying up super late to watch all of his matches. That 3am eastern time final in Australia against Nadal in 2017 might not have been his final title, let alone his final major title. But that moment truly felt like the crescendo on his career. He had been waiting almost five years to add another major and his fans were impatient and wanted it as much as he did! Beating Nadal made it that much better. That final doubles match the post match I’ll never forget balling my eyes out. And I have no shame in admitting it. I still follow tennis closely, but I don’t have a favorite male player any longer. No one will ever be able to be what Roger was. My favorite athlete of all time. Thank you Roger!
