Breaded pork cutlet is popular in Korea, as well. Its always served with a side of baked beans and a cabbage slaw-like salad. often wondered if they learned to enjoy this from American military bases during WW2 and the Korean War.
I made this entire dish last night and it was delicious! I had no trouble finding the S & B curry powder at my local H-Mart store as well as the pickled ginger which was a great addition to the meal. Thanks Sam for the tutorial and recipe!
Tonkastsu is a family favorite. My midwestern kids don’t care for curry so I serve with a cabbage salad and traditional “bull” sauce. Rice too, of course.
My mother was Japanese and she made curry all of the time. She would make it many different ways. She would dice chicken, beef, or pork meat and cook it with the vegetables. She would make it without the meat and then we would eat it with tonkatsu, chicken katsu, or karage. She would slice an apple or pear and put it in with the veggies for sweetness. The apple would disappear during the stewing. The also make an instant roux that you can buy at most Asian markets if you are in a hurry. It is almost as tasty.
