Nice video Blane over the years I have befriended many saltwater fishing guides and one thing that I saw they all had in common were they were slaves to their sponsors. They were all honest with me. They would push a product, but if someone else made them a better offer they would dump that product in a heartbeat, I learned more about fishing by watching videos like yours and I do pretty good for myself when I get a chance to go fishing thanks again. Keep up the good work and I love your attitude.
Fantastic video! It's refreshing to hear more people speak up on the shambolic way the industry gets more out of "pro staff" than the staff get out of them. It's true, and beyond appropriate for it to be mentioned. I work in the industry and support this message to the fullest. The complaint department about videos like this will always exist. The hard fact is this is a real thing happening across the industry and it should be talked about more.
I appreciate the vent session. Used to work in the outdoor industry for a TV personality, and it’s ridiculous. Even when they’re paying you, some of these companies want you to rope the moon for a measly $7k annual sponsorship. Relationships are key, though, for success in the outdoor entertainment industry. A change in leadership can instantly ruin a good sponsor-talent relationship overnight.
@@SeanMcGeeWebDude I have a lot of relationships that don’t expect anything outrageous from me. We work in harmony. I just what I’m trying to say there is a section of fishing that are respected by sponsors. That is why they pay. Now, is surf fishing really doing anything that would entice a company to shell out cash? I don’t think so. But it will. And when it does we need to stick together. They will take advantage given the chance. It’s business.
@@panhandlesalt love your stuff, man. If I’m ever up in Pensacola to visit, I’ll book a trip with ya. Might have to soon…beaches wrecked down here in Pinellas and all fishing piers are closed too.
It's a clown show out there. Making companies tens of thousands of dollars for a bag of hooks and a blemished t-shirt. But that fly rig IS THE MFN SHIZZLE!
I was in the bass fishing business for a decade. Pro staff means promotional staff. Not professional. Yes there can be overlap but a pro staffer’s job is to sell product. If a pro staffer isn’t a top professional angler they’re not getting paid much of anything if any. Its true that the top of the top tournament trail anglers are sponsored to use a brands product, they get significant cash, tournament entry fees, etc. But the average Joe pro staffer usually only gets a 10-15% discount, hats, tshirts, maybe some entry fees. I don’t have any dogs in this fight but just wanted to provide a little info.
@@SmoothLures Good to know. That’s for the education. Honestly, I really don’t believe surf fishing is doing enough for companies to benefit for paying us. But, I strongly feel that with out monetary compensation the “Pro Staffer” should be free to use/wear what they want. I work with a handful of companies that actually encourage that. It’s refreshing
I’m embarrassed for you dude. Brother respectfully you repped 5 companies in the first minute of your vid… you are right in the middle of getting used and don’t realize it. No viewer cares about your companies you rep or your business they just want to see you catch fish and learn how. You’re the epitome of “preaching what you’re selling.” I’ve never heard of any of the products you rep and the same job can be done with Walmart gear. You’d get many many more views, subscribers, and ad revenue just fishing. There’s isn’t enough $ to pay for what you think you (and me) deserve. It will never happen. I went through the same thing and I relate and understand.
I think this is more about signing with companies that dangle shiny nothings in front of people with contracts that are ridiculous opposed to repping brands that you like with laid back contracts that everyone is cool with…I don’t see how he or anyone that creates content can logically think that repping brands is really that bad…just that it should be done in a way that isn’t taking advantage of fisherman…
