@@Theorangecrushgamer All the resources for crafting in both games are picked up as 1/4, 1/2, and full circles of the item. You need a full circle to equal 1 full resource. When Eralia picked up the blade resources, they were only a 1/4 each.
And equally it makes Ellie’s motivation for wanting Abbie dead so much more weighty. It’s not just the fact she took Joel. But considering Ellie forgave him literally hours before Abbie took away the chance of any redemption of their relationship.
Exactamundo. I was quick to hate this game for surface level reasons when it came out, but it took subsequent watches of playthroughs from people more empathetic than myself to really give it a chance to say what it was. Lots of people are quick to say "Oh god, a typical tired cliché about how revenge bad." It really is about forgiveness.
This'll be long but bare with, The ending is really poetic. Ellie spared Abby, not because she decided revenge was wrong, rather she realized that her hatred for Abby came from a very different place. Ellie hates Abby for ruining her chance to forgive Joel for what he had done. She, like Abby, had tortured Joel in one way or another by pushing him out of her life for what he had done and this haunted Ellie. Ellie never had time to forgive Joel and accept his actions. Ellie viewed killing Abby as a sort of penance that would absolve herself of her own sins against Joel which she had projected onto Abby to remove herself from the guilt. In the end, as she had Abby fighting for her last breaths, she reflects on who Joel really was. She remembers the man that became her family and the good in Joel. She reflects on the night before his death when she made the first step towards forgiveness and acceptance before that came to a sudden halt with his death. She realizes that killing Abby changes nothing and finally reaches deep enough to remove some blame from Abby and place it upon herself. People are confused when they think she forgave Abby because she didn’t in that moment. Ellie forgave herself and Joel. She finally came to terms with Joel’s decision and the fallout that occurred after it. This is clear when she returns to the farm and plays his guitar for the last time. She plays the song Joel played for her when he introduced the guitar to her. “If I ever were to lose you, I’d surely lose myself.” This line reflects both Ellie and Joel’s feelings about their relationship with each other. Joel would’ve lost himself if he left Ellie in the hospital and Ellie lost herself after he died. Ellie restored herself by sparing Abby and maintaining an ounce of the humanity that is so prevalent in Ellie during the TLOU1. Every time she strings the guitar I thought of Joel and that special moment we get in the first half of the game. When she plays it for the last time, the song represents the very essence of who she is but this last time it is broken due to the loss of her fingers but also a loss of something much more. The music is symbolizing the restoration of Ellie and her and Joel’s bond but also this new brokenness reveals a missing part of herself that will always be gone now that she has accepted that Joel is gone. The loss of this important part of her life can be heard through the broken sounds of the guitar strings which sound so tragic after hearing that beautiful rhythm throughout the game. It is such a tragic and beautiful message of coming to terms with loss and finding forgiveness within. It’s a shame that some people do not understand the ending and simply confine it to “revenge is bad.” It is so much more than revenge and hatred. It’s about love and forgiveness. Personally, I think Joel would be proud that Ellie found herself through forgiveness rather than following through with revenge. He sacrificed humanity since he believed they had no cure for their inhumanity. Joel found the missing humanity in Ellie, and she proved him right in the end. Lastly, after Ellie strums the last few notes of Future Days, she leaves behind the guitar which symbolizes her newfound ability to move forward with her life, and assumably returns to Dina in Jackson. This game is a masterpiece for me.
Thinking that Abby has a more valid point for revenge because it was her dad killed..Joel was not Elliie'dad ,and this is the true problem, even if they have respect and love friendship too..if Joel was Ellie true dad ,events were totally different. Ellie and Joel are two broken person, trying to repair their heart broken. Love what you said,Ellie finally find peace at the end but it cost her everything..
Well said, and saves me the trouble of trying to break down the ending and themes of this brilliant, challenging, exhausting and rewarding game. Thanks for putting so much work into this comment!
God, that was such a perfect interpretation and summary, it makes me want to screenshot your comment and send it to every person who writes this game off as another "revenge is bad" story. You 100% nailed it, thank you.
It's so weird. Part of me obviously wishes Ellie would've stayed with Dina on the farm, I'm sure she would've improved over time there. But I also wouldn't want Abby and Lev to die out there on the poles. I just wish the two would've had a proper talk instead of that fight. They're both just some traumatized kids and could probably relate much more towards each other than they would think.
22:28 Joel wouldn't get involved in a vengeful quest in the first place. We find a note in a shiv door in the first game written by a grieving mother who takes up arms and swears revenge for her son who was murdered by FEDRA. Upon reading this Joel simply says, "Well with that kind of thinking, no one wins." When Ellie says that "Joel would be halfway to Seattle already", Tommy says, "No, he wouldn't." He's right. Joel's violence is pragmatic and comes from a place of survival and protection. He didn't kill the Fireflies because it was something personal, he killed them because they were a threat to Ellie, and an obstacle in his path. Joel isn't one for vengeance.
Joel didn't go for the army guy who ordered the shooting of Sarah either, probably also because he more so blamed himself for it. He also said to Ellie during the birthday flashback that she shouldn't always get so riled up by other people. However, I'm not sure if he wouldn't have gone for Abby is Ellie was the one getting murdered, after all they went through, including him at the hospital. He couldn't let her go at that time either, not just for her but also for himself. I also think that Tommy said that in that moment more so to protect Ellie. He did not want her to go, so he tried to bullshit his way through to get her to stay to protect her. That makes the farm scene with him being such a bitter bastard even sadder.
@@Dark__Thoughts well like it’s kinda how we was he go’n figure out who he was I think 1000% if someone murdered Ellie and he knew who he was like let’s say David he would most definitely go and find and kill David.
I think, ultimately, it doesn't matter what Joel would've done. Ellie doesn't go after Abby because that's what Joel would have done. That may be what she's telling herself and those around her, but she's doing it for herself and her own reasons. Joel may or may not have done the same thing; there are arguments to be made for both cases. But, if anything, we know that he would never have wanted this for Ellie. He knew it would ruin her the way it did.
you're 100% right. I thought the same thing. Joel didn't even want to deliver Ellie to the fireflies and the reason he kept going was because he couldn't go back and Tess was gone. When they were in Salt Lake City, he wanted to go back to Jackson. He didn't see the point in going forward. Joel is the kind of guy who would not take unnecessary risks. Going to Seattle was just that. Tommy knows Joel very well. He's Joel's brother and they've survived together for years. Tommy is 100% right.
joel will definitely seek revenge for Ellie if that happened to her, and that was shown in the game part 1, when they kidnapped her, and in the end of the game also, when he killed everyone stand in his way only get to her . Mostly, because he actually can't handle another loss of this kind.. it might kill him for real
I very rarely cry to stuff but when Joel was lowkey crying at the end, it was hard not to. Something that always makes me cry is seeing another man cry.
It’s crazy how easily this story can shape your emotions. When she was playing Abby’s side, she shot at Ellie without hesitation, and now that she’s playing Ellie’s side, she supports Ellie’s choice to avenge Joel. This game has such a powerful story. It definitely will give you some emotional whiplash 😓
Sorta. I think that came under the condition that this would help her, but when it came down to it I think she saw that this was pointless and not the way. Luckily Ellie realized that in the last moments too.
I literally spend my evenings in your company! In particular, I loved the playlist of The Last of Us Part 2 so much, and being a huge fan of the game, I was struck by the passion and dedication you put into playing it. From the theories you constructed to the songs you sang (you have a wonderful voice), you conveyed every single emotion you experienced during the storytelling. It's needless to reiterate that your videos are the only thing that truly makes me feel at home. Never stop doing what you do because the dedication and passion you have are not at all taken for granted. Thank you for being there, Eralia ♥️. Greetings from Brindisi, Italy 🇮🇹.
Never have i watched a playthrough that made me laugh so much but also cry so much. I have no idea how you made it through this game with the complete lack of looting you did. It's actually hilarious. Just overall very entertaining to watch and i barely got any work done when i had you playing because i couldn't look away. There's nothing i could say here about the game that everyone else hasn't already said, but it's clear that you took from the game exactly what you're supposed to take. Some people play it and never see anything other than "Revenge bad," but you understood that this was a game about the minds of two very damaged young women dealing with trauma in a super horrible world. Trust me, I've watched dozens of first time playthroughs of the game, you'd be shocked how many people don't engage with it beyond that. Great playthrough, enjoyed it a great deal. Thanks for making me laugh a lot.
joel wasn’t about revenge. “shit happens, and we move on”. even in the beginning, she said “if it had been one of us joel would’ve been half way to seattle by now”… tommy says “no, he wouldn’t have…” (most underrated comment on joel in the whole story). ellie’s mission was all about the guilt that she had for not being able to finally forgive joel and mend things with him.
