THIS WAS INCREDIBLE TO WATCH AND EXPERIENCE, like Mitch is so talented that yea I do have a man crush on him! he is actually just an alien, 100%
Mitch 100% sold this performance - it may have been a "fun" thing, but he was locked into that character the entire way.
I always picture Mitch coming home from a bad day getting pushed around in school and singing this in his bedroom, dreaming about "defying gravity" and escaping to somewhere he can be himself. And I love that moment when he and Scott turn to each other -- "Dreams the way we planned 'em, if we work in tandem"
I do the same thing. It's awful that so many tried to suppress him and his natural talent. Nor to mention suppress him as a person.
Mitch is singing this in the original key and takes the optional high note at the end that even the women who’ve played this role won’t attempt. By the way, a great example of Mitch’s breath control is Carol of the Bells.
Love your reactions.
I agree
I third that recommendation!
Oh I can't wait for Carol of the Bells reaction, both the video and the live performance. Superb breath control 👌
Carol of the Bells - also known as the "Breathe, Mitch!" song.
@@professionalvampire1 yes!!!!
Every time you said, "Oh, I see this is it", we all thought just wait.
From Wicked on Broadway. LOL and the blonde wig returns! This is what Scott wanted for his birthday. Mitch is just Mitching.....(he's his own adjective....)
Breath control? Wait until Christmas and you react to Carol of the Bells! Can’t wait. Start early cause they have a ton of Christmas music!
Another fun fact ... Idina Menzel was the original Elfaba (Mitch's character). She is also Elsa on Frozen. So same singer on Mitch's part for this and Let it Go on Frozen Medley.
Mitch definitely can rock Idina songs. They both thrive in the same range.
Hi. Glad you got power back.
They are playing the good and bad witch in Wicked This song is considered difficult for women.
It’s Scott’s favorite play so,Mitch did this as a birthday present 🎉and they nailed it. Mitch is a natural actor
thats actually insane to me. like hey here's one of the best voices giving you a bday present, amazing.
@@mattsreacts And even more priceless coming from one of your best friends. When they won the Sing Off, Kirstie said she was SO happy the world would get to hear Mitch's voice. The mutual respect & genuine love of each other between both past & present members of PTX, & the humanity they represent is so humbling & so beautiful to see. And we get the blessing of their creativity & talents. They are just as gobsmacked by each other's talents as we are of them. That is why they are magic. Superfruit is so special & Im so glad they gave us this side of them lol
When Pentaholics recommend something, they know of what they speak!!
We always marvel at how high Mitch can sing, but we have to remember that Scott is a Baritone that takes over the bass part. He has an amazing range, too.
Mitch truly is an alien lol. He also has extraordinary breath control. Check out the PTX cover of Carol of the Bells. I swear Mitch doesn't breath for like the first minute 😱
You should also react to PTX singing "What is this Feeling" live. Which is also from Wicked.
Mitch is so good at getting into character and expressing emotions with his face and eyes (not to mention his voice!)
MItch's expression in the moment before he starts the final verses is just wonderful. He adjusts his hat, and then there's this shining anticipation as he goes eagerly to show us all what he can do.
Oh I am so excited
You were talking about Mitch’s breath control…I know it is not Xmas yet, but definitely check out their live version of Carol of the Bells from Xmas under the stars…otherwise known as the song where Mitch doesn’t breathe 😁😁😁
I say the same when you check out their live version of Carol of the Bells....breathe Mitch breathe.
One reactor said.. Look up Mitch and it says he has seven lungs.. Lol
I can’t find the link for the live Carol of the Bells from Christmas Under the Stars anymore! 😩 It was one of my favorites! I heard it was on the ByTV app but I only see 1 minute ads for the show when I go there. Any ideas where to see it now? (Besides watching old reactions?)
Wicked is Scott's favorite and Mitch singing Defying Gravity was his birthday wish. I'd love to hear them do that again, now. It would probably be even better, if that is possible. Mitch is quite a good actor, as you saw. He always taps into and delivers the feeling with every song he sings. They all do it, which is the kind of commitment that makes Pentatonix great, but Mitch is particularly good at it - or maybe I just notice it more because if he's singing, and on camera, he's who I'm riveted by. Chicken or egg, you decide. 😉
Of course he's a good actor, some of us learned how to be actors, pretending to be straight... What I'm serious, I learned so well, I can make sure there is not a dry eye in the house doing "Don't worry be Happy" (joke on my behalf)
Oh, that damn wig is it’s own character. It has made several appearances in Superfruit videos lol
I know everyone has mentioned this is the climactic song from the musical Wicked. The part Mitch was singing was originated by Idina Menzel (Elsa from Frozen). The part people leave out is Scott is literally singing Kristen Chenowith’s part. She is a coloratura soprano and he is a baritone, so it’s impressive how well he handles her part. That said, he didn’t want to do this song for himself…he wanted Mitch to do Elphaba. Apparently he was supposed to go see Wicked for his birthday but ended up sick and had to cancel it. So he asked Mitch to do this instead and we all got a gift for Scott’s birthday that year, I guess!
