- Percussion represented by the Phantom Five and the Zombie Band (of the Haunted Mansion and The Nightmare Before Christmas, respectively), beside which this new Astral band rightfully belongs.
A little (longish) remix of the Astral Alley music from Night in the Woods. I wanted to showcase the different combinations of instrument tracks, which I think evoke very different feelings depending of what is present and what is absent.
If you enjoyed it, it can be downloaded here: mega.nz/#!WRRUkbYB!ypFpMrvvRP...
The Astral band pictures were borrowed from Temmie Plays! • 30 Minutes : Astral A...
The tuba summons the ancestral demons of your soul.
The saxophone’s tune bounces in your skull.
The accordion rises like a dark voice from a hole.
The percussion makes your skeleton dance to the call.
The violin’s heartstrings bring yours to the Alley Astral.
All the individual Astral wav files can be downloaded here, so you can make you're own mix of any of them: mega.nz/#!XVZFHaIY!cMiq72xjwX... Видеоклипы
Nothing messed me up as much as when I learned that the creator of the game lived in my town and all the sights in the game are in my own backyard..I love going to the train track now behind my house

The game states that these musicians in Mae's dream were called The Deep Hollow Hollerers, they were a band that died in the freezing cold of a blizzard. They seemed to play the songs they loved to the people they cared about and now do it to seemingly calm the ghosts of the afterlife. Which i think is beautiful and selfless in my eyes. It brings me comfort, sadness, and heartwarming nostalgia
So, Mei way listening to a band of spirits in her dreams? That sounds all of haunting, sad, peculiar and heartwarming at the same time. That technically means that these ghosts were entering Mei’s dreams and she therefore might be an exorcist.
I remember hearing a rumour about cats being able to see ghosts, so I guess it lines up a little.
This song has the single catchiest accordion tune I've ever heard.
You're definitely right, the feel of the song changes drastically depending on which instruments are and aren't present. I love how much of a difference that can make! It's like a completely new song every time it changes!

- NITW forever in my heart...
ok, so. i remember going to a lake in the middle of nowhere with some friends, and at nighttime, we were driving around on golfcarts. its hot out, and kinda humid. we get out and look up at the stars. holy shit. the stars. i had never seen that many stars. i grew up in a big city with loads of light pollution and never saw that many stars. we decided the lay down and look at the stars. i saw one shooting star go by, then another, and another. then it was a big meteor shower. watching that meteor shower, listening to this track, made it so magical. *sorry i just had a fond memory and wanted to share it k bye*
Wow really? This remix? I mean, it's only been around for a few months, but if that happened than I'm really touched.
*causally spams like button because they don't deserve only 3*
I love it when it happens. Outside, winter, camping can be beutiful.
This can be great outside, I don’t prefer it during the daytime, too hot and too likely to get sunburnt, the nighttime is peaceful and quiet and cold, just how I like nature.
*no please come back you seem cool*
This isn't just a song this is an experience
Absolutely.
And now this is an interesting spin on it.
Thanks for all the nice comments everyone. I'm glad you're enjoying it.
I do think this track pretty much as a poetry:
The 4 musicians represents mae and her friends, and their individual and combined music is a metaphor of their relationships and psycology:
13:28 mae's the violin: like when she went to college when she's alone she's sad and depressed
1:41 bea is the Accordion, she completes the violin's music diligently filling the gaps in its the music
2:15 gregg is the sax, their music combined is exuberant but can also go really slow, giving both the pace and time they need without worrying, just like true friends can do
12:48 angus is the horn, both calm and reassuring, and also connected to the sax by the metaphor of being the only 2 wind instruments
4:08 altough the music they produce individually can feel sad when they are all together it feels joyful
also, the sounds in the background (the bells) represent the outside, the so called "night in the woods" (wich is a metaphor in itself), not by chance, in fact, the background sounds have a nocturnal vibe
Fr
I never thought of it like that it really does fit them gives a new depth to the musicals to i like that theory. 👍
lol i see why is angus the bear and bea's the crocodile
Really cool
Same with the spirit animals in a way, people thought Gregg was a squirrel when he clearly is a fox. I believe it's more a spiritual connection. Bea is cold like an alligator, Angus is docile and peaceful, but also strong like a bear. Gregg is hyper and rambunctious like a squirrel, not entirely sure how Mae connects to the bird that appears of if she is even connected to that animal at all, it could be symbolic of Germ Warfare who is considered the 5th friend in a lot of fanart and promotional art in the game being with Mae, Gregg, Bea and Angus a lot of the time.
dayum that violin is haunting...
This violin is amazing. Makes me wanna learn to play!
one of the best showcases i've seen of a violin (or 2 in this case) to convey not just sound, but a feeling. An emotion.
A real one would’ve sounded even cooler
I like to think of it as someone who’s sad or going down a bumpy part of live, but still keeps their head up, the start of it bring the sad part and the chorus being where they keep their head up.

