For some reason, the video has become slightly out of sync, and so I apologise for that.
Quick history lesson;
The Illuminati once existed, as a secret society that intellegant scientists, philosophers etc were apart of. It was for their own protection from the Roman Catholic Church as the church would prosecute those with different views from the Bible etc. They no longer exist. Today celebrities play up to the idea of the Illuminati for commercial gain, to be talked about etc. If it really was an evil secret society they wouldn't be spoken about/wouldn't have glaringly obvious signs entwined in their music videos and so forth.
I love how symbolic this is. He's a scarecrow, but the crows are scaring him. And the fear is all in his mind.

It's even deeper than that. Look at what happens to all the great entertainers who eventually "wake up" or try "getting out of the game" once they realize what's behind the curtain. Oz is just a metaphor for fortune and fame or Hollywood. Once you're in, there's only one way out of the "game"

This isn't my favorite Michael song but this is one of his best vocals ever to me. The part at the very end when he does "you can't get out of the game" showcases his vocal ability, his belt, him singing bass, his run, his twinge of vibrato he did for a moment and even straight singing all showcased what he can do and it was still so soulful. Gotta love it!

I knew I missed Michael but after seeing someone else reprise a role and sing a song that was made famous by Michael really hit me. Don't get me wrong, Elijah did great, but it wasn't the same. He isn't Michael, and realizing that had me crying as soon as he started singing this song. Nobody will ever sing this song the way he did, nobody can play this role like he did. I miss him so much!

Man, I was disappointed solely for the fact that this is Michael's only feature in the movie and they got him locked up and unable to dance! Truly can't win!

Yet people only see him for what he did in the Jackson 5 and what he did before he died. Not many young people know what he did in the middle. Jackson was supreme as the Scarecrow. Vocally, acting and of course his dance moves realized are just ideal. #perfectcasting. This film version really needed Stephanie Mills. Ross whilst charming was just NOT an ideal nor convincing lil' girl Dorothy. Jackson rocked it to the core. And the rest of the cast was ideal as well.

I remember the first time I saw this movie in 1978 when I was 12 years old. It was on a field trip w/ my Jr. Hi Drama class in NYC. I got a souvenir movie book and stared at it endlessly, and one of the pics of the Scarecrow was promptly cut out and taped to my wall next to my bed. I had literally worn that book out from looking at it so much. (I have since gotten a nice "new" one from Ebay). This is the only version of "The Wiz" I ever knew. And knowing how I am about such things, I didn't even bother watching the new movie. I wouldn't have enjoyed it, b/c I would have spend the whole 2 hours comparing it to this one. And there's NO WAY I could have listened to someone else sing this song. This is Michael's song, period. Before "The Wiz" I liked Michael Jackson. My brothers played his albums, I watched the Saturday morning cartoon, and I knew all the songs. But it was b/c of Michael's role as the Scarecrow that I fell in LOVE w/ him at the ripe old age of 12. LOL! And I have loved him ever since.