Scott really has an impressive range and his Falsetto is great and strong.
I think that wig has its own SAG card by now 😄😄😄😄😄
@@yvonnejones9940 hahaha yes!
and Mitch finds the thought of going on Broadway to be very scary. He is awesome here. I believe he will be there eventually, probably after he is too old to keep up the world wide touring. Kirstin did a stint on Broadway, if you haven't heard about that.
I love that you noted how believable Mitch's performance is. Silly green make up and witch hat aside, he feels and sells the lyrics of this song.
Speaking of breath control, when you get into their Chistmas music, which you must, please watch "Carol of the Bells", live performance from last year's Christmas Under the Stars.
All of the performances from that special are amazing.
God bless.
The way they end it after all the mind-boggling singing, cracks me up! At the same time Mitch's voice breaks my heart every single time. Excellent reaction!
This is from Wicked. In your free time listen to the Broadway version. Mitch upgraded it! ❤️❤️❤️
I would have to agree.
He actually did. He’s astonishing
This is one of the most impressive and yet hilarious versions of this song. It’s amazing
🤯🤯🤯!!!!
YAY! Another great reaction, my favorite line of yours was "That was higher than my IQ". I was crying/laughing so hard. The original was done by the fantastic Idina Menzel, and from what I understand, not only did Mitch sing it in the original key, he went HIGHER at the end. That's why I've been requesting this song, so thank you. Hope your fish are ok after power outage, and you too. You made me smile today!
'Oh, so that's what you guys were waiting for.' Nope! '
Then almost at the end you got Mitch slapped. Then the VERY end he knocked you out completely. THAT, my friend, is what we were waiting for 🤣🤣🤣
I love reactions to this.😍😍😍
Carol of the Bells is a MUST for Mitch's vocal gymnastics. The original video is awesome, but the live with Matt from their 2021 Christmas special is phenomenal. Every single member knocks it out of the park, and I think it's their most intricate arrangement. Also known as the 'when does Mitch breathe?' song. 😁
The Power of Mitch the Witch is magical! Great reaction….hope your eardrums are OK..
"This isn't my kind of music, but it's my kind of talent." THAT is why so many people love PTX. I'd listen to them sing the back of a shampoo bottle and be just as captivated.
I love that you appreciated this and Mitch's talent. Mitch actually hit a higher note at the end than the female singer in the Broadway play did. Mitch belongs on Broadway. I hope someday someone recognizes that and brings him there.
Noooooooo! I'd rather he stay with Pentatonix than on the bright lights of Broadway (except maybe in a limited run) where we might lose him forever. Call me selfish but I'd rather keep him.
@@HelenWheelsUtah I get that. Kirstie did a Broadway stint and I think Mitch could do that too. I didn't mean for Broadway to keep him!!
@@karehelene
And Kirstie came back from her run with Kinky Boots with much more confidence and a more mature voice. I can't imagine how Broadway would in any way improve Mitch's voice, but I am absolutely certain that Mitch's voice would absolutely improve Broadway.
Mitch has no reason to be on Broadway which would be a step down FFS.
@@HelenWheelsUtah You don't leave Broadway with an improved voice you leave with vocal damage.
Mitch as Elphaba and Scott as Glinda - Wicked. According to Mitch, Elphaba is one of the most difficult roles on Broadway. Can you imagine singing that role for eight shows a week?
Just for fun, please check out reaction by Jerod M "What is this feeling" from Wicked. It's the whole band but starring Kirstie and Mitch. I don't think it's available except from other reactors.
It exists on twitter and Facebook still as a video.
I found it a while ago as a lyrics and visualized video :

@@hernameispekka_Rebecca Thank you. Found it on FB.
I would love to see you react to some of Superfruit’s comedy vlogs. These two are so funny together. Their Ghost Hunting is hysterical. They also have 99 Ways to ditch your date, The Yoga Challenge, The Tin Can Challenge, and many others. They really give you a look into their personalities. They are great!💕💕
Superfruit " Bad 4 us"
Hello Matts Reacts. Mitch, Kirstie and Scott grew up together in musical theatre. This is who they are - singers, dancers, actors, performers. This is from the musical "Wicked". Stellar performance and superb vocals even when they are having fun. Mitch's vocal skills know no bounds. Every time you said "that's high", I laughed and thought - oh boy, he has no idea what's coming up! You got it. BTW - that blonde wig appears a few times in Superfruit. For some more acting you should react to PTX Trio (Scott, Mitch, Kirstie) on the TV Series Bones. PTX also posted a teaser earlier this year with what looked like scripts on tables in a reading session. Hope they have some acting gigs coming up for us.
