People in abusive relationships who can't go anywhere or take care of themselves, usually women, won't leave their abusive partners because they have no support on the outside, so they stay with them. And this guy is almost certainly against birth control so just saying "wear a condom" is not a solution that holds merit. This is the guy who said he would drown his kid for being gay. This is the guy who says women can't get jobs. His wife probably doesn't know how to support herself without him so she has no choice. Again, how would I know? I am a Catholic woman who grew up with a stay at home dad and my mom worked. I am so thankful to have grown up with the influence of an intelligent and hardworking mother and a loving, supportive father. We still hold many traditional values, but we believe in equality and the individuality of every person. I feel terrible for his daughters, there’s nothing more freeing than going off and being independent. Once I get married I might become a stay at home mom if I want to, but it’s good to have work experience and higher education in case I don’t.

I actually disagree with the hyper religious and strict/controlling style of parenting. I think that leads to kids rebelling in a more serious way with more dangerous stuff. My cousins were raised in a church-2-days-of-the-week and-twice-on-Sunday type of family, with very strict/controlling parents. They told their kids what to believe. They went wild when they hit 18. My childhood was kind of a mix. I have gone to church 2-3 times per week and I have not gone for YEARS. My parents were not very strict though they were a bit of a helicopter parent and we did have our issues. My parents will have religious debates/discussions with us without getting mad if we didn't agree. None of us got into any of the freaky stuff that my cousins did when we hit 18. Were also closer as a family I think. Obviously I don't know what kind of a parent he and his wife are but one way or another they will get a choice and their parents may not like what they choose. I do agree that he shouldn't try to control them but he still only has a certain amount of control and only until a certain point.

I think that that is the best way to open a dialogue with children and not just about religion. I can talk to my mom about just about everything and she won't freak out. That's an important thing. A lot of the universally accepted things are in the Bible. But there are things outside of the Bible that they are going to need to know about and know how to handle, like the internet and drugs. There are things out there that they need to be aware of and know the dangers of them. A lot of strict and controlling parents think that they can shield their kids from that stuff for their childhoods and then they either won't encounter it or won't be interested in it. That's unlikely to be true though so the parents need to prepare them for that. If they disagree with something that is accepted by a large number of people (such as evolution vs creationism) they also need to explain that to them and why they don't believe in it. Especially if they want their kids to remain Christian. In short they can't protect their kids from everything so prepare them for anything. Also give them a little bit more freedom at a time so by the time they hit 18 they know how to say no for themselves instead of having only been told no instead of learning self control and self confidence. Btw he is plain wrong about women being barred from working. Women in the Bible did work. Jesus was revolutionary about how he treated women. At that time women were not seen as NEARLY equal to men, but Jesus treated them with dignity. Also the Christian faith and (especially debated) ideas was never supposed to be forced on someone. Jesus never attacked anyone or forced anyone to listen to him or to do as he said. Some people forget that.

@@wursteh5728 I never said it didn't, but the Bible also talks about good stewardship and in the case of global warming, overpopulation drives up climate change and causes more carbon to be released into the atmosphere either through maintaining those lives or through the number of people breathing out carbon dioxide or releasing carbon in death. This would present a moral dilemma in which the greater good must be achieved, and I would think that being able to be fruitful and multiply would not be something possible if the human race became extinct from global warming. Also saying be fruitful and multiply doesn't necessarily mean have 11 children, there should be some level of responsibility as to the number of children you have. I am very well aware of these passages in the Bible but I do also have the knowledge of many passages in the Bible which could just as easily mean that a Christian who follows certain rules no matter what is not being a good Christian under certain circumstances, which in this case is what he would be, a bad Christian, and I wanted to point out that it can be interpreted this way since this pastor seems to think he is an exemplary Christian, when in reality he is taking the Bible at face value and not using any critical thinking skills, sort of like how he thinks stopping the women in his family from working is Christian, when I am certain that there are also examples in the Bible of businesswomen (Lydia in Acts comes to mind) which if he had noticed means that women weren't actually prevented from working in even the Bible and he probably took one passage out of context at face value and it resulted in a terrible ideology. It would also mean he is not being a good Christian since he'd be acting like a Pharisee and not applying the most important rule Christians have which is to love one another, since, again if he used his critical thinking skills, he would realise that a lot of the times context is needed in order for something to be a loving action as opposed to something which could be harmful. And since the New Testament holds more weight for Christians, Jesus' most important commandment would therefore hold the most weight in making moral decisions therefore meaning he is a hypocrite to call himself a Christian.
Unless he is emotionally or physically abusing his children (or a threat of it) I don’t believe CPS will get involved. I do wish his kids safety and hopefully the ability to choose their own paths once they are adults.

I am a Catholic woman who grew up with a stay at home dad and my mom worked. I am so thankful to have grown up with the influence of an intelligent and hardworking mother and a loving, supportive father. We still hold many traditional values, but we believe in equality and the individuality of every person. I feel terrible for his daughters, there’s nothing more freeing than going off and being independent. Once I get married I might become a stay at home mom if I want to, but it’s good to have work experience and higher education in case I don’t.