@@ghostyhype_btw4303 there is a deleted scene where tommy said to ellie that joel didnt seek revenge for sarah, his suicide attempt in the hbo show cross confurms that.
@@ghostyhype_btw4303 in the game tommy confronts ellie eho want to go in seattle like joel wouldve, tommy aid "no he eouldnt" there is an extra to this scene ehere he explains that joel got drpresed after saras death and didnt gone rampage on fedra.
Unfortunately, I think a lot of Ellie's turmoil comes from her belief that if she'd died at the hospital "at least her life would've mattered," and not realizing that she doesn't have to make a vaccine, be immune, or die for her life to matter. She matters as a person all by herself, with no qualifiers, and I think Joel felt that after coming to care for her. I think when she realizes that and then recontextualizes all the things Joel's done for her, she'll be able to be at peace with everything, including finding her forgiveness for him. Ugh, such a great storyline. Thanks for playing it! Honestly, best playthrough of this series I could've prob picked to watch
There's SOOO much symbolism and nuance in the last scene with Joel and Ellie and the window scene. They're not on an equal level when we walks out but he then puts himself on her level by leaning down. Then he stands back up unequaling them again when he says he'd do it all over again, then he leans back down. Not to mention all the facial expressions and voice acting. And the window...Ellie finally forgiving and moving on. The little dead plant shows that he's still there even if he's gone. The open-ness between them on the porch and Eliie being open to forgive shown in the open guitar case. The moth on the guitar represents Ellie, she was stuck in the dark (case) for a long time. And now she's in the light finally, healing. The cracked paint on the window showing all the scars from the journey but in the end she's still there and can live on.
A brilliant part of this game is the QuickTime sequence during the Ellie/Abby fight. On one hand, as Ellie, you are trying to stab Abby, but at the same time, you can feel like you’re tapping that square button as Abby fighting Ellie off. This moment further drove home the parallels of these two girls. What Naughty Dog did by making you feel for both people is incredible imo
I didn't feel for either. Abby is a piece of shit that I don't like, ellie became a piece of shit that I don't like. They could both die in the first hour of part 3 and I wouldn't feel a thing.
I never, not for a moment, felt for Abby. Not for a second. When the game forced me to start playing as Abby, I deleted it. I watched some play throughs and my disappointment was confirmed on every level. I'm glad some players enjoyed the game but I don't think it should exist.
@@karlwilker579 One of the many potential naive cute questions he could ask Abby. Lev exploring & learning about the old world stuff with Abby was so funny.
I really enjoyed experiencing this again through the lens of eralia, thank you for your kind heart and mind. It takes empathy to truly understand this game. I always tell people that there are 4 underlying themes to this game... 2 per story arc. Abby's are regret and redemption, while Ellie's are revenge and forgiveness. This game will stick with you for a long time, trust me. Thank you again!
The thing with the 4 underlying themes is extremely beautiful. I didn't even thought that way. But suddenly I just loved this game more than before, and it was already my top favourite! Thank you!
The windchimes hanging from the front of the farmhouse are the exact same ones that can be seen at Joel's house in Austin. We see them briefly when Tommy, Joel, and Sarah leave the house. I am guessing Tommy brought it with him along with Sarah's photo because it prob had some sentimental value (my headcanon is that maybe Sarah & Joel made it together as a crafts project lol). Those same windchimes can be seen AGAIN at Joel's house in Jackson. And now they're at the farm. Managed to notice this during my first playthrough. That windchime has had one hell of a trip lol
Even though I've played through the game dozens of times, I have thoroughly enjoyed watching you experience it for the first. Thanks for sharing your journey!
One of the greatest games I've ever played, I understood and sympathized with every character and I respect the writer's for not letting people off the hook and making them answer for there actions good or bad. Everything about this game was great. The music, the graphics, the game play, story, the acting,. You really made me think about different perspectives in every situation
This is just my two cents on Ellie's thought process in Santa Barbara + the overall ending: After Abby spares her + Dina and gives Ellie the chance to experience a peaceful family life with a partner and child, Ellie finally starts to experience the fulfilling life that Joel wanted her to experience when he saved her from the hospital, not for her to waste it on grief and regret. And when Tommy shows up at the farmhouse, Ellie at that point isn't full of anger like she was in Seattle. At least a year has passed, so she's not reeling from Joel's recent death and has had time to process her true feelings about him and Abby. And Ellie realized within that time that she wasn't mad at Abby specifically, bc she's accepted that she was angrier at herself this whole time for not mending her relationship with Joel soon enough, bc he was the person she loved the most. But she's still depressed and suicidal, and she doesn't know any other way to cure her PTSD except to look for Abby and possibly kill her if that's what it takes. Bc proper therapy doesn't exist in the apocalypse to help her deal with her grief, and Dina's method of talking about Jessie to his parents and JJ isn't how Ellie feels comfortable talking about Joel yet. Abby was in full control during their prior 2 encounters and was the one who decided to spare Ellie, not vice versa. But SB is when Ellie finally has agency over Abby's fate for the 1st time. And when she finally has Abby essentially 'defeated' and drowning, Ellie has the option to finally kill her. And she realizes doing all this isn't curing her PTSD as she hoped, instead, she's thinking of all the time she wasted getting there and the family she left behind (like how she kept saying in her journal that she missed JJ and Dina). Thus Ellie's flashback of Joel pops up of when he 1st showed support for her relationship with Dina, a part of her identity that she was scared that Joel would judge her for (bc this whole time he thought she was straight). It was a final reminder that abandoning Dina and JJ is the last thing Joel would've wanted for her life. So Ellie spares Abby to give herself closure, as the first act of self-forgiveness, and moves on to seek real help for her PTSD in Jackson. Bc the best way she could honor Joel's love for her would be to not push away the other people in her life who loved her. It's hinted that Ellie reunited with Dina in Jackson before that farmhouse scene at the very end, bc Ellie is wearing Dina's evil eye bracelet which she didn't previously have with her when she left for SB.
I LOVE THIS GAME. It teaches you that there is no good or bad side, everyone just had their problems and it shows you both sides so you can understand Ellie and Abby . It is a constant dilemma and if a game gives you so much feelings, it means it's an incredible game.
Well, to me Joel is the bad side. He not only did something completely selfish in robbing humanity of a cure, he did it against Ellie's wishes, which was why he repeatedly lied to her about it. Add to that that he killed a doctor/surgeon when there can't be too many of those left in the world. The idea that "the only thing that matters is what matters to me" is one of the reasons why the US is so divided right now.
I'm so excited to see the "lost levels" get adapted for the HBO series, especially to elaborate more on how Mel felt going into a relationship with Owen, knowing his history with Abby... as well as to elaborate on Tommy's complete turnaround from discouraging Ellie in the beginning of the game, to ruthlessly trying to rope her back into taking revenge, for his sake, it seems, at the end. That might be trivial to some. It's just that I understood all the rest of the characters so well from the story we were presented with. Those are just the two I was always left with wanting a little more clarity on. Can't wait to see what they come up with for part III...
A simple revenge story on the surface unveils itself as a story regarding the importance of identity and grief, more specifically how we tend to cope with grief in a time of sorrow and suffering. This story’s branching pathways helped me see how similar the two women actually were. Abby finally found a new meaning to her life the moment she took Lev and Yara under her wing. All the pain, all the sadness and the realization of how useless her tracking Joel and killing him was were swept away upon cementing and finding a new purpose….A real one. Ellie, on the other side, wasn't really seeking revenge and she wasn’t so much mad at Abby more than she was mad at the fact that Abby took away the chance for her to reconcile with Joel. She finally had the strength to try and forgive him but he died the day after….and you kinda have to admit he had it coming. Killing Abby was just a objective to focus on, to evade the thought of how badly she pushed away the man that she loved the most, the father that she never had, tormented by the thought of him thinking that she hated him while dying. It took one moment, a single glimpse of him while trying to drown Abby to remember the gift he gave her that night, a real precious one: How to forgive, how to forgive the man that took her chance of saving the world and to forgive the woman that killed him, seeing how that once fierce warrior was crawling in the dirt to save that scrawny little kid. At almost the cost of her life, she ended up giving back to her worst enemy, exactly like Joel did with her years ago….
