Very well done review. I am looking for a Fenix 6 and you touched on most of my concerns, including the size, weight and excessive program choices. Had to laugh at your comments regarding notification overload. Growing up we had a phone in the kitchen. Thats it! Now you are expected to stop whatever your doing and respond. I refuse. Thank you.
Respectfully, you say the fenix functionality is overwhelming..... Can I put it this way... If you use Microsoft Office for example, what parts do you use most often within the whole package - Word 80%, Excel 10%, Powerpoint 2%, Publisher 2%, Access 0%. So, my comment here is that the 'overwhelming' functionality of the Garmin fits all types of users just like Microsoft Office, or OpenOffice for that matter. GOOD WORK Garmin.
This is a superb review. You covered all the points I consider to be important. I still enjoy my fenix 5x plus. But your review has encouraged me to buy the fenix 6 pro (47mm) for my son, who has never owned a sport watch.
Ive used multiple types of watches ranging from apple series 8/apple ultra watch, and 3x different types of Garmin watches (inclusing the fenix 6X) thus far i find the garmin fenix 6x to have the best battery life. Even the apple ultra watch only lasts about 2 days. Having this one lasts up to 80 days is amazing. Especially when going hiking and using the gps helps (although with gps mode on the battery does get drained quicker.) But having a solor powered charger pack i can have an endless supply of charging ability while out camping or hiking. Hands down its an amazing watch. Yes the fact there is no touch screen having the buttons and learning which each does makes navigation a breeze.
Thanks for the great video. Just upgraded from the original Fenix to 6 pro on special...,,£300 unfortunately they did not have 42mm..so next up 47mm Original was 49mm thx again
I just bought mine in August 2023, and nearly made the mistake of going with the Fenix 6 Pro Solar, thinking that the 6X would be too large as he says. I was actually misinformed by Garmin in an online chat, and told that the only difference between the 6 Pro Solar and 6X Pro Solar was size. Very untrue - the chief advantage of the 6X Pro Solar is a much greater battery life - it is TEN DAYS more than the 6. And truly, after wearing it for the past two weeks, I don't mind the size at all. It certainly would not have been worth the compromise to go with the 6 on that basis alone.
I have considered getting a Garmin watch myself just to simplify the amount of tech and ease of switching bike to bike. My current Lezyne Macro GPS computer is pretty basic and was cheap at $99 USD. I myself ended up disconnecting the alert feature because when I go out for a ride, I really don't want to be bothered with the constant bombardment of emails, messages, etc. Thanks for a quick review, and yes that thing looks like a tank (big). Glad to see the Roscoe is still with you. My 2020 developed a crack along a weld on the seat stay. Got a warranty frame replacement and still loving it. Good to see you posting again.
The functions you're not fussy on are the reason I want it. 😂. I currently have the fenix 3hr, I've had it for a few years. I spend alot if time in the mountains , hiking and trail running. I feel I'm due an upgrade and the fenix 6x Pro is the one I want. 😊
I agree! When my last Apple watch died and was looking for a new sports watch to track all my activities I loved not having notifications and all the extra features that required constant updates and battery only lasted couple days. I got the regular Garmin 6 sapphire and couldn’t be happier.
Notifications is something they just need to overhaul. It's just done bad. I would like to get notifications from specific apps with the ability to setup a time when it's justified.
Love my phenix 6s pro SD solar. I agree this is the best sport watch that comes with many extra function that I didn't use it. 😅😅😅 I will definitely buy it again.
I got a 1 month old 6X Sapphire today for $275 usd off fb marketplace. I sold my 955 solar and got this one instead. Feel like I got a steal. This watch is a beast
I have had mine 2 years as of next month. I'm barely able to get 5 days on the battery and I'm not using any of the great features except I loaded it with MP3s so that I can use bluetooth while I mow the yard. The display is also darkish, even at 100% brightness that autodims. I really do like the clasp mechanism, it is great for adding on other bands.
Mate, if you love all that data on your big screen, you would regret 6s display. I had fenix 5 before my 6x and i definitely couldnt come back to smaller display, and thats in between size wise
I am an indoor rower using a Concept2/MP5 and have owned now for 3yrs a Garmin Fenix 6X Pro and very satisfied with it BUT: My biggest disappointment is that my Garmin Fenix 6X Pro does not register the data off the MP5 as Power in Watts! I am sure you know how useful that data would be? So, have I failed to notice something or can this weakness be fixed?
After owning my 6x sapphire that I bought used for $275. I barely notice it on my wrist. I owned a forerunner 955, but then I sold it for the Fenix 6x and I couldn't be happier. For me, the premium look that I can use in both a business casual environment and in my workouts was what put it over the top. I am primarily a cyclist (mtb most) and strength trainer, so the Fenix 6x sapphire was it for me. I will wait 3 more years then buy a Fenix 7x sapphire plus to get the flashlight and step up in sensors.
I dont find that the battery lasts as long as you say. I don’t use music and my screen is no way as bright as yours. However I do have notifications enabled and it just might be because of that. I’m going to turn them off as I too don’t see the point - it vibrates in my pocket and on my wrist at the same time !! 😂
I've had a basic Pro 6 for just over a year now and if lost/broken/stolen I'd buy another straight away. I'm a cyclist, riding 3-4 times per week on road, gravel & MTB - it records all my rides and then auto loads into Connect and then Strava, Battery life is just brill, I can easily do a week with lots of activities without charging. Also because the battery life is so good I wear it 24/7, only removing to charge it when sat working. Only gripe is that I can't find a watch face with hands that are highlighted (say in red). As for all the phone-like functions, I carry my phone for that so haven't bothered with them.
Great equipment. Tell me, did you put a protective film on the display? You say that you have been using it for quite a long time, hence my question whether it makes sense to stick a protective glass on the display.
Yes, I tend to put a protective film on. Nothing super expensive. Usually about £10 or so. My top tip is to get clear film as a matt finish detracts from the sharpness of the display!
@@mtbrookie596 I bought a hydrogel one installed at a GSM service. After drying, it is practically unnoticeable, although I have the impression that no matter how fast it is, it slightly worsens the visibility of the display without the foil on.
i just got 6s pro solar.. very happy with the size. it looks girly because of the color but then i bought the black case n strap for it. looks manly now 😂
The guy mentions alarms, but the sound on mine is so low as to be almost useless. My Fenix 3 was the same, but I just thought that it might be faulty..
Annoying garniny pay doesn't accept barclay a main bank so I can never use the feature! Glad to no I am not missing out much. I also find the vibrating kinda of annoying and to load.
How was a 2022 watch, not a touchscreen. I'm tired of recharging a watch. 51mm watch case. Are you F'n kidding me? Rhetorical. The Samsung Galaxy Gear S had those features 10 years ago, and you could actually use it as an independent phone. Not a slave. Are you going to mention the cost of a GPS watch? For the price, it should- The 6 Pro or S gets worse battery life and doesn't have as many features. Solars are more but, you get slightly better battery life. The thing should last 2 years on a charge, like a real watch and then some and turn off everything when you don't use it. (Yes, I know about conservative battery modes.) I'm tired of having to charge a watch up. Enduro at 1200 dollars for all. That's a bigger and more expense monster. Horrid. These are for outdoor activities but, mostly for looks. I'd take a fenix sapphire 7, that only told the time. ;)

