I can't imagine anyone taking one whole pound of psyllium husk in one sitting. It's difficult enough trying to mix 1 teaspoon in a cup of water, not to mention it's super filling.
I've been taking this for 20 years and I do so to keep me regular. I have had zero problems with this but it does give you gas most times. I like the berry flavor and as a bonus, it makes you less hungry. I take it about an hour before going to bed and about 8 hours later I need to go. 65-year-old male.
Tip for fiber supplements! When you mix the supplement with water you should be able to see your hand on the other side of the glass. If the mixture is opaque you didn’t add enough water!

I'm so sorry for your loss. I know it hardly gets easier to live with the loss as time goes on, but I hope that you are doing as well as can be. She may have passed on but her love for you is eternal.
Got an ad before this video claiming that people have 5-20lbs of “toxic poop” in their body, presumably to sell me some sort of “colon cleanse”. Pretty easy to see how people can end up making bad choices with fiber supplements when they’re so bombarded with bad advice and snake oil.
Yeah horrible misinformation ads like that should be illegal (if they aren't already technically). I always report that ad on RUclips as "inappropriate" every time I get it. It's a shame RUclips doesn't have an option for dangerous/hateful misinformation in the "stop seeing this ad" menu. But for now I just report all those "health" ads that willingly peddle nonesense that they themselves know to be at *best* problematic outdated ideas which are often ineffective, harmful, or promote eating disorders.
Whenever that ad comes up (bizarre that it's been multiple times at this point) I have to ask, what is toxic poop? I mean as compared to regular poop? Non-toxic poop? Can I start legally including this shit in human safe products? Like what the heck, I would say all poop is fairly toxic, that's why it's poop and not well.. anything else? Technically it may just be waste rather than toxic but still. Strange problem to have with a stupid "health" ad but for some reason that's what sticks with me. It just keeps making me think of Elmer's glue (non-toxic product) for some reason, and imagining non toxic poop in the next second. Arguhh Gonna have to join you on the reporting.
I've been taking psyllium husk in a smoothie every morning for 10 years with absolutely no problems. I had my gallbladder removed and My God I was never the same. My cholesterol even went up after the removal. I didn't want to take cholestrol meds so doctor said to try psyllium. I was so amazed at how much better I felt. I will never go without it. It dropped my cholestrol by 50 points and helps my husband with his blood sugar numbers. I no longer had bathroom problems because of my missing gallbladder. We only take it once a day, about 1 and a half teaspoons. No one is going to scare me out of it. It has changed my life. My doctor said you'd have to take a whole lot of it and not drink much for a blockage to occur.
I am not surprised your cholestoral raised after the surgery one of the main activities of the gall is to break down cholestoral, i also take psyllium husk and it does wonders for me too i dont think he is saying that its bad tho just to be careful to not over do it with to little water, glad you got better!