"Sometimes that's the best you can do... If you can't forgive them, you can just try to move on." What a great reaction to the entire game, Eralia. Such a pleasure to watch!! Thanks for making me cry. AGAIN! 😍
The song Ellie wrote into her diary thingy is actually out . Shawn James - The Guardian (Ellie's song) i found it after i finished the game the first time and it s amazing! sooo much feel in that song, especially for someone who played the game. Go and check it out, won't regret it : )
i’m so glad to have gone through this journey with you Eralia! i’ll definitely still be hanging around the channel after this series. Highly recommend the Uncharted franchise if you have yet to indulge in it, definitely need the old naughty dog charm after this game, peace be, love ya!
It's like there was a different writer for Tommy in the last chapter vs the rest of the games. This is a man who asked Maria to lock up Ellie so she wouldn't follow him in search of Abby, and for the record, Tommy HATED doing all that - in the first game he told Joel that he had "nothing but nightmares from those years" when talking about how they survived together thanks to Joel, because they had to do horrible shit to survive, and Tommy even added "IT WASN'T WORTH IT!" That's how much he hated doing it - he hated killing and torturing people, but he was doing it so that Ellie wouldn't have to, he was trying to talk Ellie out of going after Abby. And now... after everything they've lost chasing Abby, he tries to GUILT TRIP Ellie into going IN HIS STEAD because he can't go? No. That's bullshit. That's not Tommy. Tommy would ride after Abby himself if he was bent on revenge and get himself killed before he'd ask Ellie to do that for him. Tommy knows Joel wouldn't want Ellie to go after Abby and Tommy would have respected that and he would have done everything to protect Ellie. They could have had Tommy come to Ellie's house, pitch the idea, Ellie could have told him she is not doing that anymore, to which Tommy should have then responded with "ok - I think you're doing the right thing, I only brought it up because I thought you wanted this" and then have Ellie have her PTSD moments the night after and change her mind and go anyway despite what Tommy said, and you'd have still had the same exact plot without FUCKING RUINING TOMMY'S CHARACTER! I don't know who was fired from Last of Us Part 1 vs Last of Us Part 2, but whoever it was, they were keeping the characters in check and consistent, whoever took over did Ellie Joel and Tommy dirty.
Yeah I was thinking something similar thing during this reaction. Someone needed to remind Seth at that moment that they send Joel out to end things. He's got one response to conflict and it's devastating. Surely it's understandable that Seth wouldn't know how lethal Ellie and Dina are (even by just underestimating them as teenage girls)... but I imagine word must have gotten around over those 4 years that Joel puts bodies down. But of course Ellie has probably caught more bodies than Joel across the 2 games, and half of them up close and personal with that knife. Seth is a lucky SOB three times over.
@@mmce9416 I love that line that Dina says, when Ellie is vulnerable and calls herself "not a threat... just a girl"; and Dina responds with "oh Ellie, I think they should all be terrified of you". That is so true, lil Ellie is a force of nature, and Joel taught her how to get things done.
I just want to give my little thing that give me hope for Ellie to you guys. In California Ellie didn't have Dina's lucky bracelet, but at the farm in the end she did. Gives me hope that she already went back to Jackson to reunite with Dina and JJ before she went to the farm.
Nope, how could Ellie know Dina went back to Jackson? It makes more sense that Ellie went to Jackson after the farm is empty, not the other way around c'mon. 🙄
Her way she approaches the farm comes across otherwise. Not that she looks surprised, but resigned to the reality of what she found. I think her putting the bracelet on shows her hope that she'll find Dina, and leaves the farm for Jackson when she doesn't to go look for her. But she put it back on to represent that she's moved on from her vengeance and is ready to get back to living HER life, imo.
@@carlospandette8001ina said she wasn't "going to do this again" pretty safe to say she wasn't gonna wait around for Ellie and caring for a farm and a baby would be hard for one person. If she'd go anywhere it would be Jackson where Jesse's parents are. Also, I'm not saying that is what happened. It's just an idea that I like even if it probably isn't the reality. Open ended finish so people can thing whatever they want until otherwise is said.
@@carl_consumer.of.reality I'm not sure about that to be honest. You'd think the main gate with the path there leads to Jackson, but Ellie leaves out through the back and into the forest.
The poem Ellie writes in her diary is a song. They released it as "Ellie's song" with singer Shawn James, it's a very beautiful song for anyone who wants to look it up.
Such a beautiful singing voice Eralia ❤. Also, I'm sorry but I couldn't help but laugh at how much finding the scissors pissed you off, knowing that Abby would never get into combat with anyone other than Ellie again! (I think the in-game resources are meant to be bits of things rather than the whole item, hence you have to find several instances before you get one whole part). Anywaaay... Great playthrough series and I pray we get a part 3 one day!
What I've always found really touching about Joel's story arc is that he isn't very present in a game that is entirely about guilt, and at that final moment he says he "would do it all over again", shortly after which he accepts his fate "Get this over with" in front of Abby. He stands by everything he's done, even though he carries the most guilt, he feels guilty almost half his life for not saving his daughter who was his entire world, and he is in the Joel/Abby/Ellie narrative dynamic the only character who knows just how selfish what he did was, and how he swiftly discarded the fate of the entirety of the human race. He essentially pushes mankind in a new era, one that wasn't started at all by the arrival of the cordyceps pandemic, but by the selfish act of one single broken man, an era in which mankind is essentially doomed. I believe that he'll never forgive himself for either, but when Ellie visited him on that porch that very last night, and when she was still by his side when he died, he is appeased to know that mankind isn't doomed as long as there is something worth dying for. Fantastic game and playthrough it was awesome to go through the emotions of this game withoUT feeling the guilt of pressing the buttons this time around. I'd be really interested to see you play other Naughty Dog games (Uncharted) but also games that ventured into very emotional moments (GRIS, Nier, Spiritfarer, etc. to name a few) as I particularly enjoyed your ability to instantly empathize with Abby ( who a lot of people straight up despised and never cared for her half of the game ) and Owen ( who the rest of the people seem to hate simply because he cheated and overlook the entirety of his character) despite their wrongdoings. Have a great rest of the week !
thank you so much for this comment! it was very pleasant to read, and was very well-written. i enjoyed hearing your perspective, and thank you for enjoying mine! cheers 😊
@@eralia I dislike the idea that the world is "doomed." I think part of the reason we see Jackson is to show us that the world is NOT doomed; people can still thrive when they come together and love each other. Y'know, don't try to make the world into what it used to be, just learn to live in the new world.
I’ve played this game so so many times and still love watching people play it, I think you’ve had the most emotional reactions to anybody I’ve seen play this game and it was a real pleasure to watch you experience this game. If you didn’t know the sail boat on the beach which is the new Home Screen is letting the player know that Abby and lev made it to Catalina island.
This is the second time I’ve watched this episode and maybe the dozenth time I’ve seen the ending of the game and I’m a pile of tears. This play through was special. As someone with PTSD, I feel close to Ellie in a way I never have with a fictional character. Her pain is so real, Ellie has been rejected, abandoned, abused, adopted, betrayed, redeemed, and has failed in so many ways, I just can’t even express how much I relate to her. You really took the ride with these games and I am so grateful for your candor and vulnerability in your reactions. You totally rock and I can’t wait until you can get back to gaming.
Thanks for playing, it was really cool to see how you would react to everything, especially the ending 👍😉 But you nailed it with your thoughts at the end, it is about forgiveness and empathy and less about revenge. Ellie and Joel singing during the credits was such a nice addition. You are a good human being, take care 🙂
Having just finished this game a week ago, I'm so glad that it had just as big of an impact on you. I feel like I could write an essay on this game. Definitely need to add the Uncharted games to the list!
I think uncharted would be pretty disappointing after playing tlou, they are more like comedy action fantasy movies (until the 4th game) whereas tlou is deep and emotional storytelling
the first games are kind of meh for me. fun though they are. it's the fourth one that is more like tlou in terms of how the characters and the relationships are more in focus, because it was written and directed by the same person. i will say though, that i think playing them in order (they're pretty easy to get through) might make you appreciate the characters more. i didn't, i played the fourth one first and played one, two and three after, i still enjoyed it. but it's also just a completely different genre, think indiana jones or something like that.
Don't listen to those other guys, definitely play Uncharted! It's nowhere near the story/character depth of TLOU but they are wonderful games regardless.
@@mikeyb.0121 I was told to try Uncharted after I finished TLOU2. oh boy. I jumped into the first one and it was ROUGH! I'm told it was revolutionary at the time but now it's just dated as hell. Played a few levels but haven't gone back to it. Not sure if I can just skip ahead to the 4th chapter.
