Running your tank so low allows the garbage in your tank to be sucked up into your fuel filter and your carburetor.
I was looking for this comment..yes, Amanda, please check your filters & such after running out of gas! So glad you're safe and Salutations to Frank! 🐾🚐💚
Wow, I didn't know that, thanks for that info..
Hopefully the fuel filter will stop it from going into the carburetor typically the fuel filter is what gets clogged and prevents the engine from running. The gasoline also helps cool the electric pump enclosed in the gas tank
@@tomwilliam5118 might have a mechanical fuel pump.
Thumbs up everyone please, show the love ❤️
Send a few bucks of love…..
A good rule of thumb Here's to never let it get under a quarter of a tank. If your engine is fuel injected your pump get cooled by the fuel. You can actually burn your pump up if you let it run very low. Do always tell yourself at quarter tank is empty
This was pretty epic. Especially having a huge grizzly hanging around when you’re van is breaking down. Way to keep your wits about you Amanda
Took the writing right out of my hands! 😅
Epic indeed! Such a great video!!!
The irony of being in the middle of nowhere and everything is peachy, then heading back to civilisation and trouble starts 😆
Frank's last look is just so adorable. Glad you guys are safe and you had an alternative plan and supplies.
I learned that if there any particulates in your gas tank they settle on the bottom which can get sucked up into the fuel filter, carburetor or injectors and the car will just die. As soon as the particulates flow back or settle, the car will start.
So glad you made it out safe! 🥰Frank
"Be excellent to each other.". I like that. God bless you & Frank.
Amanda, I really enjoy watching your videos. I look forward to them and Frank. Lol since you ran out of gas you might consider changing your gas filter. Who knows how much debris might have been in your tank that is now sucked into the filter. That could clog it and starve the engine and leave you stranded. Good luck and stay safe!!
Yes, this definitely. As soon as you're able to change that filter the better.
Great tip!
Thanks, I appreciate the tip.
Maybe you had water or debris in your gas tank? We carry a small kit w/jump starter & air compressor (AdoreTrip) in our van. Fall colors & grizzly in Yukon - spectacular!
Yes I agree changing the gas filter would be smart thing to do also .
That is a pretty cute pic of Frank! So happy that you made it to the ferry okay! So thankful too that the grizzly bear took off into the bush! ❤
The ending w Mr.Frank is so adorable-especially his Tongue Out!
I was screaming at the video “please don’t cut off where that bear is!!!” I was way too on edge watching this video today 😂😂😂
My battery died on me right after I got off the Dempster. Really wanted to wait until I got to Whitehorse to get a new one, but decided it was best to just buy one in Dawson City. Also learned on the Dempster how important the gas can is. Got to Eagle Plains right after they closed. Didn't want to wait 15+ hours for them to open so hand to hope I had enough gas to get to the end of the road (van said I was about 100km on the safe side). Ended up being fine, but from now on I will carry extra gas in the north. I have one of those combo jumper batteries / air compressor, which I used when I got a flat and to jump the van after the battery started dying. You can never be overprepared in the north. Glad you made it out.
If your van continues to stall after fueling it up, the most likely cause would be a clogged fuel filter. Hope all goes well! I'm am Canadian.
I had an old ford pickup that did the same thing - ended up being a loose wire into the coil. Would be driving down the road and all of a sudden she was like NOPE gonna stop right NOW! LOL Perhaps a loose battery terminal connection??
Glad everything turned out okay. I had a similar problem with an eighty two chevy van years ago and it turned out to be in my situation that the wires that went to the distributor had rubbed on the engine and when I would go down hill and slow down, they would touch the engine and kill it. Anyway, enjoy your visit with your friend. And we're looking for forward to more content soon
1)When is the last time you did tune up.ie:spark plugs, air filter. If the gap gets to wide it can stall it happens to my GMC Van2) I suggest trying not to run your gas tank to below 1/8 tank can pick up dirt from tank clog filters. One in gas tank and one in the gas line also.
Not only are you adventurous,
And Beautiful but you're a pretty smart woman too. Stay safe and know that you are Loved!
You are incredibly inspiring! Definitely one of the very best RUclipsrs!
I’m 50, and throughout my life I’ve always felt like I wasn’t living the actual story written for me. Then one day, about 2yrs ago, I came across the first “Vanlife” video. From that moment on I was captivated! My brain cried out, “THIS IS IT”!!! And although I haven’t made much progress, I’m still completely sure that this is what I am going to do.
