  • This was a request from my eldest son. I dug the song overall. Not a huge fan of some of the vocal technique. The sound and feel of the song was pretty badass. However, the way I felt this song building should've been leading to a MASSIVE breakdown. One that alter space and time. But that did not happen. I really liked the main vocals though.

Mushroomhead had a pre-Mushroomhead version of the band called Hatrix.. the same guys just in a simple 4 piece line up.. the had the clean lead singer not the heavy guy and pretty much every song has a brain melting guitar solo.. the style is more of an old school vintage treat... I suggest you try a tune called Bad Religion and see if you like that set up better..

For what it's worth coming from a faceless stranger, as viewers we like you to hear the song for what it is, and not what you think you want it to be. This is your first time reaction to a song that we mostly grew up with from a time where we were not yet jaded by constant criticisms, and comparisons. We have heard these songs so much that it's almost insulting that you think you would know better than the band who maticulously crafted the song to bring it to life with no fat, no extra bullcrap, and musicality above technique. I don't think you meant it like that, but that's how it comes off to some people. Anyone with ears and a brain can hear how good these songs are from even just the songwriting perspective. Musicians, and bands often spend years trying to write just one song that is even close to this without heavy airplay, and pre internet, and Mushroomhead had many of those songs in their career, and they are still doing it their way which only they can do. It doesn't take a lot of effort to hear it, and I am a long time guitarist myself, and grew up with that instrument, so I have been through the cynical, and judgemental side of different genre's of music, and being a loyal fanboy of certain genres instead of a musician, but as a middle aged man, I quit worrying about the superficial shit, and focused on the songs themselves, and everything that was happening within them musically. I really recommend you give this song another few listens on your own time when you get the chance. WHo knows, you might grow to hear what I hear in it the more you hear it, but you can't help if it's just not your taste of music you like. I can really respect that as a musician. Your critiques are well thought, and I know where your coming from with it. Just keep in mind where the minds of your audience are with the music we value most. If you can't hear the extreme musicality, and the simplicity while still holding a lot of musicality, and variation with such distortion on the guitars, and vocals. It's the flow of the lyrics that make this entire song what it is. The fact that you expected the song to ultimately build into a breakdown of some sort shows me that you don't yet understand what type of band Mushroomhead is. If you want to hear songs with great breakdowns, listen to some good Slam Death Metal, or Suffocation, and Death Metal in general which I love personally. This isn't that type of band. Mushroomhead is far more unique in their approach and sound. They aproach songwriting thinking only about technicality with simplicity that serves the songs themselves with no extra fat. It's not always about doing more when you already have a chorus, lyrics, message, and verse that is going to live in people's minds for decades until we die. It becomes something special like your favorite sweater that you wear in the winter. Songs have these lives of their own.

I saw what I think. I felt the song needed a significant breakdown. To me, it was disappointing without it. Thank you for your comment. Please Like, Subscribe, and hit the Notification’s Bell if you haven’t already!!

Thanks! I don’t plan to do a version of my own. But if I wrote a song that builds like that I’d have surely made a breakdown that was absolutely crushing!!

Have you heard The Warning? They had a viral cover of 'Enter Sandman' when they were 14, 12, and 9 (!) years old in 2014 that got Metallica's attention. Kirk Hammett tweeted that "the drummer kicks maximum ass!" They are now on their 3rd album and ready to start their world tour, after headlining their own tour in 2022, plus touring with Halestorm and The Pretty Reckless, touring with Three Days Grace, touring with Muse, and also opening for Foo Fighters and GNR. Songs: The Teatro Metropolitan 'Animosity', 'Disciple', and 'Evolve'. Sorry, can't post links or YT will delete my comment, but it's easy to find their channel and the Teatro Met videos are at the top.

I do not. The vocal sounds a bit like Jeff Scott Soto to me. (Sons of Apollo).

Wayne static does have a good raspy growl n yell. i could see their rap/ock singer (forgot hit name) sounding similar with slowed down rock lyrics. but i love mushy head bc the are so different compared to a Loy of metal and m.
Speaking of..... the remaining band members of static x, teamed up w the lead singer of dope, and are touring. Believe it or not they covered nine inch nails terrible lie.... and i BELIEVE because they found Wayne statics recorded lyrics from when alive still recently .......
they way they did it sounds phenomenal and i get their strange feeling wayne approves of this msg and cause for touring again w out him.
love all the ppl above, so this was an epic moment in human history for me.
