I’m glad someone pointed out habits right now during quarantine. I read “Atomic Habits” by James Clear recently. It’s the same material as as this habit book. I just like it a bit more because he says to make a new habit easy and more inciting. So when you want to get up earlier and you can’t you immediately reward yourself when you do because then you’re looking forward to something. It becomes a cue. I started working out after I take my dog outside and I reward myself with a good breakfast. It’s better digestion for me and it satisfies my hunger. I can’t eat until I do my workout and it’s cued after I take my dog outside. It has helped me immensely psychologically and emotionally when I have to spend weeks inside a small space. It gives me a sense of security and control.

I make my bed everyday. That gets me in a mood of thinking I am about to go somewhere. Then I make breakfast, and so on. I’ve set 4 alarms in my phone: (1) protein shake (2) stretch (3) workout (4) protein shake. Hearing the alarms triggers my mind to think I HAVE to do these things. Keeps me motivated and busy since, unfortunately, this time has caused me to lose my job.

Loved the video. I agree that routines are very important. After retiring, I had no routines and had to invent a whole new series of them. Now, with lockdown those are all out of the window but the two things that are part of my new new routine are getting out of bed, dressed, etc by 8:30 and out for my daily walk. It really does set me up for the day.

Usually 3 changes a day. After a day of lounging in comfy clothes, getting dressed (up) again is a motivator. Never realized this until you adressed it.