I've played through this game twice; and watched many play-throughs. I have to say, it's one of my favourite games ever (not because it's perfect, but because when it hits, it hits for the moon and more often than not reaches it). I really appreciated your playthrough, and your very visceral (heart on your sleeve) reactions. I hope that you did have a good time, and while I'm sure there are many games that resonate, it would be interesting to see how well this game holds up for you (and whether you actually find, like many people, that it has a very deep hook that keeps you coming back to explore). The one thing I'd add (and I'm sure it's been said before); I think that while Ellie and Abby's shared much in terms of their story; this also represents a sliding doors moment; where we see both Abby and Ellie go on their vengeance journey; but that Abby finds something to fill the void - her bond with Lev - whereas Dina/JJ are never quite able to do that; until perhaps the end when Ellie is able to put down the guitar, the hold her pain has on her, and look forward perhaps to forgive herself most of all. For me, I have to say that Abby's story resonates most for me, and it's a positive uplifting tale of redemption. That's why she goes back to help Lev and Yara... not for Owen; but for her soul. I always well up with tears playing/watching this game. Yes, it is emotionally manipulative - that's the art of it. And ND did such a great job of touching something deep in many of us.
Thats a great way of putting it. There is one or two issues I have with the game, but you are right; they aimed high, and most of the time hit the target, and told a brave and bold story that not everyone will be happy with. I kind of rushed through my first playthrough of the game, and it wasn't until the second, I saw it for the fantastic game, and story, it is. Naughty Dog is to be applauded with telling this story, even if it is divisive for some.
Bit of a READ lol: In my opinion, understanding & TRULY empathizing with Ellie at the end, I believe, is that hardest challenge the game presents to the player. Even harder than having to see things from Abby's perspective, or empathizing with her. I feel like anyone who truly puts themselves in Abby’s shoes for a moment can see things from her perspective. It took me a simple, 15 minute break from playing the game to set aside my anger, and begin to commit to her section of the game lol. Ellie has sooooo many things going on in her mind in the prologue: PTSD, IMMENSE guilt re: Jesse’s death, how she left things with Joel before his death, feeling unfulfilled, feeling like she can’t fix herself, feeling guilty about being a burden to Dina, feeling like she’s bad for her family, feeling the deep loss of agency at every major moment in her life (the situation with the fireflies, abby taking her chance to fix things with Joel, abby then taking her chance to simply walk away at the end of day 3), feeling utterly trapped in her position. And then Tommy comes and opens those old wounds AGAIN. The trip to Santa Barbara is a suicidal one. She doesn’t see a way out in her situation (doesn’t help that there aren’t therapists in the post-apocalypse lol): she isn’t sleeping or eating well. The inghtmares are fairly constant, and she feels like she is becoming too much to handle. Time isn’t fixing whatever is wrong with her. So, she leaves, hoping to maybe get some closure, to maybe regain some of the agency that’s been robbed from her all her life. Hoping to fix her trauma, guilt etc one way or another. She incorrectly believes that going after Abby will fix what’s wrong with her. She was, in her mind, slowly dying at the farm anyway, so she might as well try this and succeed, or die in the process. I love that at the very end, at the beach… she lets Abby go. She recognizes that Abby has suffered greatly, and is okay with letting her go. But her sense of guilt & trauma drives her to violence. She says, “I can’t let you go.” “I can’t”, not “I won’t.” I was very worried that she’d kill Abby cuz I knew that once she killed her and felt NOTHING… she’d TRULY hit rock bottom, and be in DEEP trouble (mentally). Thankfully, she finds the resolve to let it go. Abby had Lev to help her to not cross that line (with Dina and Ellie), and throw away the work she had done towards being better. Ellie had no one but herself (and maybe a little help from a memory of Joel). I really don’t think she forgives Abby, like a lot of people believe. She simply lets her go because she realizes it won’t fix anything. Certainly wouldn’t help her to forgive herself (which is what she TRULY needs, even if she doesn’t realize. She needs to let go of all the guilt she is feeling, something that Joel wouldn't want for her one bit. All he wanted was for her to be happy & safe). Her quest for revenge was ultimately coming from a place of wanting to express her love for Joel, while trying to alleviate the deep guilt she felt. In Ashley Johnson's words, Ellie feels absolutely NOTHING in the mooment where she is strangling Abby. This scares her. And at the end… She thinks back to her last conversation with Joel, with sadness, some regret, and above all… a DEEP sense of love. She’s always felt that she doesn’t matter, and Joel tells her (via subtext) that her life DOES have value. He did what he did out of love for her, after all (and cuz he didn’t want to lose her). She lays him to rest, spiritually. I hope that she can now begin her journey towards healing, being better and finding a new purpose for herself. “No matter what, you keep finding something to fight for.” - Joel “I'm not going to lie, this is a pretty messed up world. It won't be easy. The thing you always have to remember is that, life is worth living! Find your purpose and fight for it. I see so much strength in you. I know you'll turn out to be the woman you're meant to be.” - Anna, in a note she wrote to Ellie
For us early adopters this is a bittersweet moment. It was nice going on this journey with you which started in the winter for myself. I was going through some things and your content was much needed and appreciated. Thank you. Now let me watch this lol. 😊
1:37:01 hahaha, the way you just blew that popsicle stand and yeeted out of town. I've honestly never seen it done that way. You played this game like an 80s action movie. No slowing down for ammo, no reloading, no looking back. I can't tell if it's crazy, impressive or just crazy impressive.
When Dina says "I'm not gonna do this again" she's referring to Seattle. When she was sick, Dina had to stay behind in the theater while Ellie went on her hunts for Tommy or Abby. Dina was stuck there, sick, pregnant, and alone, worrying about Ellie. It's the same thing when Ellie leaves for the last time to finish off her revenge journey. Dina refuses to be put in that situation again; waiting for someone who may or may not be dead, when she has a baby to take care of.
I'm guessing a 3rd game would be about the Fireflies regrouping and maybe Ellie getting the chance to decide her own fate again. Excellent playthrough! The difference between modern playthroughs vs playthroughs when the game first came out are much more open minded and I appreciate you analyzing the story for what it is. It's brutal and so personal that it takes that kind of retrospection. One of my fav games of all time.
There is no fucking medicine that can cure narcissistic psychopaths who are ready to cut little girls into pieces in abandoned hospitals in order to get another portion of lies likestyle: “she went became soup for a reason, for a big purpose” or “today we ate that cool guy because we have faith” )) Humanity is the only fucking cure for a lost world. For the rest of the freaks only silver sword)) Only Joel knew this, perhaps Ellie understood it through empathy. Grow up already, humanoids.
The third game will merely be about Abby and lev. Ellies storyline is over, she's in tommys city living a happy life with dina and their baby. Unless they make abby, ellie and every other faction have to be in the same side vs some sort of all out war vs the infected
Your videos for this game were AMAZING. This is my favorite game because of the feelings it made me feel. I feel weird but I'd laugh or have big smiles on my face when a scene would move you in the same way it moved me, knowing you were having the same incredible experience I had. So many people have different experiences with this game, and I think a lot of the enjoyment you can receive is your own personal ability to forgive Abby as you learn everything about her. I do think it's a bit funny that if it weren't for Ellie being so set on her revenge, Abby would not have survived. So in a way wanting revenge is good. With the first game having the themes of love and loss, and this game having the themes of hate and forgiving others, I would love to see a third game about self loathing and forgiving yourself. I could see Ellie learning about the fireflies and wanting to go to them to see if they found a new doctor that could perform the surgery. Partly because she feels that's supposed to be the purpose for her life, and partly because she feels she has nothing else to live for. Maybe Abby could be sent to escort her, and the two form an unlikely friendship each not realizing the person they are meeting is the other. Meanwhile, maybe Dina and Tommy learn about a girl with a bite that hasn't turned, and go to find Ellie and try to bring her back. At least that's my dream.
