    The channel is you, not the bikes, batteries and other baubles, they're the props to to you and the stories. It's how you purvey your stories that keeps me here. I mean crikey, I couldn't stand those electric scooters, yet I watched and thoroughly enjoyed your vid on project scoot. I get them now and 'may' even admit to liking and wanting one (damit, lol) and all down to how you 'rolled' (pun intended 😁)with the story. Do what you love and share what you love about it. It's funny, I subscribed to your channel before I was interested in bikes because I was really into EVs; then decided I wanted to learn to ride bikes (eventually electric ones); then crashed twice whilst learning, and that really put me in a funk. I decided to restore and convert an old farm quad bike to electric which ended up being a sanity-saving lockdown project, a huge learning journey, and now a really useful tool I use around our property. I was so excited about your Energicar project because of this! One day I'd love to do the same with a small light car.

    This is one of those channels that I don't expect constant uploads, but it's a treat whenever a new video drops as they're all top notch. It'd be neat if there were more modification stuff that you could do to the energica for content, but it's not like you can go get a new exhaust for it. I have seen videos of people basically jail breaking their tesla plaids to get a higher speed limit and open up more options in the program, but I'm sure that Energica wouldn't be too happy if you did that to their bike. If you could ever find a way to make it so that the speedo isn't always 10% over the real speed, making it show the actual speed of the bike, would be super handy though. For the mean time, I look forward to the Beat build as it's still making something awesome with Energica parts. Keep up the great work and I'll keep watching :)

The car is coming along and I'm way behind on videos haha, so expect lots of those soon. There IS a way to correct the speedo and even give our bikes more power... I have a very similar story. I bought a Zero FX a little over a year ago. Absolutely fell in love with it. I know you know what im talking about when I say I loved my bike. I now have very mixed feelings about it. It spent almost a quarter of a year in the shop. I have been a motorcyle rider without a bike... I went through withdrawals, anger, depression and now acceptance. I could have bought 2x gas bikes for what I paid for my zero. I have serious questions about their reliability and longevity. Any time there is a problem with the bike, (every other month) I take it to the dealership. They dont look at it for 3-4 days, then they attempt (often unsuccessfully) to diagnose the problem. They email Zero for advice on fixing the problem. Then they figure out the problem and order replacement parts. The parts take 1-2 weeks to arrive. They take 1 whole day just to be recieved. Then 3-4 more days to schedule the parts to be put on and repairs to be done. Then it takes a week or more for the actual work to be done. It is a miserable process. Nothing gets done in less than 1 month. It has currently been in the shop almost 2 months and no one has even told me whats wrong with it. You need at least 1 other motorcycle before you even consider purchasing a Zero. You need something to ride when its in the shop for excruciatingly long periods of time. I highly recommend getting a gas bike and that is from someone who loves electric motorcycles.

    • @NewZeroland

      Man I'm sad to hear this. That's a big reason why I never bought another Zero. Dealers are frustrated because Zero isn't helping them out. I fully agree with you on needing multiple bikes, but that can be fun too :D

    I always thought of your content as generally electric vehicle focused, but that bikes were just the more efficient EV for you. Of course, the pursuit of the "perfect" bike for you life was a chapter in that story, achieved by moving from the Zero to the Energica. The EnergiCar was on the way to being a new small four wheel EV that I'd imagine was fast, trackable, electric, but most importantly it's something you wanted to do and did so in your own entertaining way, so I was happy to continue watching that new chapter. It's unfortunate when little set backs like your license issue cause a kinda of cascade effect that takes the wind out of you sails a bit, I know I've had pursuits that kinda got pushed aside because of things that weren't under my power, but I try to keep doing the things I enjoy as much as possible for my own sake. You should do the same, and if you choose to share them with us I'm sure we'll be here when you're ready.