This song, even when I first heard it, gave me a strong feeling. Now when I hear it, it makes me cry. The Saxophone makes me think of someone making a long hard climb. Combined Acordian makes me think things are getting harder and more treacherous. The Tuba makes me think of someone bumbling through life blind. THEN! They add in the violin and the tears just start falling from my eyes. The violin makes me think of someone traveling a vast distance and seeing wonderful sights. I always get the feeling that they are on a train watching the hills and fields fly past because when I think of a violin played in that style I think of the countryside and I think travel and I think train.
What we see in the game (main melody): 1st violin, Accordion, Saxophone, Tuba.
What we don't see (main harmony): 2nd violin, percussion, Glockenspiel.
Main harmony is tuba and accordion
Catchiest...accordion.....ever.
I want `Catchiest.. Accordion.. Ever.` on a shirt like yesterday.
They really did my man Glockenspiel dirty
I wish I could accurately depict to people how much I appreciate each individual instrument playing at different times
Jesus do I love this game more than anything. The characters, The music, The lore... Everything. It really makes you feel bad, It makes you laugh, or hurt even. I hope I could create a game- just as good as this.
I found the game to be very "Meh". Bea's constant downer attitude was extremely irritating and how she felt like she was the only one who had problems and wrote Mae off as being stupid and childish.
The ending was also very disappointing, makes me feel like they're setting up to a sequel game.
If you do ever make a game like Night In The Woods, make an ending that feels less rushed and more complete.
@@omfgpainkillers I feel like not everyone can get the end of NITW, but the peoples who can never forgot it.
It looks like gatekeeping but I swear it's not
@@-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.- I've since thought alot about the ending and I think I have changed my views on it a little. I get it more than I used to, but I still think that the whole cult thing should have appeared more often and earlier. And also Germ shouldnt have so casually doomed ~20 people.
@@omfgpainkillers Yeah... I agree with you, I played the first 2 hours of the game on weeds, and the ending made me ask myself if I was smoking again (I was not) but thus fucked me up completely. I get threw DPDR syndrom for a while after playing this, and that was pretty strange, I mean... This is the thing Mae got (imo) and it is very relatable now.
The dad cult could just be an hallucination or something in Mae's head, I don't think it is but the fact that the end of the game doesnt show you what you exactly want could be explained with Mae illness. (I don't like to "justify" story with the sentence "Everything is in his head !!" but in this game, there is definitely something going in Maes head")
And for Germ... He's nickname is Jeremy Warfare sooooo...
Honestly, I view these build ups as the proper way of listening to the astral songs, they just bring out the best in them and make them sound even more beautiful. Thank you so much for dedicating your time to do this.
I only made it because I wanted to listen to it this way, but it's been an absolute pleasure seeing how useful they've been to others. So thank you.
I cannot contain my excitement for the fact that this exists... It sounds AMAZING.
Thanks very much.
Oh my goodness... 12:47... That transition sounds so smooth, soft, delicate, gentle, amazing.
this is honestly the best dream track out of all of them
the other ones are good but i love this one
and i love this game
This was the best part of the dream sequences. The music just sounded better and better with every instrument found and it just built up the tension and mystery of the dream sequences. Definitely a unique aspect of this one that shined greatly!
this soundtrack will never stop making my heart break and remind me of what has passed
This track always brings tears to my eyes. I played through NITW for the first time just before my best friend passed away in early 2019. She was an artist and would have loved this game. For some reason, this track always brings back memories of her. RIP Lissa. Miss you every day

Roonythefox19 Thats a spicy meme

Nope, sounds like bad polka at x2 speed.
Too bad you miss that 1 second
In this song i feel 3 things.
Pride hope and sadness
Why does the violin part make me miss my past? Does anyone else feel this? I start missing people that I don't see anymore and reminiscing about old times spent with them. I can see old places in my mind and smell old smells. It's like the ghosts of those people are sitting beside me reminiscing with me. It makes me happy but also sad and fills me with a sense of longing that I can't fix.

Easily my favorite Astral song in the game and in my humble opinion, the most beautiful.
This has honest to god be my favorite track in the game, even worthy of being in my top 10 favorite VG tracks EVER. I completed the game less than a week ago and I had to re-listen to this song after finishing the game. I'm glad this build-up version exists because it's a much better listening experience as it is in game, and this build up very much replicates that to an extent. Not many tracks from video games are able to bring me to literal tears, I'm very glad this was able to be part of that small fraction of tracks that do.
Every single one of the instrument groups are good on their own, but when all played in unison, they really create this feeling like no other. The Violin almost gives this sense of sadness and grief, but at the same time a feeling of acceptance and moving on. The Accordion has this feeling of warmth and lightheartedness, as well as something astronomical in size. The Saxophone represents a feeling of overcoming great odds. And the Tuba, it represents strength and determination. And the percussion, it really ties it all in together for this absolutely magical feeling.
Now, all of what I just said might be some bullshit, I can't really fully convey how I feel about each individual one with words, but all in all, the music simple invokes great and powerful emotions in me. It makes me feel sad and happy at the same time, like things are changing, the past is gone and things will never be the same again, but that's ok.
such a shame Alec isn't with us anymore
This is truly a listening experience, would recommend to anybody who likes game soundtracks

