Elijah can sing, dance, AND act. Like he does all three exceptionally well lol. This live show was when I was 1st introduced to him, then the NES. I loved that he made this song his OWN. Need to see him in more things!!!
i remember when this aired & people were so negative about elijah kelley's performance just to say they liked mj's performane better (the same people who said this "wasn't the real wiz" even tho it was a stage musical first). i already knew who kelley was from the hairspray movie, like he is so so talented & did not deserve the backlash he got. he did such a great job!
The set was all wrong, it was supposed to be in the ghetto, I don't know what that was, but it was a few generations ago and ghettos definitely don't look like that anymore in fact they're disappearing, but it was good but will never take the place of the original because i.was a teen when that came out and some things aren't as good or never can be good as the original,....TOO ME 😂
I liked that there is a bit Scarecrow gets off the pole only to get chased and put back by the crows as part of the performance showing how toxic the crows are and how seemingly hopeless it is for Scarecrow
He did a great job. I didn't think no one could ever sing that song other than Michael but he proved me wrong. He kept it the same but also made it his own. I can only imagine how he must have felt when people had to hear it for the first time. Dont worry Sir. It was a job well done. Im sure Michael is smiling down on you with a big thumbs up!
I am a super fan of The WIZ. So the the original version is untouchable to me. But congratulations to Elijah Kelley for doing an good job in those shoes.
I love MJ and his version is a classic.. But this one takes it for me! Just the passion and soul Elijah has while he’s stuck on the pole.. Plus his ending riffs are stunning 😩 3:11 😩😩😩
Both great by the MJ classic version more soulful more funky Is including his adlibs the rifs And of course the dancing.. Honestly seaweed's version is great and A tribute to Michael's.
this lil dude was good, but Mike sets the bar and no one has touched it yet. You must've not heard Mikes riffs and his ending to the song. Mike is definitely the high standard and don't you forget that.
I was like 2 or 3 when this was on cable. I remembered everything! Once i found what it was called and could watch it all, i was so happy to re-live my childhood favorite! I like the original The Wiz, but i kinda prefer this more bcecause there's a little more beats and action to the music! No hate to the other movie and this is just MY OPINION!!!
I will say that while I love Jackson's version, the fact that MJ stayed on the pole was a great tragedy. I feel like if the movie let him do the choreography it would have made that movie scene even better.
The Wiz was one of my favorite musicals growing up. I think this version did a nice job upgrading it for today’s generation with people from today’s world. Amber completely killed her song, Mary did a good job as well as this young man. As someone who saw the original I prefer the sound of the 70’s version with Michael Jackson and Mrs Mabel King’s versions of the songs. They had more soul, these are a little more pop sounding. Nothing wrong with that, now there is an option and people can choose the one they prefer. RIP Michael and Ms Mabel!!!! I think they would be pleased..
It really shows how hard it is to recreate a show that was such a big hit. One of my dance teachers was in the original and said that he lived off the residuals for years. It's the original for me❤
@@saintclaire4897 Yes, nothing like the original version of anything. Must have been so cool to have a teacher in the original. I see why some folks will appear in 1 or 2 hits and step away, they can live off the money, fulfill a dream and leave the Hollywood BS behind….
Go head Elijah, singing like boss man and the one and only, Michael Jackson you singing that song how proud are we to hear you pay homage like that makes u, the listeners, very proud go ahead SANG that song
Congratulations Mr Kelley this was Not an easy task he completely Annihilated this performance and crazy thing is I just watched the real one last week so it’s fresh in my mind and he still blew me Away it’s never easy coming behind MJ and he would’ve been proud and gave his blessing ❤😢🙏🏼💐💐💐💐💐💐
I like Avery Wilson’s tour cast version of this song. But Elijah Kelley did such an awesome job of capturing the soul of this song, blending the MJ version with a modern feel. This is my favorite version. Awesome performance.
I love how, in the stage version of The Wiz, the crows know that Dorothy is there because she is sitting down in front of them whereas, in the film version, the crows don't realize that Dorothy is there until she comes out of hiding.
Marvelous. I love the song, and the singer that played the scarecrow was amazing and the costumes were remarkable, and the stage and background were terrific.
Only 2 words away from perfection. He missed "When the," in front of "World has got no shame" I only noticed because that my favorite song from the production and my favorite part of the song
I thought he looked, sounded, and name familiar. He's FUCKING SEAWEED!!!! He totally deserved this part!
I said the same thing! MJ would be so proud of him 💕💕
Ikr! I thought that too!
Is this Seaweed fella a character from a musical I haven’t heard of?

I hope you check him out in the 2007 Hairspray movie, if you haven’t already!
I just read he'll be playing Sammy Davis Jr in a upcoming Hulu series about him
He was fantastic n star
Elijah Kelly was also in RED TAILS, LEE DANIIEL'S THE BUTLER, and STAR.

@@FlicchikI mean understandable but this young man did his thing as well
Oh yes.
I know Kelley from his small part in Take The Lead with Antonio Banderas, he danced with the very talented Jenna Dewan.

The choreography give me goosebumps every time. The crows look like they’re having so much fun :)
The crows moves are amazing
Go Elijah. Michael's giving you a standing ovation in Heaven.
The crows cuttin up on this one! This is one of my favorite songs and Elijah did a great preformance.
The scarecrow and the crows were absolutely brilliant 👏🏾
Man…….that was really good. This guy should compete on the Masked Singer.
O that would be awesome
I liked that there is a bit Scarecrow gets off the pole only to get chased and put back by the crows as part of the performance showing how toxic the crows are and how seemingly hopeless it is for Scarecrow
I bet MJ would be proud of him ♥️
I believe the great MJ would be proud..full of joy 💛
You can say that again
elijah kelley is one hell of a performer
This is our first clue about the true intelligence of the Scarecrow: he knows the three laws of thermodynamics.
Those crows are funky, aren’t they? Loved this scene!

I feel the same way but this live version definitely holds its own up against the original
this is like how wicked looks on Broadway!! I absolutely love this version, and I think we need more.
This was epic! Even MJ couldn’t do a hand-spring like that!
Im honestly impressed. MJ is smiling down on him
Stepping in the biggest shoes that a guy possibly could do, and he pulls it off spectacularly!
This young man put his all into this. Mike would definitely be proud. These crows are actually better
I LOVED this when it aired on LIVE TV!! I just kept laughing because ToTo ran off the stage and never made it to Oz. 😂😂

Such a great opening, as you see how the scarecrow progressed in his thinking later on. It's never too late to change one's mind or direction in life.