I love this song - they are better than Broadway! “Wicked”
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Thanks Matt!
As others have mentioned, to really appreciate Mitch’s insane breath control you must react to Carol of the Bells. Also known as “Mitch breathe!!” We’d love it if you’d make it a double. The original with Avi first, then the live version (Christmas Under the Stars) with Matt. Please!!! 🤯🤯🤯
I couldn’t love this more! This is one of my favorite musicals as well and Mitch just knocked this other park. He hit higher notes than any of the women who have played this part on Broadway have hit. I never cease to be amazed by the level of talent that this amazing young man has. That is not to take away anything from the other members of the group including Avi, but Mitch will always have a special place in my heart especially given the things he went through as a young boy.
Thank you for sharing your joy and admiration of this wonderful group with all of us. 💜
I’m not sure if you’ve seen it or not but Mitch Scott and Kirstie were on an episode of the tv show Bones. They did a great job singing and acting. Check it out if you haven’t yet. Also, there is a Superfruit episode where Scott and Mitch react to some of their old performances from when they were kids in theater.
One more with the blond wig is Pop goes Broadway. With guest Shoshona Bean. Shoshana is a Broadway star who actually played the role of Elpheba in wicked who is the part Mitch just played in this. Mitch gives her a run for her money in pop goes Broadway as he’s able to match what she sings when they sing together. Fun fact in this Mitch’s ending note is actually a little higher than the official Broadway part is written. Which is considered hard for Broadway singers.
That was a fantastic reaction!! Loved your focus, I could definitely tell you were caught up in the story Mitch was sharing (weren't we all). And as someone else mentioned, you kept saying, "oh, now I see why..." and we're all like, nope, keep going, not there yet! 😂
It's from the musical Wicked and the words at the beginning are a quote from the musical. Scott is a huge Wicked fan so Mitch did this for him for his birthday. Mitch is playing Elphaba (the wicked witch) and Scott is Glinda the Good witch. In the musical they are friends to begin with before Elphaba turns wicked! Mitch sings this higher than the original key which is already pretty high! I know this probably isn't your kind of thing but I think you might like Wicked - there is a movie coming out shortly of it! Also Scott goes very high in this too which can't be underestimated. I love the fact that in the bloopers they are really struggling to sing badly!
Thank you so much for reacting to this broadway song from Wicked…Mitch slapped us all the way through this song!!
YYEEEEESSSSSSS!!!! 5 millionth time listening to this, continued to be Mitch SLAPPED every time with goosebumps on goosebumps. 😍😍😍😍😍
Mesmerizing is one word I come up with
He's amazing.
You should check out a few compilations on RUclips and see how hard it is for most amazing female singers to nail all the parts of this song. It’ll blow you away even more. Mitch really is a phenomenal actor. I would travel to New York to see him on broadway. You should check out Pop goes broadway on the Superfruit channel it’s Scott and Mitch and Shoshana Bean who took over for Idina Menzel on broadway. It’s pretty epic that they had her on the channel and then you can check out Scott singing on her single, All To Me, it is so powerful and while Mitch has outrageous breath control, his voice control and ability to change from chest, head, mix seamlessly can’t be denied and he’s the one who regularly blows me away, Scott’s amazing talents are shown off in the song with Shoshana.
You mentioned Mitch's breath control, you will be CONVINCED that Mitch has gills we can not see once you see him do the Carol of the Bells from last years live concert. You might be saving the holiday songs for December and that's fine, the longer wait will bring sweeter rewards. There is an official video of Carol of the Bells from years ago with Avi and then the live concert "Christmas Under the Stars" with Matt that are so different you will think it is done by two different groups. (not just because there are different men in the bass position)
I've said it a hundred times and I'll always say that Mitch and Scott together are beyond magical. They compliment one another to the tee. Love this!
For hearing Scott beautiful falseto, check "Rose gold". It is an PTX Original and Scott sings in falsetto the whole song.
It doesn't have an official video (only official audio).
They performed this song in their tour, either as single or medley with "New Year's day" (another wholesome original), but I couldn't find a good recording for "Rose Gold".
As for "New Year's day", there are several good televised live recordings in RUclips, that is worth reacting to...
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Matt, another Superfruit video to check out is “Pop Goes Broadway”. They mash up a few pop songs in a broadway style and perform a scene with an actual broadway actress. It’s a good one particularly if you’re not into theater songs since the actual music is stuff you’ll know.
"Wicked" is a Broadway show that "Defying Gravity' comes from. Basically it's the story of the initial friendship between Glinda (the good witch)...and Elphaba (the wicked witch) in the land of OZ. Great music, great sets - a great show.