I've suffered from IBS since I was a teenager. It wasn't until my early 30's that a doctor turned me on to Psyllium and basically my IBS went away. I've found for myself I need to take twice the recommended dosage to have good results. I drink 16-24 oz of water with it. Been taking this dosage nightly for years without any problems. I still often go 3-4 days between bowel movements, but no more burning pain, cramps, and large amounts of mucus with my BMs.
thank you for letting me know this cause I'm going through the same I've been taking the recommended dose once in awhile it's been a week but I'm taking it easy
Me too. My IBS was so bad that I couldn't even drink a glass of water without bloating. It made eating miserable because I knew there would be hours of pain afterwards. I don't know where I heard of psyllium husk, but it changed my life. I take quite a bit, but I also drink a ton of water. Never had a problem with constipation. Just good results. And it is cheap.
this is exactly the pains I was going through and I still haven't been diagnosed with ibs but I've always had these problems I'm gonnantry this and see if it helps thanks
These times, I first watch the Heme reviews before watching the case on the main channel. I just love the way the secondary channel goes much more in-dept.
Pssh, I won't let the warning label industrial complex tell me what to eat. Silica gel and snowglobe goo for breakfast with a nice thick helping of metamucil jelly to sweeten it all up.
I use psyllium fiber in my own bread as well as smoothies. When I first looked it up online almost every recipe warned readers NOT to overuse psyllium fiber and to use exact measurements because it's so potent. I didn't believe it until I saw it for myself when I accidentally added a little bit too much to my smoothie once and it turned into a solid block with the consistency of concrete.
How much psyllium would you use in your bread recipe? I ask because I followed a low carb flour-less dough recipe today for a pizza base, which had quite a lot of psyllium in it, and no water at all, so this video has me a bit worried, unless baking it in bread creates a whole other dynamic
@@girlanonymous It's probably fine. Probably not overkill. The vast majority of the population don't eat the recommended daily intake of fiber. You can't use that much in food without adding a lot of liquid to compensate. That being said, don't increase fiber content all at once because it will likely cause GI discomfort since your body isn't used to it
@@wolfferoni in my case with the low carb pizza dough it worked out just fine. the "dough" is made from 75% cheese, so a adding a whole bunch of fiber was probably a good call for digestion. The psyllium also holds it together nicely and gives it a more elastic quality, but after making the recipe a few times, I found that you don't need anywhere near the amount that the recipe asked for, I think they said 1/2 a cup, but a tablespoon is enough.
I literally started watching this video in the middle of slurping down some poorly hydrated psyllium husk and wondering why my constipation has gotten worse since I started. You’re a bowel saver!
As a person that gets constipated often, this video was one of the scariest things I've ever seen in my life. It also just gave my fear more information to feed itself with.
Whatever you do, be careful with dulcolax as well as your body will adapt to it really fast. With my IBS, I found some really great help and meds from my GI doc. (Coffee actually REALLY helps my constipation, and caffeinated teas help a little as well)
Just drink a full glass of water when taking pure psyllium capsules, not loose psyllium. I only take two capsules ( 4 is recommended). And it has helped enormously for constipation.
I've taken Psyllium husk fiber for many years. I take double the recommended amount but only once per day. I have found that it is important to take it with a good sized meal where you drank lots of liquids with that meal. This helps to dilute it in your stomach and prevents it from causing backups. If used in this way, it has been amazing at helping my constipation.
I added psyllium to my diet a week ago. 2 tablespoons to about 14 ounces of water a day. I have not experienced a lot of issues except some gas but it keeps me regular daily and I actually feel great again. My digestive issues have also improved compared to where I felt like the last 2 years. No more nausea or bloating or cramps. I will definitely keep it up. Its working for me.
That actually answered questions I have had about psyllium husk without actually using it. Showing what it turns into without enough water, and then explaining what happens when you try to add water later, was a great explanation in itself even before talking about it.
@@lenababyyy1482 have you ever considered to get a check up for celiac disease? I used to go 3 times a day. After I stopped eating gluten when I was diagnosed it became one time a day and sometimes not even every day🙏 I always thought it was because I had fast metabolism. But it turned out not to be. Gaining weight was necessary but really difficult. That's also improved a lot.
Interesting . . . Back in the late 80's, I was diagnosed with diverticular disease, and was prescribed atropine to help with cramps I was getting. Not sure where I read it (before the internet), but I read that increasing your fibre intake, would help with the diverticular symptoms. To cut a long story short, I managed to find some unprocessed psyllium husks at a health food shop and decided to give it a try. Since then, and now some 30 years later, I have been taking approximately 30g of psyllium husks on a regular daily basis. Currently, I take it with about 300ml of full cream milk (+ 15g of whey protein), but in the past I've had it with V8 or with fruit juice. Since I started, the only times I had any diverticular problems, have been when I've run out and can't immediately get more. I guess that I've been mixing it with enough fluids, and drinking enough fluids during the day, as constipation has never been a problem, in fact, I am incredibly regular, and have 2 and sometimes 3 bowel movements a day . . .
I was also recently diagnosed with diverticular disease,... very painful when it flares up...... I had a bad flare up last month and still havent recovered despite 3 different course of antibiotics.... Not sure what to do about this.
I try to drink it as soon as I mix it in the water, and I drink it as fast as I can, I also chug another glass of water without psyllium right after. I end up burping. It’s not the most comfortable drinking experience, but I want to make sure that I send enough water down to keep the psyllium from causing any trouble. I also mix in no more than one tea spoon. It’s helped me a lot with my IBS symptoms.
My dad has used this stuff for years, and when I'm constipated I have, too. I think it does do a good job of making my stools more firm, "1-wipe-wonders". It's never been a bad thing for me.
Usually, it’s 1tsp (5g) psyllium husk per 8oz of liquid. So for 78oz (2L) of water, the normal dose would be just over 9tsp/3Tlb/45g of psyllium husk fiber. That example added 1lb or 453g! That’s 10x the recommended dosage for that volume of water. A supplement that seems so innocuous becomes very harmful to the body. Thank you for pointing that out to people.
Wow. Never would have thought of this being such an issue. My son has to take Miralax daily to keep things moving, but we tried lots of things prior to getting everything under control, including Metamucil. We were never given this much information on how important it is to mix with the proper amount of water, especially the "at first " part. Thankfully we never had any issues with it, but I can totally see myself not waiting long enough after mixing, to allow it to absorb all the water, and therefore possibly creating an issue. Very glad to have this information now. Thank you!
you dont want to wait. you want to drink it right away. 1 tablespoon stirred into a FULL glass of water, and then you can quickly drink a water chaser right afterwards just in case. the more water it has the more it will have to absorb so it can move more easily through. you just want it to be fully and well diluted thats all.
I have been using psyllium supplement for a couple of years. I use half the dose in a glass of water every afternoon. It has made a huge difference in my digestive health. Before I was experiencing constipation, bloating and hemorrhoid issues. It is a life changer.
This info should come as a video warning label on every bottle. Thanks @Heme. I never use this but vet recommended it for my pups when they have diarrhea. Thank God I put only a fraction in food with broth. It worked great that way

