Love it! I’ve noticed a connection between top moto and mtb guys having a history in bmx and pump track racing, those guys usually have the best technique and get away with making lines out of what looks like nothing. Efficiency of speed in its purest form
Getting a dirt jumper and riding at pump tracks has made a mahooosive improvement to my trail riding. I’m actually kinda blown away, just wish I started sooner. Also thanks for talking about the awareness of kids and giving them space. I've seen some close calls, usually with young adults / teenagers overtaking little kids at speed. A bigger rider falling on them little rippers can cause serious injury.
Aaron does such a great job in these tutorial videos. There's a lot of information packed into a short time, but it never feels rushed and Aaron explains everything so clearly. Nice safety first section at the end. There's a lot of tutorial video series out there, but think Aaron's are the best. I've been mountain biking since 1994, raced DH in the 90s and still do some enduro multi-day races, and I still get a lot from these videos. Thanks Aaron and good luck for the season.
A lot of motorcycle and car enthusiasts will tell you that you'll learn more in one track day than you will in years of driving/riding in the twisties. I would have to say riding a pump track does the same for mountain biking. Learning to carry momentum is a game changer on the trails. I went from riding my brakes all through a trail, then when I got a DJ and started hitting Lake Cunningham Action Sports Park, I became so much more faster because not only did I stop comfort braking through trails, I also became much better and confident at cornering. I even became better at rock gardens and pump tracks don't have them. It also helps build stamina for the downhills
Top quality video Aaron! I know lots of young riders will benefit heaps watching these videos. It's awesome to see the dedication and effort you put on these videos. 👏
Really nice that you commented on flat pedals. I am a road cyclist/bike messenger that always runs clipped and also just got a dirt jumper to ride my two local pumptracks. I find it very frustrating that I often get very light on the pedals or lose contact and already wanted to switch over to clipped here as well, but I guess I just need to develop better technique
Thank you very much Aaron! I would appreciate it if you could show the position of the feet on the pedals on all kinds of trails, and how to use the brakes safely on the loose descents
Great video mate! Just started pump tracking recently myself and have found all the things you mentioned to be true. Helps with trails/dh/technique/fitness. Good guide!
Every single mountain biker should be watching this video, regardless of skill and age and experience and all that. This is THE fundamentals to riding better, and as a coach the pump track is one of the first things I recommend. Thanks for doing this video Aaron, if there is anyone that riders should be listening to for tips its you! Look forward to seeing more in the future!
If a world cup win with a snapped chain right out of the start gate is not a case in point for pump tracks, I don't know what is... Great explanations in the video!
The only pump track I know of in my country, it's very small. Makes it difficult to build up speed and I realise how much I fear going through the berms since I'm still very much a beginner (at 38 years old).
Tire pressure: use higher tire pressure on the pump track than on the trail. I'll go to 40psi or more on the pump track, then back down for the trail. Good video!
@@s.lacasse8337 Agreed 60 to 65-68 psi here, based on my familiarity with the track. As well as the proper road tire for connectivity vs the trail tires.
So rad I just started riding my local pump track with my son's 6 & 4. I was very surprised at first the workout and second how my ability of being able to generate speed has grown. Also I really take to time to practice looking at the exist of turns and body position on the track. When I'm not smoked mtbing iv noticed the carry over from the pump track.
I ride the pump track on my DH bike. Exhausting, lol. It's so different than riding a more rigid bike as the travel of the DH just sucks up energy forcing you to really learn how to carry the momentum and be efficient.
My biggest gripe with mtb right now. You need good facilities to get good. The jumps me and my friends spend hours sculpting will never be as good as a council made track
such a great video, and on an awesome pump track! That berm gap across the top deck into the grass was insane edit: and shout out to that other rider who was shredding with aaron
I'm picking up mountain biking at age 48, and it definitely seems like I should invest the money in a jump bike and take it to the track. I'm obviously never going to be a pro downhill racer, but I see no reason why I can't aspire to big jump lines!
you're more ambitious than me. I'm 39 and just started learning to jump, but I don't think I'll ever hit those big ones. I really wish I could, they look fun as hell, but they also look like any small mistake would result in a long hospital stay and no more riding for a very, very long time.
if you can't clear jumps in pump trcuk no matter how good your cornering you not going to maintain speed...almost all bmx truck riders rides clip pedals and does much faster time on pump truck
It would be interesting to hear about your preferred foot placement on the pedal. What do you think of the Pedaling Innovations Catalyst pedals and the recommended foot forward philosophy?
Not a single (public) pump track within hours of where I live or a community that would ever go for it, sadly. And there is no reason why, since the area is great for MTB. It's like nobody cares about bikes at all here. You could count the trails worth the climb within 50 miles on one hand. So I doubt I'll be getting any good practice in soon.
Everybody who has a bike should be riding these pump tracks if they can access one, but for anybody thinking of buying a dirt jump mountain bike to use for riding pump tracks, you should carefully consider if you would be better off with a BMX bike. I have dirt jump mountain bikes and BMX bikes, I never ride the dirt jumpers at the concrete pump track, they're flexy, weak, delicate, expensive, and too long. Its a lot more fun on my BMX, and easier for me to generate speed. If I was buying a bike to ride pump tracks, definitely BMX for me personally.
that's not something that's really up to personal opinion. I mean anyone can do what they want but the general rule is pretty well established because it's what works. on flat corners you drop the outside foot, on berms you keep your feet level. the turns at pump tracks are all berms, so you would keep your feet level there.
I don't know,is this guy really qualified to talk about carrying momentum, with just one chainless world cup win?All I know is if Aaron believes his bike is sorted, the competition is in big trouble this upcoming Worldcup season.
😂 Yeah, not even a proper win either, it was only by 0.045 of a second, and that was probably because his transponder was mounted lower down on his fork.
A hardtail bike in general is the best for pump tracks, but lots of people use dirt jumpers like Aaron in this video or people also use bmx bikes. Having rear suspension on full suspension bikes can kill your pumping momentum on pump tracks
@@GwinnerTube thanks. My 27.5 feels a bit crowded on the pump track. I had a look at a 26" BMX recently which was pretty cool. I might revisit it. Need a bigger shed though..

