I made some pretty horrendous purchases in my youth. Clothing and cars being the things I regret the most. What about you guys?
I bought Windows Vista as soon as it got out.
What is the brand of your maroon shirt? It's a good fit. Thank you.
I went for MBA
@@anardes 🤣 This is a good one. Being an early adopter has a high price
A new smartphone when mine was completely good.
I get buyer's remorse from even spending $5 on snacks 😔
As one gets older, you begin realizing buying the cheapest item is the shortest path to needing to replace an item. The marketplace is very creative at getting consumers to replace perfectly usable items or buy cheap (quality) items by putting 'sale' in the advert.
My buying strategy is a variation of yours. When I want to replace an item:
1) I review the new item I want that suits my needs (irrespective of cost)
2) Review the sales history of the brand and wait until it goes on a legitimate sale
3) I will hold the item throughout its useful life (never trade up when a new version is released)
I donate things that I replace so someone can use or barter it as they see fit. Keeping it encourages clutter or worse hoarding.
Question: What's the Vancouver connection (print on the wall)?
My buyers remorse is when I see the same stuff at discounted price later on lol
Bought a pair of shoes in March this year 1 week before the lockdown here. I ended up not wearing it until now. Only if I “quarantined” my desire to buy for at least 2 weeks and foresee the lockdown, I would not feel this buyer’s remorse. 😅
The quality of your content is so good I never noticed that you were out of focus😅
Holy shit I need those pans with removable handles!
Nobody:
Daniel: L E A F B L O W E R
Cordless!!
I have a cordless one and it brings happiness and meaning to my life :)
I have viewer's remorse if I don't watch a Daniel Titchener video till the end!
I Thought It Was Only Me Having That Problem For A While Now.
Blame that soothing voice :P :D
Haha! Came back to the video for this very reason.
I've been feeling the FOMO when I've seen my coworkers all upgrade to the new iPhone 12 Pro or Pro Max from their previous models. Although it initially made me feel like I needed to upgrade, I realized that my X is fine despite it mysteriously restarting here and there (which can get really annoying if I happen to need it in a pinch) but all-in-all it's not horrible and is still very much usable. Despite getting a raise, this was a huge boost to my sentiments of not feeling the need to upgrade-thank you, Daniel!! 💛
First video that I watched from you. Really informative, I enjoyed the whole video.
To share my experience, when I was younger I would impulse buy things more, hence buyers remorse was a common thing. It can be new clothes, new shoes or whatever really.
However I have noticed that as I got older, buyers remorse is less common for me. I have a habit of 'delaying my purchase' where if I really want something new, I would write it down on the list first and wait. Chances are that in a few months, I would remove some of the things from the list after realizing that some of them wouldn't be very useful. If the product stays on the list after several months, chances are the product is something that would add value to my life. My friends look at me like I am the weird one though. They always wondered why I would always hold off on purchases for so long before finally buying it.
Glad you enjoyed it! It sounds like you were smarter than I was 😊
I saved myself from the black Friday this year. Browsed and browsed but saw nothing I needed or really wanted. Came out feeling happier. I feel the need for a treat purchase now and then, but I'd rather they be few but more substantial. Quality over quantity as they say.
Great videos mate, keep up the good work.
Really good points. I always consider the "commitment cost" of an item: How and where I will store it, how much maintenance ir cleaning it will require, how upset I would be if the item broke or otherwise became unusable shortly after purchase (accidents happen). Usually, I get exhausted at the thought of these and don't buy it.
Daniel really inspired me to live within my means. And so far i'm feeling so much better!
I appreciate you highlighting the difference between fulfillment and being happy about getting something. I can actually look at some things in my life that actually and truly give me fulfillment and I’m glad to be able to separate that from things i just enjoy.
You’re a great communicator, Daniel. You get your point across so clearly and keep your audience’s interest throughout. Your videos are produced to a high standard. They somehow feel calming as well as informative. Subject matter is also spot on. We can all do with reducing our thoughtless consumption. Keep up the good work.
You always drop the right video when I need it the most. Thanks!!!
