    Thank you so much for this. I just drafted a bustier pattern using metric and I was stunned to see that despite using my exact measurements to the mm that the bust was still way off. I suppose the system still makes assumptions about proportions. I think this method will work well with the bustier pieces.
    Thanks again 😊

      It doesn't affect the back pattern, as long as you don't change the length of the side seam. Hope that helps? Aneka

      Just found this tutorial. Thank you so much. I had a right sided mastectomy without reconstruction and have been trying to work out how to adjust patterns to accommodate for this. I
      I need to do a SBA for the left side and now work out how to adjust a princess seam for my right side. Not sure how this will go so wish me luck. Oh and if anyone has any ideas or links to resources I would love to hear them!

    The problem I see is that you shortened the front of the dress by 1/2 inch as well. Would you not leave it attached at the center front line and just asjust the side for the princess seam?

    • @MadetoSew
      @MadetoSew  3 года назад +1

      Hi Cindy, the front length is being shorten because this is what happens if a SBA is required. The smaller bust usually need less length to travel over it. You will have to adjust the centre front if you adjust the side front, because otherwise the pattern pieces won't fit together. You will have made the side front stitching line shorter (by doing the adjustment), so we need to shorten the front to make them fit together. Does that make sense? 😊 Aneka

    Hello! Does this affect the waist size at all? I saw another SBA tutorial where the waist in the bodice ended up smaller than the skirt waist so they didn't match up. Thank you!

    I did this on a dress for my daughter to take out the bust, it fits great in the bust now, however there is now a gap on the inside portion of the strap that goes over the shoulder.

    • @MadetoSew
      @MadetoSew  2 года назад

      Hi Elizabeth, great news. It may be that you need to tweak the shape of the strap. If you have a fuller bust you can be more hollow in the upper chest/bust area, between the shoulder and full bust. So this could be the cause.
      Depending on what it looks like you could take a dart or dead dart (this is when the dart is removed across the pattern), from the shoulder piece.
      Or this video might help: ruclips.net/video/H9YVk2hkvC0/видео.html

    Do you think this would work to sort of flatten out the bust of a pattern so a young girl could wear it? I have a small pattern that is close to the right size, but it's a women's pattern and I need it to fit a young girl with no bust. This is the only part of the pattern adjustment that's got me a little confused. I understand I'll have to grade the pattern down one size to fit her, but the bust area will still be too big. Do you have any advice?

    • @MadetoSew
      @MadetoSew  3 года назад

      Yes it would help, because in a children's pattern there wouldn't be darts or shaping. Let me know how you get on.