Maybe try it when the dog isn't home beer duress. Use probiotics as well. I use those in whole, organic milk
This is spot on. I used to take metamucil and citrocel as I've always had issues with constipation. Over time my constipation got worse and at times I couldn't even go and had inpactions. I quit using. I now drink a large glass of prune juice and take stool softeners and works very well.
I get occasional small intestine blockages due to adhesions or constrictions relating to rectal cancer surgeries. I can vouch as to the pain of a blockage. One of the most miserable things I have ever experience was a nasal gastric tube for almost a week due to the last blockage and this is from a person who has been in serious car wrecks. You do not want a blockage, ever.

I was diagnosed with IBS as a child. Doctors made me drink miralax daily and it never seemed to do much. I tried fiber and felt more bloated too. But after seeing your video, I want to try fiber again. I think I was also putting too much psyllium in my water as well--although definitely not as much as CJ. Thanks for providing these videos. Start making your own Kombucha, and making your own Kefir. When I did this my bloody IBS just went away, and I mean in one week it was gone! Spread the good word! MAke your Kefir with raw milk.
Fiber is great but using slightly less than it says in slightly more water than it says is the only way I can do it, and probably the best way for most people unless they're doing it for medical purposes as directed by a doctor so that they don't overdo it.
Right! Directions call for 1 tablespoon. I use 2/3 of a table spoon and mix it in 50% more water than needed. Sure it dilutes the flavor but who cares. Just down it and be done with it. Better safe than sorry.
@@RealityHurts923 yes exactly also if you're taking any form of laxative your body needs more water. Going a bit harder on the water (as long as you're not going overboard [heh nautical pun]) is only going to be helpful.