I always try to look deeply at why I'm actually going to buy a certain item, and that makes me rethink if I actually need it. Saved me a lot of buys ;)
I began watching you only recently but have found tremendous value in your philosophy. My husband kept talking of minimalist ideas and then would order up 10 kilts on Amazon. We don’t live in the British isles nor are we Irish, Scottish, British or Welsh. Now I have that many more things to sell off due to his passing last week
Great video and great message Daniel!!!... I'm glad I found your channel!!... Thanks man
I completely agree!
That's the reason why I buy good second-hand gadgets etc because they are cheaper and good enough for me.
Black Friday ... a day to buy more stuff we don't need, after a day of giving thanks for what we already have. Agree gratitude is key. I also agree with fulfillment, when I think of things that i purchased that i don't regret, they continue to provide fulfillment and provide same value on day 500 as they did on day 1. As always, great video and topic.
Wonderful! Thank you for the consistently great videos
Thank You. Daniel. Excellent content and advice. Buying " stuff" does not make one happy or contented. Less is definitely " more". As my mother would say " health before wealth".
I bought a camera to start my channel, along with gear and I have buyer's remorse every time it overheats and shuts off on me. 😫 Now your new Sony is looking really attractive to help solve that problem.
always great content. thanks for sharing your thoughts. i suffered from purchasing sneakers and online sales recently. awesome new camera btw.
Such a great video!! I love all the thought and research that goes into your videos!
Once you buy something its best to stop looking for options ☺️ Because there is always a new better version next week. Evaluate your new gadget from your original needs, not in comparison with everything else ☺️
I’ve done it both ways. I bought a Fuji camera I spent ages researching about, thinking I would get into photography and never did. That was a waste of over £200.
On the other hand I walked into a shop to buy a Bluetooth speaker, had 10 minutes before the shop shut. Listened to each one for like 20 seconds and just bought the one that was loud and clear. It was £150 and is one of my favourite possessions, I use it almost every day and take it camping and to festivals.
My buyer remorse is when I bought something far away and when I get home it doesn’t work and have to take it back!
It frustrates me so much!
I must look for the receipt and go all the way back to the store I bought it from
I will definitely be making a few returns before the end of the year 😅
Hey, thanks man! I really needed this
This!!!!!! Your channel is a beathe of fresh air. Quality content 👌🏾
I don't know how you don't have a million subs, every video is so well done! I'll be there when you hit 10 mil ;)
This!!!!!! Your channel is a beathe of fresh air.
Excellent
Great video. I have remorse over clothes even though I have a capsule wardrobe, oh and buying a car new and losing 13k when I sold it 3 years later.
I got rid of buyers remorse by giving myself a budget, and 99% of the time, I'm very happy and enjoying my purchases, because I need to think what I really need and want.
Thanks for the video!
Despite, I haven't lost any money on last Black Friday (no purchases on Black Friday -- no money lost heh), I recently started asking my self "Do I really needed this thing?" About, probably, every purchase I made recently or planning to make in the near future.
It's perfect time to hear someone else opinion on this topic. Think you video may help me ask myself proper questions and resolve my struggle.
This!!!!!! Your channel is a beathe of fresh air. Quality content.
Brilliant.
2:40 "But did I need them? Probably not." → Daniel referring to brands that he has recommended on his channel.
Love the candor on this one. Truly, there are exceptional products that if you have to buy one in your life, you should get, but not at the expense of having a perfectly good one that you're still using (especially when you don't have the money to spring up for it).
I am often trapped in the quandary of saving up for a really good piece of tech or *anything* really, and also considering that "eh, I just need one I can use *right now*" I find though that I often end up having buyer's remorse when I'm choosing to do the latter (especially if I don't know if I can responsibly dispose of it once I do get the product I was saving for) BUT often the most sensible thing to do is to just go for what you need *now* and then reevaluate down the line. As you've said, it's about fulfillment, it's about getting to do more with what you have, and it's about cultivating what fills you with happiness and keeps you fulfilled. 🙌
Never been this early. I am really bad at this. lots of the time we don't really need whatever we are buying. the rush is from the process of finding the "best", "cheapest" etc, the idea of endless choices and finding the one, and that sense of accomplishment when you think you did. Reality is most of the time is by the time you get them in your hands the excitement already becomes mild if not gone at all. The benefits are mostly imaginary, and that's where buyers remorse come in.