Thank you for the inspiration. Keep on keeping on. Be safe out there, and tell Frankie hello for me. 😃
Thanks Donnie, I appreciate it and good luck!
Girl, you have a Guardian!
Now that's got to be the most suspenseful episode...phew through you were prepared for all seeing the grizzly in the road staring at you like "come on" kinda shifted things to well ya can't prepare for everything you need a guardian angel.
We sure are glad it all worked out.
I’m here for the shots of Frank’s cuteness.
Wow what an intense time you had. I'm glad you always have a plan b. All the best to everyone.
A lot of vehicles have a 2 gal reserve that does not register on your gauges. You might get your fuel filter checked because it might be pretty nasty after sucking your tank dry.
Great video with exciting new content. Oh, I keep forgetting to say that I am enjoying the LMNT citrus and watermelon flavors. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and creativity. 💜👍
You were running on fumes sounds like ,whew im glad it got you to safety.. to me older vehicles really hold well..they dont make things like they used to..all good.. onward bound ..you and Frank take it easy..😊❤
The angle of the van; uphill or downhill changes the position of the fuel inside the tank. The intake hose is usually in the front of the tank.
You are made from very different stuff than me! I admire you..... i 'need' to be forever in my comfort zone, and the thought of being all alone out in the wild with a van that keeps stopping gives me the heeby jeebies!!
@twish1999 - you & me both! All my car troubles have mercifully happened ‘in town’ or near resources and it still left me shaking! Amanda is one cool customer 😊 Intrepid, courageous & calm! It’s why I watch, she inspires me to keep . . . trying
Whew! So happy you made it to the ferry and were able to get gas. I knew you were okay because you made the video but the grizzly bear on the road was a nail biter for me! Safe travels ❤️😊. Frank looked sooooo cute all bundled up!
Enjoyed this update - though there were some edge-of-the-seat-moments. Love the closing with Frank!
It's laughable & NOT so laughable. Your video is entertaining. The grizzly in the road made it so real. Thanks from one full-timer to another.
As always Frank is adorable… Amanda you handled the situation very well.I would have freaked seeing that grizzly bear! Yikes…Take care safe travels to you and Frank😊
We love you Amanda n Frank. So glad you shared that whole harrowing experience with us.......the shut downs, lack of gas n Diesel n the Grisly!! WoW,never a full moment in your life! Hugs for you n Frank
Whew, sketchy running out of gas where grizzlies are active. You had a heckuva trip. Don't forget to change your fuel filter.🤗🐻
I’m glad you made it back safely & I love the way frank looks at you he loves his mum
Your guardian angels were with you!
I am so glad I got the chance to sit in on your premier today. So many nice people loving on Frank and yourself. A supportive and engaged group surrounds you. I hope you had a fun time. Though I never asked about this issue I did wonder what it would be like to be dependent on an engine while deployed so deeply in the B-Country. Nice problem solving! Another idea for emergency gear: a small tube for siphoning gas from a willing friend.
She has a syphoning set up.
Thanks for coming, I hadn’t done a premiere in a while and it was fun.
You've had a few stressful days. Luckily the grizzly didn't feel like hanging around. Relieved when you made it to the ferry. Sounds like you have a few errands to do before hitting the road again. Happy you 2 made it safely to the next town. Take care and be safe.
The grizzly freaked me out, but I remembered you made it safely to civilization because you uploaded a video. Phew! Beautiful photography and thanks for taking us along on your journey. ❤
Be safe Amanda and Frank. Worried for you guys. ❤❤❤
Clean the battery terminals. Check your grounds. Damp weather can cause bad connections. Think about purchasing a jump box for emergencies.
Yes! We do have to rely on technology 😊
Make sure you check your battery connections. I had that happen to me about 20 years ago and it ended up being loose cable connections. Hit a bump turns off/on etc.
Glad you and Frank are safe. I had RV battery problem last week and I was 45 minutes from home. 😊 Can't imagine having problem where you were. Thank for sharing the adorable pictures of Frank.
Luck was on your side. I’d take one kilometre away from gas as extremely lucky. Glad it turned out good for you. Take care.
i would not want to leave either😃
So glad you're safe. Cool encounter with Griz. Looked like it was more scared of you then you of him. I would have been blowing my horn!! Love your adventures, be safe out there, and sending you good thoughts. Also huge hugs to Frank 💕🥰
OMG! FRANK!! You bring a smile to my face everytime LoL!! Loved the grizzly sighting also! Safe travels & Cheers! ~M
You can cook potatoes & bell pepper in water. Fresh, not dried food. 😊
I leave your videos playing one after the other. I like hearing your voice as I bop around my house doing chores.
