YES! I grew up in TNG and I'll admit, I was 100% sold on its outlook on the future. The idea that we would FINALLY overcome all the problems and head out into the universe is one we need even more today.
I feel like the people commenting variants of “No, we will resist and hate the bad Trek!” have either really missed the point or not watched the video. :D I respect a channel that has an honest, non-cynical mission. I hope you find a solid audience.
Thank you my first introduction was the Kelvinverse Star Trek 2009 I have come to appreciate the prime univer love The Undiscovered Country ,First Contact,Wrath Of Khan and Beyond loved Lower Decks and Prodigy yes I agree.
Couldn't agree more. And in a time when everyone is spending tremendous amounts of time hating on anything that doesn't perfectly satisfy them, it's great to see someone excited and positive and more eager to talk about what's great than what disappointed them.
The quality may differ between every iteration, but Trek never claimed to be perfect. Just good. Well said. Live Long and Prosper. Peace and Long Life. 🖖
Subscribed. It is nice to see a channel focusing on the positive. I may not always agree, but I welcome someone passionately talking about what they love about Trek. I'm especially interested in your doing some videos about Enterprise.
We can love something while also recognizing its problematic parts. Yes... Matter of Honor is a deeply DEEPLY flawed episode... but it's still got some good stuff in it. Data being Data. Picard navigating a difficult diplomatic situation. And Denise Crosby doing everything she can with what little meat they gave her to work with. All trek. Is good trek.
All fan of Discovery seeing this vidéo: Lisan Al Gaib !! PS: I don't judge them i don't see the show yet and not an expert in Star trek to tell which show is good trek or not
You had me at "Enterprise" 🖖🏽❤️ Looking forward to your channel. ENT fans endured for years so much criticism and then Netflix gave it its chance.(and thank heavens it was recorded in HD). Stick to your theme and let's get some positive spin out there 👍🏽
Basically, yes, Steve Shives made a long video about what Star Trek is and as long as it has specific ingredients, as long as it shares the same core DNA it's good Trek. It may be different in the way it tells stories, it may not be always great media but old Trek wasn't always great either, it's good Trek.
By this standard, they can disrespect and tarnish the legacy of Trek with terrible writing and cynical edginess all they want and we can never criticize it. This is exactly how you end up with more bad Trek. Trek that doesn't respect or adhere to the core themes of Trek should not be regarded as good Trek. Stop letting CBS spit in your mouth and thanking them for it.
I take it you haven’t seen the news. Paramount’s new owner Skydance, de-cannonized All the bad Trek. It is hinted to in the last Lower Decks episode. Merch sales were down 92%, nobody has wanted to syndicate Star Trek Discovery.
Youve missed the point. You also apparently have nary an idea what CONSTRUCTIVE criticism is as well. ALL of Trek has continued to explore the exact same themes but in different ways for each show and film. DS9 more than any Trek out there. Thats never changed. Whats worst, your way of thinking will backfire horribly. Show NO interest in Trek is a SURE fire way of getting NONE in the future. Thats how showbusiness works.
Love this! It’s so disheartening that so much of the discourse around media is “Thing Good v. Thing Bad.” And that so much of the Thing Bad camps only seem to talk about how bad something is instead of relishing in what they actually like about the thing. If a series of Trek doesn’t resonate, don’t watch it! If it does, do!
there's definitely parts of Trek I like more than others, but even the stuff I don't really care for, I can appreciate when it's good writing or a novel approach. yeah, every series had some less-than-stellar episodes, but even those always had at least one or two good scenes that drove a little bit of character development.
0:20 Happy you feel that way. Discovery is a disgrace to the franchise and ignoring the heart of the show to just "get what good we can from each one" is a such a willingly naïve take that I'll have nothing to do with. To get into why the analysis of quality, why we like trivia and where the heritage of something is (how and why it gets created) is important and contributes to the quality of the show. To ignore that and pretend that it's all good just means that you're just lying to yourself, not everything is good and that's also ok. (edited because holy sh*t so many of you misunderstood this) I believe the idea is "let's be solely positive", but denying what's good and what isn't, isn't the way to do it because that's impossible. Inevitably there will be conflicting opinions.
I feel like you completely missed his point here just to jump at the chance to say “yeah but Discovery is terrible actually. Just admit it!”. He literally said he’s not denying flaws, so what was the actual point of this response other than to state your opinion as an undeniable truth?
@nerdock4747 Discovery you say is a "disgrace" but so was Deep Space 9 if i recall. As was Voyager. As was Enterprise. Dare i say it, even Next Generation as well. You must learn to accept my friend that out there somewhere Discovery is someones first Trek, as with all the others, and for them its not just good but its GREAT Trek. Flaws and all. Sad as you may find it. Your view point is simply your opinion as is this videos. Youve missed the point and even your own about simply being more positive. By all means be CONSTRUCTIVE, but criticizing just to criticize because you hate a particular theme or direction isnt just being cynical for cynicism sake. Especially when the themes in all and every incarnation of Trek have remained the same for more than a half century and never changed. Your perspectives off sir. Trek was "woke" coming out of the gate from the start and thatll never change. You just refused to acknowledge it.
@@SierraSierraFoxtrot then what would you call them? Didnt Trek always tell stories about these things? What do you think "woke" was supposed to be in Trek Sierra?
I really gave Kurtzman Trek a chance. But Picard was sooo bad. I truly do believe the franchise was better off without it. That said, I appreciate your positivity and I'm happy to watch what you have on the way. Maybe you'll even change my mind.

I completely agree. Also, I would say that The West Wing is good Trek. Master and Commander: Far Side of the World is also good Trek. Of course Galaxy Quest goes on the list too. I think you could make a really interesting video about the shows and movies that are also Star Trek, even if it’s not official.

Telling morbidly obese people to think positively and love their bodies is conning them into a life of poor health and early death. Likewise, saying just because someone popped a Star Trek logo on a steaming turd means it's good, is disingenuous. Bad writing is just that, bad writing. Willful ignorance of and deliberate destruction of canon is not only bad writing, but a slap in the face to a dedicated community of fans more than five decades old. Lastly, rewriting the history, characterization, and soulful demeanor of classic characters is unacceptable. As is the overhauling of classic ships and alien races. (The Enterprise isn't nearly that big, and the Gorn are not the xenomorphs from "Alien." Nor were they known about in Pike's time. Kirk discovered them on Cestus III.) Discovery was a no-go from the start. Strange New Worlds gets worse with every episode. Just plain facts. So, I'll step off my soap box. GO BOLDLY, young man. Just don't spend too much time polishing turds. It's usually not worth it. Plus, you'll stain your hands. 😊
I think youve missed his point. Hes speaking of the INTENTIONS of Treks philosophies each show and film stems from. They continue to stand no matter the iteration.