PS, Love your videos!
Great content. Thanks
I wanted to buy an ipad off carousell recently, then my colleague and i discussed the reasons why i really need an ipad.
We came to the conclusion that it will probably become a ‘white elephant’ after that euphoria of using it for awhile. I don’t use it for work and i most certainly will use my phone instead of an ipad to take photos/selfies/wefies.
So i decided to use that money i was going to use on the ipad for drinks and building my friendship with my colleague. So grateful we had that conversation.
I really wanted to upgrade my camera, but on a second I don't even use my camera that much.
I literally bought a camera couple of months ago but with the pandemic I never had a chance to ever go out and take pics and post them to my Instagram especially with working at retail every weekday. I always have that thought of why put all my hard earned money in a separate camera when I have my phone with me at all times...
I think it would be a good idea to learn how to properly use the camera you got first. You will be surprised at the quality of photos you can get when you learn how to use it properly. I've had my camera for over 6 years now. And I recently took a photography class that taught me how to properly use it, and holy crap I didn't realize this camera was capable of those kinds of photos. Also after taking the class, I learned how to take more professional photos on my phone as well. Did you know you can shot in RAW on most smartphones? I didn't and it makes a world of a difference.
Thank you for the POV ! I always wander why I experienced buyers remorse after digging long time to select the proper item I was looking for and still don’t feel fulfilled.
When you want to soak in every word of a video and kinda want to burn it into your brain - than it was a video made by Mr. Titchener! Awesome - Since I subscribed to your channel I am always bringing your advises into my purchasing decisions and it saved me from remorse (sometimes) :)
I'm finding joy in simply spending money on essentials thesedays, ie food and bills.
Great video.
I didn’t get tempted by any products during Black Friday or Cyber Monday. I feel very happy that I didn’t buy anything for anything’s sake.
Detachable Handles are genius!!!!!!
I think there needs to be a balance between 'impulse buying' and 'good enough'. The balance is probably 'letting it brew' so good insights Daniel but I think you can expand on these concepts as a process. Step one: do your research and decide on the item you want/need. Step two: decide where to purchase from (I would say don't over think and stress over getting a deal but maybe consider other factors. I for example try to buy local and sustainably sourced.) Step three: If you can, LET IT BREW (this should be on a tshirt btw). I've started doing this without even realising it and I think it's a great suggestion. I think it would help people to pull away from purchasing for the sake of getting that dopamine hit.
Why is it so satisfying watching people make coffee on youtube?! :D great video btw
Not gonna lie: I felt buyer's remorse when I purchased my 2020 MacBook Pro in October only to find out there is an M1 MBP. But my intel mac is good enough for me. 🎄✨
I've been thinking about pans with detachable handles for months now! I may have let that decision over-brew 😅
Man, I love your videos so much, that I don't even skip the advertisement.
Daniel very nice video, thanks to you
Great video as usual!
I like to consider sales as fortunate circumstances, after leaving my wishlist bookmarked for sometime, and when I’m actually convinced to buy, the sale is a sprinkle on top.
Also going to a brick and mortar to buy something may help since the extra effort to actually go there may deter us from actually getting it.
I bought the Tefal pans 5 years ago. I’m now looking to replace them as the non stick coating scraped off. Hoping caring for and buying cast iron will last a lifetime instead.
Great video.
Good video mate!
A list of regretful purchases: Microsoft surface rt; the keyboard for it that stopped working within a week, but never returned because I was being dumb, taking on more uni courses than I can handle and dropping them too late, uni insurance and not realizing I can opt out, mystery bags from ardene, random nick nacks from the dollar store, clay supplies... we all make mistakes, but at least there's a lesson to learn from for doing so. :'D
pls someone add some dressing to that kale
Great vid as usual man
By the way, you are set for years with that Sony a7siii. You nailed it!
That was sweet!
Request for behind the scenes video
How when how long
Awesomeness
Now I'm actually do need this WD hard drive
Before I make any major purchase I ask myself "would I be willing to buy shares of stock in the company that makes this thing?" If the answer is "yes" then I buy as many shares of stock in the company for the same price of the product. The week after, I buy the product itself.