One of our favorite pump tracks to build.
its so much fun to ride! Could use just a tiny bit of TLC though!
Love that pump track! Shout-out to SORBA mid tn

So smooth, so awesome!
Means a lot coming from a guy who won a world cup without a chain.
Also the way he delivers his knowledge is pretty much perfect, great for learning
Thumbs up to Claudio Calori and team for all the pump tracks they have built around the world, pretty f-in cool,Cheers Claudio, well done!

Man, this video was soo good! I feel blessed every time I get to be taught by the best 👌
well said, please do more pump track related videos 🙏
Excellent, helpful video and explanation! And spot on regarding the little kids on the track
Definitely agree with the cornering on the pump track. I can pump and row pretty well but I have to admit that I loose speed on the berms
Really good advice, nicely put together and explained. Thanks.
Best mtb videos ever!
Thanks Aaron,
Trying to get a pump track here in La Veta CO currently. Great video, keep the awesome content flowing!
Amen! I've always thought pump tracks are the best way i've ever made improvements.
Thanks for sharing !!!
Soo good!!! I watch your videos again and again.
I love your acknowledgment of being aware and respectful for the little kids and to be nice and remember we were all once them too.
except he said they were all us once. which doesn't actually make any sense if you think about it
I remember when this cat was starting out at the local Fontucky races with EC and House.
This is awesome, thank you.

100%, people develop poor technique with jumping or bunny hopping as they can pull up on the pedals when clipped in. Flats to learn on, race in clips.
Thanks Aaron for the very informative video!

Agreed. I try to hit up the local pump track atleast once a week and it's the one thing that really helped me be a better rider
100% I have used pump tracks and bmx tracks to work my tech skills for a good 20+ years.
Really enjoyed this ❤️ and appreciate it ✅️

It’s near downtown Nashville, TN 👍🏼
nice video

that's not something that's really up to personal opinion.