The violin and sax are my favorite parts
I'm still listening to it
God this song every time I listen to it part of my heart and soul is restored this is literally so good I'm gonna cry
IN my head, your mix of the music here, might just have changed my whole perception on the game's music, and somehow I now think that the dream ghosts have a deeper meaning than before
2:17 best part of song
I just love how the violins harmonise
Ghosts and ghouls gather to play a symphony. Beautiful.
Part of me feels like it should start at 1:55
(In any case I love to see the other dream tracks done like this ^.^)
Part of me agrees with you. I think the violin is the obvious heart of it, which is why I tried to put off its debut as long as possible without it getting actually frustrating. I may well have waited to long.
It's still very good. ^^
I actually prefer starting with tuba???
dude this is an amazing rendition of this song

The violin is haunting af
This song, Starting at 7:40, is the exact moment in my playthrough where I fell in love with the music of this game.
I have tears in my eyes
Quite an interesting effect. I like it!
I put this on loop when I'm studying, and I love how the tuba at the beginning and end match up so well that you can't tell it's looping.
This wakes up hidden feelings xd
I’ve noticed that the additional band members that we don’t see include two percussionists, a tuned percussionist and a timpani player.
Rest in piece Alec.
The accordian gives me so much positivity and I don't know why
This saves me from depression.
Xana0982 How you can just feel the good intention behind this music
The game is focused on depression, and how friends can help you with fixing it
-this is my opinion, by the way-
@@jahandahan7490 I think it's a bit more than depression, like Dpersonalization and derealization syndroms... And Nihilism (I'm new to this concept and I don't want to say dumb shit about this)
But yeah, the game show how friends can fix problems :)
the violin makes the song but it would be NOTHING without that accordion
man this song absolutely kills me
Pure Beauty, love the game and the track.
This is gorgeous
Hearing it till today, i love this remix
The thing I noticed about the song, when I first heard it, is just how much it changes! I'm glad I'm not the only one to notice. You have your foundation, that is your Tuba. They give the basics, but without it then it just seems wrong. You can have the melody which the Violin plays, it's the star of the show. But then you need the accompaniment which is the accordion and sax. Such a beautiful piece. And yes the violin does add more towards the song, I think every instrument plays an amazing part. With the violin alone you have just the melody, which albeit is amazing, can be repetitive without much else.
[patiently waiting on astral fish / astral train build-up-down]
The one song from this game that I can’t get out of my head. To me it just encapsulates the whole experience of the game into one single song.
even after all this time, this song still rocks my soul
oh my good god the video played itself automatically and I thought I was getting weird rumbling noises from my stomach when they were just these guys playing these instruments!
The beginning was moments ago, and the end is moments away
in the mean time, i'm gonna listen to this catchy tune
This game felt so good I felt so touched by it this is one of the best games I'll ever have the privilege to experience
I feel bad today. And this video has it's heal effect on me. Thank you all.
Come back to listen to this beauty, the game was ok for me at first but when this level show up it elevate the whole game for me. What a beautiful song, peaceful lovely with a tint of sorrow. God I love the violin part so much. I will always cherish this in my memory next to all the great work of art I'm lucky enough to have found.
Favourite combo, just to throw it out there, would definitely be all three minus the violins, without the band(s). So, that's... 0:38. IDK... It's really... magisterial, official, grand, and still a bit sad.
This is amazing, it's soothing, but also in a dark sense, full of life!
This song should be in my funeral.
don't we all want it buster!
I love the part at 1:36.
of course, of cooourse. its because of the violin
one of the only videos that matter. i watch it very much
In my head, the accordion player is Gena from Cheburashka.
why... why have you said that
I mean that as a good thing! Look up "Galuboj Vagon" or "Gena's Song", I think they are wonderful. Gena seems like a great character for a kids-show. I've never seen the rest of it.
Love it. Never heard of this show before. I absolutely love these kinds of connections though, so thanks very much. :)
i remember them cause i'm russian, but i would have never thought of that really.
My pleasure! : D
Thanks a lot
listening to this while it's raining is the only correct way to listen
and that's called jazz.
Thank you so much for taking the time to put this remix together; it's gorgeous! Great for background music when I'm trying to focus on something. I've listened to it many, many times over the years.
7:02 gives off a certain vibe I can't explain
It's like the forced stealth portion of the last level of a game where things are getting intense af
The violin is the best part, now I wish I hadn't learnt piano but one of these instruments.
Each of these songs is working through the five stages of grief. The current idea of how we work through grief is good, but they got the order of events wrong.
Fear is the last.
Fear is the final boss. The final step of walking out of grief is walking straight into fear. And for me, that's the train. Astral train is the fear.
After which it's Cycles II all the way down. I promise.
DAMN THATS HELLA GOOD

I wonder what is the back story for these band members
Emily Larson One of the musicians you meet in the game tells you a story about an old band that started getting into occult stuff then disappeared mysteriously. It’s heavily implied they’re the band in Mae’s dreams, so they became weird dream ghosts or something I guess.