On top of admiring how you handled the wild situation you were in, so many cool tips got posted in the comments, that I appreciate for my own vehicle!
Girl!! That bear situation....crazy!
Golly what a trip this was. You remained much calmer than I could have been. Stay safe NO BEARS. Yikes.
I’m watching from Niagara Falls, Ontario! hi Amanda and Frank!!!
I so want Amanda to head East! I hope she makes it there.
So glad to see this video!! After hearing about it and worried for you when it happened!!!! 👏👏👏💪
It was a event 😆
Truck came through for you 🎉 so glad you made it safely to the town.
Have been enjoying your videos, keep up the good work and safe travels! Not the best to routinely run your van so low on fuel not only for the risk of running out of fuel but also it puts a lot more stress on the van's fuel pump likely shortening the life span of the pump. Although if if you did get a new fuel pump there is a good chance it could fix your fuel gauge issue.
My last vehicle used to randomly shut off while driving and I’d lose the brakes also and it was terrifying driving in town when that happened. Idk if it’s better or worse that you experienced that in the wilderness with a bear and not in a town with a bunch of traffic. Both options are pretty dangerous.
Backup plan upon backup plan! Nice job and glad it worked out. Mmmm cobbler. I've been binging Apple Dutch Babies and have made three in the last week! Speaking of self control...
Frank was telling the grizzly to get off the road!
Wow, never a dull moment, eh? 😮😊 I agree with you about getting a jumpstarter power pack. They're great! I use mine all the time as my car won't start if it goes more than 48 hours without being driven. I looked up the book you're reading, and by golly, it's right up my alley, so I ordered the first one in the series (The Wild Places) on Audible since my eyes aren't very good anymore. From an older, disabled person, thank you for bringing us along to vicariously adventure with you. ❤❤❤
Ordered lmnt. I have a horrible time staying hydrated. I never really feel thirsty. Hopefully it help. Love to Frank from my sweet Poppy.
Oh wow that would have really rattled my nerves. Happy Thanksgiving this weekend, I hope you find a sweet treat to celebrate.😊
You are amazing! And your faith in yourself has pulled you through.
Great job Amanda and and Frank ❤
omg grizzly bears are huge 😮 Australia has nothing as scary as that ! 😆
Just want to mention You can make a tiny 'oven' using a tin billy on its side. Allows you to bake over a fuel stove. Can make biscuits, a muffin or a quiche etc. Just need a little cake tin or foil tray that fits in it and rotate the bucket at intervals to put the hot side on the top. (I hope that makes sense 😆) Firebox stove sells a kit but you can piece one together in the smallest size Billy to make a dessert for one 😊.
So glad you made it back , your preparations were spot on !
So sorry your van kept dying out on you. That shot of the big grizzly bear was scary but really amazing. I'm from California, but I live in Italy now. When our family would go camping in California I have seen brown bears, but never a big grizzly like that. I love your videos your adventures are so beautiful. Hugs to Frank. I have a Rottweiler her name is Mina and she's a wonderful dog and we take lots of hikes here in Tuscany. Big big hugs from Italy 👍❤️🦊🐻🦡🐶
We also had that same issue while driving our truck, with a camper.....the truck would shut off...over bumps,we ended up turning around, and the next day,I checked the ignition wire that goes into the side of the distributor cap,...the clip was broken, and the wire would come loose..causing the truck to shut off...
As always young lady we ( my daughter and I ) enjoy your videos ! Be safe we love you and Frank !
Excited I get to see a premiere!!!
Yay! I haven’t done one in so long.
5:13 mark: It's a little known fact that LMNT grows most abundantly amongst the lichen of the Yukon.
🤣🤣🤣
It was a lot more abundant than the berries were this year 😆
So something you should look into is buying yourself an extra fuel pump.... The more times you run out of gas the more likely it is your fuel pump will head south..... It's not a big job as long as your tank is empty or close to it.... Being out in the boonies with a burned-up fuel pump is no fun...... Another thing I carry around with me is a spare fuel filter.... Sometimes you can get a tank of bad gas clog your filter and there you are..... Glad you made it back safe and sound I was just about to load up in my van and come look for you LOL.... What is that about three thousand miles from Arizona.... Stay warm safe travels
I trusted you had a plan. I just bought lithium jump starter with air compressor, good peace of mind.
What a strange day, but you are tenacious!