    Just chiming in to support some of the less common responses below; I started watching you for your South Island tour and have stayed since. Electric bikes are super interesting as a 'where will things go', but as someone still in the early days of licencing and LAMS bikes, electric bikes might as well be supercars - I'm here to see what you get up to & where I might also want to ride. Play the country music if that's what you're into at the moment :)

    • @NewZeroland
      @NewZeroland  10 месяцев назад

      Cheers man! Honestly LAMS approved stuff is pretty rad now. I'd get an R7 and just stick with that forever, but it depends what style of riding you like. Hopefully the used electric market grows in NZ the way it did in the US and we can have more affordable options. You're right that they're still like supercars, but very limited compared to petrol bikes. Maybe that'll change soon. I hope it does! Thanks for watching and happy riding :D

Gas bikes on the track and Electric when you are touring or commuting. Your passion is electric so I guess feed it the best you can. Interesting to see what you have been dealing with. Road trip videos with your Energica would be interesting, maybe sort of like Bjørn Nyland's early Model S videos. It would be cool to show the places you charge and visit. Maybe the New Zealand tourist board would sponsor you! 😀
    Another idea would be to go to drag strips and race your Energica, if they have them in NZ. With bracket racing electrics are less likely to be banned, since quicker bikes will lose if they break out of their bracket time.
    Whatever you end up doing, I still will enjoy how you present your videos.

    To be honest, I didn't follow your channel for the EV-Bikes. I am into right to repair and found your videos about the problems with zero. So yes, I came here for the electric bike content, but these where just the thing you talked about. I enjoyed your storytelling and your honest review of them. That's the reason, why I stayed around. So make content, as you like it. Maybe even about the trackdays - it sounds great to hear some insights into "why is a gasbike cheaper/better to run on a track?", "why do many tracks bann evs?", "whats the first thing you had to unlearn riding a smaller gasbike on track?". I think there is great content in it and from my perspective, we are all just bikers. I would not trade my oldtimer or my twostroke for an EV, but would I like to own one in addition? Yeah maybe.

    Going fast is fun, but it's not the only thing you can do on a bike. New Zealand is beautiful and electric bikes are cool. I own a Zero SR as well as a Triumph Street Triple R, so I appreciate both electric and gas. I love them both and I've learned to respect the power, but even mellow or somewhat spirited cruises through beautiful places can be great without trying to set new speed records. Just enjoy your bikes and the great places you have to ride. For electric bikes, range and charging are actually probably more important than performance, so you can provide a lot of value by discussing how that evolves.

    Sam and Jenn, from our end, it looks like you have a good thing going. It seems you think so too. Maybe you fell off the horse, but you can get back on. Figure out what you love about doing these videos and find a way to keep doing it. Do you need to make more money with the videos to pay for repairs to expensive bikes? Let's spread the word and get you some followers. Do you need more startup electric motorcycle companies to send you demo units? We can help. Do you want to spend more time doing trips with Jenn? Take it on the road, to other countries? Maybe the track isn't feasible. How about off road on adventure e-motos? I'm enjoying the e-conversion of the beat too. Suggest you create the change together with any budding 4 wheel track EVs. I drive a Tesla Model 3 in Oz and it is considerable effort to trail blaze the acceptance of EVs at tracks but someone has to do it. You can YT the journey. Happy to help with learnings in Oz if you decide to try.

      If you mean making friends with electric car people at tracks, I have a few of them and they're also angry about the track ban. It's not just electric motorcycles. We'll try and fight it though!

    Hot Rod the Beat. You are not beholden to anyone here, and you don't owe us anything. You owe yourself experiences that make you happy, drive you forward, and meet your goals. But I'm saying, hot rodding is where it's at. If you choose to apply your skills to telling that story, you will be inspiring others to be creative, learn, and do - freely. Sam, each video is like a postcard received - how cool.

    I will join the chorus asking you to keep up the good work. And Jen, too! Perhaps you answered this below, but I could not find it: why would the track ban electric motorcycles?!

      Thanks! I'll do a follow up video to talk about this in more depth, but it comes down to battery fire safety and how unprepared NZ is to handle it.

