Great video. Salifert is my go to for test kits. Letting the first drop out on the second solution is the way to go with this test for sure. I wish they redesigned that bottle so the first drop did not have to be wasted. It would also be nice if Salifert had a high range Ca kit that does not need so much titration solution.
i have a question for you man! Why should there be an air bubble between the plunger and the fluid? I just bought the test and am waiting for it to arrive but doing the research now. Would the reading be inaccurate if the fluid was right below the plunger?
The pink tip thats on the end holds fluid in it. So without the bubble you'd be pulling in more than 1ml. And the directions in this video are different from the new version. Its now 10 drops of solution instead of 8👍
Wish you had done this video last Sept 2017. Please do all the Salifert ones, especially the dreaded phosphate. The only way I was able to get a decent way to "read" the color, was to use my smartphone to take a pic from above for three sections. Then zooming the 3 pics in my phone to better see by zooming in, which color is the best.
Hey Billy quick question, on my instructions it calls for 10 drops of the CA 2 instead of 8. Did I get an old test or something? The expiration date is 7/22
Hi Billy, I've watched your videos many times, followed all instructions for the new kits for Calcium / Alk / MG, however I'm unable to get the same results. If i put the pink tip, no matter many times I draw reagent the water level is 0.8 and bottom of plunger is 1.0. I'm doing tests on fresh Instant Ocean Reef Crystals and Calcium keeps coming back at 600+ and Magnesium is coming back at 1700+. I always have to use 1.2-1.5ML of the solution. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. I tried even without the cap, and made sure Water level was at 1.0, so i know exactly how much I have, and still it took 1.2ML+ for color to change. Any advice is helpful. I'm starting to think I have a bad kit.
Sometimes I have to empty the syringe and take the tip off and shake out any fluid still in it. It's tricky at first but when you get the hang of it it becomes really easy
Instructions to this kit might have changed since I uploaded this video
Thanks for the video!
Another good update Mr. Pipes.
SC Reefer yo. Thanks buddy
Great Video Billy...good stuff nice and simple way to test your calcium...
Thanks Ash 👍

+AlexGs Aquarium totally agree
Thanks for the great info. Cool video
+American Reefing thanks
Thank you Billy your video just helped me 👍
Make sure you read the directions. Your kit might be newer than mine
440 is calcium hardness or calcium consentration? pl. An
Whatever the instructions say
This my kit of choice but I find the top numbers of the 1ml syringe wear away fast.
Your totally right about that. I got a 10 pack of the same syringes on eBay for like $3-4
the newest box, just bought today, does not call for us add any drops prior to the syringe. Really threw me off.
Yeah I made this video 3 years ago. I pinned my comment from 2 yrs ago that the instructions might have changed
Do you have a how to salifert iodine test im looking every where and i cant find one
Sorry, but i don't
Thx Billy. Good helpful video.
Fishy Snowman sup fishy. Hopefully I'll see ya Saturday.
Billy Pipes Awesome 👏. I should be there. 👍👍. ✌🏼
Thank you for the video👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
👍👍
Hey Billy are you taking the reading from the bottom of the plunger or the liquid line?
Bottom of the plunger.
Billy Pipes thank you ,just got the set of tester going to test today after work thank you👍
Ryan, Maccallum no prob. The directions might be a little different with the new kits but the plunger part is the same
So you ise the no2 and no3 kits and if so are thwy good?
After doing everything as u did the colour didn't change it reminds pink is that correct?
Double check your instructions. This is an older video. If you did it according to the new instructions then your calcium is over 500
So if your cal, alk and Mag are at your desired number then there is no need to Dose 2 part then. Correct?
If you have coral in your tank they will consume daily so depending on what type of coral you have the levels will change daily
I noticed you said 8 drops of ca-2. I have this same test kit and the instructions says to put 10 drops of ca-2?
You're correct. They have changed the instructions since I posted this video

Great video skills :)
my syringe draws the fluid to 8.0 instead of 8.5. is this a problem?
According to salifert it won't be accurate. Push the fliud out fast the pull fluid back in again and it will eventually hit .85
So whats the minimum lvl for coral? Like how many ppm? At least? Plz
420 ppm is natural seawater. Try to stay between 400-500

Mark Derail you got it👍.

DatKid X you probably have the newer one
Billy Pipes ok thanks!
great vid,, just did my first salifert water test. cal at 475 thanks for shearing.
Trying to shake while adding reagent. Not so easy.
I'll be using the RS titration bottle and holder. So much easier
Nice one again!
+K-reef Aquarium hobby thanks. Magnesium video is set for tomorrow 👍

Yeah the directions have changed since I made this video
@@BillyPipes oh ok lol
Very helpfull
hey asa. Thanks man
I didnt get a spoon with my kit....
Id definitely bring it back for an exchange
Thanx bud
Dave's Nano Tanks 👍
I spilled my RedSea Ca titration the other night. Myabe I'll give Salifert a short since I need a new one. :)
EDK ReefMeister I've done that before with my alk titration...I was pissed
8 drops of ca2? The instructions says 10.
The instructions have changed since I made this video
Thank God for youtube ...totally screwed up the 1st test 😅
The instructions might have changed from when I made this video
🙌🏽
Hey. What's up👍
👍
hey Rob 😁
Actually my instructions call for 10 drops
Yup, the test kit has changed since I posted this video. I pinned a comment about it in this comment section
I’m super unhappy with API. The freshwater kit has always worked for me, so I thought oh the saltwater kit should be perfect! Nope. So inaccurate
Yeah that sucks. It's why I switched to salifert
First
Channel Chupathingee 👍👍😁
Test kit is junk
Seems to be working good for me and my tanks🤷♂️