damnnn this game never fails to make me cry, fr had tears rolling down my face during the final fight between Ellie and Abby and then the scene between Joel and Ellie in the porch😭 i really hope we get a 3rd game one day 🙏
So I just finished your play through, it’s one of the best ones I’ve seen because you understand both sides. You wanted both to find their happiness which is where the conflict comes in and it hurts to see these characters not get what they need. Also your talking and exploring is 100% awesome, so don’t feel bad about that. It is why I watch these playthroughs, to gain a tiny bit of experiencing it for the first time again through someone else’s eyes. It’s the closest I can get to that, because sadly I can’t erase my memory and play it for the first time again, but yours was a great experience and quite close to my own feelings about the characters. So it was quite fun to watch in this respect. As for my thoughts on the game… which likely will be lost in all these comments, but nevertheless I’ll put them down. There were so many times I wanted, wished for some mutual enemy to rise up and for Ellie to realise her enemy isn’t the priority and that they need to fight together and then do the cliche thing of realising “we’re not all that different.” I’m glad they didn’t do that cliche, no matter how much I wished for it. Because they do in fact a have a mutual enemy, their own messed up need for revenge. However they yin-yanged each other. Ellie’s inability to play the song at the end hurts, and she leaves it behind. Sort of like a metaphor for leaving behind part of her, moving on finally. The question we are left with that I still wonder today, did she wander off alone like her self fulfilling prophecy of her fear she confessed to Sam, “ending up alone,” or did she head back to Jackson… Time will tell I guess if we get a part three that continues her story. I’ll be there day one if that happens, no matter the story. Of course we’d prefer to to be done finally with revenge, going back and seeking forgiveness from Dina, perhaps she’ll get the same response Ellie gave Joel, that Dina doesn’t know if she’ll forgive Ellie for leaving her and JJ, but she’d like to try. That’s all we can ask for from others, that we try, try to mend wounds, forgive, move on, hope they and we can be better than we were yesterday, and in that note we leave our “hero”, much like them in a fog of grey, not knowing what will happen, just life, which is hardly ever black or white. On a final note, your falling in love with Naughty Dog as a dev and your words leave me with the hope that you tackle their other great franchise, Uncharted. Here’s to hoping you do so someday, and if you do, I might as well also throw my own recommendation in regarding the 4.5 games, start with the first one, there will be some who say to skip it because the gameplay is very dated, and it is, but the story is worth it to start from the beginning.
thank you for this comment, it did not get lost!! i never really verbalized my thoughts about the idea of a mutual enemy, but it would have been so nice (albeit, cliche) for them to just see each other's sides and unite. but c'est la vie. i'm glad it wasn't traditional story behavior, much like you said. it was realistic. cheers!
The greatest tragedy of this franchise is what Ellie does to her family in the last couple hours of this game. She has everything. She survived Seattle, has a wife and son, and just can't let go of the past. And because of that, she loses everything. My hope is that we get Part 3 and she somehow manages to get it back in the end.
I think part of the reason she had to leave is because she doesn't actually want to live a peaceful domestic life. She wants to explore and travel. It comes out in her love of space, in her conversations with Dina... at one point she even specifically says she wouldn't want a farmhouse. Ellie is trying to be something she's not, she's trying to be the perfect girl FOR DINA but she's just not like that, they have different ideas about how to live.
6:15 Fun Fact! If you stay around the house without triggering the sheep sequence, the record plays all of Side 1 of the album. Then it just repeats. This includes the song “Ecstasy” that they kissed to on the dance floor. Please look it up. It’s such a powerful track. The light runs of banjo/mandolin instantly take me back to seeing the dance and kiss clip they released before we knew anything. It’s also the song Ellie starts to play at 31:28 before the dance scene flashback. It’s an overtly Christian song, but I think it’s told tongue-in-cheek, wishing for proof of faith and how nice that would be if only to have it. That really fits Ellie. It’s my favorite discovery from the game.
on the porch she says she could never forgive him, but would like to try...the memory of the conversation on the porch in her mind, her forgiving him, and him Joel forgiving Abby...the two become one, how crazy is that! ! that's why this game has won over 300 awards...!
Abby killing Joel is so crucial to this story. Abby starts the game having gotten the revenge she so desperately and diligently pursued. She let her hate totally consumer her, just as Ellie has at the end here. She made her hate her entire existence, eschewing true possible happiness with Owen by spurning him in favor of training, which mirrors Ellie's choice to walk out on her true happiness with Dina and JJ. The point of thrusting us reluctantly into Abby's shoes is the idea: is revenge truly worth it, and can one be redeemed? It even goes further back to what Joel was trying to BS to Ellie at the end of the second game. "You have to find something to fight for." Joel found Ellie. Abby found Lev. Joel was a lost man who was saved by the will to fight for a young girl. Abby was a lost woman who was saved by the will to fight for a young boy. The parallels between Joel, Ellie and Abby are truly incredible. They're all the same - they're HUMAN. They're just all at different points in the road. Naughty Dog got destroyed by angry "fans" who hated the game for taking something they love away from them. Understanding and appreciating this game requires EMPATHY, which is the entire purpose of it's narrative. If we can't at least understand Abby and who she is and respect her tenacity for redemption, then we've missed the point. We don't have to like her (I LOVE her), but the best way to understand each other is to walk in each other's shoes. I've enjoyed watching you play this series so much, because you are clearly an empathetic person. You allow yourself to feel for even the most minor of barely mentioned NPCs, and you openly feel for the story, and very concisely showed your grasp of the narrative. I've definitely subbed, and look forward to watching more of your series in the future. Thank you for UNDERSTANDING! This game series continues to devastate me, but it is indeed a masterpiece, and so brave of a AAA game studio to even attempt.
Annnnd one of my absolute favorite moments in the game is 1:37:38 when Ellie drops into the pool area of the resort. This introduces “Young Men Dead” playing like The Doors at the end of Apocalypse Now. The music choice was so perfect. It’s Ellie’s final descent into hell. I also love how after playing 30 hours of shades of gray the developers give us an arena to destroy objectively horrible people. It’s a great catharsis. But wow. Between “Ecstasy” and “Young Dead Man” they covered a lot of ground musically. :-)
Abby ended up with Lev who is like Ellie from part 1. Abby lost everything but got a reason to live from Lev. Just like Joel. Ellie recognised it at the end. But she still couldn't let Abby go because of her obsession. What really made her so bound for revenge was that she was angry at herself for torturing Joel mentally, just as Abby had tortured Joel physically. And she had never reconciled with him before he died. In the end what saved Abby was the image of Joel at the porch. Ellie realised that she HAD, in a roundabout way reconciled with Joel. It wasn't perfect, but life is messy. What's important is that Joel knew she still loves him. Why else would she "like to try"? And Joel was not about revenge, he would not have wanted Ellie to go after Abby. He would have wanted her to stay right there--where she is safe. Because Ellie is the one thing he cares about more than everything else put together. Which is why he "would do it all over again".
I think part of why, in my opinion, that Ellie couldn't let it go that Abby had killed Joel is because Abby took away that chance for her and Joel to get back to where they'd been before. But I also think it was partly anger at herself for hanging on to her own anger and not being able to see where Joel had been coming from until it was too late. Her and Joel had started to make up the night before it all started, and then the next day he was gone forever. That chance for her to get back to that place with Joel was gone forever, and there was probably a part of her that wondered whether or not Joel thought maybe she hated him when he died. I definitely agree that Abby got the short end of the stick when it came down to it. I did NOT want to like Abby when I came into this and saw Joel die, and then BAM...she easily became my favorite character. I'm genuinely tied between whether I like Abby or Ellie more; most of the time, I like them equally. They're like...two sides of the same coin when it really comes down to it. T_T
the way you cry is so hilarious to me and it makes the sad scene we are watching oddly funny and I didn't expect that. lmao. again, best play through I've seen of this game. And I've watch an unhealthy amount of playthroughs.
Eralia about Ellie wanting to go after Abby: "Dude, going after her, what is that gonna do?" Also Eralia about Abby massacring Joel in front of Ellie: "I mean, he DID piss some major players off, at least he chilled for a couple of years..." So, wait... Joel deserves being chased after but not Abby? :D
This was a hell of a journey Eralia! Im glad we got to the end and Im really proud of you! Been watching your videos since you played the first TLOU and I loved it all. And yes I think youre right. Joel would go to the deepest parts of hell to get revenge if Ellie was killed, but he would like her to live her life instead of going after revenge. Thats what it points out. And in the end we can see that Ellie finally forgave Joel and could remember him the way he deserves to, and not just in a pool of blood. I see hope in this finale, even tho Ellie lost everything, she still has her life and a town to go back to. And she will always remember her father figure. Thanks for the ride Eralia! Looking forward to seeing you play another story driven games like this. Love!
Thank you for this awesome playthrough. I've enjoyed every moment of you experiencing this game. The beautiful parts, the difficult parts, its such a journey and I've really enjoyed your commentary and your heart for what the characters are experiencing and going through. I can't wait to join you for more playthroughs and reactions! Much love!
