Actually, Metallica invited Alessia Cara to pick a song from the Black album to do a cover for the Blacklist charity album, celebrating 30th anniversary of the Black album. Alessia did not know single song from the Black album so, Chris Smith of 21 Entertainment Group, who is her and The Warning's International booking agent, suggest she do a collaboration with The Warning. She agreed, so Chris contacted Metallica and they liked the idea. Then Chris contacted The Warning who agreed to the project. They had 10 days to arrange, record, mix, and submit their cover song to the Blacklist team. They did this in September, 2021 during covid so Alessia was in Canada and The Warning in Mexico when they made the recording. Matt Squire, who produced the song, was in Monterrey with The Warning, and remotely took over Alessia's computer while she recorded her vocal parts. Then, the demo was sent to David Bendeth in New Jersey to mix the track because Matt had a prior engagement and had to leave before he could mix the song.
They did a magnificent job. I have listened to a few other covers of Enter Sandman from the black.list. The Warning and Ms. Cara were by far the most creative and entertaining. Congrats to all.
Guess what...if you haven't yet....now you HAVE to watch their original cover of Enter Sandman from 2014. The video that went viral when they were 14,12, and 9 !!!!
Their cover of “Enter Sandman” when they were 14, 12 & 9 was what got them “noticed” in 2014. They had been playing mostly covers in their basement for quite a while, recording them and placing them on RUclips. This one went viral and it was “off to the races”. They are celebrating this 10th anniversary this year. You can’t go wrong with any of the 22 live songs of this particular concert at “Teatro Metropolitan” CDMX(Mexico City) in 2022. If you start at the beginning the next one you hear will be your favorite.🤟⚡TWA
They were asked to do their own version by Metallica with Alessia Cara the only rule was don't change the lyrics they killed it. Their harmonies are amazing and really make this version their own it is genius to save the iconic riff until the end. Great reaction thank you and Gerald for this. 🔥⚡
Longtime Metallica fan, seen them play this song on several tours, and I love this reimagined version. Some of Alessia Cara's vocals are on backing track for the live show, the oohs and ahhs. Dany is playing the Gibson Explorer that was gifted to her by Lzzy Hale not long before this concert. The Warning were mid set, Dany was waiting for a guitar change, Lzzy came out and presented it to her. This show was in Mexico City, August of 2022. All 22 songs are posted, and all are awesome, suggest "Disciple".
DPA/TW and Alessia Cara certainly understood the assignment! Alessia Cara is a Grammy winning Canadian Pop and R&B singer... they had 10 days to rip this rendition of *Enter Sandman* from the ether and make it a darker, more eerie, and a more haunting lullaby than the original metal version... this was done because they, and many other artists from numerous genres, were invited by Metallica to take one of the songs from the original "Black" album, keep the lyrics and change it up how ever you like... play it backwards, upside down, whatever... this was all for the 30th anniversary of the "Black" album... all the submissions from 50someodd artists were put on the 2021 "The Metallica Blacklist" album... the proceeds from the album sales are split 50/50 with half going to Metallica's "All Within My Hands Foundation" and the other half being donated to a charity of the participating artists' choice. in the OMV, Dany (guitar) and Alessia share the lead vocals until they are in the three doorways when Dany takes over and Alessia does more of the background oooohs and aaaahs... the version they play in concert has Dany doing the vocals with a backing track of Alessia's ohhhs and ahhhs... of course Ale (bass) and Pau (drums) join in with their angelic harmonies in both... this is a fantastic reimagining of the iconic original... this 60+ year old rocker loves both versions of *Enter Sandman* but this one by TW and Alessia gets more airtime these days 😹 TWA ⚡🤘😸🤘⚡ TWA
I totally agree, when an artist covers a song, they should make it their own. The Warning are great storytellers and masters at building anticipation. It is rare when we like a cover more than the original, but I do prefer The Warning's version of this classic song. I look forward to my donation request for your first reaction to Angelina Jordan. She has covered so many great artists and I always prefer her versions. Her version of "Bohemian Rhapsody" was loved so much by the members of Queen, they posted a link to it on their Twitter and allowed her to copyright it. She was 13 at the time.
