Witness the Historic First Kill for the Mirage III!

- In early 1960s, Israel and Arab countries introduced Mach 2 capable fighters to their air forces. In the Israeli case, it was the iconic French Mirage III. Despite some shortcomings, mainly due to inadequate radar and missiles, the type soon achieved fame in combat. Israeli Mirage III pilots first met their opponents in MiG-21s in 1964, but the first encounter that resulted in an air victory took place in July 1966. Tensions between Israel and Syria were high when number four pilot in a Mirage flight, Yoram Agmon spotted two low flying MiG-21s over Golan Heights.
VSN Mirage III mod for DCS World enables us to investigate the exciting history of aerial engagements in Arab-Israeli conflicts.

The Mirage III was such a beautiful plane!
It's hard not to like French design.
especially with the silver paint scheme
@@16rumpole
No paint. Aluminum, with no paint as of yet.
I agree. Looks very similar to the F106 Delta Dart That I worked on as an Air Force technician in the 1970s.
Not only was it the first Mirage III victory, but was the first ever (of many) MiG-21 downed too.
Mirage was Shahak nmr 59, it is said that after landing, ground crew found it fired exactly 59 shots for this kill.
So the sources say.
Always look forward to your content. Another 2 thumbs up, keep up the great work!

Awesome introduction, it really looks like a 60s era video.
Thanks, I was quite happy with how that came out.

Which simulator is the mod for?
Another excellent video, Showtime112. The Mirage IIICJ served very well with the Israeli Air Force. Actually this happened to be my first 1/72 model and was made by Airfix. Please keep up the excellent work. It is entertaining. Thanks.
I'm glad you enjoy this content, thank you for your support!
@@showtime112 You are very welcome. Every piece of excellent work deserves much appreciation.
@@showtime112 : I really enjoy your documentaries. I hope you will take the following comment to heart. There is one problem. The engine noise of the aircraft or aircrafts 100% of the time overwhelms your voice and it is extremely difficult to hear what you are saying. I hope you can do you something to make these videos more listenable. I listen to and watch a lot of videos. Yours are very professional, and it is a lapse of production quality to have the background noise overwhelming your narration. I know that others have commented similarly and you have dismissed them. I wouldn’t do that. I would make the recommended changes because we are sincere about what we are saying. I stopped listening to this video because it was simply too difficult to hear what you were saying.
@@steveperreira5850 Well, thanks for the feedback. What I can tell you is that a lot of effort is put into adjusting sound levels precisely for each little segment of these videos. It really doesn't feel like the voice is impossible to recognize and reducing the background volume would make the videos loose the edge a bit and changing to the parts without narration would be a too big jump. Transitions don't work well when there's such a difference in volume levels. If that's still not enough, there are always manually edited subtitles.
Great content as always, keep up the good work!
Thank you for your support!
@@showtime112 bro there are so many stories of airwars in the middle east. Can you make a content on the mig25 dogfight with f15 in gulf war.
@@mrxyz8366 Probably. The MiG-25s did a certain type of maneuvers and in DCS, this type is AI only. But I suppose it could be done.

the silver paint scheme of the Mirage 3s just gave them an amazing look; what a beautiful plane.
Silver and camouflage skins are so much better looking than this modern day grey that almost everyone uses.
@@showtime112 on eBay there are some companies in the Philippines that will make 16 inch wood models of planes. I bought a silver Israeli mirage 3 model. It’s expensive but beautiful. I also got a really nice looking MiG 21 from them
Another excellent video. Despite a few shortcomings the Mirage III C proved to be a powerful interceptor, flown by excellent pilots.
In the years leading up to the Six Day War, relations between France and Israel were deteriorating. President de Gaulle was shifting his policy away from traditional partners. France didn't even deliver 50 aircraft that had already been paid for by Israel.
That's right, thanks for contributing info.

Yup, the French know how to design pretty things :)
Beautiful historic camo!
After camouflage skins, the best looking ones are probably natural metal ones!

I like it 👌
It's good to hear!
Great video, as always. Do give us more videos about Arab-Israeli air war and also Vietnam air war, please.
Btw, do you know older games from Third Wire Productions? They have games about the Arab-Israeli air war and also Vietnam air war. The graphics is nowhere close to DCS (the flight modelling also), but they did have more aircraft types suitable for the era. If you have it, then probably you could use them when you make reenactment videos in these eras.
Well, I'm certainly going to do more Vietnam and Arab-Israeli stuff, especially when the hi-fi Phantom shows up. As for the Third Wire games, I'm not sure that would work today. My graphic settings are already lower than most serious channels' 😁
@@showtime112 I just learned yesterday that they're upgrading their Strike Fighters line up to make it more compatible with Windows 10. Dunno how much better the graphics are going to be, but frankly I'm interested in the upgrade. Might purchase the new versions of WoV and WoI, since I personally don't have the time or money to invest in DCS.