When you pick up any item for crafting such as the scissors, they don't always give you 1 of that item. Pay attention in your crafting menu at the item. There's a circle around it. When you pick up an item it may only fill up 1/4, 1/2, or 3/4 of that circle. But once the circle is full, you'll have 1 out of 3 of that item. Hope I'm making some sense.😂
Dunno if you’ll see this but, regardless, I wanted to let you know that you have easily become one of my favorite let’s players to watch. Not only do you catch the little details in seemingly mundane or linear portions of the games you play (and obviously this is something that Naughty Dog likes to do and does exceptionally well with), but your emotional complexity and intelligence is just fuckin amazing. It’s something that, especially in regards to THIS game franchise, I honestly haven’t managed to find in most mainstream let’s players on this platform. I’m glad that I decided to follow your channel because, not only are you a delight to watch and listen to, but you’re capacity to understand the depths and emotional layers of stories is really amazing. Keep up the good work!
Just wanna say thanks for sharing your playthrough of both games. Made me, kind of, experience the whole story again for the first time and I cried like a baby with you. I needed to get it out after not crying a single time after 16 playthroughs.
Fun fact: The big rattler aka Guy Fieri is Abby's irl husband. And the prisoner Ellie freed at 1:50:35 is Ellie, Abby and Guy Fieri's irl Dungeon Master.
One of the best playthroughs i've ever seen of this game and i've watched way too many of them. Well done and thanks for sharing your experience! subbed for sure for the long haul
As much as it sucks that Ellie seemingly doesn't play guitar anymore, there are two things to keep in mind: 1. it is entirely possible to relearn how to play in her state (Famous guitarist, Django Reinhardt relearned how to play the instrument after an accident properly fucked up one of his hands). So, in a way... it's a bit of a metaphor for Ellie's current mental state. She is injured... but all hope isn't lost. With some time and effort, she can get back to a good place again 2. MORE IMPORTANTLY: playing the guitar is something that was more of Joel's thing. Ellie's main thing is drawing + painting etc. That's how we meet her at the beginning of the game: she is sketching. She continues to do so throughout the game. But, after Joel's demise, she is unable to draw his eyes. She can draw everyone else's eyes just fine. But at the very end of the game, when she arrives at the farm again, you can check her journal and see some of the stuff she wrote + drew. The last thing is a sketch of Joel, sitting on a porch, playing guitar. Only this time, she managed to draw his eyes. It's not from a straight-on angle, we see the side of his head... but the fact that she can draw Joel, and his eyes again... gives me a lot of hope.
Joel was also working on a guitar the day he ran into Abby. It was set up on his workbench, having not yet been strung. Ellie could string it to play left-handed.
@@SidPhoenix2211I mean it was pretty much done. Idk I just think it could be a decent little wrinkle to add to the next game. If it’s about Ellie at all anyways.
Thank you so much for playing this amazing game series, and I am so excited to see what happens next for Ellie and Abby. I loved your perspective and open mindedness surrounding the plot. This was one of the most respectful and entertaining playthroughs of this game on youtube. Really can't wait to see what games you play next, id love to see you play To The Moon (very emotional) and Outlast (V scary). Thank you so much for these videos, theyve been a bit of a lifeline for me when ive been pretty depressed recently so it's very appreciated. Thank you Eralia
It really is a bitter sweet ending eralia this has been such a joy to watch🤗 full of your happiness & insightfulness at playing this series 🙌 thank you & look forward to all the adventures you have for us next, take care & sending good vibes and sunshine smiles 😻💜🌻🌻🐝
i know i’m hella late to this play through, stumbled upon your channel like a month ago. binged your TLOU series and wow your insight and openmindedness is a god send. most people don’t understand the narrative druckman tried to drive here. a story about complete dread, desd set on revenge the ENTIRE time, and finally an ending with forgiveness, too little too late? maybe, but either way i’ve seen many people play this but i haven’t seen one quite like yours. enjoyed crying my eyes out with you in this episode haha, keep up the good work
Loved your play through, I always wait to the final episode so I don’t have to wait and I can watch it all in a couple of sessions. I’m glad you came up in my suggested feed, love your content.
Has HBO stopped people from uploading reactions to the show? Been over a month since Eralia uploaded a reaction to the show. Also, I know a lot of people did not like TLOU2, either because of Joel's death or the fact that the game has you play as Abby, but I fucking loved it! Loved the change in perspective. Loved that Eralia loves part 2. 😊
I’m glad I went in this journey with you. I have played the game before but I decided to play through with you which I finished a couple of days before you. It’s a masterpiece of a story but the part 2 game mechanics are top tier and makes for replay ability as I’ve played around 4 times now. Thanks again
this is the first time i've seen someone dodge abby's initial lunge, i didnt even know you COULD do that lmaooo i thought it was the scripted part of the fight
It’s taken me five playthroughs in order to be able to understand the emotions portrayed in this game, me and a lot of other people were enraged by this game because of Joel becoming soft and getting killed because of it and Ellie letting Abby go, now I can see the themes of this game in the true sense Naughtydog wanted us to see them. This was a beautiful game and I loved that my favorite game series was my introduction to your channel. I am excited to see what game you play next, thank you for everything eralia you are a gem on this platform
It's unfortunate how many people can't grasp that between the time jump and being in a safer community, that Joel wouldn't be as effective as he once was. Truly baffling to me, but I think bias and anger get in the way of clear thinking. I'm glad you came around and experienced that growth. You'll be a better person for it
It’s insane how many cults or clans exist after the outbreak in TLOU like: the fireflys, the rattlers, the scars, the WLF wolfs & lowkey the fedras too all they stories are so addicting interesting..
30:18 it was a nice touch when you started to sing joel's song before ellie it always brakes my heart a lot when ellie ditched joel in the party . it's like you said it, she was gonna to regret those words. luckylily, she came back to talk to him . Thank you so much for this journey. I'm sad that it ended but I'm glad that you made us part of this
@@ozzell she fought for joel, and for her family.... ultimately sacrificing her family in exchange for her mental peace. i thought her family might just be enough to appease her and give her something to fight for, but it just wasn't enough. what possibly could be??
@@eralia Hard to say. One theory I have is she remembered the Joel porch flashback for a reason. "I don't think I can forgive you for that. But I'd like to try". It might be hard for Dina to forgive Ellie. Doesn't mean it's not possible given enough time. Ellie forgave Joel eventually. In the original script they had Ellie pick up JJ's toy before she left the farm. It was changed to not make the ending too obvious. But it's a valid interpretation that she hopes for an eventual reconciliation with Dina. Another possibility is she needs to do something good, like Abby did with Lev. Although bringing up JJ would fit that very well.
@@ozzell It's too bad too many people don't know about that deleted scene. Also, she obviously came from Jackson to the farm and not straight from Santa Barbara. She had all new clothes, her fingers were healed, and she had Dina's bracelet back on, which she did not have when she was in Santa Barbara. It's obvious that they are at least in contact with each other if not back together again.
Hey Eralia, i know im far far too late but i finished both Games a few weeks ago for the second time since Release and i freakin live the to the max. The a few days later i startet watching u playing them and i so enjoy this emotional Rollercoaster and it was fun watching someone who is emotional capable to understand and feel what is going in in These two Games. The circle of violence the unnecessary deaths of all those people it still Shakes me to tears. I think its THE masterpiece of all Games for a long time to come and it was so fun watching u Play these. I thank u deeply for that Journey. 🙏🏻
TLoU 1 was about what people would do, good or bad, for love. TLoU2 was about the cycle of hate and being able to get past it. That cut scene at the party is going to be a gut to the knife when Pedro and Bella do it again.
Abby isn't bit -- the prisoner was telling her allies that *Ellie* has a visible bite mark on her hand, and pointed her gun at Ellie in a moment of panic. So many people misinterpret that scene, I wish whoever was responsible for subtitles had included some closed captioning for that scene: *Prisoner: "She's [Ellie is] bit!"
Man, this was one of those series where you hate to see it end. Your playthroughs of both games were nothing short of extraordinary and I honestly felt like I had finished playing the game for a second time. Your reactions and emotions were so similar to how I felt playing this game. Honestly it was such a wonderful experience and I’m so happy to have been here for the ride. I don’t know where you plan on going after this but I’ll be there. That’s for damn sure. Stay awesome Eralia. 💙
If you want to play another intense, story driven, and emotional game, I recommend Detroit: Become Human. Or if you want less intense and more mystery/thriller, definitely try Life is Strange. If you want another Naughty Dog experience, try the Uncharted games out! The first one is a little dated, but Uncharted 4 is an absolute masterpiece and completely worth playing the previous games for.