Example: two weeks ago I purchase 10 shares of stock in Sony. Last week, I bought a Sony a6400 camera.
Anyone who buys anything during Black Friday or Cyber Monday is a sucker. There are hundreds of memes about the fake deals, markups, etc. Like you said, and like I've been saying for 40+ years, you aren't saving money on a "sale" if you're buying something you didn't need in the first place.
Upgrade the things you need, the things you use often, and the things that will improve your quality of life. If you walk everyday, buy the best pair of running shoes you can afford that work for you. Buy good pillows and a mattress. If you waste a ton of toilet paper, buy a bidet attachment. If sitting and working is hurting your back, knees, etc. get more exercise in and buy the best office chair you can afford. And so on and so forth.
What you end up regretting the most are the purchases that have no impactful, long-term value to your existence--like that leather jacket you mentioned. (I also thought leather jackets would last forever, so I bought one when I was a 23-year-old, 190lb runner. Now I'm a 245lb powerlifter. Guess what happened to that "forever" jacket?)
Same goes with mostly disposable items like wristwatches, accessories, electronics--which are designed with 'planned obsolescence', and so forth.
Even "investing in yourself" is a waste of money for a lot of people. People in my friend circle have subscribed to Skillshare, purchased Audible books, etc. only to stop using them after a few weeks or months. They're fleeting hopes of self improvement.
Focus on what matters. Don't buy dumb shit.
I'm waiting for your new video every week. Finally 😄
The like to dislike ratio tells how good this man is with his content
Fulfillment is important, most important
Got an Xbox Series S a month ago.
It’s amazing upgrade from my old 7 year console.
Got it for an amazing price.
I’m loving it.
It’s everything I ever wanted.
Why do I still have buyers remorse…
Well your face in focus this time. I can tell the viewers’ experience has been improved by your camera purchase!
I bought a 65 in 4k tv and as soon as i hung it on the wall i had bad buyers remorse, it took my wife several days to convince me not to return it! We already had a nice 4k it was just smaller.
The irony is that i will order The coffetable in his bio link haha
@daniel where do u get ur T-shirts from
My buyers remorse must be extreme.. I think about buying something for 6 months, will still want it, buy it, then feel bad and be like, did I reallllyyyyy need that?
(When I reflect though: need? no, add value? yes)
Understanding the DIFFERENCE between NEED and WANT will give you the ultimate FREEDOM.
Crap, now I want a Hugo boss jacket.
You bought the best camera no worries ;)
Well while watching this my coconut oil fell down on my sink and broke..
"The best tech is not what you have, it is what you master"
Bad or good purchases, as long as it's expensive, I always feel some form of buyer's remorse. It takes me a while to get over the idea that I spent a huge amount of money.
Pillows are a luxury
pretty pleased with my glasses
Where are your T-shirts from?
I find that if I buy the cheaper low quality option for 1/4 of the price and using it for a 6 months to a year helps me work out if I need the more expensive option
Absolutely everyone should see this video before shopping on any kind of sale.
The only thing I bought recently was a 30$ cpu cooler because the current one is absolutely loud.
People that buy a new iPhone every year just because it's "new" should take a hard look at this video.
I would love to see you reviewing a phone or maybe a laptop 👍🏻
(Probably in an amateur way 😂)
Watching Suits These days 😁
You know how good he is when there are 3K views and 0 dislikes
I gotta ask....If you're in all the way in the UK, why do you have a Vancouver map on your wall?
Suits ! 💯🔥
Great topic. Especially with all the people who are crying about not have waited to buy the new MacBook M1. These brands are mastered the art of buying what we don't need.
I spent 7 bucks on a shirt that says "Navy Mom" because I thought it was funny for like a day, thats the lowest amount I've ever had buyers remorse over but its strong
Or sometimes, it's less of a whim and an honest mistake.
I regret buying name brand vitamin pills (I'm vitamin deficient), when they won't work on me after all because of my gut problem, and might have to take injections instead.
Then I saw some really cool books I really wanted to buy online. Being unable to buy them because I spent wrong before feels like physical pain.
I love your videos
0:19 It be like that