Agree with all. Just picked one up - but only paid 30% of retail. Otherwise, would have passed.

"auto loads", I believe you should still select "save" at the end of a session? mine works that way.
The 6s is probably too small for men's wrists. And Garmin has shortened the bands on these ...
Would you now go for the 7 or the 7Pro ?

thanks for fantastic review
My pleasure
What’s the name of the Watch face on your thumbnail?? Must have.
Yes it’s a cool Watch face. It’s called Coros Vertix2
7x solar saphire is the best ever
Nice honest review
The first watch face that is shown what is it called.
Excellent review meneer. How lank al is jy op die Isle of Man?
22 years and counting!
Mine reads Sapphire but end up with screen scratched.
The guy mentions alarms, but the sound on mine is so low as to be almost useless. My Fenix 3 was the same, but I just thought that it might be faulty..
Nice review
I just ordered a Fenix 6x pro and the main reason is that I find the Venu2 too small on my wrist. Venu2 is 45,4 mm
Booom! Enjoy!!
Is the fenix 6x pro solar touch screen?
I hate notifications. Never use or read them . I need a smartwatch just record my outdoor activity.
Are you from SA? Thanks for the review!
Yes I am!
I think the Garmin instinct 2 can do all these features with lesser price and lighter weight. Have you consider it before?
I love the look of the Instinct. My only gripe is that it doesn’t have a colour display. Not a massive issue, but it is nice to have colour contrast!
Instinct lacks maps. I love the look of the instinct but utilize the maps way too often. I went from the Fenix 6X to the 7X, what an upgrade!
6x pro solar. 54g and a 7g enduro band. Feels light and great.
What is the watch face
great review, I was looking at the Fenix 7 the other day..
Thanks! I don’t think you can go wrong!
I just bought a 6x sapphire for $230 and my wrist is 6.5 inches 🤣😅
Hey what other watch bands do you have for the Fenix 6x?
I have various straps bought through Amazon UK primarily. Red, green, orange for sport and leather for more formal occasions!
Annoying garniny pay doesn't accept barclay a main bank so I can never use the feature! Glad to no I am not missing out much. I also find the vibrating kinda of annoying and to load.