How did homegirl play the ENTIRE game without realizing the resources were divided into quarters lol
Haha I just made a similar comment. Amazing.
entire 2 games
I played both games multiple times. Never knew it either, until your comment here.
what does that even mean? divided into quarters?
@@Theorangecrushgamer All the resources for crafting in both games are picked up as 1/4, 1/2, and full circles of the item. You need a full circle to equal 1 full resource. When Eralia picked up the blade resources, they were only a 1/4 each.
I'm just so glad that in his dying moments, Joel knew that Ellie didn't hate him.😊
And equally it makes Ellie’s motivation for wanting Abbie dead so much more weighty. It’s not just the fact she took Joel. But considering Ellie forgave him literally hours before Abbie took away the chance of any redemption of their relationship.
Yeah! It seems Joel was smiling at the end
Damn, why is it raining in my house?
@@karlwilker579 I feel you man that ending where Ellie wants to try and forgive Joel always gets me teary eyed
This game is a masterpiece for me.
i couldn't agree more to your statement. This game is indeed a masterpiece for me too
Thinking that Abby has a more valid point for revenge because it was her dad killed..Joel was not Elliie'dad ,and this is the true problem, even if they have respect and love friendship too..if Joel was Ellie true dad ,events were totally different.
The song is for sarah
Ellie’s greatest fear in part one was ending up alone.
Also ironically Abby and Lev would be dead if Ellie hadn’t left to find them.
As Joel and Tommy,if they not found Abby..
Ironically Abby and Lev wouldn’t be alive if Abby hadn’t spared Ellie a second time.
It's the cycle of complex consequences. ❤❤❤
@@Dark__Thoughts in another timeline they would actually make good friends.
22:28 Joel wouldn't get involved in a vengeful quest in the first place. We find a note in a shiv door in the first game written by a grieving mother who takes up arms and swears revenge for her son who was murdered by FEDRA. Upon reading this Joel simply says, "Well with that kind of thinking, no one wins."
When Ellie says that "Joel would be halfway to Seattle already", Tommy says, "No, he wouldn't."
He's right.
That last scene with joel always makes me tear up. Sorta like THE ENTIRE GAME
:')
I very rarely cry to stuff but when Joel was lowkey crying at the end, it was hard not to. Something that always makes me cry is seeing another man cry.
@@sirfrancisgaming9438 Especially a man as strong as Joel is.
:')
Man, what a good and just cozy series.
I know she has a cozy and chill vibe kinda like gabsmolders
😂 SO COZY
Such a cozy series indeed 😂 😂
“shit happens, and we move on”. even in the beginning, she said “if it had been one of us joel would’ve been half way to seattle by now”… tommy says “no, he wouldn’t have…” (most underrated comment on joel in the whole story).
ellie’s mission was all about the guilt that she had for not being able to finally forgive joel and mend things with him.
what an interesting take! joel would've just been happy with his sheep, ellie, and his guitar. :')
im sorry but nobody can convince me if ellie got killed in that fashion in front of Joel that he wouldn't seek revenge. that's all he had.
@@ghostyhype_btw4303 there is a deleted scene where tommy said to ellie that joel didnt seek revenge for sarah, his suicide attempt in the hbo show cross confurms that.
@@vault29a wym? tommy literally killed the person who killed sarah?
The cracked paint on the window showing all the scars from the journey but in the end she's still there and can live on.
how awesome!!
They could both die in the first hour of part 3 and I wouldn't feel a thing.
i hated that scene because of how difficult it was to play, emotionally!! which is also why i loved it!
@@eralia it must have been difficult on the slow thumbs too!! Happy you’re back!
I never, not for a moment, felt for Abby. Not for a second. When the game forced me to start playing as Abby, I deleted it. I watched some play throughs and my disappointment was confirmed on every level. I'm glad some players enjoyed the game but I don't think it should exist.

51:39 Abby says "Scooch", which is a callback to TLOU1 when Joel tells Ellie to scooch so that he can get back on the horse
Which itself was a callback to the start of TLOU1, when Joel comes home and Sarah is sleeping on the couch.

Thank you again!
thanks for watching!!
The thing with the 4 underlying themes is extremely beautiful. I didn't even thought that way. But suddenly I just loved this game more than before, and it was already my top favourite!
Thank you!
You would not believe the amount of tears that came out of my face.
More likely Ellie. She also has Joel's wood carved animals in the farm house, which Dina also put into her room at the end.
Even though I've played through the game dozens of times, I have thoroughly enjoyed watching you experience it for the first. Thanks for sharing your journey!
aww this means a lot to me! thank you kinja!! :D ❤
One of the greatest games I've ever played, I understood and sympathized with every character and I respect the writer's for not letting people off the hook and making them answer for there actions good or bad. Everything about this game was great. The music, the graphics, the game play, story, the acting,. You really made me think about different perspectives in every situation
thank you for watching and joining me! :)
This is just my two cents on Ellie's thought process in Santa Barbara + the overall ending:
After Abby spares her + Dina and gives Ellie the chance to experience a peaceful family life with a partner and child, Ellie finally starts to experience the fulfilling life that Joel wanted her to experience when he saved her from the hospital, not for her to waste it on grief and regret.

The song Ellie wrote into her diary thingy is actually out . Shawn James - The Guardian (Ellie's song)
i found it after i finished the game the first time and it s amazing! sooo much feel in that song, especially for someone who played the game. Go and check it out, won't regret it : )
I don't think that's anything official, just a song based on her lyrics from her journal. Basically a fan creation from a musician.

thank you so much!!
2:12:51 "Wow... WTF... [claps]" - YES. OMG finishing this game was such a moment in my life. I will never forget it. Standing ovation.
Seth is the luckiest man in the entire series ….. wanted to go up against Ellie and Joel …. Two of the greatest killers in the series
Yeah, he should have been terrified of Ellie. Lucky for hin, Joel saved him.
Be careful ,we don't know this Seth, mmaybe a dangerous spychopath..lol
Yeah I was thinking something similar thing during this reaction. Someone needed to remind Seth at that moment that they send Joel out to end things. He's got one response to conflict and it's devastating. Surely it's understandable that Seth wouldn't know how lethal Ellie and Dina are (even by just underestimating them as teenage girls)... but I imagine word must have gotten around over those 4 years that Joel puts bodies down. But of course Ellie has probably caught more bodies than Joel across the 2 games, and half of them up close and personal with that knife. Seth is a lucky SOB three times over.
Maria saved that man's life!
Open ended finish so people can thing whatever they want until otherwise is said.
it's safe to say she goes back to Jackson to find her, after the farm.
Great playthrough series and I pray we get a part 3 one day!
haha thank you nick! ❤

Yeah, can't play uncharted after playing that😅
the first games are kind of meh for me. fun though they are. it's the fourth one that is more like tlou in terms of how the characters and the relationships are more in focus, because it was written and directed by the same person. i will say though, that i think playing them in order (they're pretty easy to get through) might make you appreciate the characters more. i didn't, i played the fourth one first and played one, two and three after, i still enjoyed it. but it's also just a completely different genre, think indiana jones or something like that.
She says, “I can’t let you go.” “I can’t”, not “I won’t.”
I was very worried that she’d kill Abby cuz I knew that once she killed her and felt NOTHING… she’d TRULY hit rock bottom, and be in DEEP trouble (mentally).
“No matter what, you keep finding something to fight for.” - Joel
“I'm not going to lie, this is a pretty messed up world.
thank you for being here for the journey! glad i could help make you smile!
I'm 31 min into the video and you started singing.
Love the emotion. It actually made me cry.
Now I'm gonna finish the rest of the video.
LOL thank you!! i cackled at this comment :)
30:17 Thank you for your show, you have a great voice!
One of my fav games of all time.
agreed!! thank you for joining me :')
At least that's my dream.
thank you so much for watching ❤️
damnnn this game never fails to make me cry, fr had tears rolling down my face during the final fight between Ellie and Abby and then the scene between Joel and Ellie in the porch😭 i really hope we get a 3rd game one day 🙏
thanks for watching!! one of the most emotional experiences i've ever had :')
There were so many times I wanted, wished for some mutual enemy to rise up and for Ellie to realise her enemy isn’t the priority and that they need to fight together and then do the cliche thing of realising “we’re not all that different.”
I’m glad they didn’t do that cliche, no matter how much I wished for it. Because they do in fact a have a mutual enemy, their own messed up need for revenge. However they yin-yanged each other.