    I'm kinda in the same spot. I haven't uploaded a video in over a year and one of many reasons why is I don't feel like I have anything important or new to say. I stopped doing my monthly solar updates because they weren't getting many views and it started to get too repetitive. I've had our 2013 Prius for 8 years, our 2013 Volt for 7 years and my 2018 Zero SR for 5 years now which is crazy but I don't really have anything exciting or new to say about these vehicles. Thought about doing a Doug DeMuro style review of our Prius like I did on my Volt but just never got around to it. My kids have also kept me busy/stressed but they are only a small part of the reasons I stopped making videos.
    Some Model 3 videos might be cool but that's been done to death on RUclips so I can understand not wanting to do that.
    Overall, I'd say life happens and if you just kind of run out of things to say on a topic, then that's fine. Interests change. You'll find new ones to talk about.

      Dude!! Glad to hear from ya. It has been way too long, and I totally understand. Life changes and so do our interests / hobbies. You're right that there isn't much to say anymore. I feel like electric motorcycles were still new and different when we got into them, and now everybody and their grandmas have them. This isn't the end of my channel.. not by a long shot.. but I'm not sure how much more electric motorcycle content I'll make unless something exciting happens.

    Things have slowed for me too. Since getting my CE-04, there's nothing of note to report. The bike just works, no drama. And Japan (where I live) is still way behind on EVs so there's nothing new to report either. No new Japanese made EVs here.

    It's your channel. No question people come here for your electric stuff, but personally I'm here for you and Jen, and both your insights. It doesn't matter what you guys do, I'm tuning in regardless. My channel was more vlogs and video games. But these days it's mainly motorcycles 😅. You make great content, people will follow no matter what. Much Love from this side of the planet ❤

    I enjoy the touring and you commentary and interactions with silent Jen. The future is electric. The track guy may feel threatened by electrics capabilities but will eventually come around. Keep on being you, your audience appreciates it. Thanks for the information and entertainment.

    Great videos bro, I totally the love the North NZ trip you guys have done and only found your channel after looking for video info on the Energica Eva Ribelle. I live in Far North Queensland and have some high mountain twisties and it was good to see your range test to Martinborough, definitely gives people a real world idea on how it will go for them. If anything keep showing the bike and help change people perspective on electric vehicles, you definitely inspire people to change bro (i like the car vid too).
    Just wondering how tall are you and how much do you weigh? Asking as the closest dealer to me is like 2000+ kms away so would have to fly down to sit on one.

      Thanks man! I'll keep making videos for sure. Actually I'm riding 600+km tomorrow so I'll definitely shoot a video about that. I'm 187cm (6'2) and weigh 75kg. I really like the Ribelle but the Ego also fit really well. They're big bikes, and still pretty heavy, but insanely fun.

    Do whatever you feel at each moment, dont worry about it.
    It's your channel, just show us what you do. You said that now you are less "the electric man" and more "a gas bike track man", for me its ok if it makes you happy.
    Just share with us what makes you happy, no matter if its electric or not.
    Thanks.

    HI Sam. As you know you were a large part of why I purchased my 2017 Zero DSR with Charge Tank. However, after experiencing the realities of Level 2 charging here in the SF Bay Area, I was discouraged. I waited for the DSR/X and Energica Experia, but when they were released, neither of them had the features I wanted. So I purchased a 2022 Ducati Multistrada V4S Sport. It was the same price as the bikes above but has many more features I use and appreciate. I unsubscribed from all EV channels because right now they no longer interest me. You and Jenn do as people and I hope you find things to create for whatever you choose to display.

    I think, we all can absolutely follow your arguments about the track and these inner conflicts. Sure, you cannot get the same feeling on the public road and you‘re not able to go up to your potential, passion, limits and capabilities there - sure, it‘s the public zone .. A big bummer that e-ban! Maybe you can fight against that? What‘s the reason behind? After you‘ve won this fight, you may get a cheaper electric bike only for the track. Hey, we followers will find a way together, that you’re happy again.

    • @NewZeroland
      @NewZeroland  10 месяцев назад

      Cheers! We'll try and fight, because this affects all EVs. The car people will be pissed. The ban is for a minimum of 18 months while they sort out new safety regulations for potential battery fires. It just sucks that we have to wait that long.
