Ive worked at a daycare and 99% of children do not want to stop playing for their diaper to be changed. They dont understand that if their diaper doesnt get changed after being soiled, theyll get a rash. They dont understand the consequences of not being changed. They would rather play with their toys.
Also, Daz is 100% right that babies do not have control over their bodies. Ive seen infants try to get food in their mouth for like 20 min because they cant figure out how to move their hands from the plate to their mouth. Ive literally watched a baby try to est a cheerio and smash it into their forehead repeatedly while their mouth is wide open and drooling.
Does the baby know that making eye contact is giving consent? Do you think they come out the womb understanding languages? I dont speak Japanese but if someone was asking for my consent in Japanese telling me that eye contact is giving consent, how am i supposed to know? How do you explain something to someone without them being able to understand your language?

If you allow a baby be on his/her nappy all day, that will lead to neglect and then the parent will get arrested and put in prison or jail, for neglect. Then that baby will grow up thinking that their parents are bad people. This woman may be neglected as a baby and that may be the cause of her saying you should ask permission from a baby to change their nappy.

Let’s be real here; All children want to do is play, they don’t want to sleep, they don’t want their nappies done and sometimes they don’t even want to eat because they want to get to a certain toy first or be the first at an activity, trust me, I’ve seen it. I’m a daycare educator and I’ve had my fair share of children who refuse to get their nappies changed.
You can only allow the child to sit in a dirty nappy for so long. Until eventually, you have to make the child get on that changing table. If I have a room full of kids and I ask one to have their nappy changed, most likely they will say no, shake their head or even walk away, I would say to them “okay, I’ll do the others first, then it’s your turn”
Now once it does come to their turn, they may still refuse, or yell at me. This is when I get assertive “we have to change your nappy, or you will get a sore bottom” Sometimes they agree, sometimes they sulk, sometimes I have to pick up the child and get through a 1 minute tantrum all because their peer is going to pick up the toy they were playing with 2 hours ago. I’m quite lucky with the group of Toddies I have because I have spent my time with them, making nappy changing something that’s fun rather than a chore. I would look at the child across the room and yell “(child’s name) It’s your turn!!!!yay!” A lot of the time the child will run to me while laughing, we crack jokes, we laugh, we talk about things like their family, or their school day and we point out the pictures and stickers on the walls. Before they know it, the nappy is clean and they are happy. I don’t really ask for consent, I invite them.
