    I've found that sticking the magnet out of an old hard drive onto the rail keeps all the ball bearings in the holders for me, works pretty well, still fiddly but I've had success with it. Great video as always- I'm new to your stuff, working my way through them. You're a hell of a craftsman, good luck with all your future projects.

    Thanks so much for all the great information! I just had your Pal Singh send me the Panto-router and I can't wait to get it up and going! At some point I'd like to see you build a hexagonal cupola for a hexagonal gazebo...focusing on how to cut the "pie" pieces of the "roof of the cupola". It is an interesting compound miter & bevel exercise...which you covered in your miter saw-bowel episode. So AGAIN THANKS FOR ALL THE GREAT INFORMATION! I really enjoy the projects!

    Great video, I had some cheap sliders with two sharp edges fitting in two holes and fastened into the centre with only one screw into the unit's side. some fell apart with "B" bearings all over the place....I could not fix them despite several attempt and wrecking the plastic ball cage so was interested in knowing more.
    I'm surprised to see how many irrelevant comments are posted as well!

    Well I know this posting is not new but I thought I would put my two cents worth in for future observers. As an old Jeep repairman there are several places that I had to deal with tiny needle bearing that tended to fall everywhere. Use a bit of axle grease OR Vaseline daubed in the slide where each bearing goes. They are so tiny that the thick stuff will not only hold them long enough for assembly but it lubricates them as well.

      Surely in a dust laden environment like a woodwork shop thick grease would accumulate wood dust pretty easily? Would a spray silicone lubricant be better in that respect? Clearly not for assembly purposes though!

    • @billybobjoe198
      @billybobjoe198 5 лет назад

      I ain't no jeep mechanic or anything, but I wouldn't be lubricating drive shafts with vaseline. The only place for vaseline on a vehicle is the battery terminals to protect them from corrosion. That was Porsche's spec in the 80's.

    I used 2 pairs of drawer slides without modifying them and get to use their full extension. The pairs are arranged so when one is extended the other is completely closed (they are parallel but the screwed in to the base board on opposite sides and in opposite sliding directions). The play on these is in up/down direction and causes sagging when extended, so in this arrangement the opposing slides holds the platform up when the other wants to sag down, effectively cancelling it.
    This is only suitable for print bed platform y-axis slide though as it needs weight pushing down on it.

      @@tommyp110 I've done it before with no issues.
      But every drawer slide is a little bit different.
      I cut each end perfectly square with a chop-saw and cut-off wheel, then layed them into a corresponding recess I cut with my router to keep them perfectly aligned. About 7 feet long, still works to this day.

    Nice tutorial. You would think that with all the jigs woodworkers make that 'someone' would clue in and sell a cheap glide for these applications that wouldn't require modifications. Rockler are you listening? :^)

    • @bloomdds
      @bloomdds 6 лет назад +3

      You are asking Rockler for something "cheap"? IMHO, their products are very good, but too often feel overpriced. I wouldn't think Rockler would sell a glide for this at a price that feels good. When I bite the bullet and buy a Rockler item, you can bet it is at a sale price...and even then it feels like they only subtracted the "over" part of the overpriced item.

    • @dieSpinnt
      @dieSpinnt 6 месяцев назад

      Are you new to the interwebs? (No offense and I also meant you, 6 years ago, hehehe).
      I find it strange that no one wrote an angry response to your question. You know, you can ask or say something absolutely neutral ... there are always creeping people out of their holes who find exactly that offensive ... for whatever strange or irrational reasons.
      And there is the other folk, you know? They simply like don't like anything. Yes, even your existence is too much for them.
      Also: There is no form you have to fill out WHAT you don't like. So this can be anything. It can even be something positive (as an extreme example, people disliking reports of a tragedy or war. Which doesn't mean that they didn't like the video/report).
      More: Today (6 years later) the dislike count isn't even displayed anymore without special Extensions. I got 152 dislikes versus 4100 likes displayed. My opinion on this whole point is that if we don't know why (and we cannot know why, because most people do not criticize with a meaningful comment, or dislike just by their feelings ... which may be the opposite the next day!) and who disliked something, we don't KNOW! And if I don't know, then I shut up:) I mean, I really don't care what others think, especially with such vaguely and undefined decisions mostly based on feelings.
      Oh ... I'm just responding because I had thoughts about that matter in the past, too. Late responses are better than none, or?:) Have a good one, Mike!:)
      P.S.: That these like or dislike counts say absolutely nothing, or are in big danger to be influenced by the "herd instinct" (I think your question is related to exactly that), which makes them absolutely useless in the matter of a qualitative evaluation shows a simple example: Matthias drives a screw slightly not vertical into the wood. Someone may dislike the video because of that. Because of 5 seconds of a 621 seconds long video. Or just because he is in a bad mood today and by accident something in the video triggers that feeling again. One may like the video because he likes the person presenting it. Or the topic, but doesn't even watch the video or can evaluate or understand the content. Therefore such numbers are what they are: Fantasy and Garbage!:) I think they are even a bad thing, because they influence you to prefer a side. Without any critical thinking or using your own imagination or brain. Well, that is about media-competence these days. Another sad topic. No, I am not sad, hehehehe:)