Thank you!! So sorry I missed this notification. I appreciate you 🙏🏼
Hi Amanda. I love watching your videos and hope you and Frank are doing well. Since you are from Canada which gets cold before some of us here in the US, I hope that this adventure of running out of fuel and power is going to be a real learning lesson and process for your future to be better prepared in the future. I lived in a van for a year and a half and luckily I never dealt with those issues, but I prepared for it knowing that I was going to be in negative digit temperatures. You are one heck of a woman and I admire you for your strength and I have learned some things from watching your videos. I just want you and Frank to be safe and therefore you not be stressed out as well. Be safe and enjoy the van life. I will be getting back into vanlife in the future as well. Take care
Well done on keeping a cool head Amanda in the face of adversity...I'm not sure I would have TBH :-)
Better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it. Trucked for 47 years, one of my many mottos. Be safe out there, it’s a cruel, cruel world.
Thanks 4 sharing LMNT w/us. My fav is mango/chili.
Frank stuck his tongue out @ the camera , how cute , stay safe ☃️
This was so good. I was panicing when the grizzyly came into view and holding my breath lol. You have such awesome content!!! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Your van must have been running on fumes. When your tank gets that low, it c a n get into sediment in the tank. That may be what's happened.
Enjoy your visit with your friend.
Frank is cute!!
Frank’s lil blep at the end!!! You’re so resourceful Amanda. You take great care of truck and pup and yourself. Thanks for sharing the adventure ❤
You are amazing Amanda, this has been the most beautiful adventure. So glad you made it to the ferry. I am so proud of you 💯
Much love 💜🐾
Awesome adventure ❤
Oh my! Love you two! ❤stay safe!
Great video. What a great role model you are: no power, no diesel, no gas, no food and now there’s a grizzly bear!!….but NO PANIC either! Just a calm, level-headed problem-solving to get yourself out of it.
Take care Amanda!!!
I haven't read all the comments to see if someone suggested this already.
I know that if your fuel filter is clogged -- it shows problems when you are low in fuel, but apparently it works better when you have up to a half tank or more of gas. Anyhoo--- I'm no expert, just something I remembered from ages ago.
It's worth checking out, I think it's easy to fix. I'm not a mechanic -- but ask someone about it who may know.
You're truly a Jill of All Trades!! Most people let alone women could do what you do!! Always have a plan and you did and that helps out. Take Care and Stay Safe.
I'm so glad that I found your channel. I've been watching at least one video every day since and oh my- this one was intense! I'm glad all was well in the end. I too am happier the farther I am away from civilisation, generally, and feel the tug of a life such as yours more and more. I've been watching various videos and learning and have even begun to downsize. I'm a camper and a hiker and I don't intend to retire into an old fuddy duddy! I know my dog would be cool with life like that, but my cat maybe not so much. Who knows, though- she's a tortie! Cheers, and thanks so much for the great content.
Amazing indeed! You were fueled by good energy. And air. lol
Hello Amanda and Frank❤😊
For long trip on the backcountry, would be good for us having a woodstove in the van, an extra tank for water or other liquid we need, battery for the car. Satellite phone could also be helpful for searching help in case.
Glad all worked out for you and Frank 😊
For showers I use a Joolca, can use as a little of 1.5 gallons per. Can use creek water for a source and can do laundry also with the tub kit, a shower a day…. I could, not Boondock without it. All the best…..
Thank you 🙏🏼 I actually had Joolca try to work with me but I don’t really have space in my van 😔 maybe I’ll see what I can move around. Hope you’re having a great weekend.
Well this was pretty gripping. My heart stopped when your van stopped with a grizzly in front of you. You are one strong person and your common sense is pretty amazing. So glad you made it safely. Grizzlies are not what anyone wants to see in that situation..
Take care always Amanda and Frank...safe travels🎉
There's never a dull day in your van life. My heart was in my mouth throughout this video! I knew you'd pull through❤
WoW !! This could be a life or death situation, Have you ever considered a Satellite phone ? I purchased one a year ago after a close call in Utah on a hiking trip. Just food for thought.
Wow you really had my heart pumping. I was on edge and excited when you were able to continue. But goodness, so relieved you made it safe.
You should avoid sucking your gas tank bone dry. All you end up doing is sucking all the crap in the bottom of your tank into either your filter if you have one or getting in the injectors, or carb which ever you have. I suggest you replace your filter if you have one. Don't ask me how I know this!
I think you got some guardian angels watchin' over you.. whether you believe it or not!!
I absolutely love watching you and frank !