This is a legend. Muslims are known fir rewriting History in their favor. According to them the 1973 Yom Kippur war was a great Arab victory that is obviously totally false.
the israelis are the best pilots in the world with 1:28 victorys on the arabs

By the way, there's a small group of devs working on a Kfir C.2/C.7 module, and they recently applied to become a third-party dev group

Hi ! There might be a mistake in the closeups of the Mirage. The models sent to Israel were badged "Mirage 3 CJ", with a "J" for "Jewish". Marcel Dassault, AKA Marcel Bloch was himself Jewish and sent to a nazi extermination camp during the WWII.
The Mirage III is a mod and the skins are not exactly 100% accurate. The airplane is just a C.
Beautiful! Is it a mod?
Yes, it's been around for a while. Made by VSN, along with various other mods.
Great video do you think you can do a video about hte mirage pilot that fended off something like 16 mig 21s

Is this a custom model for a module or a full mod?
It's a mod which uses some of the FC3 elements (such as the cockpit). Flight model is just basic.
Love the content, but I do wish you'd go back to the typeface you were previously using for the on-screen text.
Thanks! I'll consider it. I used to use a font which resembles a typewriter (in accordance with the times that the videos take place in). This seems more unique and recognizable though.

Shortcoming, the radar ? Who had a look-down radar in 1956, when the III came out ?
Or what mig 21 did in 1966, or ever for that matter ?
Mirage's radar was just dead weight for the Israelis. Useless for their purposes. They actually removed them after the 1967. war. So yes, the airplane was deigned for a different purpose and it had shortcomings.
Thanks!
I somehow missed to thank you for this one...
I'd no idea that DCS modelled the 3-C! I've seen the 2000, sure, but the old model....how?
It's a mod by VSN. They also created some other Cold War era fighters such as F-104 and F-105. It is relatively simple and it borrows the cockpit from FC3 but look alright externally. But it seems that Razbam is developing Mirage III, they mentioned it on their Discord.
@@showtime112 Wow! Thank you for your reply! You don't get the views you deserve, with your 'mini-features'.....great 'production values' you might say!
Again, thanks for letting me know.
The plane was really good. But it was the pilots that made it so great.
I will give this video a thumps up for all the effort making it but the sound is very problematic trying to hear what you say over the engine sounds....😐
In those earlier videos, voice was recorded together with the game footage which made mixing impossible. Almost nobody complained they couldn't understand so I didn't see it as a problem. More recent videos are much bettet in that aspect. But most of them have a manually edited English subtitles to help with that. Anyway, thanks for pointing out.
@@showtime112 yeah I can see the problem. Lowering the game environment sounds while recording would saved you more effort later.
Usually I don’t rely on automatic subtitles because they can be wrong at points but it's good to have this option always.
👍👍
@@hariszark7396 That's why I edit the subtitles. I correct errors, add full stops and commas etc.

I don't play WT but from whatever footage I've seen, it looks as gamey as it possibly could. Sure, Mirage III in DCS is just a mod so the model is not as good as high-fidelity commercial modules. But still, that makes no sense to me.
Jocko Podcast have a good video whit eye whitnesses regarding your video. No wonder you turned the comments of.
Liberty veterans actually contacted me. But all I did was a rational analysis of what made sense to me and what didn't. And like to dislike ration is still at 92% so I guess there are people who like that kind of an approach.

AIM9J in 1966?
That's actually a B but that's not historically correct either. Mirages were carrying Shafrirs. Those are not available in DCS. No simulation has every little thing historically correct, that would be impossible so don't expect that here.
Related to Arab Israel wars are accounts of Pakistani pilots Sattar Alvi and Saiful Azam (later Bangladesh'Air force) and their kills against IAF. You might find excellent content for another show on that side of story.
I've got quite a few suggestions for that. I need to find some sources covering it in detail.
But the result is Not that they were differend pilots who shot down trainee and cargo aircrafts of iaf rather than interceptors
@@mrxyz8366 Sattar Alvi shot down a mirage 3 . The man is alive, and his interviews are Available. As regards Late Saiful Azam, he was honored as an "Eagle" by Gathering of Eagles foundation USA....hardly likely for someone who , as you said, merely shot down trainee and cargo planes, sidestepping the question for the moment why trainee sorties will be carried out amid a war!