Yes! Yes! Yes! This is so epic!!! I hope Love Again is coming!!!! 🙏🏻👍🏻👏🏻🔥🤯🦄💜
Another great reaction! Thanks for doing this, we didn't recommend it without a reason, right? I was thinking "wait, wait.." the whole time and I love watching you (and other reactors) getting brain-smashed by him constantly.. he's so in character (as in frozen), parody or not.. I second the recommendation for "Carol of the bells", one reactor shouted at his screen "breathe, Mitch, breathe!", it was awesome.. and please do Mad World, if you haven't done yet 😊
Great reaction!! Hope you check out their Frozen Medley. ❄️
Thank you for sharing your time with us. ☮️
I love this! Great reaction, thank you.
They have appeared in an episode of Bones proving they can act as well.
Mitch did this as a birthday gift for Scott. It is what he wanted for his birthday. And yes Mitch hits a high G at the end, on Broadway they hit the F
❤❤
Oh, and if you want breath control, try Carol of the Bells, lol
☝️YES please. Carol of the bells is GORGEOUS ❤️🤯❤️🤯❤️
If you want breath control watch Carol of the Bells { I don't think he breaths at all}.
I have yet to hear a song by PTX or Superfruit that I don't like better than the original or even any other cover. So many songs they've done I hadn't even liked before hearing their version. Last night was rough-4 weeks since my mom passed and your positivity and PTX members talent got me through it.
Loved your reaction! PTX does a cover of Waving Through A Window from the musical Dear Evan Hansen that will blow your socks off. Scott kills it.
I saw Wicked on tour in Denver and love the soundtrack. These two do it more than justice.
BTW your channel and your reactions was mentioned by someone commenting in Mitch's Patreon on this past Monday.
Oh that is so exciting! It would be so cool if Mitch watched a reaction and/or reached out to Matt!!
*laughing* We were all shaking our heads "no" when you said that's what we were waiting for! More to come Matt!!
love your reactions. Quick note, your volume is much lower than the music video volume, so it makes it hard to hear what you say sometimes (even when you pause), unless we jack the volume up, and then hopefully crash it down before you kick back to mitch and he blows the headphones off :). None the less, great time watching your content, keep it up!
Hey Matt! Thanks for another awesome reaction! Can you please so Avi singing in the jungle live and the hobbit song live. Theyre short ones 1😊 but epic! Also lalalatch and joyful joyful if you havent already 😊 have a great day
From Wicked, Scott's favorite
This is such a hard song to sing and to sing well!! They killed it!! Also not sure if you've reacted to it yet but Aha PTX Is AMAZING!!
❤️🤯❤️🙌🙌🙌
One of my favorite mitch songs is a cover of Zedd's Find You with Evan Duffy. It's different than anything else I've ever heard from him. Not that I needed him to get different...it's just a side I had not seen b4
You should check out PTX with Todrick Hall doing the wizard of ahhh's. Fantastic video and really shows off all their acting skills.
@4:45 "That was higher than...my...IQ." From one Matt to another: I salute you, sir. o7

If I could go back and record my reaction to any song ever, it would be this clip because even after I watched it, I still had no idea it was from Wicked as I don’t follow broadway, I sent it to a friend who likes PTX and just so happened her favorite broadway show is wicked
Hello Matt,
This song is from the musical Wicked
You should check out the “Wicked “ Anniversary Special PTX did a song and Mitch and Kirstie were excellent.
Did you do Frozen Medley yet? It’s brilliant ✌️
Yes he has
Thank you for spreading love to everyone in your videos. Please keep it up. Everyone deserves love. ❤️ It’s sad he was made fun of because he’s part of the LGBTQ community, higher pitched voice and just different. All things that are beautiful. Mitch is phenomenal.
Matt.....Scott was in the blond wig because he is Glenda, the good witch.
Wicked takes place before The Wizard of Oz. The Wicked Witch of the West whose name is Elphaba and the Good Witch of the North Glinda were roommates in college. Their college was sort of like Hogwarts. The book is one of the best books I have ever read. It deals with very adult themes. A big one is what is the nature of evil. Is someone born evil or do they learn to become evil or do they just become evil because that's what everybody else has labeled her. There's also themes of genocide. It explains how alphaba became the Wicked Witch of the West and her sister Rose was the Wicked Witch of the East. It explains the purpose of the ruby slippers which belong to Elphaba sister Rose. Glinda had absolutely no right to take those shoes. This is the link to to the Broadway performance of Defying Gravity. Idina Menzel plays Elphaba and Kristin Chenoweth plays Glenda. Listen to this and then compare it to Superfruit.

I love people reaction to this video, because they all start out by laughing and seeing the silly make-up and wig, and then they get completely sucked in despite that
@9:55 "Can't believe people picked on this guy." ... Of course they would. But who's laughing now?! ;) :) :p
If you don't know the original, from Wicked, that would be a great reaction.