I'll be honest, as a female teen, my worst nightmare for adult life would be married to a person I fell out of love with, with several kids who keep me from divorcing him, and not having time for a career, as someone who's very excited by careers and opportunities, I never really wanted kids, or a partner as much as I want a happy career, this disgusts me to no end, and I feel awful for his daughters and wife and sons.
Edit: Ok the mental illness thing is just painful, as someone who suffered because of mental illness, I can't imagine being brainwashed into believing that I'm being punished for something, while I'm dying in the inside.

He is IF they don't want the same thing he does or is manipulative and/or emotionally abusive in order to keep them in that lifestyle. I personally don't agree with him on wives not being allowed to work but I've wanted to be a stay at home mom with a metric ton kids for most of my life. Being a stay at home mom of 8+ sounds amazing. Some people would actually want that.
If they don't or if he is manipulated them to do as he wants then it's abusive. I wouldn't need to be manipulated to live that life. There are women of all kinds and we can't really tell what kind of wife he has without talking to her.
@Alextries Art once his kids hit 18 it will be up to them. He only THINKS he will be able to tell them what to do. I actually disagree with the hyper religious and strict/controlling style of parenting. I think that leads to kids rebelling in a more serious way with more dangerous stuff. My cousins were raised in a church-2-days-of-the-week and-twice-on-Sunday type of family, with very strict/controlling parents. They told their kids what to believe. They went wild when they hit 18.
My childhood was kind of a mix. I have gone to church 2-3 times per week and I have not gone for YEARS. My parents were not very strict though they were a bit of a helicopter parent and we did have our issues. My parents will have religious debates/discussions with us without getting mad if we didn't agree. None of us got into any of the freaky stuff that my cousins did when we hit 18. Were also closer as a family I think.
Obviously I don't know what kind of a parent he and his wife are but one way or another they will get a choice and their parents may not like what they choose. I do agree that he shouldn't try to control them but he still only has a certain amount of control and only until a certain point.
@Alextries Art My mom tells me that she will tell me what she believes but I should make up my own mind. I think that that is the best way to open a dialogue with children and not just about religion. I can talk to my mom about just about everything and she won't freak out. That's an important thing. A lot of the universally accepted things are in the Bible. But there are things outside of the Bible that they are going to need to know about and know how to handle, like the internet and drugs. There are things out there that they need to be aware of and know the dangers of them. A lot of strict and controlling parents think that they can shield their kids from that stuff for their childhoods and then they either won't encounter it or won't be interested in it. That's unlikely to be true though so the parents need to prepare them for that. If they disagree with something that is accepted by a large number of people (such as evolution vs creationism) they also need to explain that to them and why they don't believe in it. Especially if they want their kids to remain Christian. In short they can't protect their kids from everything so prepare them for anything. Also give them a little bit more freedom at a time so by the time they hit 18 they know how to say no for themselves instead of having only been told no instead of learning self control and self confidence.
Btw he is plain wrong about women being barred from working. Women in the Bible did work. Jesus was revolutionary about how he treated women. At that time women were not seen as NEARLY equal to men, but Jesus treated them with dignity. Also the Christian faith and (especially debated) ideas was never supposed to be forced on someone. Jesus never attacked anyone or forced anyone to listen to him or to do as he said. Some people forget that.

@@wursteh5728 I never said it didn't, but the Bible also talks about good stewardship and in the case of global warming, overpopulation drives up climate change and causes more carbon to be released into the atmosphere either through maintaining those lives or through the number of people breathing out carbon dioxide or releasing carbon in death. This would present a moral dilemma in which the greater good must be achieved, and I would think that being able to be fruitful and multiply would not be something possible if the human race became extinct from global warming. Also saying be fruitful and multiply doesn't necessarily mean have 11 children, there should be some level of responsibility as to the number of children you have. I am very well aware of these passages in the Bible but I do also have the knowledge of many passages in the Bible which could just as easily mean that a Christian who follows certain rules no matter what is not being a good Christian under certain circumstances, which in this case is what he would be, a bad Christian, and I wanted to point out that it can be interpreted this way since this pastor seems to think he is an exemplary Christian, when in reality he is taking the Bible at face value and not using any critical thinking skills, sort of like how he thinks stopping the women in his family from working is Christian, when I am certain that there are also examples in the Bible of businesswomen (Lydia in Acts comes to mind) which if he had noticed means that women weren't actually prevented from working in even the Bible and he probably took one passage out of context at face value and it resulted in a terrible ideology. It would also mean he is not being a good Christian since he'd be acting like a Pharisee and not applying the most important rule Christians have which is to love one another, since, again if he used his critical thinking skills, he would realise that a lot of the times context is needed in order for something to be a loving action as opposed to something which could be harmful. And since the New Testament holds more weight for Christians, Jesus' most important commandment would therefore hold the most weight in making moral decisions therefore meaning he is a hypocrite to call himself a Christian.