If only for your own enjoyment it's worth checking out the original video of this that they did with Alessia Cara when Metallica asked her to do a cover for the Blacklist album . Considering how little time they had to get the whole project done - a matter of a few weeks - their re-working of such a classic song is mind numbingly good ! Re-Imagined, not a cover. Done for a Charity drive album, with about 50 other artists around the world. I have the 6 disc set, it's massive, and to me, The Warning's version of their song of choice from the Black LP, is the absolute best of the bunch. 50% of the sales and royalties goes to Metallica's choice, and each artist was able to choose a choice of their own for the other 50%. They have collectively raised over $2M so far. Now just so you know, this is their 3rd version of this song, and they have a 4th (done a year after this one), with an all female 10 pc String section that is incredible!
When reactors first hear this, they always get nicely surprised by the outro, when the trademark Enter Sandman riff comes blasting in. D'N'A keep the tradition alive! 🤟
I can imagine down the road when Metallica retires and they get a tribute farewell concert by many artists I can guarantee that The Warning will be playing this version live in front of Kirk, Lars, James and Bob, and maybe Jason as well. TWA.
Great Reaction. Many others of TWA already gave you the history of them doing this cover. Look into the other songs from this concert. None of them disappoint.
This song was recorded for Metallica's Blacklist album. Metallica basically told them to do whatever they wanted with the song with one condition: leave the lyrics intact... and this is what the girls came up with.⚡🤘
Metallica contacted The Warning and asked them to rearrange the song specifically for the Metallica Blacklist album. The Warning made the song their own under friendly respect for advancing from the "little girls playing in their basement" to where they are today (actually 2 years ago). Their success has kept them touring nonstop the last two years so much they brought in multiple songwriters, one on each song, to help them complete/contribute on their latest album, Keep me Fed. So you will hear a different flavor on each of their newer songs - Sick, Automatic Sun, Hell you call a dream, Six Feet Down, etc. Enjoy the ride!
One little correction...Alessia Cara was approached initially by Metallica and because Alessia and The Warning have the same international management, it was suggested to Alessia that she collaborate with The Warning for the new arrangement. The Warning rearranged much of the song and Alessia wrote all the harmonies. That's Alessia's voice in the backing track during the "oh oh ohs".
Hold on to your shorts, ladies! They have made this song their own with this performance. It's at the top of my list of Warning songs. Yes, it's a cover, re-imagining?. Now of their original music, it is tough to pick a favorite they're all kinda jammed up under this one. Now go back to the real cover from when they were 14, 12, and 9 years old.
Metallica heard their viral video they did 10 years ago and invited them to be on the Black List Album. Whole thing is covers of their songs celebrating 40 years of the Black Album. They did a version for the album with Alessia Cara. It's pretty cool too

What he said! BTW... Metallica was blown away by the reimagined version and it is track #1 on the Blacklist album! NOT TOO SHABBY for these three incredibly talented, beautiful, smart, fun-loving girls from Mexico. What perfect role models they are, particularly for young girls wanting to explore music. I am a 57 year old guy that grew up on 70s and 80s rock, hair metal, and even grunge. There were a few (not many at all) all female rock bands during those eras. I am so happy for the women of rock today. In my opinion, the ladies are out front carrying the torche for rock music today, and I love it. Women bring a whole different perspective and sensibility to rock music that has been missing... and by the way, they kick ass and have shown they are as good as and in most cases, better than the boys! Yep, I said it, and I mean it. Here are some other female led bands kicking ass (some are not all female, but their lead is, or have they multiple females in the band): Band-Maid, Jinjer, Skillet, Nightwish, The Pretty Reckless, Halestorm, Plush, Warpaint, Wolf Alice, Destroy Boys, Paramore, Wet Leg, Lovebites, Mary's Blood, and of course, The Warning just to name a few!
