If you watch in slow motion, the initial "hair pull" was accidental. The Washington player was reaching for the ball and just happened at that very moment, the TCU player's ponytail swung near the ball at that time. TCU player needs to be more aware of her ponytail swings before assuming others "pulled it" on purpose.

I've been in basketball brawls. You get hurt less if you just let them fight. It sucks when you get punched hard when someone, teammate or opponent, is holding you in the name of being a peacemaker.
That's the nice thing about hockey. Baseball brawls are the worst. Pitchers don't have to answer for beaning a batter.
That happened to me in High School. A guy and I got into it and someone grabbed both my arms from behind. Meanwhile the other guy throws a punch that just grazes my lip. I would not have been happy if he had fully connected while my arms were being held back.

Leaving the bench during a fight gets you auto tossed. That's why you need to always have your fight in front of the other teams' bench.

Some of it can be seen on the video. 32 blue and 14 white (obviously). 2 blue grabbed 14 to try to hold her back, so she goes. 21 white hit 32 blue, so she goes. 13 blue hit 21 white, so she goes. I couldn't pick up what 11 blue (Thornton) and 30 white (Makolo) did. The last one on the list for GW - Lok - must've come off the bench because she isn't listed in the box score as being active during the game.

The most logically thing to do in this scenario is to stop the fight. It's a basketball game not a boxing match.
No one PULLED her hair, it got caught between the basketball and the defender REACHING for the ball. So she felt the TUG of that.

Blowing the whistle loudly during a brawl/scuffle is like one of the first things you’re taught as referee of most sports. It definitely has an effect even thought it doesn’t look like it.

After watching this multiple times I'm confused why they ejected so many players. Only three players were throwing punches, no one left the benches, and the other players were trying to break it up who were already on the court. Kind of confusing if you ask me why they ejected 8 people

1:12 "Hair was pulled" is reasonably stated but not accurate. B32's hand, just after she got W21's elbow to the face btw, inadvertantly got tangled in W14's hair. B32 did not grab W14's hair. If this bothers W14 then she needs to keep her hair out of the way.
Edit: 0:35 "got her hair pulled" is incorrect but they didn't see the replay yet. But the point remains -- if W14 is so bothered by her hair's ability to get inadvertently tangled then she needs to sort herself out.

EXACTLY! That's what I said. ONLY eject the people who were THROWING PUNCHES, not holding teammates back, that was pure stupidity on the part of the refs in every possible way.

NCAA rule to live by you leave the bench during a fight and it is an automatic ejection no such thing as a peace maker so let the players on the floor do the due.
