Blow torch and 3 foot breaker bar to get the bolts to let go. 3 lb sledge to get it off. 5 ton press to get the drive shaft out. Angle grinder with a wire cup brush to clean chunky rust off. Right angle mini disk sander with a drum attachment for cleaning inside. Apply your favorite heavy-duty grease and reassemble. Now do the other side because you never replace just one. 🤣🤣🤣

Excellent! Good question! Install depends on your mental and physical abilities, comfort level, time, tools, temp, location, etc. So lots of stuff to think about. I feel like most people could do it with enough preparation's. Maybe try looking up your specific vehicle on youtube. Find the front or rear repair you want to do and see what you think is involved, and decide if you want to attempt it. If you have anyone you know that is more capable maybe you could team up and tackle the repair together over your days off 😀
True! I got lazy and omitted it. I did clean out the previous rust jacking inside the knuckle which would likely do the same as anti-sieze on the next bearing. Doesn't always work that way. But it will help for sure 😃🔧

I’ve had this truck for 2 years and now have 75,000 miles and I have replaced 3 complete sets of front wheel bearings on this truck. All front end suspension parts look new. Truck handles fine but I don’t know why the bearings wear out so quickly.
@Easy Fix We use it everytime now, it just takes a little bit longer then then the bolt on with some practice. Look up some videos it's super sick. We got our kits from OTC.

I smeared a really thin coating of antiseize on the hub assembly mounting point. Not enought to get spread around. But it's been 5 years and it's still working fine. I'm hoping it makes it comes out a bit easier next time.

Hi, you have Press-in style front bearings and Bolt-in style rears. Cost will vary. Front will be a more cost because of press in style but generally last longer. Google says 4 hours labor in general on a press in bearing. 2 hours labor on a bolt in bearing. You could call around and try to get labor rates or quotes for the job in your area. Labor rates are different everywhere 😃

When it has bolts yeah, you can change it in 5 minutes. If it's embed with the hub, can take quite some time to take them off with the hard force if necessary
Best way I found (and lucky for me because the Colorado has a perfect bracket mount set up) is to stick a couple quality bolts in, throw nut and washer on the other side, and screw in to apply outward pressure against the hub. Give some love taps on the sides of the hub, more pressure, tap, etc until it works itself loose. Minimal effort, minimal chances of damage.
Just did this myself 2004 Tahoe 4wd. Thought it was brake noise…. Pulled wheel off and seen one brake pad super thin…. Thought it was the pads making noise… put it all back together went to get up and grabbed the tire…. And found out the hub bearing was toast :( few days later I swapped the hub. Took a few more mini sledge swings than you tho lol

No wonder the last one you need a hammer to remove. There's this awesome stuff called anti-seize or also grease would work😅but who doesn't like removing stuck parts with a hammer😅
You could add that to the hub mount bolts if you want to. Won't hurt a thing. Thread locker will slow down a bolt from backing out. The torque of the fastener is what actually prevents it from moving. Thread locker is a great backup plan. I have never seen a properly tightened hub bolt back out. So for that reason, I usually do not use it. But it can be a great idea if you want to do that😃🔧
As far as I'm concerned it's not junk till you hear a clunk, get a grease needle and that bearing it good for a while yet. Also if you do one might as well do the other because if one went the other won't be too far behind.
Any indication of noise or looseness indicates the damage is done and the bearing is bad. The grease is a great idea ahead of time but would be too late for this bearing. I agree doing both is a great idea if possible. But one can be done at a time also. Personal preference 😃🔧

You should look at the brakes and wheels to try to pinpoint what is making that noise. Looking at the steering and suspension at the same time is a great idea too 😃
Yes i used it here because i have experience and felt comfortable doing so. Impacts can be substituted in some areas of repairs. "Tight is tight", is a good methodology in some places. Before understanding proper bolt torque on different size and types of fasteners, hand tighten and torquing with a torque wrench is always best. There are even torque wrenches for small things, all the way down to #2 phillips and flat head fasteners! 😀
You are correct. Normally I do use some kind of lubrication or anti sieze. The fit was loose enough though i doubted there would be an issue in the future😀🔧

These hub bearing units are sealed and unserviceable. I wish I could add grease and service them. They are sealed for life until they fail.

I am glad you got it fixed. Junkyard bearings are not the normal process on wheel bearings. Many won't sell them. But it is a method that can work 😃🔧

I replaced a bearing hub on an impreza with 300k. Broke a 1/2 drive ratcheting breaker bar. 3/4 drive breaker bar made easy work of it though.

Yes i used it here because i have experience and felt comfortable doing so. Impacts can be substituted in some areas of repairs. "Tight is tight", is a good methodology in some places. Before understanding proper bolt torque on different size and types of fasteners, hand tighten and torquing with a torque wrench is always best. There are even torque wrenches for small things, all the way down to #2 phillips and flat head fasteners! 😀

You are correct. Normally I do use some kind of lubrication or anti sieze. The fit was loose enough though i doubted there would be an issue in the future😀🔧

I am not sure, I thought it looked much newer. Maybe the video is over exposed?
TBH, the old one and new one sounded the same, but the new one had more friction when turning it.
It is hard to tell but there is a distinct subtle difference. The bad one has a "metallic" noise to the spinning 😃🔧