Right dosage everyone. Read the label, follow the instructions. Love the bit about adding more water afterwards and the problem with that. Super overlooked and more common than we think.
Psyllium husk can be a great addition to a high-fiber diet! 🌿 I’ve found it helpful for digestion and keeping me fuller longer. Just like you said, plenty of water is key!
Intriguing. This begs the question on how many other of my favorite plant-based foods may be causing the same issue. I will definitely start picking up my water intake. Thanks doc.
I take low doses of psyllium because it helps with ibs so much. I have excess acid/bile production on top of no galbladder and this stuff is a miracle.
Also see about Cholestyramine. I, too, have IBS caused by excess bile. The fiber wafers make things more regular and the cholestyramine keep me from getting sick
I take the capsules. Although the bottles recommend five a day, I only take two. With an acidophilus supplement (or other probiotic), it really helps me with my occasional digestive issues. I think more than anything, it helps me as a prebiotic for the probiotic to work with. It seems to me that a small amount with a probiotic may help more than a bunch of psyllium powder.
@@shawnsg I only take 2 capsules a day and it's literally the difference between shitting normally and not shitting at all. Sometimes you just don't need much. When I read the comments replying to a personal experience that the commenters do not agree with I often become very annoyed at the ignorance displayed. The human condition is extremely complex. Some people - including doctors - seem to think that there is a graph for every condition. Name the problem or disorder - open the graph - establish where the patient is on the graph - move across to the other axis and read the solution = x gms of this 3 times a day. Problem solved. Next. Doesn't happen that way - and it is patently absurd to even suggest it might. Personal life experience..... My brother had a heart bypass - subsequently prescribed statins - no issues. A decade later I had a heart double bypass - prescribed statins - at a low 20 mg dosage no issues - dosage increased to 80 mg caused major problems. The doctor insisted I must continue taking statins. I disagreed and stated that I could care less if it was a wonder drug for the general population - it it caused me problems it was off the list. It is highly significant that I compared my brother's situation because it takes genetics out of the argument and focuses entirely on the individual response. 15 years later I am in peak health and my cardiologist claims I am a "special case" - but that I would still be better off with statins despite the fact that the major problems caused disappeared after a few months. During an interim period I was advised that I was at risk - that a "different" statin would be the solution (whaaaat?). I reluctantly agreed - after all you go to a professional to get a professional opinion that should be far superior to your own. Initially no issues - inside 2 months the MAJOR problems re-occurred - I abstained and it took nearly 8 months off the statin to return to normal. My only suggestion is... do not robotically accept a simple solution offered to what may be a very complex problem. If the doctor picks up the scrip pad within seconds of your description an alarm should trigger. The doctor may be right - but he is not God. The only medical condition graph relevant is the one with your name on it.

I used to prescribe it for all my senior hospital patients. One day a Surgeon grabbed me and angrily told me he was spending too much time removing psyllium blocks from patients. I told him i heard him, but suggested we needed to take it to Nursing Education to instruct Nurses to stop giving a dose with just a 30ml gulp of water. We f8nally adopted a mash of prune juice apple sauce and bran. Slower working but less surgery.