Ellie’s inability to play the song at the end hurts, and she leaves it behind. Sort of like a metaphor for leaving behind part of her, moving on finally. The question we are left with that I still wonder today, did she wander off alone like her self fulfilling prophecy of her fear she confessed to Sam, “ending up alone,” or did she head back to Jackson…
Time will tell I guess if we get a part three that continues her story.
My hope is that we get Part 3 and she somehow manages to get it back in the end.
i agree.
It’s my favorite discovery from the game.
awesome!!
on the porch she says she could never forgive him, but would like to try...the memory of the conversation on the porch in her mind, her forgiving him, and him Joel forgiving Abby...the two become one, how crazy is that! ! that's why this game has won over 300 awards...!
incredible!!
Your singing at 30:10 was beautiful. Great voice. Really enjoying your letsplay too. Thank you :)
❤
Annnnd one of my absolute favorite moments in the game is 1:37:38 when Ellie drops into the pool area of the resort. This introduces “Young Men Dead” playing like The Doors at the end of Apocalypse Now. The music choice was so perfect. It’s Ellie’s final descent into hell.
I also love how after playing 30 hours of shades of gray the developers give us an arena to destroy objectively horrible people. It’s a great catharsis.
But wow. Between “Ecstasy” and “Young Dead Man” they covered a lot of ground musically. :-)
they really did!!
This
I think part of why, in my opinion, that Ellie couldn't let it go that Abby had killed Joel is because Abby took away that chance for her and Joel to get back to where they'd been before.
🙏
Eralia about Ellie wanting to go after Abby: "Dude, going after her, what is that gonna do?"
Also Eralia about Abby massacring Joel in front of Ellie: "I mean, he DID piss some major players off, at least he chilled for a couple of years..."
So, wait... Joel deserves being chased after but not Abby? :D
It’s been such a pleasure to follow you through this journey, Eralia! I’m very pleased to have found you. Excited to see what comes next here ❤
thank you so much!!
Love!
thank you so much, paulo!!
Damn… when e sings Future Days, that was such a nice moment. “Clip that”
❤
Thank you for this awesome playthrough. I've enjoyed every moment of you experiencing this game. The beautiful parts, the difficult parts, its such a journey and I've really enjoyed your commentary and your heart for what the characters are experiencing and going through. I can't wait to join you for more playthroughs and reactions! Much love!
thank you so much ;~; i'm gonna cry!! lol
Keep up the good work!
thank you so much!! ❤️
You uploaded the final chapter one day before the 10th Anniversary of THE LAST OF US. That's spectacular timing!
Just wanna say thanks for sharing your playthrough of both games. Made me, kind of, experience the whole story again for the first time and I cried like a baby with you. I needed to get it out after not crying a single time after 16 playthroughs.
that's awesome! thanks for watching ❤️
Such an amazing story, thanks for sharing your experience with it!
thank YOU for watching!!
Fun fact: The big rattler aka Guy Fieri is Abby's irl husband. And the prisoner Ellie freed at 1:50:35 is Ellie, Abby and Guy Fieri's irl Dungeon Master.
JJ= Jesse and Joel
no way!!
One of the best playthroughs i've ever seen of this game and i've watched way too many of them. Well done and thanks for sharing your experience! subbed for sure for the long haul
thanks so much!!
As much as it sucks that Ellie seemingly doesn't play guitar anymore, there are two things to keep in mind:
1. it is entirely possible to relearn how to play in her state (Famous guitarist, Django Reinhardt relearned how to play the instrument after an accident properly fucked up one of his hands). So, in a way... it's a bit of a metaphor for Ellie's current mental state. She is injured... but all hope isn't lost. With some time and effort, she can get back to a good place again
@@tim.noonan possibly, but i don't think she knows how to build one lol
Thank you Eralia
i'm glad i could help cheer ya up! thank you for joining me! ❤
It really is a bitter sweet ending eralia this has been such a joy to watch🤗 full of your happiness & insightfulness at playing this series 🙌 thank you & look forward to all the adventures you have for us next, take care & sending good vibes and sunshine smiles 😻💜🌻🌻🐝
thank you ❤
i know i’m hella late to this play through, stumbled upon your channel like a month ago. binged your TLOU series and wow your insight and openmindedness is a god send. most people don’t understand the narrative druckman tried to drive here. a story about complete dread, desd set on revenge the ENTIRE time, and finally an ending with forgiveness, too little too late? maybe, but either way i’ve seen many people play this but i haven’t seen one quite like yours. enjoyed crying my eyes out with you in this episode haha, keep up the good work
Some people don't realize that Joel and Ellie were just beginning to mend their relationship and Joel dies right before they could.
Loved your play through, I always wait to the final episode so I don’t have to wait and I can watch it all in a couple of sessions. I’m glad you came up in my suggested feed, love your content.
thank you so much!!
It might be because she was deployed, may not have had time. She finished the game weeks ago, these have just been releasing on a schedule
@user-jt1js5mr3f Oh damn! Thank you for that!
I only follow her here on RUclips do I didn't know she got deployed.
I appreciate the answer
@@hersh23 oh course! There may be more info in her community tab, I know I saw a picture of her on deployment
I’m glad I went in this journey with you. I have played the game before but I decided to play through with you which I finished a couple of days before you. It’s a masterpiece of a story but the part 2 game mechanics are top tier and makes for replay ability as I’ve played around 4 times now. Thanks again
thank you for doing that, and i'm glad you had fun!! cheers!
When you sing future days by joel I literally tearing up.. damn I missed him so much
❤
100% Ellie calling JJ, "such a big boy, that's my buddy" That is ABSOLUTELY Ashley as Pike talking to Grog xD
this is the first time i've seen someone dodge abby's initial lunge, i didnt even know you COULD do that lmaooo i thought it was the scripted part of the fight
LOL if anyone can do it, it's me 😂
It’s taken me five playthroughs in order to be able to understand the emotions portrayed in this game, me and a lot of other people were enraged by this game because of Joel becoming soft and getting killed because of it and Ellie letting Abby go, now I can see the themes of this game in the true sense Naughtydog wanted us to see them. This was a beautiful game and I loved that my favorite game series was my introduction to your channel. I am excited to see what game you play next, thank you for everything eralia you are a gem on this platform
Wow, that shows a lot of growth on your part. Well done.
It's unfortunate how many people can't grasp that between the time jump and being in a safer community, that Joel wouldn't be as effective as he once was. Truly baffling to me, but I think bias and anger get in the way of clear thinking. I'm glad you came around and experienced that growth. You'll be a better person for it
thank you for watching! i'm glad i could make an impact :)
It’s insane how many cults or clans exist after the outbreak in TLOU like: the fireflys, the rattlers, the scars, the WLF wolfs & lowkey the fedras too all they stories are so addicting interesting..
It’s not that insane. Humans are tribal, they’re just much smaller tribes after the outbreak.
I mean, what else would you expect? Cults exist even in the real world

30:18 it was a nice touch when you started to sing joel's song before ellie
it always brakes my heart a lot when ellie ditched joel in the party . it's like you said it, she was gonna to regret those words. luckylily, she came back to talk to him .
Thank you so much for this journey. I'm sad that it ended but I'm glad that you made us part of this
thank you for watching!
I hope that Ellie is fine, as Abby is after finally being with the fireflies again. It can’t be for her to end up alone
At least mentally she's on a better way now, but it really cost her everything.
I think Part 3 will be ending of Ellie's story. Her finding to something new to fight for.
I’ve played through this a couple of times, but seeing you being you so emotionally invested made it worth watching all over again. Thank you
❤️🙏
i don’t want it to end 😭
Thank you for the awesome playthrough and letting me relive this incredible game one more time... what a journey.
thank you!!
1:43:00 never before seen a player storm into this compound without reloading upfront AND make it through…
No joke! How she NEVER fully reload any gun was unnerving, but still the best playthrough I saw of this game :D
LOL
Eralia delivering a commencement adress at Annapolis in 15 years: "scream, close your eyes, and beleive."
😂
Abby isn't bit -- the prisoner was telling her allies that *Ellie* has a visible bite mark on her hand, and pointed her gun at Ellie in a moment of panic. So many people misinterpret that scene, I wish whoever was responsible for subtitles had included some closed captioning for that scene: *Prisoner: "She's [Ellie is] bit!"
You'd assume it would be clear after ellie screams "don't point that fucking thing at me!" Right after cause they pull a gun in her 😂
Man, this was one of those series where you hate to see it end.
thank you so much!!! cheers to the next journey ahead. 🍻❤