It really seems like there should be a better warning label on this stuff. I just checked my container of a certain popular brand of fiber drink mix, and the only warning on it is that mixing with less than 8 oz of water could cause choking. Maybe a nice diagram of an impacted bowel would discourage people from eating 2 liters of fiber jello.
I take one teaspoon of husk with one whole pint of water every morning, making sure to first stir thoroughly and then drink immediately to prevent any congealment. Has worked well for me so far.
Why is everyone THAT adamant about the body not being able to digest fiber? Everywhere it says we can't digest any of it, when that's simply not true. Nobody can digest it exactly the same as any other person, but it's not completely indigestible. I too have used psyllium husk powder and put enough in the water to the point where I had to chew it. What happened though was a lot of number 1 and no changes in number 2. I pee a lot when I have too many carbs, but that day I hadn't had any food, yet after the husks it felt like I had eaten an entire cake in terms of bathroom visits. There was no added sugar and I didn't mix it with any so I was really confused, until I found out fiber is broken down into carbs. It had 0 effect on my bowel movements, though I did learn to manage them in other ways. There's no way I didn't digest the fiber, what else could have happened?
If you drink enough water and take psyllium you should be fine. If you take too much just skip a couple days and drink lots of water and you will continue eliminating during the week🙏🏼💗
As an IBS Suffer psyllium husk is one of the few that you can use and it is great for diarrhoea IBS but because the threshold to shifting to constipation is so difficult to to maintain it is absolutely important that you go low and slow with a lot of water to begin with and just find your rhythm. Personally I eat it in a almond flour psyllium husk bread there’s only about 2 tablespoons of natural psyllium husk (not powder that is much much stronger than husk)
I love psyllium husk. I had the opposite problem. Watery stool after every meal pretty much. It somehow calmed down my tummy. Probiotics + psyllium husk is the winning combo
Nice job! 100% reliable info, and no BS. It's rare to find a health-related vid that isn't part quackery or misinformation, esp. in a vid involving the GIT.
The key is drink lots of water when taking psyllium fiber supplement. Taking this fiber supplement will prevent colon cancer. I just underwent colonoscopy and my colon is nice and clean. The colon specialist recommended I continue taking psyllium fiber supplement before meal with lots of water and eat a lot of fruits and vegetables to prevent colon cancer.
I remember when I was on methadone(and this very constipated) I started taking 3 or 4 tablets of this(or possible a different type of fiber, I can't remember.) However, I also would not drink enough water. Each morning on the way to work I would get horrible stomach pains(I assume from gas and/or trying to push along a slight blockage in my intestines) until I would finally be able to go to the bathroom at work. This went on for like 4 or 5 days before I realized what was causing it(at the time I was taking several prescription and OTC medications, including more than one laxative, stool softener, fiber supplement, etc., was changing what I was taking, or how much of it and when, so I didnt recognize and isolate the problem right away. Not to mention that I was used to having stomach pains due to being on methadone(and other prescription medications such as trazadone that can cause constipation.) Now I take 2 in the morning everyday with a lot of water, and sometimes two at night, and sometimes use colace(a stool softener.)
I've used psyllium husk powder for 2+ years now due to constipation caused by candida overgrowth. I've never had it any thicker than drinkable because of the concern shared in this video. 1Tbsp of powder a day does the trick between now and when I get this candida under control.
Excellent video. I have learned to be careful when taking Metamucil, which can be a godsend, but sometimes, but sometimes, I notice that some days, when I eat just a little bit, I feel so uncomfortably full, I think it might be the Metamucil, even though I always drink plenty of water with it (and plenty of water in general). I dehydrate quickly and I think that the Metamucil may require much more water than the 8 oz that's listed. Again, I'm guessing, but my body does what it does.
It caused a blockage in my colon and caused breathing issues for me. I had to have a colonoscopy done and they had to physically remove the blockage. That was a month ago and my digestive track is messed up, I’m constantly bloated and the bloating pushes on my hiatal hernia causing inflammation in my lungs. Im trying everything to fix this issue but it feels like this might take me out eventually. I’ve been taking probiotics, drinking only water and doing hiatal hernia exercises. Like he said, be very careful with this stuff.
@@stephenbloom2545 oh then better avoid it. If you have constipation problems just take a table spoon of olive oil but it must be organic that will do.
I've been using this stuff for years, often the capsule form. I've generally followed the directions with it, but I'm going to be a lot more careful with the water level from here on!
I could binge watch your videos from either channel. And do. You are one interesting young man! This hits home with me because I have a huge problem with constipation (TMI?) but don't want to think I'm helping when what I'm doing is making it worse.
I just took Metamucil and was wondering why I haven't had a bowel movement in the past 2 3 days of taking it. I hopped on RUclips and this was the first thing I see. Thank you God for showing me this!
Almost seems like a miracle for me. I'm in the "take too much" camp. Every day I DUMP at least like 5 tablespoons or more of psyllium husk powder into like maybe 6 oz of liquid. And then eat it like porridge. It bulks up so fast. I have to like use my hands and dig it out and sometimes I choke and I have to drink water to break it down in my esophagus. It's so disgusting but I've gotten used to it and my bowel movements are amazing now. They come out like the shape of my large intestine. When I wipe there's almost never anything on the toilet paper. I feel great most of the time. I think the big difference for me is the liquid I mix it with is kefir, which is like a drinkable yogurt but with even more fermented bacteria and probiotics which support the gut. And I'm basically introducing that into prebiotics of the psyllium, and inundating it with its food source for the bacteria to thrive. I have Crohn's disease, and I used to take remicade, but I've been off for 2 years and am completely untreated but I'm not even showing any kind of a sign of relapse. I also take calcium and vitamin d. I do tend to get dehydrated pretty easily but that's easy to fix I think. I'm hoping like I can continue on this path. Haven't had any bowel blockages or anything. Everything moves so well.
I do the same with kefir, although approximately only one tablespoon of plain psyllium per cup. My idea was if you let it soak in kefir for 10 minutes before drinking it gels up and somewhat protects the live bacteria from stomach acid so they can get to where they need to go.
@@lemerdtool Makes sense to me! Since I use so much psyllium powder and it bulks up before I can even get it down almost immediately, I'm hoping that like the bacteria in the kefir is having a field day with all its food and protected from the acid and getting to my gut where it needs to be. Maybe that's why I don't get obstructions because I've been doing it everyday for like 3 years and it seems like no amount of fiber nor fructans exist that the bacteria can't handle. I can eat like two whole BULBS of cooked garlic on things without pain or discomfort. The bacteria in my gut can take care of it easily but it's not exactly pretty. lol
I suppose there's also a risk that I'm carrying away all the good bacteria in my gut because of the thick gummy psyllium. Maybe my incredible digestion is just because of the consistent daily introduction of all the bacteria. I'm not entirely sure how well bacteria stays in your gut doing this kind of thing. I'm kind of nervous what would happen if I just stopped taking the psyllium and kefir altogether if I lose access to both ingredients. But for now it's readily available and far cheaper than Crohn's disease treatments or comprehensive American health insurance.
This is my first video on this channel, but I'm a huge fan of your other channel. Medicine has always interested me, and your case studies are fascinating! Keep them coming and thanks for such great content!

I follow a keto diet and have found a small amount (1/2 teaspoon) of whole psyllium husk in my mid-day coffee (about 10 ounces), once every 3-4 days, is helpful with staying regular. The recommended "dose" was a full tablespoon, 1-3 times a day, but I really thought that was too much. I've been doing this for a couple of months and I think it's helped me, but I would caution against too high a dose. Also, you must NOT take the psyllium husk within 2 hours of medication!
my body sucked all the water out of my intestines and bowel movements were painful and slow, bleeding a lot. Now with one teaspoon a day of Psyllium husk my life has changed for the better
MAN this is just SUCH AN EXCELLENT VIDEO!! I already commented a day ago or so, to say so, but I've just watched it AGAIN, and it's just so very full of quality information and so VERY VERY WELL DONE!! Thank you so much! Just excellent demonstrations and excellent explanations!!
thank you for these videos, seriously. I made these protein powder "puddings" (basically just protein powder with little water, so it'd become like a pudding instead of a protein shake). Delicious. But I only ate that for many days, and my bowel movements completely stopped. So I researched and bought Psyllium husk, to have more fiber and hopefully fix that. Ive been adding quite a lot of it to my "puddings". Not a lot of bowel movement yet. I guess I should stop both the psyllium husk and the protein powder and eat some vegetables... Thank you, I think you might have saved me from dying. I would had probably ate just more psyllium husk in the next days, and my pudding that I put it in doesnt have much water at all. Now it all makes sense
Psyllium husk works wonders. It should be used when you are really constipated. One time i couldnt poop for 3 days. I took 5 capsules of the husk powder. Drank a gallon of water and bam. It hit me like a truck and went to the bathroom and exploded shit everywhere. Felt really good.
I should have done more research before taking any of these supplements. I did what the bottle asked and everything, yet still, here I am, experiencing this pain you described...
I actually use psyllium husk powder, just that, and mix it with apple cider vinegar water and enjoy that in the morning, and then down a second glass of water after that.
I heard horror stories of people winding up vomiting their own fecal matter because of long term laxative abuse.... I can't imagine how horrible it must feel and smell 🤢
If you’re vomiting your own fecies, you’re probably suffer from an intestinal obstruction which is no joke. Fiber is no laxetive, it just helps to move stuff along. Just drink enough water and nothing will happen. I’ve taken it for years, it’s really helpful. :)
I have had ulcerative colitis for 2 years and I've been taking stool softeners pretty much every day for the past 2 years. long term laxative use does not cause intestinal obstructions
I wish I had watched this video a week ago, before I had those psyllium husk bread sandwiches with garbanzo's Hummus! Now I'm still in hospital recovering for an emergency surgery last Saturday! I feel so stupid, but doctors said there wasn't any more time left before things would start deteriorating... it's like a nightmare.. . Thanks for the video. I'm sending it to my close contacts. I'm warning everyone I care for!
i took for years until a recent annual physical showed severe iron deficiency which my doctor said taking this for too long might cause. I stopped taking and iron levels are back where they belong. so do be careful.
As a child I was constipated alot. It was often painful! As an adult I changed my diet and this immediately changed to normal digestion. I take no supplements, no fiber and no pills. I found a good organic healthy diet, lots of water and making sure I have natural fiber in my food, fruits, veggies etc...
Good for you, but for me I've tried everything. I drink 3L of water, exercise for 30 minutes, monitor my fiber intake and I still suffer from constipation. I blame my chronic stress though.
When I lived in FL, we used to feed about a cup of physillium husk fiber to each horse about once per month to help clear the sand they ingested with the grass. Too much sand in a horse’s gut can cause a serious problem called “sand colic”. Tack shops sell a fiber husk product for horses, but it’s extremely expensive and the rotational feeding instructions are so complicated a lot of people can’t follow them correctly. In comes husk fiber for people- easy to administer and cheap, a whole can lasts 6+ months.
Absolutely! Thank you for the clear and fun explanations. I do hope people watch and understand this. :) Also, intake of fiber, in general, requires more intake of fluids (mainly plain water) for it to work, to start with! Live healthy.
I take the capsules (one or two depending on the amount of fiber I'm getting during my meal). Thankfully I always read the instructions, but I'm glad you're making videos like this so people can learn not to just go crazy with this stuff. Good stuff man. Keep it up.
It was for demostration purposes to demonstrate how it congeals in the stomach. He's not suggesting that people take a pound of psyllium husk per serving.
1 Psyllium husk supplement taken daily with a full glass of water has helped me tremendously with IBS, and Blood sugar spikes. I suggest always start with a small amount and see how your body responds. The bottle suggests 5 daily but I never take that. Of course everyone is different. Thank you for sharing this.
I take it once a day, following the instructions: a rounded teaspoon in 8 oz of water. No problems. It helps me! I take it, as well as following a strict, high fiber diet, in order to prevent a recurrence of diverticulitis, which caused me to be hospitalized for eight days in March, with a ruptured colon and an abscess on my bladder. That experience was painful beyond belief. I want to avoid surgery.
I can't imagine anyone taking one whole pound of psyllium husk in one sitting. It's difficult enough trying to mix 1 teaspoon in a cup of water, not to mention it's super filling.
Right!?!? 🤮
A pound of psyllium husk in one sitting would turn you into the equivalent of Lot's wife.
I think some idiot did that and had to have surgery.
Exactly
one pound could kill you. Recommended dose is 5 to 10 gm.
I've been taking this for 20 years and I do so to keep me regular. I have had zero problems with this but it does give you gas most times. I like the berry flavor and as a bonus, it makes you less hungry. I take it about an hour before going to bed and about 8 hours later I need to go. 65-year-old male.

Me too!
I haven’t seen that ad, with that smug guy with a face that needs hitting, for a few days. I hope that RUclips is refusing to run it.

In your bread too? A bit overkill..be careful with this stuff!

Same here. It's a awsome ingredient if used correctly.
Do you take it immediately before or after? I followed some advice to take it 30m after a meal not sure if that's ideal.
I added psyllium to my diet a week ago. 2 tablespoons to about 14 ounces of water a day. I have not experienced a lot of issues except some gas but it keeps me regular daily and I actually feel great again. I guess that I've been mixing it with enough fluids, and drinking enough fluids during the day, as constipation has never been a problem, in fact, I am incredibly regular, and have 2 and sometimes 3 bowel movements a day . . .

"Angel poo" no-wipe-wonder.
From what I've read (including on packaing that psyllium husks and powder come is), 1 tablespoon of husks is 5g, and 1 tsp of powder is 5g.

Dude, if an army vet tells you something helps with your gut, you listen close. Their digestive systems are subjected to some of the roughest stuff on the planet 😆
Especially after all those MRE’s. You know it’s worthwhile!!!
seriously people just need to read the directions and read more about products before they use them. its common sense.
Been using psyllium for years, have not had any adverse symptoms. Glad I have seen this, i'll keep using psyllium as I have been
I use it everyday as well it saved my life after having diverticulitis
Same, helps my IBS a lot.

2 capsules of fiber is essentially negligible and a waste of money. You're probably getting less than a gram of fiber from that.
@@shawnsg I only take 2 capsules a day and it's literally the difference between shitting normally and not shitting at all. Sometimes you just don't need much. I get plenty of fiber in my diet, and I'm well hydrated, but I have gastroparesis and it's like my body doesn't know what to do with the fiber in my food. Toss in a small amount of supplement though, and it's like it jumpstarts my digestion.

Thank you for making the videos on both your channels, and take care of yourself and be well! 👍
A little choking is fine though...
Yea I think I overdid this a few times,I thought a little was good and more would be better, they should have a bigger warning on the label
Start making your own Kombucha, and making your own Kefir. When I did this my bloody IBS just went away, and I mean in one week it was gone!
When you already know what a bezoar is, because you've had cats all your life. Long- and medium-haired cats, to be more precise.
I love psyllium husk. I had the opposite problem. Watery stool after every meal pretty much. It somehow calmed down my tummy. Probiotics + psyllium husk is the winning combo
Do you mind sharing the name of the probiotic you use?
Not to mention that I was used to having stomach pains due to being on methadone(and other prescription medications such as trazadone that can cause constipation.)
Now I take 2 in the morning everyday with a lot of water, and sometimes two at night, and sometimes use colace(a stool softener.)
I've used psyllium husk powder for 2+ years now due to constipation caused by candida overgrowth. I've never had it any thicker than drinkable because of the concern shared in this video. 1Tbsp of powder a day does the trick between now and when I get this candida under control.
Go low carb for candida, no sugaar

Im thinking about taking this in capsule form. I use the raw unflavoured stuff. Do you reccommend capsules?
If you've been doing it for years, chances are you're fine and don't need to worry about anything.

I know it does bulk it up nice don't it I was going to take a picture one time
I do the same with kefir, although approximately only one tablespoon of plain psyllium per cup.
I thought I was going crazy. I recently started taking fiber and I've been looking for somebody to mention wiping but there is nothing to wipe🤣

Also, you must NOT take the psyllium husk within 2 hours of medication!

thank you for these videos, seriously.
